Football Transfers: Chelsea’s Noni Madueke poised to join Newcastle Utd

Chukwunonso ‘Noni’ Madueke is reportedly close to leaving Chelsea to join Newcastle United.

Madueke joined Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023. Despite a slow start in West London, he displayed flashes of his potential last season, scoring six goals and providing two assists in 29 appearances. However, the 23-year-old winger started only 17 of those games, often playing second fiddle to Cole Palmer.

With new manager Enzo Maresca unlikely to change this arrangement, Madueke has decided to leave Chelsea. According to Football Insider, he has agreed to a deal with Newcastle United, where he hopes to flourish under Eddie Howe.

Currently 22 years old, Madueke is on Chelsea’s pre-season tour in the USA and played in their 2-2 draw with Wrexham on Thursday, July 25. Newcastle is expected to match the £29 million Chelsea paid PSV for Madueke last year.

Internationally, Madueke was born in Barnet, London, to Nigerian parents, making him eligible to represent both Nigeria and England.

He has already played for England from U16 to U21 levels and was a key member of the squad that won the UEFA European Under-21 Championship last year.

Jack Marriott and Luke Bolton scored in the second half of the encounter to put Wrexham in the lead, but Ugochukwu equalized late in the game to even out the scoreline.

Christopher Nkunku had initially put the Blues in the lead inthe first half.

After the game, Parkinson said: “You’ve got to put it into context. We’ve played a billion-pound team, they’ve spent so much money, and two years ago we were playing in the National League.

“To go toe-to-toe with Chelsea tonight, you can understand what an effort that was from the lads and we could and should have won the game.”

  • EPL: Chelsea table €60m plus Romelu Lukaku, Cesare Casadei to Napoli for Osimhen

EPL: Chelsea table €60m plus Romelu Lukaku, Cesare Casadei to Napoli for Osimhen

Chelsea FC have tabled  Romelu Lukaku and Cesare Casadei to Serie A side, Napoli as part of the deal to acquire Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen at a lower cost.

Osimhen is frustrated at the lack of interest on the transfer market, as he only signed a new contract in December with the express and stated intention of leaving this summer.

Napoli initially placed a whooping €130m as his release clause but that is considered far too high by the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea, who instead looked at other targets.

Recent developments show that Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid no longer show interest in the forward.

With this in mind, TEAMtalk claimed  that Chelsea are talking to Napoli about various options to exchange players, which would bring down the overall cost of the operation.

Lukaku is the inevitable candidate, seeing as Napoli’s new coach Antonio Conte is desperate to reunite with the former Inter striker and he is not part of the plans at Stamford Bridge.

Armando Broja and Trevoh Chalobah were mentioned, but neither of them are of particular interest to the Partenopei.

If Lukaku and Casadei were part of the deal, Chelsea would hope to pay only €60m cash for Osimhen.

The forard has resumed pre -season training with Napoli but could be putting pen to paper for a new club ahead of next season.

Lukaku and Chalobah are both on Chelsea’s transfer-list, though any deal for Chukwuemeka is unlikely.

All three players are admired by new Milan coach Paulo Fonseca.

Chelsea are insisting Lukaku and Chalobah will only leave for straight sales this summer. A loan arrangement for Chukwuemeka could be an option, particularly with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall about to arrive from Leicester City.
