Jersey Drama: Sterling’s Chelsea future doubtful as Neto takes over his shirt

Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling has been stripped of his coveted No. 7 shirt, with new signing Pedro Neto being handed the iconic number for the upcoming season.

This decision comes as the Blues are open to listening to offers for Sterling, indicating a potential departure from the club.

Sterling had previously worn the No. 17 shirt after his move from Manchester City two years ago, before switching to the No. 7 shirt last season.

However, Neto, who made his debut against Manchester City on Sunday wearing the No. 19 shirt, will now take on the No. 7 jersey.

In another development, new signing Joao Felix will don the No. 14 shirt, which previously belonged to Trevoh Chalobah.

Chalobah has been informed in face-to-face talks with head coach Enzo Maresca that he is not part of the team’s plans for the upcoming season. Interestingly, Felix had worn the No. 14 shirt during his loan spell at Barcelona last season, and had previously worn the No. 11 shirt during his loan stint at Chelsea 18 months ago.

EPL: Chelsea must stop buying – Jamie Carragher

Ex-England international Jamie Carragher has slammed Chelsea’s transfer policy this summer.

The former Liverpool defender believes the Blues need to stop stockpiling players.

“Chelsea have just got to stop buying player

Chelsea have more than 40 first team players on their books, when clubs must submit squads of 25 for the Premier League.

“Chelsea have just got to stop buying players, and players have got to stop signing for Chelsea,” Carragher said on Sky Sports.

“If I was a player, I would look at that Chelsea project, why would you sign?

“The only reason why you would sign is because someone might say, your agent might say, “we’re getting a seven year deal on big money that’s guaranteed money for seven years”.

“You know what I’d say, back yourself as a player. Sign a four year deal at a proper club, and back yourself to do well, and then when you due for a renewal, your money goes up anyway. I don’t understand why players are signing seven-year deals.”

Chelsea secure Joao Felix transfer, medical scheduled for this week

Details of Chelsea’s agreement for João Félix have emerged. According to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Félix is set to sign a long-term contract with Chelsea, keeping him at Stamford Bridge until 2030.

Romano also revealed that the Portugal international is scheduled to travel to Chelsea for a medical examination this week. “João Félix is returning to Chelsea, here we go! The deal is finalized with Atlético Madrid and his agent Jorge Mendes,” Romano tweeted on Monday.

He added, “The contract runs until June 2030, with an option for João. Travel and medical tests are being arranged within the next 24-48 hours.”

Félix was notably absent from Atlético Madrid’s bench during his final match with the club, as he prepares to join Chelsea on a permanent basis later this week. Félix had previously played for Chelsea on loan from Atlético Madrid.

EPL: Haaland, Kovacic score as City beat Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge

Enzo Maresca’s tenure at Chelsea started with a 2-0 defeat against reigning champions Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.

The match began evenly, with both sides, featuring numerous changes, cautiously testing each other. Wesley Fofana missed a chance from a corner, while Jeremy Doku’s left-footed shot went wide.

However, in classic Manchester City style, Pep Guardiola’s side scored with their first shot on target. Erling Haaland capitalized on a loose ball, held off two defenders, and chipped it over Robert Sanchez for his 91st goal for City.

Kevin De Bruyne nearly doubled the lead as City began to dominate the midfield, putting Chelsea on the back foot.

Chelsea started to show signs of life in the final third, though Enzo Fernandez squandered a couple of opportunities. Just before halftime, they thought they had equalized when Ederson spilled a Cole Palmer shot into Nicolas Jackson’s path, who scored, only for the offside flag to disallow the goal, leaving them behind at the break.

Pep Guardiola substituted debutant Savinho with Phil Foden at halftime. City seemed more likely to score again, with Haaland’s effort being saved by Sanchez.

Maresca brought on new signing Pedro Neto just before the hour mark, and he nearly scored, but Rico Lewis’s excellent clearance denied him.

Chelsea kept pushing for an equalizer, with Nicolas Jackson’s snapshot saved by Ederson. City believed they had doubled their lead when Rico Lewis scored, but a foul by Haaland in the buildup led to the goal being disallowed, making it one goal ruled out for each side.

Chelsea continued to hold their own entering the final 10 minutes, delivering a strong performance against the champions.

In the dying moments, former Chelsea player Mateo Kovacic dribbled past Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo before scoring past Sanchez, sealing Maresca’s defeat.

  • EPL: Chelsea renew interest in Osimhen

EPL: Chelsea renew interest in Osimhen

Chelsea remain interested in Napoli striker Victor Osimhen but will only proceed with a loan move, according to The Telegraph. Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis is firm on suitors paying Osimhen’s €130m (£110.8m) release clause.

Both Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, however, are reluctant to meet this high price for the Super Eagles star. Chelsea were close to signing Samu Omorodion after agreeing on a €40m (£34.5m) deal with Atletico Madrid, but the move collapsed over personal terms disagreements.

With the Omorodion deal off the table, Chelsea has shifted their focus back to Osimhen, contingent on Napoli agreeing to an initial loan arrangement. This could pose a challenge, as Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calenda, has dismissed the notion of the striker leaving Napoli for a reduced fee.

EPL: Chelsea to trim down squad ahead of next season

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is aiming to reduce his bloated squad as the new season approaches, according to the UK Telegraph.

Maresca is preparing for his debut season at Stamford Bridge, having replaced Mauricio Pochettino this summer. Inheriting a large squad, he now seeks to trim it to a manageable size.

Chelsea reportedly aims to maintain a first-team squad of around 23 or 24 outfield players.

This means several players are expected to leave either permanently or on loan.

The club’s recent £54m acquisition of Neto from Wolves marks their 12th summer signing, bringing their total spending since June 14 to £243m. This has expanded the Blues’ squad to over 50 senior players.

Chelsea have banned Trevoh Chalobah from using the first team’s training facilities.

Chelsea have transfer-listed the defender and encouraged him to find himself a new club.

The Sun says Chalobah, along with Armando Broja and Romelu Lukaku, are now training with the development squad.

Chalobah, 25, has been a Chelsea player since he was eight years of age.

Crystal Palace and Aston Villa are interested in the young defender this month.

Chelsea FC  have agreed to sign Portuguese winger, Pedro Neto from Wolves for a fee of £54 million

According to The Athletic, the deal was reached earlier on Friday.

On Friday, Chelsea agreed to pay an initial £51.4m payment and a further £2.6m (€3m) in add-ons.

The player is understood to be travelling to London for a medical now.

Neto was previously linked with Arsenal, Man City, Liverpool and Tottenham.

But Chelsea has stolen a march on their Premier League rivals and will add the Portugal forward to their attack.

Chelsea will play Manchester City in the opening match of the next season coming up next Sunday.

The Englishman is set to sign a multi-year contract with Diego Simeone’s team in the coming days.

Per The Mirror and other sources, Gallagher has passed his medical tests with flying colors.

He will now be talking about personal terms with Atleti, which are not thought to be an issue.

Transfers: Osimhen sets terms and conditions for Chelsea

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has set two conditions for joining Chelsea this summer.

Osimhen’s future with the former Serie A champions is uncertain, with no active talks ongoing despite his availability.

Chelsea aims to secure the Nigerian on a loan deal while sending Romelu Lukaku to Napoli on a permanent basis.

However, football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano stated on YouTube today that Osimhen “is not considering a loan with an option to buy.” Additionally, Romano noted that the Super Eagles striker “will not reduce his salary” to facilitate a move to Chelsea.

Reports also indicate that Arsenal is monitoring Osimhen’s situation.
