Chike reveals why he prefers dating older women

Nigerian singer, Chike Ezekpeazu Osebuka, known as Chike, has revealed why he prefer romantic relationships with older women.

The  singer expressed that he finds older women more adept at effective communication, suggesting that they tend to excel in this aspect as they age.

Chike disclosed this in an appearance on a recent episode of the Unpack Podcast, hosted by NAY.

According to him, “Most can’t communicate properly. The time you start finding a woman who can communicate, they are slightly advanced in age. Not a girl of 23 years.

“Imagine I’m running around with some 23-year-old, what’s she going to handle? What’s she going to understand?

“She just wanna take pictures and be on Instagram and tell everybody that she’s dating you. What are you unpacking for that person?

“Let’s be honest, you can find younger women who are so mature, but they are rare. But you find it more in older women.

“Then, before you know it, you find guys dating older women. And you wonder what is going on. It’s because, as a guy, when you are getting to a place where you want a certain level of peace, it’s only older women who can give you that.

“The past two relationships I have been in, they [my partners] have been older than me. There is no small girl that can say I am dating her.

“I mean, I probably just say ‘Hi’ to them [younger women]. And that’s it. It’s not going to get past that. Because I know where it’s going. Our visions are just not the same.”

Glo names Asake, Kizz Daniel, Chike brand ambassadors

Digital solutions provider, Globacom, has unveiled three top Nigerian music acts, Asake, Kizz Daniel and Chike, as new brand ambassadors.

They were unveiled at a colourful ceremony at the company’s corporate headquarters, Mike Adenuga Towers, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Globacom said the engagement of the icons “is meant to project the best Nigerians as models for younger people who are tirelessly aspiring to succeed. This is more important in an era where positive heroes and mentors are scarce and hard to come by. The intention is not just to promote the growth of music, Nollywood and sports where we have been very prominent, but also to encourage our teeming youths to aspire toward realizing their dreams by looking up to these ambassadors as mentors”.

It stated that it was celebrating its 20th anniversary “with the appointment of these new ambassadors to project the power of youth and enterprise and how much they can achieve with the right focus, passion and dedication that can come from seeing others who have succeeded. This is very much part of our tradition as we believe the strength of a nation lies in the ability and potentials of its youth”.

Globacom has been synonymous with sponsorship of major events and appointment of talented Nigerians as ambassadors since 2003 when it rolled out services and this, the company said, had become a practice for which Globacom has always led the way in Nigeria.

Glo, which pledged to continue to promote the entertainment sector as it held great prospects to promote Nigeria to the world and also transforming lives, also said that “having these stars as ambassadors is our way of inspiring a whole generation of young people with vision who can do better and achieve more without losing hope along the way, even when confronted with challenges,”.

While promising to represent the Glo brand by projecting the ideals of the company at all times, the three stars thanked the founder and Chairman of Globacom, Dr Mike Adenuga Jr., for the honour done to them.

  • Your earning will drop if you are everywhere as an artiste-Chike

Your earning will drop if you are everywhere as an artiste-Chike

Popular soulful singer, Chike has revealed that artistes are more valuable when they are not easily accessible, noting that “there’s profit in scarcity”.

The ‘Roju’ singer said this during a chat with BBC Igbo,

“There’s only so much you can do about it. I like doing my things myself so fame was a serious adjustment for me. A lot of things I liked to do, I had to quit. You can almost not use the public car wash anymore,” the singer said.

“Not that I no longer like these things; I’m comfortable doing them but, in our profession, there’s profit in scarcity.

“If people start seeing you everywhere, it then looks as though you’re easily accessible. Continue that way, and your earnings will drop. I like to mingle with people but we can only follow up with what earns us money.

“What I’m trying to do is expanding my music audience beyond Nigeria. The western world is important but the East African market matters too. I’ve had a lot of western influence too.”

Chike also opened up on his music style and singing in his native tongue.

“I want to believe that Igbo people in Nigeria and those exporting themselves are much. Up until now, I don’t understand what Master KG is saying in ‘Jerusalema’. And he did a feature with Burna Boy,” he said.

“It’s all about the melody. If you’re too conscious about accommodating languages so foreigners can understand, you may end up losing that appeal. I speak Igbo. I can’t blame others for not understanding my native tongue.

“Both of my parents are from Onitsha. That way, I had access to the culture and food. It’s unlike an Igbo man who married a northerner for example. For the music, once I include my language and ensure that it flows, that’s okay.

“In ‘Jerusalema’, people don’t even understand the lyrics and it was a massive African hit.

“In my next album to come in 2022, I won’t take away the support I got from those who understand my language. It not as if I spoke Igbo a lot in my first. But my mindset is that music is for the world, regardless of where you are.”

Chike is known for participating in Project Fame West Africa and finishing in second place on Season 1 of The Voice Nigeria. He made his acting debut as Mayowa Badmus on the Africa Magic Showcase telenovela ‘Battleground’.

In 2020, Chike released ‘Boo of the Booless’, a 14-track album, and performed on the 2020 BBNaija reality show.

  • I struggled for three years after The Voice Nigeria -Chike

I struggled for three years after The Voice Nigeria -Chike

Chike, Nigerian singer and songwriter, stated that it took him over three years to find his feet after he participated at ‘The Voice Nigeria.

The talented singer participated in the maiden edition of the show in 2016 where he emerged the runner-up.

Speaking during an interview on an Arise TV programme on Tuesday, Chike recounted how he initially struggled to bridge the gap between expectations and reality after the show.

“Emotionally, it was stressful to have so much dreams. Like you (referring to the show’s host) said, when people come out of the reality show, there is pressure and it’s heart-wrenching when people see me and start asking ‘so what are you doing now?” Chike asked.

“I’ll be like, can’t you see, I’m into music. You’re the one not following up’. But I actually understood their point. I just knew I had to keep working. All I would say is that I’m grateful that I participated in The Voice Nigeria.”

Speaking further he said reality Tv shows are not an automatic ticket to fame.

“They (reality shows) give visibility…but is it really about you or the business? The business, to me, is to entertain Nigerians and I want to believe the greatest win any contestant could get was the visibility,” he said.

“And it could be the greatest setback for you too if you’re not able to do anything with it. After the reality show, it took me about three years plus to be able to get anything properly to sort myself. So, imagine everybody knows you because you appeared on TV, then all of a sudden, you’re nowhere again.

“So, I won’t say don’t go for a reality show but before you start, just know that nothing might happen when you’re done. Just know that nobody got your back when the show is over. Also, don’t expect or feel entitled.”
