EPL: Glen Johnson predicts outcome of Chelsea vs Manchester City clash

Former Chelsea and England defender, Glen Johnson has predicted the outcome of the Premier League clash  between the Blues and Manchester City.

Chelsea will host Man City on Sunday evening in Sunday’s Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge.

However, while giving his prediction, Johnson predicted his former side Chelsea to play an outright draw against  Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.

“I do believe they have a chance. Before the Tottenham game, people were debating whether Mauricio Pochettino was under pressure with their next five fixtures looking very tough, but sometimes top teams thrive on that added pressure,” Johnson told Betfred.

“Against Manchester City, of course, it’s going to be very tough for Chelsea but they’re at home and are coming into the fixture off the back of a good result, so personally, I believe it will be a draw.

“I think they will get something out of the game, but I don’t know whether they will be capable of winning.”

Why Terry didn’t join my Chelsea staff – Lampard

Former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has indicated his reasons for not bringing John Terry into the fold last season.

Lampard, who was permanent boss at the club a few years ago and caretaker for a portion of last season, did not include Terry in his coaching staff when he replaced Graham Potter.

However, Lampard has admitted that he had limitations on his coaching staff last season, due to only being a temporary hire.

“I have the upmost respect for JT on every level, so in terms of the club asking John that’s not for me to answer,” Lampard stated on ex-teammate John Obi Mikel’s Obi One podcast.

‘In terms of me, the club came to me and it happened very quickly. The first time they came to me I probably had about a day to say yes or no.

“They wanted me to bring in two staff. Anyone who works in this game will know that when you are bringing in staff it is a big question, who are your staff and how many do you want to bring.

“I had been at Chelsea before that, Derby, Chelsea and Everton working with my staff. I ended up bringing in three as Ashley [Cole] came in to do set pieces for me at Everton.

“The people I was working with were Chris Jones and Joe Edwards, so there was nowhere for me to go.”

upon resumption of the  the second half, Destiny Udogie clipped Sterling and earned a second booking causing Tottenham to finish the game with nine men. They kept Chelsea at bay  for 17 minutes before Sterling nipped in behind and played in Nicolas Jackson.

EPL: Chelsea face points deduction over alleged financial breaches

The Premier League could punish Chelsea after it was reported that the London side allegedly made secret payments concerning  the transfers of Willian and Samuel Eto’o.

The PL is now investigating an alleged financial breaches at Stamford Bridge.

Ironically, these deals were reported to authorities by the Todd Boehly consortium once they took over the club in May 2022.

The new owners bought Chelsea from Roman Abramovich after the UK government sanctioned the oligarch following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

In the past, the Blues were fined £8.6 million by UEFA for submitting “incomplete financial information” between 2012 and 2019.

But The Times reports that it could get worse, with the transfers of Willian and Eto’o from Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala in August 2013 now under the microscope.

Financial records allegedly show that payments were made by Chelsea to offshore companies and “Russian entities” separate from any transfer fee.

Willian was signed for £30 million from Anzhi, while Eto’o arrived on a free transfer.

There is no suggestion that either player knew of the payments.
