Arsenal move happened in less than 48hrs – Jorginho

Arsenal midfielder Jorginho admits January’s move from Chelsea surprised him.

The veteran has become a valued option for Gunners boss Mikel Arteta.

He recalled: “I didn’t see that coming, to be honest.

“It happened in less than 48 hours. It was very, very quick.

“I saw the opportunity of working in a team that had an amazing project, of growing a team, to try and achieve.

“And I felt they wanted me to give this help to improve the team, bring good energy — and I am glad they knew I would always put the team first.

“The project convinced me straight away to come.”

Arteta also said: “As a role model, you want to look at somebody with his career and the way he acts every single day.

“He understands his role in a great way and whatever you ask him to do he will do it at his best — and that’s something rare.

“The detail that he can go into, the understanding of what is happening live in the game, how he can correct it and how he can attract the attention of his team-mates to listen to him and do what he is telling them to do. It is very impressive.

“When he’s on the bench, he’s like another coach.”

Manchester City on Saturday drew 2-2 with visiting Crystal Palace after leading  2-0 in the encounter for 76 minute at the Ethihad.

Nigerian-born Michael Olise converted a penalty deep in added time as a resilient Crystal Palace side hit back from 2-0 down against Premier League champions Manchester City to snatch a dramatic 2-2 draw at the death.
Jack Grealish had put City ahead in the 24th minute of the encounter, thus making it his third goal in three games  as City looked to move second in the table before Rico Lewis slammed home his first Premier League goal from inside the box for City’s second on 54 minutes, however  Jean-Philippe Mateta began the unlikely Palace fightback by converting from close range on 76 minutes.
Again, Mateta won his side a penalty when he was clearly taken out late by Phil Foden with only minutes left on the clock to stun the City fans, who had watched their side dominate possession and chances.
The resultant penalty was converted by the visitors who left Etihad with a vital away point.

Chelsea Football  club  recorded back-to-back home wins for the first in a year after seeing off Sheffield United 2-0 courtesy of goals from Cole Palmer in the 54th minute and Senegal attacker, Nicolas Jackson 61st minute strike.

The match  turned out to be  a one-sided affair but it took the hosts some time to break down the visitors.

All efforts to score a goal in the encounter proved abortive for the visitors who are still languishing in relegation waters.

New boy Nkunku who has been out injured since he  joined the Blues  would have to wait for his debut as he was an unused substitute today.

Newcastle on Saturday evening at Saint James’ park defeated high flying Fulham 3-0 in a very thrilling encounter.

After a goalless first half, Lewis Miley, Miguel Almiron and Daniel Burn gave the Tofees the needed victory and maximum points.

Prior to the game, Newcastle had suffered defeats in their last two Premier League matches. Interestingly, both encounters resulted in heavy losses for Eddie Howe’s side. Firstly, the Magpies lost 3-0 away to Everton, followed by a 4-1 defeat against Tottenham in London.

These losses have pushed Newcastle seven points away from the Champions League zone.

After 16 rounds, the team sits in seventh place with 26 points. Additionally, Newcastle faced a loss at home against AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League earlier this week, leading to their exit from European competition.

But the Toofees shoved their defeats aside to inflict a heavy loss on Fulham to improve their ranking on the log.

Chelsea slip to 12th in the table with 19 points from 16 games, while Everton have 13 points from 16 games. Without their 10-point deduction for financial breaches, against which they have appealed, Everton would be in 10th, four points ahead of Chelsea.

Elsewhere, Manchester City snatched victory from a losing position  against Luton town at Kenilworth road on matchday 16.

Although, While being nowhere near their best, City battled back to win and are just four points off table toppers Liverpool.

Without Erling Haaland in the squad, the visitors struggled to capitalize on their possession in  the first half and, aided by some fine saves from Thomas Kaminski, kept them at bay.

Elijah Adebayo leapt above everyone else to nod home the opener just before the half-time break for the opener for Luton town.

In the second half, Man City picked up where they left off and pushed the Hatters deep. Bernardo Silva curled in a superb left-footed strike just after the hour mark to equalize before Jack Grealish slotted home the decisive goal to secure the points for the champions.

At  the Craven Cottage, West Ham United’s six-game unbeaten run came to an end in a humilatory fashion after surrendering to Fulham 5-0.

The Irons were unable to build on their stunning win at Tottenham Hotspur in midweek, as goals from Raúl Jiménez, Willian and Tosin Adarabioyo had the game all but won by the break.

Substitutes Harry Wilson and Carlos Vinícius scored the fourth and Fifth goal of the campaign to end the rout at Craven Cottage.

The result dashed West Ham’s hopes of making it to the top six of the log.

I learned so much from Chelsea players – Tuchel

Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel has paid tribute to his Champions League winners at Chelsea.

On the podium at the Munich sports trade fair ISPO, Tuchel discussed his relationship with the players he managed.

“There are the big names, but there are also the quiet superstars like Gündogan, Mkhitaryan in Dortmund, Marquinhos, and Thiago Silva in Paris. Or Kanté, Mount, Kovacic, Havertz in Chelsea,” he said.

Tuchel continued: “I learned so much from these players as a coach. They are as important as role models as they carry the team.”

In contrast, Tuchel said of Kylian Mbappé: “They are very demanding and full of talent. They have a big ego which drives them forward. You need a good connection, otherwise you won’t be able to convince them of your ideas.”

In an interview with the club’s website, Silva stated: “I have to say, at every club I’ve been at, I’ve felt a lot of love from the clubs themselves and the fans, but here it feels a little bit different, because of the fact that my kids are playing in the team too.

“I love seeing my kids playing here, my wife is here all the time and even wants to be at every away game. I think she realizes that time is running out slightly, so she wants to make the most of the last few years of my career.

Pochettino slams Chelsea players after Newcastle defeat

The Blues lost 4-1 on the day with captain Reece James being sent off.

Pochettino said: “We were not prepared in the best way to compete today. That is my concern. We thought we were ready to compete today but we didn’t in the way the competition demanded.

“Even if Newcastle wasn’t great, it was an easy win. To come here, Chelsea, and show it would be difficult for them to play to win the game and beat us. It was so easy the way that we conceded. the way we were soft in every single challenge, we did not show we were playing for something important.

“That is why it made me angry and disappointed. Even if we talk about being a young team, we need to learn. These type of games make me very, very, very, very, very angry because it is about showing more personality and character. Okay we are young but we can not miss this type of opportunity to show our best.

“We can not come from Tottenham, Man City, [where] around the world people praised Chelsea and then… ‘Okay, I stop one step before, I don’t do the effort in the right moment. Ok no problem it is going to fix my teammate in behind’. That is a problem. We need to be more solid in this area.

“Mental of course and attitude, it is not attitude, it is about showing more strength in our mental game and be ready to compete. This is not the same that play football. I can play football, you can play football but to compete? I want to be ready to compete but today we didn’t.”
