    Oba of Benin sacks chief priest

    The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, on Thursday deposed Ovbokhan Igbinovia as the traditional Chief  Priest of Okhuoromi Community in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo.

    Oba Ewuare stripped Igbinovia’s title of Ohen(Chief Priest), after reviewing the abominable traditional practices, including land grabbing.

    Other allegations against Igbinovia, included extortion, and unauthorised private property demolition in clear violation of Benin customs and tradition.

    Chief Osaro Idah, the Obazelu of Benin, conveyed Oba Ewuare’s decision to the elders of Okhuoromi, led by its Odionwere (village head), Pa. Oghagbon Edosomwan, who was mandated to administer the area on his behalf henceforth.

    Idah with other Palace Chiefs, Isaac Oyeoba (Oyeoba of Benin) and Chief Uyi Okungbowa (Ogua of Benin), addressed the Okhuoromi elders and victims of land grabbing and property demolition in the Oba Palace in Benin.

    Idah said that anyone who contravened the verdict would incur the wrath of the law and ancestors.

    According to Oba Ewuare, the Benin throne does not support acts of lawlessness and criminality under any guise, distancing the Benin palace from the alleged sacrilege.

    He urged the Okhuoromi people to eschew violence.

    Oba Ewuare assured the victims of land grabbing and extortion, who were caught in the deposed priest’s web and his agents, that justice  would be served in due course.

    He noted that palace chiefs had been assigned to further investigate and assess the level of damage in the community.

    The Oba urged individuals with claims regarding the issues to channel their complaints, with pictorial and video evidence, to the appropriate authority.

    Reacting, Obi Cubana via the comment section of the post, praised his friend as he noted how Chief Priest always, set records and breaks them.

    Lagos govt raids Cubana club, to prosecute 28 vehicles owners

    In the wee hours of Saturday, the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce team conducted an early morning raid at Cubana’s club, removing twenty-eight car plates parked illegally.

    The state commissioner for environment and water resources, Tokunbo Wahab, via the microblogging platform X, disclosed that it will take action against owners of vehicles whose plate number was confiscated.

    Sharing the video, the commissioner said they were illegally parked and causing traffic obstructions.

    The statement said 28 number plates of the “offending vehicles” were seized, and the owners would be charged in court.

    “The Lagos state environmental/security taskforce team today at about 1 am carried out a night enforcement operation, during which number plates of vehicles parked illegally in front of Cubana night club, obstructing the free flow of traffic along Sobo Arobiodu road, GRA Ikeja, were untied and confiscated,” the statement reads.

    “28 number plates of vehicles caught violating the Lagos state traffic regulations at the location were all removed. Owners of the offending vehicles will all be charged to court.”

    As the entire Anambra State battle to come to terms with last Friday’s ghastly boat accident, another twist emerged with the self-acclaimed Chief Priest to the marine spirit, Ezendu Onyesom, claiming that the accident was caused by mammy water (mermaid).

    The priest, who spoke to journalists, said that the mermaid, who told him during consultation that she was not happy with the dilapidated state of the roads in the area.

    According to him, the mermaid said the increased traffic on the river following the bad state of the road was disturbing her peace.

    His words: “After the incident, we did some consultations with the queen (mammy water) and she told us that she was angry with government.

    “We asked her why she was angry with government? She said the state government has refused to do a major road in the area that got spoilt recently. She said the bad road has made most people in the locality to travel by river to disturb her peace.

    “She said before the road got spoilt majority of the people in the area travelled by road. She said the river is meant to be quiet for aquatic life to thrive.

    We are looking for ways to appease the queen to avoid more mishaps because she threatened that more harm would occur on that route of the river if the government refused to do the road.”

    Onyesom said that traditional worshippers in the Ogbaru area would want to relate with both the local and state governments to pass across their message.

    Yes we are holding Cubana chief priest, EFCC confirms

    Finally, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has confirmed that Cubana Chief Priest, Paschal Okechukwu is in their custody.

    TheNewsGuru.com, (TNG) recalls that Okechukwu was arrested by officials of the commission last Thursday at the Murtala Mohammed airport in Abuja after several invitations.

    He has been in the custody of the commission for 4 days now.

    Speaking on the development when contacted on Sunday night, EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren confirmed that the club owner was in their custody.

    He said; “I can only confirm the arrest to you, no details for now”. He however failed to go into details of the case and did not disclose if the socialite will be granted bail anytime soon.

    Okechukwu is being grilled on allegations of Money Laundering and Tax Fraud. He was on his way to Owerri when he was nabbed by the Anti-graft agency.

    The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has nabbed popular Nigerian socialite Cubana Chief Priest on charges bordering on money laundering and tax fraud, officials familiar with the matter said.

    Pascal Okechukwu, his real name, was arrested at the Lagos airport on Thursday, but anti-graft officials hushed the development amidst pressure from his associates and family, who said the matter could complicate conditions for others likely connected to the alleged racket.

    Mr Okechukwu’s arrest has made it impossible for him to return birthday greetings from his nearly four million Instagram followers, with only his wife being permitted to see him in custody.

    The socialite who is a brand ambassador to some international brands may have a lot to spill if deeply probed.

    Police arrest suspected ESN/IPOB chief priest in Imo, recover arms

    Police command in Imo says it has arrested a native doctor, Ikechukwu Umaefulam, suspected to be the chief priest of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
    The Commissioner of Police in Imo, Abutu Yaro, made the disclosure in a press statement signed by the command’s spokesman CSP Mike Abattam on Tuesday.
    He said a pump action riffle with live ammunition was also recovered from him.
    “Sequel to the ceaseless raids on the proscribed IPOB/ESN camps and the successful neutralisation and decimation of the terror groups in the state, the command has arrested the chief priest of the terror group.
    “On 4/8/2021 at about 1820 hours, while interrogating suspects arrested from Okporo, Orlu LGA, one of the suspects revealed that they now patronise spiritual homes before attacking police stations.
    “The suspect led the ever active Imo command’s tactical team to the home of one Ikechukwu Umaefulem, the Chief Priest and Spiritual leader of Life Sabbath Synagogue Amii, Akabo in Ikeduru LGA.
    “When his spiritual home and premises was searched, police recovered one pump action gun with five rounds of live ammunition,” he said.
    He added that one improvised explosive device, knockouts, gun powder and a Biafran flag were recovered from him.

    Delta chief priest stabbed to death for impregnating Muslim lady

    The Chief Priest of the Igbudu community in Warri South council area of Delta, Victor Alawuru, has been stabbed to death for allegedly impregnating a Muslim lady.

    According to reports, the incident happened along Degbori Street in the Hausa Quarters axis of the community with people running helter-skelter in the neighbourhood on Friday evening.

    It was gathered youths of the Igbudu market sought to launch a retaliatory attack on the hoodlums believed to be some ‘Hausa boys’.

    The victim, 23, was said to be a grandson of Alawuru, a popular family name in Warri and Udu areas, and only took up his priestly duties about two years ago.

    According to residents, the victim impregnated a ‘Hausa lady’, which did not go well with her Muslim parents, who are against the relationship based on religious differences.

    Some others claimed that he (the victim) was killed because he rejected the pregnancy.

    It was gathered the deceased had gone for a festival on the street when he was attacked and stabbed by hoodlums reportedly from the Hausa enclave.

    “The deceased was killed because a Hausa lady got pregnant for him. He allegedly rejected the pregnancy. The incident has brought serious tension,” a source claimed.

    Another source said: “The hoodlums who are believed to be from the Hausa community attacked and stabbed him to death on Thursday.

    “The Igbudu community youths are angry over the death of the deceased. Thus, fighting, robbery, and a riot broke out between the Urhobo and Hausa groups.

    “The ever-busy Igbudu market was forcefully closed on Friday evening as traders ran away for the safety of their lives. And there are fears that the youths may avenge the death of the chief priest.

    “The incident is a bad one because cult groups have taken over the fight. The last person that was killed by the same group during the lockdown was the younger brother of Mr. Victor. The people of the priest are angry”.

    A senior police source at the Warri Area Command revealed that the parents wanted the girl to terminate the pregnancy but she refused.

    “They said a Hausa girl was pregnant for him and the parents wanted her to terminate the pregnancy but she ran to the police station.

    “So the girl said Christian girls do get pregnant for Muslims so why can’t she? And she decided to keep the pregnancy.

    “They were having a festival in that area and the said chief priest was passing. They said some Hausa boys now pointed that ‘look at the man that brought disgrace (impregnating the Hausa girl) to us’ and one of them stabbed him to death,” the police source disclosed.

    Asked if the chief priest had rejected the pregnancy, the Police said “he didn’t. They said their daughter shouldn’t have been pregnant for a non-Muslim”.

    Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the killing of the chief priest by suspected ‘Hausa boys’.

    “Yes, the chief priest was killed but not because he was a chief priest. The area is calm now,” the PPRO said.

    Chief priest suspended for flouting COVID-19 protocols

    For flouting protocols emplaced to contain the spread of Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the Ovie of Uvwie kingdom in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, Abe 1 has suspended Robinson Adereyo, the Chief Priest of Owhoru deity.

    The Ovie of Uvwie kingdom announced the suspension of the chief priest on Tuesday at his Palace during a meeting that was attended by the Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Council, Hon Ramson Onoyake.

    The Ovie had directed that all cultural festivals in the kingdom be suspended pending when the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic is curtailed.

    However, last weekend, the chief priest reportedly flouted the directive of the king to celebrate, in company of his disciples, the Owhoru cultural festival.

    Abe 1, who directed that the next priest in order of seniority should act during the 6 months period of the suspension, also directed the LGA Chairman to carry out COVID-19 test for the suspended chief priest and his disciples.

    Present at the meeting when the chief priest was suspended were the Unuevworo (traditional mouthpiece) of Etche R’ Ekpan (traditional administrative unit), Chief Peter Ifie and some Uvwie chiefs in Ekpan.

    Also present at the meeting were the Unuevworo of Alegbo, Divisional Police Officer, Ekpan Police station and other heads of government security agencies in the council area.
