I will never marry a man who knows how to cook – Hilda Baci

Guinness World record winning chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey popularly known as Hilda Baci has revealed that she can’t date or marry a man who knows how to cook.

According to her, cooking is her passion, saying she doesn’t want a man who will outshine her in the kitchen.

The former Guinness World Record holder said her love language is a man ordering food for her.

Speaking in a viral podcast video making the rounds on X (formerly Twitter), Baci said, “I don’t want a man that knows how to cook. I don’t want it. I like cooking so much. My friends would tell you like Hilda would show you love, she will send you food. You will cook for you. That’s kind of one of the things I like to do for people that I care about, especially for my man.

“You can wake me up in the middle of the night and say, ‘Babe, I want a doughnut. I want meat pie.’ And I’m flying to the kitchen to make it for you. That’s my thing. I want a man that can order me food. If you don’t have a problem with ordering me food, I’m in love.”

An 18-year-old girl, on Tuesday, told a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Kubwa that her boss’ 36-year-old Chef, Daniel Johnson harassed her to have sex with him.

The Sexual and Gender based Violence Response Unit, Federal Ministry of Justice, charged Johnson with three counts bordering on unlawful intercourse with a child.

Led by the prosecution counsel, Temitayo Lawal, the teenager said that while waiting for admission into the university, she decided to help the complainant, Mrs Chika Ofomata with house chores.

“The defendant who is the complainant’s husband ‘s Chef, came to me while I was washing the children’s toilet and asked me if the room had cameras.

“I said no, then he started touching me. We were alone at home at the time, so I refused and told him I was busy.

” When I went home and told my mum everything, she asked me to tell the complainant who asked me to play along to get evidence against the defendant.

“Since then I started recording everything he said to me on my phone and I also have a video of when he asked me to meet him in the boys quarters,” she said.

She said that she has video of the defendant asking her  to have sex with her.

The teenager said that the defendant pestered her with calls and promises of money.

“While doing laundry, I saw some discharge in the eight- year-old’s underwear,” she said.

During cross-examination the defence counsel, Ebenezer Amadi asked the witness when she started working for the complainant.

Amadi also asked if the witness accepted to be the defendant’s girlfriend since she was instructed to play along by her boss.

He asked if the witness saw the defendant having intercourse with the minor.

In response she said the complainant was her mother’s friend and she only helped while awaiting admission to school.

She denied being the defendant’s girlfriend.

The teenager also said she did not see the defendant having sex with the minor.

After listening to the testimony, Justice Oluyemisi Adelaja however adjourned the case until Oct.10 for continuation of hearing.

Chef Hilda Baci slammed for eating dog meat

Chef Hilda Baci has been slammed by renowned  animal rights activist and President of My Dog & I group, Jackie Idimogu, for eating dog meat.

Baci who recently cooked for four days in an attempt to enter the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual, recently traveled to her home state alongside Enioluwa Adeoluwa for visitation.

The duo were captured in a viral video sitting at a table where dog meat was served. Hilda admitted that she eats dog meat while persuading Enioluwa to try it but he declined.

However, Idimogu has accused Hilda of practicing cruelty against animals, especially dogs.

She faulted Hilda for eating dog meat despite members of her group and their dogs coming to support the chef during her cookathon.

Idimogu said, “Members of My Dog & I group wore their shirts to go and support Hilda, dogs were present at the cookathon to support Hilda. I know that there were about two or three dogs because when my group members went there they made sure to take pictures and videos with every dog there.

“Now, imagine my surprise this evening, scrolling through Instagram and then I see on a news blog that this same Hilda posted that she is eating a dog.”

She said she was initially skeptical of supporting Hilda during her cookathon when she heard she was from Akwa Ibom but decided to give her the benefit of doubt because she thought the chef was exposed.

She added, “Hilda in her infinite mercy and wisdom, thought that the best thing for her to do after the world celebrated Nigeria through her relentlessness. And now that the torchlight of the world is on Nigeria through you, you decide that what you want to show the world is that Nigerians are dog eaters? No, no. I’m making this video to refute the fact that Nigerians are not dog eaters.”

  • Chefs: Behind healthy food choices, promoting healthy children

Chefs: Behind healthy food choices, promoting healthy children

    Analysis by Vivian Ihechu

“In lack or in excess, problems of nutrition always encompass inappropriate choices and practices and nutrition education is an important step in empowering the consumer to make healthy food choices,” says the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).

A core of those who help in making healthy food choices are the chefs; trained professional cooks and tradesmen who are proficient in all aspects of food preparation.

Since 2004, chefs have been celebrated annually on Oct. 20, as International Chefs Day.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the day was created by the late Dr. Billy Gallagher, a renowned chef, and businessman, who was the president of the South African Chefs Association for 21 years.

Gallagher also became the president of the World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS) in 1996.

Over the years, the World Chefs have partnered with platforms like Nestlé Professional – the company’s business that supplies the food and beverage out-of-home industry – to teach young children the importance of healthy eating through workshops across the globe.

Nestlé Professional in Nigeria marked the International Chefs Day 2022 at the new Lagos State Culinary Academy, Ikeja, with students from public and private secondary schools across Lagos.

The event featured training on the importance of healthy eating and lifestyles in line with this year’s International Chef’s Day theme: “Growing a Health Future.”
It was celebrated via a fun-filled educative workshop and practical sessions coordinated by chefs with a hands-on approach for the children.

They created recipes out of fresh food items including vegetables, fruits, and preparing healthy dishes during the cooking sessions.
Funmi Osineye, Business Manager, Nestlé Professional, said: “The wellbeing of their children is the fundamental goal for parents and caregivers. It is also an indicator of societal development.

“We are, therefore, committed to working with stakeholders to enhance the wellbeing of generations to come through nutrition education as well as continuous provision of high-quality nutritious food and beverages.

“Today’s event is a platform for continuous engagement to encourage children to be creative with food.”

Osineye acknowledged the Association of Professional Chefs Nigeria (APCN) for consistently partnering Nestlé to achieve the company’s global objective of helping 50 million children live healthier lives by 2030.

“We want to thank the Association of Professional Chefs Nigeria for partnering with us through the years.

“We are also grateful to the administrators of the Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board for their collaboration to celebrate Chef’s Day 2022.

“We are delighted to witness the sincere interest in skilling up young people in Lagos State for gainful employment in the hospitality sector,” she added.

Speaking, Paul Okon, National President, Association of Professional Chefs Nigeria (APCN), said: “It has been a great pleasure engaging, educating and enlightening children on healthy eating as we believe this is the foundation for a healthy future.

“We sincerely appreciate the role Nestlé Professional has played over the years, promoting Nigeria’s Food Tourism, supporting capacity development of Chefs and empowering the next generation of Chefs.”

In her comments, Moronke Azeez, Executive Secretary, Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board (LASTVEB) said, “We are delighted to be working with Nestlé on this laudable initiative which has been very impactful and a great learning exercise for the children.

“The event is fully aligned with the objective for the recent establishment of the Lagos Culinary Academy aimed at producing professionals for the hospitality and food service industry while equipping students for entrepreneurship and self-employment.”

Speaking on her experience, Chineze, an SS2 student of Ilupeju Senior Secondary School, said she enjoyed the event and learnt some practical meal recipes that she would cook at home.

On the importance of good nutrition, Dr Mekwuye Eric, Director of Training and Corporate Matter, APCN, explained: “It is our first defence against disease and our source of energy to live and be energetic.

“Nutritional challenges caused by an inadequate diet can be diverse, and when they affect a generation of young people, they can reduce their well-being and learning capacities.

    “These can compromise their future.”

He said in some instances, they could lead to an inter-generational cycle of malnutrition, which would ultimately have severe consequences on both individuals and nations.

“Good nutrition means your body gets all the nutrients, vitamins, and minerals it needs to work its best.

“Good nutrition helps increase your energy level, improves ability to fight off illness, recover from illnesses and injuries; improves mental, cognitive and physical well-being.

“It also reduces the risk of some diseases including heart disease, diabetes, stroke, some cancers, and osteoporosis, high blood pressure as well as helps to lower high cholesterol among others.,” the chef said.

Also, Chef Nick Maaji, Vice President, South West, APCN, giving tips on eating healthy, said: “We know how all over the world we are talking of climate change, flood, drought, environmental pollution.

“So many things affecting our environment and one of the biggest challenges in our environment is food.

“The way it is cultivated, harvested, preserved, distributed, prepared, eaten, all can affect our environment.

“So, I encourage us all to eat plenty of fruits. Eat fruits whole rather than as juices; eat a lot of whole grains, take low-fat or fat-free milk.

“Also take lean meats and poultry as they have less fat and fewer calories. In addition, try other vegetable sources of protein and drink lots of water.”

Concluding, Maaji said with a good chef, there would be healthy persons, families, and nation.
“Without good food, you can’t have a healthy future.

“Research shows that if we want to grow a healthy future, we have to eat more of vegetables, fruits, nuts and cut down on our red meat and sugar to about 50 per cent.”

He advised chefs to pass on to the younger generation the need for healthy meal for the future to be healthy for humanity.

A woman does not have to be super chef before I can marry her- Ruggedman

Veteran rapper and activist, Michael Stephens a.k.a Ruggedman has revealed that he is not under pressure to get married.

Speaking in a chat with Punch, he said: “I will get married when I am ready. (For me), marriage will only happen at the right time. I am not under any form of pressure to get married. I and my mum have spoken about it a few times and we are good. I don’t come from a family that does that (put pressure). I just want a woman that has a great sense of responsibility and knows how to live properly. I am not bothered about whether she is a good cook, as long as she can cook a little, that is fine with me. We could also order foods or eat out. I want a woman that I would be in love with. As for whatever quality she does not possess, we would work it out. For instance, what if she can cook and her character is terrible, what would one do? Being a super chef is not a priority for me. A woman does not have to be Miss World before I can marry her.”

Asked about what he has been up to recently, the rapper further said he had been busy shooting episodes of his radio talk show, ‘Wetin Dey With Ruggedman’, “I recently started my own radio show. I am deeply involved with helping people. When issues come to my attention, I point them in the right direction to get justice. I am also recording my Extended Play album titled, Situation,” he said.

  • Amazing! Russian chefs protest naked as COVID-19 lockdown diminishes their income

Amazing! Russian chefs protest naked as COVID-19 lockdown diminishes their income

Russian restaurant owners, whose income dropped due to the COVID-19 lockdown, have campaigned to reopen shops by posting photos of themselves naked on social media.

On Tuesday, pictures of residents said to be owners of bars, restaurants, and cafe employees, with carefully positioned plates, saucepans, bottles, and napkins, circulated on social media platforms.

Reuters report that the group demanded that the Russian authorities allow them to start serving clients as the country gradually eases measures to stop the spread of the novel virus.

Putin had ordered firm lockdown measures at the end of March — a directive that shut businesses except for food stores, pharmacies, although regions were conditionally allowed some adjustment.

But the country would on Monday declare that it would lift a range of anti-coronavirus measures including a strict lockdown on Moscow, despite still recording thousands of new cases.

While this would allow residents to travel freely for the first time since March, it was gathered that authorities in some cities including Novosibirsk had yet to say when restaurants can open.

“We are naked because we are left with nothing,” Arthur Galaychyuk, owner of the Relab Family bar chain in the city of Kazan, whose 20 employees took part in the campaign, reportedly said.

A chef known as Pavel from the Siberian city of Novosibirsk added: “We don’t want to stage a strip show or to fool around, we only want one thing to work!

“We don’t pose more of a risk then supermarkets, shopping malls, hair salons, or public transport.”

Ever since Russia’s first case of COVID-19, the country has so far recorded above 450,000 cases and over 6,100 deaths, according to worldometres.
