Delta Commissioner urges President Tinubu to revamp more ports to boost bation’s blue economy

Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, has urged the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to revamp and expand more ports across Nigeria in order to unlock the full potential of the country’s blue economy.

Speaking during an interview on ADBN Television on Friday, Aniagwu noted that strategic investments in port infrastructure would significantly enhance national development, create jobs, and strengthen the country’s maritime logistics framework.

He explained that the South-South region is the natural hub of Nigeria’s blue economy, as all states in the region are bordered by the Atlantic Ocean.

According to him, over-reliance on the Apapa Port in Lagos has hindered the growth of Nigeria’s maritime potential, and he called for the decentralization of port services to stimulate broader economic development.

Aniagwu urged the Federal Government to harness the vast economic potential of the nation’s aquatic resources, particularly in the Niger Delta region, to drive national growth.

He noted that the Delta State Government, under the leadership of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, is already creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive, especially in sectors tied to the blue economy.

He highlighted the state’s ongoing infrastructure efforts, including improved road connectivity between urban and rural areas.

“The Oborevwori administration is constructing a new road in Asaba that leads to the River Niger, opening up opportunities and laying the foundation for a new city, the Asaba Waterfront City,” he said.

He further stated that residents can now travel from Asaba to Warri in just one hour and fifty minutes, thanks to the completion of a smooth dual carriageway that is free of potholes, greatly enhancing travel efficiency and regional connectivity.

“Improved infrastructure like the Asaba-Ughelli dual carriage is not just about ease of movement. It is also about enabling trade, attracting investment, and fostering sustainable development. This kind of development creates a ripple effect across multiple sectors.”

He emphasized the need to fully develop and maximize the existing ports in the Niger Delta including Warri, Koko, Sapele, and Burutu in Delta State, the Ibom Deep Seaport in Ibeno, Akwa Ibom. State, Onne Port in Rivers and the Calabar Port in Cross River, as viable alternatives to Lagos ports.

Aniagwu also advocated for the establishment of a functional port in Lokoja and the dredging of the River Niger to allow larger vessels to berth there.

This, he said, would ease cargo movement to the Middle Belt and other parts of Northern Nigeria, reducing dependence on the congested Apapa Port.

“Reviving and expanding these ports will allow Nigeria to participate more competitively in the global maritime economy,” he stated. “It will also diversify our national revenue streams and reduce our over-reliance on oil.”

He recalled that experts have long advocated for investment in modern port infrastructure. A well-equipped port system, he said, is crucial for efficient import and export activities.

Aniagwu stressed the importance of upgrading port facilities to accommodate large vessels and heavy-duty cargo, positioning Nigeria as a maritime trade hub in West Africa.

“Imagine the economic transformation if ports in underutilized locations were developed and operated at full capacity,” he said. “This would enable the establishment of free trade zones and supporting infrastructure across various regions of the country.”

Aniagwu called on relevant authorities, port managers, and stakeholders in the maritime sector to pursue bold reforms and increased investments in port development.

He further stressed that improved port infrastructure would also extend the lifespan of Nigeria’s road network, as fewer high-tonnage trucks would be needed to transport goods over long distances, thereby reducing road wear and tear.

“By addressing these long-standing challenges and embracing high-speed connectivity and modern logistics, we can overcome the limitations that have hindered our progress for too long,” Aniagwu affirmed.

  • Oborevwori showing workings in all sectors of Delta- Aniagwu

Oborevwori showing workings in all sectors of Delta- Aniagwu

Delta State Government, Monday, said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was showing workings in all sectors of the state’s development trajectory and would not be distracted by naysayers.

The State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu disclosed this at news conference in Asaba.

Aniagwu who was flanked by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, said just as he had long stated that Governor Oborevwori would not reply critics except with projects, the governor yet again demonstrated that last week when he led top government officials on inspection of projects across the three senatorial districts.

According to him, “when we got to Warri last week in the course of our projects inspection, our people in Warri were magnanimous in giving us what will become our global response to anybody who decides to paint pictures that are at variance with reality.

“In their words, ‘Governor Sheriff Oborevwori dey show workings, nor be chor chor chor’. Meaning it is not a question of carry talk.

“We thought it was just a question of us telling you that we will respond with projects but they have been able to prove that indeed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is showing workings and not a question of carry talk.

“In continuation of projects inspection in line with our value for money, Governor Oborevwori led us to a number of projects in the three senatorial districts.

“We started with the twin Ubu bridges along the Ughelli-Asaba Expressway and many were quite stunned that the bridge has been completed and we have been able to shorten travel time between our commercial city, Warri and our capital city, Asaba.

“Besides shortening the travel time, this effort of Governor Oborevwori has been able to promote smooth motoring along that corridor.

“We proceeded to the Isoko Ring Road where the Governor is determined to fastrack the completion of the project, but needed to be sure of where are with a view to knowing how to proceed with the project.

“We have examined it and the needful is being done by the Ministry of Works, Highways and Urban Roads.”

Aniagwu said on getting to the Southern Delta University, Ozoro they were suprised to see that the College of Health Sciences was almost completed, adding that “the full block has been completed and additional block is being built to complement the medical building”.

Governor Oborevwori commended the Vice-Chancellor and his management team for attracting other projects into the institution.

At the Orerokpe campus, he said a number of projects have been completed, assuring that the campus would be ready for students in September, 2025.

At Omadino Technical College in Warri South, Governor Oborevwori said the school would be ready for students in September and assured that his administration would continue to deploy education as a tool to fight insecurity, believing largely that if education was provided for the youths they would not have the time to navigate towards crime and criminality.

We also inspected Hospital Road in Warri South with accompanying drains where Governor Oborevwori made very profound promises to provide CT-SCANS at the Central Hospital, Warri, Asaba Specialist Hospital and the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara.

“We also visited the storm water drainage around the Warri Township Stadium, the three flyovers. The work is progressing speedily, the construction giants, Julius Berger is keeping to schedule and Governor Oborevwori is paying accordingly.

“On the third day we headed to Orere bridge where he urged the contractor to fastrack the completion of the project. We proceeded to the 47km Ohoror-Bomadi Road where we are intervening in 30km of that stretch.

“We also inspected the Edo Road and others in Ughelli and we could see that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori ‘dey show workings nor be chor chor chor’.”

He said at the weekend Governor Oborevwori was able to broker peace between Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh communities which had been at logger heads over land dispute.

He said both communities accepted the terms of settlement and promised to continue living in peace, adding that the state government had earlier approved the construction of Aladja/Ogbe-Ijoh Road.

Aniagwu also took a swipe on the opposition for impersonating some ethnic nationalities in their faceless and directionless criticisms of the Oborevwori administration.

“In the midst of all these, Governor Oborevwori will not be distracted and we will not confuse politics for governance, assuring that more projects would be approved in the next EXCO meeting.”

He said Governor Oborevwori had directed that “Any contractor that has so many jobs and is not able to fastrack the jobs in their hands with quality should forget about getting a new job.”

  • Oborevwori committed to functional, quality education in Delta – Aniagwu

Oborevwori committed to functional, quality education in Delta – Aniagwu

Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, has reaffirmed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s dedication to providing functional and high-quality education across the state.

Aniagwu who emphasized the importance of equipping students with the skills and knowledge needed for a competitive future, disclosed this on a national television programme monitored in Asaba, the state capital at the weekend.

The Commissioner who was reacting to questions regarding the challenges of proceeding with construction on the abandoned Sapele Polytechnic at Deghele-Iriabome communities, Elume District in Sapele LGA, assured of Governor Oborevwori’s continued investment in the education sector.

According to him, there is the need to understand the issue of functionality, education is not like opening a biscuit shop were everybody can come and buy biscuits.

“There is a reason for establishing institutions and i told you that we needed to look at the issues of quality and functionality as part of the aftermath of the 2016 education summit organized by the state government”.

“We had education summit in 2016 and we brought in professionals from across the country to assist us on a need assessment in the education sector and to make sure that our students do not remain in school more than necessary due to strikes”.

“The main goal of that summit was to ensure that our students get the kind of quality education that can position them to compete globally. Our education philosophy is to have accessible and functional institutions and not just to establish higher institutions that could make us to be seen to be politically correct”.

“Prior to the establishment of three new universities by the Ifeanyi Okowa led administration, we had three Polytechnics in Ogwashi-Uku, Ozoro and Otefe-Oghara. These polytechnics were established in the three Senatorial districts and that is in addition to three colleges of education in the three Senatorial districts.

“We had the main campus of the Delta State University in Central Senatorial District with other campuses in the South and the North”.

“So what we did as a government is to continue in the assessment of what we need, not to play politics. If you go and establish three polytechnics and you have 300 hundred students in one and possibly 500 lecturers and at the end of the day it becomes mushroom, how have you helped the state with that?

The Commissioner said the new universities were established based on a feasibility study which indicated the trend students were gravitating to.

“When we examined the trend we saw that many persons want to navigate towards University education and the University we had did not have enough carrying capacity.

“It was on the basis of that we established three additional universities with the Polytechnic at Ozoro converted to Delta State University of Science and Technology and later Southern Delta University, the campus at Asaba became Dennis Osadebay University and the College of Education at Agbor converted to University of Delta.

“In Nigeria today, no state can boost of the number of state owned higher institutions that we have to the extent that out of our ten federal constituencies, nine have higher institutions.

“In the last nine and half years, no higher institution in Delta has embarked on any strike. All the strikes you have seen across the federation our schools don’t join.

“They don’t join because we try to meet up with those demands to ensure functionality of our institutions. We don’t just say go and put a polytechnic or a university somewhere without having a feasibility study.

“It was a feasibility study that revealed university education had become much more attractive to our people and that was why we went that way.

“We have not jettisoned the establishment of more institutions but we needed to move steadily such that we do not bite more than we can chew per time.”

Speaking further, Aniagwu said a campus of the Southern Delta University was established at Orerokpe in the same federal constituency with Sapele and using facilities from the Technical College being constructed by the State Government.

“Governor Oborevwori has been running fast and steadily on the lane of functional and efficient education system that caters to the needs of the present and future”.

“As an administration, we do not have intention to abolish any institution so established but we will remain unwavering in our efforts at proceeding with educational needs assessment”

He said the Oborevwori administration would continue to promote the trajectory of quality and functional education for Deltans in line with the administration’s MORE Agenda.

Road project: Delta commissioner decries slow pace of work

Delta Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu has decried the slow pace of work by the contractor handling the Issele-Azagba/Otulu road project in Aniocha North Local Government Area.

The commissioner said this while inspecting the road project on Thursday.

Aniagwu said he was not impressed with the speed at which the contractor was executing the project, adding that he had made his observations clearly known to the contractor.

According to him, if the contractor wants to continue to work with the state government, he must first of all, bring that speed to bear.

Aniagwu said he had also pointed out a number of issues which the contractor needed to address to be able to meet up with the quality that the state government desired.

“I am not impressed with their speed and I made it very clear to the contractor that it is either he hastens his speed or we take certain other decisions that he may not be comfortable with.

“So, if he wants to continue to work with us, he must first of all, bring that speed to bear.

”I have also pointed out a number of issues which he needs to address to be able to meet up with the quality that we do desire,” he said.

At Idumu Etiti Street, Owerre Olubor, in Ika North East Local Government Area of the state, the Commissioner said he was very much impressed with the performance index of the contractor on that particular road project.

“I am very much impressed with the work the contractor did on that particular road. If you drive through that road, you will see that a whole lot of engineering effort was deployed in the construction of the road.

“There was only one small area that is heading into the catch pit which needed to be addressed.

”We have instructed that they need to ensure that the water flows freely into the catch pit so that it does not begin to cut back on the pathway and then possibly now cause some form of destruction on the deck of the drain.

”The contractor has also promised that they are going to address that issue,” he added.

Speaking on the Mission Road/Ogboi Street project in Akumazi, also, in Ika North East Local Government Area,  Aniagwu noted that the asphalt work on the road was very much okay.

“Before coming to this particular drain, this particular road, the asphalt work is very much okay. There are, however, some challenges with some of the drain heading towards the catch pit, which is off the main alignment of the road.

“And the contractor has also, promised to address some of those shortcomings, particularly to terminate the drain straight into the catch pit, because if you leave it hanging.

“There is a tendency with the momentum of the flood water, that it may cause some other devastating effects on property around that particular corridor.

“Bearing in mind that the people who have plots of land in that area are some peasant farmers who may not have the money to begin to take steps to prevent the effect of such a level of flood that may have to flow through the drains.

”So, the contractor has also promised to go back and address it. I have given him three weeks maximum to be able to deal with those issues and that we are coming back here to ensure that that has been done.

”Without those things being done, nobody is going to bring forward to me the certificates for him to be paid his money.

“And I know that he is interested in getting his money. If he must get his money, he must get the work done and done completely to our satisfaction,” Aniagwu stated.

Delta govt bans mixing of sand, cement on road surfaces

The Delta Government has banned the act of mixing sand or gravel or both with cement on road surfaces throughout the state.

Mr Charles Aniagwu, Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information said, in a statement, in Asaba on Friday that the act weakened such spots and caused them to be easily destroyed.

Aniagwu said the ban was with immediate effect.

Aniagwu said that the ban was occasioned by the fact that the worrisome acts by workmen were defacing and destroying the roads and pavements.

The commissioner said that the state government would not fold its arms and watch individuals destroy the roads and pavements already constructed.

Aniagwu warned that any person caught in the act would be appropriately sanctioned and the construction site sealed.

  • Oborevwori determined to develop all parts of Delta – Aniagwu

Oborevwori determined to develop all parts of Delta – Aniagwu

Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine Roads), Mr Charles Aniagwu, Thursday, said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was determined to develop all parts of the state in line with his administration’s M.O.R.E Agenda.

Aniagwu disclosed this at Issele-Azagba, Aniocha North Local Government Area of the state, during handover of the 2.7km Issele-Azagba-Otulu road to the contractor.

He said the Governor was desirous to connect every local government across the state with quality roads and urged the contractor to brace up with work and deliver on schedule.

“You will recall that few weeks ago Exco approved a number of roads across the three Senatorial districts. After the approval we proceeded to the process of awards and we got a number of contractors who bidded after the projects were advertised.

“This particular project which links Issele-Azagba-Otulu and to Ubulu-Okiti was among the projects that was approved in the course of that Exco.

“It’s been awarded and we are here to examine the level of mobilisation and to formally hand over these projects to the different contractors.

“This particular project is comprising 2.7km and over 3km side drain has been awarded to a contractor we considered capable and it will link up Aniocha North to Aniocha South in Delta North Senatorial District.

“The award of this project is a further demonstration of his meaningful development and opportunities for all planks in his MORE Agenda which is an indication that Governor Oborevwori is indeed a Governor for all Deltans.

“Once this road is completed, the people of Issele-Azagba may not go through the expressway again to get to their local government headquarters at Issele-Uku.

“I have extracted commitment from the contractor and from their work schedule, I am convinced that in no distant time this project would be delivered. I am happy with the speed with which they have mobilised.”

The Works Commissioner said the Oborevwori administration was mobilising contractors to ensure they work with the necessary speed to avoid price fluctuations in the economy.

He said the contractor was mobilised 30 percent of the contract sum, adding that they were expected to deliver the project within 12 months.

“I can assure you that the Governor’s desire in ensuring that our communities are developed is something he is taking very seriously and that is why he has approved mobilisation for a number of these contractors.

“We are doing this because we don’t want a situation were a job is given to anybody and he tells us that he has been very busy scouting for funds hence he has not been able to kick-start the process.

“Even though we know that a lot of the contractors have the resources to mobilise to site, we have to mobilise them so that we don’t move at their own pace because we want them to move at our own pace.

“What we desire first is quality job to be delivered, and secondly to meet up with the speed because we don’t want were a contractor takes a job and then he goes to the market to buy a mattress and begin to sleep on the project.

“We want them to be progressing steadily so that at the end of the day we don’t have to suffer on account of fluctuations in the economy.

“The Governor has directed that we must continue to provide quality supervision on these projects. There are a number of projects we have awarded running into several billions and I can assure you that in less than two weeks from now, a number of other projects would be awarded.

“Governor Oborevwori’s desire is to make sure that every local government whether they are in the North, Central or Southern Senatorial district is touched so that by the time we are coming back to our people in even before 2026-2027, the people themselves would appreciate what we have done.”

Aniagwu who was in company of the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon and Functioning Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Engr Solomon Aghagba also inspected the construction of Ichie James Obodoechi Avenue and Chikozie Okafor Road, in Asaba, Oshimili South Local Government Area.

He told the contractor to ensure that the drains on both side of the road were properly aligned to hit the discharge point, saying the project on completion will boost businesses on the corridor.

  • Inflation: Oborevwori, a prudent resource manager – Commissioner

Inflation: Oborevwori, a prudent resource manager – Commissioner

Delta Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine Roads), Mr Charles Aniagwu says Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori is a prudent  manager of state resources.

The commissioner stated this when the executives and members of the Asaba Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) visited him on Wednesday in Asaba.

He said that given the inflationary rate in the country, that the governor was careful with spending the state funds to ensure that  contractors and the people have full benefit from the available resources accruing to the state.

“Let me first appreciate you for the  support I received for the eight years that I worked with you under Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration both as Chief Press Secretary and Commissioner for Information.

“Many a time, I hear people say that I was successful in performing those two roles, but for me, I know that the larger part of the success came from the support I got from you, the journalists.

“I nerve had any cause to worry or begin to refute anything because you reported me correctly.

“Secondly, you never engage in any clandestine way to undermine what we did as an administration then.”

He urged journalists to effectively support the Gov. Oborevwori’s administration with same vigor, commitment with which they supported the immediate past government of Gov. Okowa.

He enjoined journalists to also give the current Commissioner for Information, Dr Ifeanyi Osuoza the same support.

According to him, Oborevwori’s administration is still putting things in order to enable it takeoff fully.

”I will still plead with you to have patient with us as an administration. You know there are lots of things that we are trying to put together to fully take off.

“Even yesterday, some appointments were being announced, which means this government is still being formed.

”There are lots of projects that we are handling, and policies that are being churned out.

“The governor is also being careful because there has been lots of changes in terms of our economy as a nation from when he took over and now,” Aniagwu said.

He said that Oborevwori does not want a situation where he goes ahead to push money out there and it fell on unfertile ground.

“So, he is being careful in terms of application of resources, others who do not understand may think that we are being slow, no.

“Those of us who are quite integral in the administration understand that we needed to be careful so that any fund that we spend, will give Deltans value for their money,” Aniagwu said.

The commissioner noted that there was the need for Oborevwori to understudy what he met and the impact of the present fluctuation of our currency on ongoing projects and intended projects.

“This is because if you do not have the clear understanding, there is the tendency that some persons who are either businessmen  would want to take advantage of the situation.

“The governor being one who have value for money, does not want to fall into that trap,” he said.

Aniagwu assures that in spite of the challenges, there were lots of activities all round the state, adding that activities to mark the Oborevwori’s one year in office were in top gear and under his purview as Commissioner for Works.

“Subject to the approval of His Excellency, by next week, we will begin inauguration of some projects across the 25 local government areas.

“Some are at the verge of being completed, some have been completed while some are being initiated but on the whole, every local government in Delta will have a fair share of this administration.

“I can confidently say that Oborevwori is determined to make lots of difference across the length and breadth of the state,” he said.

Aniagwu, who lectured journalists on what it takes to build a road in Delta, said it costs more to build a kilometer of road in the region than certain places in the country.

He tasks journalists to put facts straight before going to press by asking the right questions, while assuring journalists of government support.

Earlier, the Chairman, Asaba Correspondents’  Chapel, Mr Ifeanyi Olannye, said that the visit was to felicitate him on his appointment as Commissioner for Works; Rural and Riverine Roads.

He also urged the Commissioner to sustain the cordial relationship with journalists while asking for government continued partnership to deepen the development in the state in line with the MORE Agenda of the Gov. Oborevwori led administration.

“As a former Chief Press Secretary and Commissioner for Information under Gov. Okowa, you related well with journalists and you performed creditably well.

“We are sure that as a Commissioner for Works: Rural and Riverine Roads, in this administration, that you will deliver creditable,” Olannye said.

Delta govt releases N30 billion to contractors

Delta State Government, Tuesday, said it has released the sum of N30billion for the payment of outstanding certificates owed contractors in the state.

The State Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine Roads) Mr Charles Aniagwu disclosed this during an interview with journalists shortly after inspection of ongoing projects at Emevor and Evwreni in Isoko North and Ughelli North Local Government Areas of the state.

Aniagwu commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the approval, adding that it would encourage contractors to put in their best to deliver their projects on schedule.

According to him, not too long ago, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori approved the payment of contractors to the tune for almost N30billion to different contractors and that’s why you are seeing that a lot of our contractors have moved back to site.

“We are already making plans in no distant time to also continuously pay so that contractors can continue to work and our people continue to get value for the jobs that we have awarded for the ease of movements across the different 25 local government areas in Delta.

“We are not having any challenge and i am sure the contractors are doing quite fine and areas where they need us to fast track payment of interim certificates we have assured them that we will speed up the process so that at the end of the day nothing stalls the work they are doing,” he said.

He commended the youths of Emevor community for cooperating with the contractor, stressing that government would continue to sensitise the people to take ownership of projects executed in their areas.

“It behoves on communities to continue to cooperate with government and contractors that have been engaged by government to carry out projects in their communities.

“It is important that they own it, you will recall the last time I went on inspection, I did say that we are going to set up a call centre where the citizens will have the opportunity to interface with us.

“I am happy to announce that they are already interfacing with us such that if a contractor is not doing the right thing they can talk to us and if anybody is doing anything that will undermine the project the project in their communities they can also talk to us,” he stated.

The Commissioner also warned that the burning of tyres along roads are prohibited across the state and urged community leaders to continue sensitising the people to forestall further damage to the roads.

“The interface with communities will continue and we will continue to sensitise President Generals of community associations, the youth leaders and all such enlightened persons in these communities.

“They should impress it on their people for them to continue to exhibit the right attitude not only with respect to government properties but even private properties that are in their domain.

“By doing so, they will have much more longer time to enjoy such facilities and we will be glad if this road stands the test of time up to the next 30 years.

“This means that means instead of the community asking us to come and repair the road, they will be asking us to construct another one because whatever money we are going to bring back to repair what was intentionally spoilt could have been available for us to give them much more projects.

“Burning of tyres along tarred roads is strictly prohibited because once you do that, either in the name of protest you would have ended melting the asphalt in that place and once that happens you begin to have potholes on the road.

“We plead with our people to take care of projects that are sited in their different communities,” Aniagwu added.

Delta threatens to shut schools associated with cultism

The Delta State Government threatened on Thursday in Asaba to shut any school where students engage in cultism.

Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu issued the threat while reacting to a trending video of a secondary school where students allegedly engaged in “Snake Bite’’ cult activities.

He told newsmen that government had stepped up supervision of schools and any student found culpable would be punished accordingly.

Aniagwu said government would also shut any school where cult activities had been found and added that the Ministry of Education would increase its supervisory role to end the trend.

He blamed parents, teachers, religious leaders and sundry stakeholders for their negligence and abdication of duties and responsibilities toward their children and wards.

“Let nobody make any mistake to think that cultism is restricted to Delta.

“What we are suffering today flows from the failure of parents of yesterday, so parents of today must avoid such pitfalls.

“Beyond the fact that we have asked the supervisory ministry to increase supervision, the authority in any school where cultism is found, will be called to answer,’’ Aniagwu stressed.

On the recently-secured N71 billion supplementary budget by the outgoing government, the commissioner said it was aimed at meeting government’s obligations within the ambit of the law.

He said Gov. Okowa’s administration had pledged to work till May 28, the last day of its tenure.

Aniagwu noted also that Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, the incumbent Speaker, House of Assembly and governor-elect was also committed to work till the last day in office as speaker.

Delta Govt approves residential quarters for DELSUTH doctors

Delta State Executive Council on Monday approved the construction of residential quarters to accommodate Resident Doctors and House Officers at Delta State University Teaching Hospital (DELSUTH), Oghara.

The Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, disclosed this while briefing journalists on some of the decisions reached at the state’s Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa at Government House, Asaba.

Aniagwu said that the council also approved the furnishing of the new six-storey high court complex in Asaba, adding that the approval was in furtherance of the independence of the Judiciary in the state.

“In line with the governor’s promise to work till the last day in office, the state Executive Council has approved a number of projects, including the construction of 1.2km Ayo Ben Street at Agbor.

“The Exco approved the reconstruction of Sokoh Estate Road in Effurun, Uwvie Local Government Area of the state,” he said.

The commissioner listed other projects approved as construction of Comrade Reuben Izeze Boulevard in Ughelli South Local Government Area and the construction of Phase V of Okerenkoko township roads in Warri South West.

Also approved, according to him, are the construction of DSC Roundabout with some adjoining streets with Ughelli/Patani Expressway and the construction of Frank Monye Street in Boji-Boji Owa, Ika North East as well as NDDC Road.
