    Chris Ngige: Fayose says Minister is his good friend

    Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has thanked President Muhammadu Buhari’s Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, for campaigning for his governorship candidate.

    TheNewsGuru reports the Minister of Labour and Employment got himself into a big mess on Tuesday at the All Progressives Congress (APC) mega rally held at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado Ekiti.

    Ngige, instead of campaigning for the APC party he represents, he faltered and campaigned for the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor Fayose instead, in the presence of his boss and the mammoth crowd present at the rally.

    Reacting to the development, Fayose called the Minister his good friend, and thanked him for campaigning for him, saying the Minister is not afraid to say the truth.

    “I thank my good friend, Dr Chris Ngige for campaigning for me at the APC rally in Ado Ekiti yesterday.

    “Dr. Ngige is a man who is not always afraid to say the truth and that’s what he demonstrated yesterday even in the presence of the President and other APC leaders,” he said.

    Ngige at the rally, turning to President Buhari, said, “Mr President, the leaders of our party, our people are ready, they are ready and on Saturday it will happen.

    “Especially those from the South west for the mistake they made in 2014, so they won’t make that mistake again”.

    “If you marry two wives, you go know which one wey better. Fayose is the better Wife, he dey cook, he dey give him husband better food, he no dey give am trouble, so you must bring back Fayose on Saturday,” he said to the amazement of the crowd.

    The Minister of Labour and Employment, Mr. Chris Ngige, got himself into a big mess on Tuesday at the All Progressives Congress (APC) mega rally held at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado Ekiti.

    TheNewsGuru reports that the Labour Minister found himself in the big mess after he faltered by campaigning for the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor Ayodele Fayose, instead of the APC he represents.

    Heavy security was on Tuesday mounted in every corner of Ado Ekiti, as President Muhammadu Buhari led top notches of the ruling APC to Ekiti for the Grand Finale of the party’s mega rally for Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

    At the rally, Ngige, either by commission or omission, praised the PDP and Governor Fayose in the presence of Buhari and the mammoth crowd that greeted the occasion.

    The Minister, who mostly spoke in Pidgin English, said “E go happen on Saturday. Those wey wan Saturday to happen raise your hands with your PVC and everything”.

    Turning to President Buhari, Ngige said, “Mr President, the leaders of our party, our people are ready, they are ready and on Saturday it will happen.

  • 2019: Ngige speaks on Buhari re-election, excited about APC hitch-free LG congress

    The Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen. Chris Ngige, has expressed optimism that President Muhammadu Buhari would be re-elected in the 2019 presidential election.

    Ngige spoke on Sunday at Ojoto, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra, while addressing newly elected local government officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the area.

    The minister said Buhari had done so well to merit re-election.

    “I stand before you today to say Mr President has done so well in all ramifications.

    “He will be returned by Nigerians in 2019 in a landslide victory,” he said.

    Ngige, who noted that the party would contest all elective positions in the general elections, urged party faithful to work hard to ensure that the APC scores not less than 70 per cent of the votes cast in the state.

    He commended the party members for ensuring a smooth and peaceful local government congress held in the 21 local government areas of the state on Saturday.

    “Contrary to what the prophets of doom had expected, the APC in the state had a hitch-free local government congress,” he said.

    The National Treasurer of APC, Chief George Moghalu, also commended the party for the peaceful conduct of the congress in the state.

    “I am very optimistic the same good conduct will be witnessed during the state congress,” Moghalu said.

    Other stakeholders that spoke at the event pledged to work in unity and harmony to ensure victory for the party in the 2019 general elections.

    Maritime Workers suspend strike

    The Maritime Workers Union (MWUN) on Tuesday suspended its strike as the Federal Government pledged to tackle all demands raised by the union.

    Sen. Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment made this known after a conciliatory meeting between the union and the Ministry of Transportation, Ministry Power, Works and the Management of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) in Abuja.

    The issues raised by the union includes the deplorable condition of roads leading to the ports, issues surrounding their concessioning and decongestion.

    Others are, poor sanitary condition in and around the ports as well as the need for palliative works on roads while the major construction is hastened.

    Ngige reassured the workers of the determination of the Federal Government to tackle all the issues raised by the union.

    “This is in order to enhance the ease of doing business and urgently arrest the situation where Nigerian ports constantly lose cargos to ports in the neighbouring countries, ‘’ he said.

    He said that the end of the conciliatory meeting the parties unanimously therefore resolved that the Special Committee on road decongestion to remove trucks/trailers on the road should be brought back.

    He said that the personnel undertaking it should also be strengthened.

    According to the minister, the collaborative efforts of Ministry of Transport through the NPA, FMWP&H, Dangote Limited and Flour Mills on the two (2) Klm Wharf road should be noted.

    “However, these efforts have not been very appreciable as only 10 per cent of the work has been done till date.

    “The meeting, therefore, called on the lead project company; Dangote to speed up action in terms of galvanizing human and material resources.

    “This is in order for them to see that they meet the timeline of the completion of the project in spite of unforeseen challenges,‘’ he said.

    Ngige also said that the Federal Government would pursue vigorously the policy of non- establishment of new Tank Farms in the Port areas.

    He said that the collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Transport and the Concessionaires at the Ports in terms of movement of Containers by rail should be strengthened.

    He said this would ensure that there was no pillage of Trailers on access road to the Port.

    The minister also said that the establishment of 340 (three hundred and forty ) capacity Trailer Park by the FMPW&H was a step in the right direction and noteworthy.

    He said the meeting also appealed that the final stage of the Shore line Protection work be completed before the end of the second quarter of 2018.

    “The meeting also resolved that a total reconstruction of the major access roads to Tin-Can Port area from Liverpool road via Coconut via Sunrise to Mile2 road should be undertaken urgently and in this direction.

    “The Ministry of Transport through the NPA are to synergise and consummate the project before the end of the Second quarter of 2018.

    “The FMPW&H which has already captured the road to Tin-Can Port in its 2018 Budget should also do the same for roads leading to other Ports Nationwide,” he said.

    The minister added that the sanitary conditions of the surrounding and roads to the Ports should be the Social Corporate Responsibility (CSR) of the NPA and the Authority.

    Ngige said the NPA should do the needful to remove the refuse within three months to avoid endangering the lives of workers and Port users.

    He noted that the source of funding for the Seven km road from Liverpool to Mile2 should be from Consolidated Revenue Fund (CRF), while the FMPW&H should provide technical expertise.

    “In view of this conciliation meeting, the MWUN hereby suspends its intended strike action,” he said.

     

  • Non-Academic Staff Unions of Universities suspend warning strike

    The Non-academic staff unions of Nigerian universities on Thursday in Abuja suspended its 5-day warning strike.

    The unions are the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), Non–Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU).

    The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the unions announced the suspension in a communiqué.

    The communiqué was jointly signed by Mr. Sani Suleiman, President (NAAT), Mr. Solomon Alfa, Vice-President (SSANU), Mr. Peters Adeyemi, General Secretary (NASU).

    Others are: Dr. Jamila Suara, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education and Permanent Secretary in Labour and Employment Ministry, Mr. Clement Illoh.

    The Deputy General Secretary of SSANU, Mr Festus Ajayi, read the communiqué to newsmen at the end of the meeting with the Federal Government.

    “The meeting urged the members of JAC to suspend its ongoing warning strike.

    “JAC agreed to suspend the strike with effect from Friday, Jan. 20.

    “After due consideration by the leadership of JAC, they agreed to convey the outcome of the meeting to their respective congresses to suspend the strike”, he said.

    The communiqué stated that on the issue of Earned Allowance that any arrangement by government in this regards should involve all workers and employees in the university system.

    It also stated that on the judgement of the National Industrial Court (NIC) on staff schools in the universities, there was urgent need to put the university system on notice to avoid further termination of teachers’ appointment.

    The communiqué noted that a committee will be inaugurated by next week to look into the issue of corruption in some of the universities.

    Ajayi urged the Federal Government to ensure that they do not renege on the 2009 agreement as reaffirmed in the just concluded meeting.

    Illoh, who represented the Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen. Chris Ngige, commended the unions for their understanding.

    It is recall that the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the unions had declared a five – day warning strike effective from Jan. 16.
