Why actress Chioma Akpotha does not accept romantic roles

Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Umeh has disclosed that her colleague, Chioma Chukwuka Akpotha, does not accept romantic roles in movies.

The film star during a recent episode of the Where Is The Lie podcast attributed Chioma’s rejection of romantic roles to her Catholic upbringing.

“Chioma Chukwuka was brought up in a very Catholic home. She doesn’t accept kissing or romantic roles in movies. I’m saying this out of experience. She was a legionary. She has been a good girl,” Umeh remarked.

However, contrary to her claims, Chioma Chukwuka has played romantic roles in a number of Nollywood films, most recently in Seven Doors, where she kissed her co-star, Femi Adebayo.

Nollywood actress, Chioma bags USAID goodwill ambassador

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has named Nollywood actress, Chioma Akpotha, as its maiden ‘Goodwill Ambassador for Nutrition’ in Nigeria.

The partnership between Chioma and the agency is aimed at raising awareness about the critical issue of malnutrition, which affects millions of Nigerians, especially women and children, USAID stated on Thursday in Abuja.

It explained that the partnership would leverage Chioma’s genuine commitment to maternal, child health, nutrition, and influential platform, to inspire a nationwide movement towards better nutrition and health for Nigerians.

“Chioma embodies the essence of advocacy and activism. Her commitment to maternal health and child well-being is a calling.

“A calling to use her platform for the greater good, to amplify the voices of the voiceless, and to inspire action and change.

“We celebrate this partnership with Chioma Akpotha, which represents a milestone in our commitment to collaborate with the Nigerian people.

“Nutrition plays a vital role in the overall health and development of Nigeria, especially for its young population.

“By harnessing and leveraging its talent, Nigeria can continue to chart a course towards greater prosperity and progress,” USAID Mission Director, Melissa Jones, said.

She added that as the ‘Goodwill Ambassador for Nutrition’, Chioma had agreed to work to raise awareness about maternal health and child nutrition, promote healthy behaviors, and disseminate key nutritional messages.

According to her, malnutrition remains a significant challenge in Nigeria, with severe acute malnutrition impacting 3.6 million children.

She added that malnutrition also contributed to 50 per cent of all deaths among children under five years old.

“The prevalence of malnutrition among women, adolescents, and young children undermines community health and development.

“In collaboration with the Nigerian government and people, the U.S. government, through USAID, works to mitigate malnutrition.

“This is done by providing effective treatment for severe malnutrition, coordinating nutrition services, and promoting proven methods to support better nutrition, especially for mothers, infants, young children, and teenagers,” Jones said.

“I am honored to be USAID’s inaugural Goodwill Ambassador for Nutrition in Nigeria.

“Maternal and child health is a cause close to my heart, and I am committed to using my platform to raise awareness and inspire positive change.

Together with USAID, we can make a lasting impact on the lives of Nigerian families,” Chioma was quoted as saying.

USAID leads international development and humanitarian efforts to save lives, reduce poverty, strengthen democratic governance, and help nations progress beyond assistance.

It supports humanitarian assistance, health systems strengthening, transparent and accountable governance, basic education, and a more market-led, trade-friendly economy in Nigeria.

  • I miss everything about my mother- Chioma Akpotha

Sensational actress, Chioma Akpotha, took to her Instagram page on the 22nd of May 2019 to celebrate the life of her mother who died about five years ago.

Speaking in a chat with Punch, she said her mom died with 90 per cent of her secrets.

“It has been five years that my mother has died and till date, I still miss everything about her. Being the first daughter, she was my best friend but whenever I misbehaved, she hardly used a cane on me, instead, she would use her hand, slippers, pestle, among other things. She was left handed but I always forgot that aspect whenever she was beating me, so there were times that I would expect the slap on the right cheek and would have guarded the right side of my face only for the slap to land on the left side. I miss her a lot. My mother went to her grave with about 90 per cent of my secret and that is how close I was to my mother. She was practically my backbone.

Recalling how her late mom was helpful to her during the birth of her son, she said: “When I had my first son, my mother stayed with us for about a year. Although she had a restaurant at the time, she abandoned it to look after my child and would accompany me to the various movie sets I had to attend. She was running her business from the movie location. I miss everything about her. There is a saying that Igbo people have which states, ‘the day you lose your mother is the day you lose your God. Her death has thrown me into the open but I believe she is now an angel who watches over me from up above and she is fighting for me”.

I am not a snob; I am actually shy- Chioma Akpotha

Nollywood actress, Chioma Akpotha has disclosed reasons why people think she is a snob. Akpotha noted that she is aware that a lot of people think she has an attitude problem.

Speaking in a chat with Punch, she said: ”I am aware that people think I am a snob, but I am actually a shy person. My job demands that I should abandon who I am. It used to be even worse for me because I went to a single-sex school; so, relating to guys was difficult for me. However, I am adjusting now because of acting.”

The award winning role interpreter said she tries as much as possible to protect herself which gives people the impression that she is a snob.

“When you meet me newly, the first impression you get is that I am cold. But I am only trying to protect myself from people I don’t know. If I am in a room and I know everyone there, I will be very comfortable and playful. But if I don’t know anyone, I will be cold. I am not trying to blow my trumpet; I am just saying that I need to know you to be comfortable with you,” .
