Ex- Labour Party Guber candidate Chijioke Edeoga returns to PDP

Chijioke Edeoga, the former Labour Party (LP) guber candidate in Enugu State, has officially rejoined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

His return marks a significant political shift in the state’s political landscape.

    Edeoga’s Political Comeback
Reports indicate that Edeoga had initially met with the leadership of the PDP’s Enugu chapter in January, sparking speculation about his potential return to the party.

During the meeting, the former Commissioner for Environment under Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi emphasized that he would engage in thorough consultations before making his final decision.

“I will consult, I will consult widely, because I am a product of several men of goodwill. I will have to take back the message from the chairman and his team. I have enormous respect for the team and the chairman. It is not in the nature of Igbo people to hear such a weighty thing and respond immediately. We say, ‘Let’s take it home.’ I’m going to take it home. Then as quickly as possible, as early as possible, I will get back to the chairman, and my position will be made known,” Edeoga stated at the time.

    Official Return to PDP
On Monday, Edeoga made a decisive move by storming the PDP secretariat in Enugu, where he formally rejoined the party. His return signals a renewed alliance with his former political base.

Edeoga is a seasoned politician with a wealth of experience. He previously served as the Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs, a local government chairman of Isi-Uzo, and a Special Adviser on Legislative Matters to the former Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu.

Political Journey and Labour Party Experience
Edeoga’s political trajectory took a turn when he contested for the PDP governorship ticket but lost to Peter Mbah, who eventually became governor. Following his defeat, he moved to the Labour Party, where he secured the party’s gubernatorial ticket and contested in the 2023 elections. His return to the PDP suggests a strategic realignment as he continues to shape his political future in Enugu State.

With this development, political analysts anticipate that Edeoga’s return could influence the dynamics of Enugu’s political scene ahead of future elections. The PDP leadership in the state is expected to integrate him back into its fold, potentially leveraging his influence and experience for upcoming political activities.

His supporters and political observers alike are keenly watching what role he will play in the party’s affairs in the coming months.

Enugu commissioner, Edeoga resigns over alleged governorship ticket

The Enugu State Commissioner for Environment and Mineral Resources, Mr Chijioke Edeoga, has resigned his position over alleged governorship ticket.

He was reported to have picked the governorship form of the Peoples Democratic Party to contest the governorship position in the state in the 2023 general election.

Edeogs resigned from the state’s executive council last Friday.

He made his resignation known in his farewell remarks to the staff of the ministry on Wednesday.

The commissioner, who is believed to be the most favoured candidate of the power brokers and even the governor, is the only appointee that had resigned to contest for the top office in the state.

Addressing the staff of the ministry, Edeoga said his voluntary resignation was to enable him to pursue his political aspiration and also to align himself with the provisions of the newly amended Electoral Act, 2022.

“Regarding the 2023 elections, the justice of the matter is on our side. The voices of the majority of the people are properly aligned. Victory by God’s grace is assured,” he stated.

The commissioner expressed gratitude to God for the period he superintended over the affairs of the ministry from 2019 to the date of his resignation.

Efeoga also thanked the management and staff of the ministry for their support and cooperation while he worked with them.

He further thanked Governor Ugwuanyi, for finding him worthy to serve under his administration as commissioner from 2015 till Wednesday, March 30, 2022.

The permanent secretary at the ministry, Mrs Chinwe Amadi, expressed her profound gratitude to God for bringing Edeoga to the ministry.

She described Edeoga as “a man of peace, loving and caring leader who understands the feelings of those under him; and can make people around him laugh even when they are not in the best of mood.”
