Chrisland: Mother denies knowledge of late student’s chats about fainting

The mother of a late student of Chrisland Schools, Opebi, Ikeja, continued her evidence on Thursday with denial of knowledge of any chats in which her late daughter said she fainted a few days to her death.

Mrs Blessing Adeniran was cross-examined by defence counsel at the resumed trial of the school and four others for involuntary manslaughter.

The Lagos State Government, on March 31, 2023, charged Chrisland Schools, its principal and vice principal and two others with the killing of the student.

The 12-year-old student was allegedly electrocuted on Feb. 9, 2023, during the school’s inter-house sports at the Agege Stadium, Lagos State.

Those charged alongside the school are Ademoye Adewale (a cotton candy vendor), Kuku Fatai, Belinda Amao (Principal) and Victoria Nwatu.

The defendants are facing trial  before Justice Oyindamola Ogala of the Ikeja High Court.

Adeniran  told the court on Thursday that she was not aware of any chats in which  her daughter told her schoolmate  that she ‘fainted in her sleep’ on Feb. 2, 2023.

She was cross-examined by Mr Olukayode Enitan (SAN).

Adeniran testified that her late daughter’s absence from school on the said day  was rather due to backaches and waist pain traced to her menstrual period.

The judge adjourned the case to Jan. 26 for  continuation of cross-examination of the witness.

Adeniran started giving evidence on Wednesday.

She was led by Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions,  Dr Babajide Martins, who asked her how she got to know that her daughter fell.

Martins also asked her what actions she took.

The witness told the court that she went to the stadium and did not see her daughter participating in any of the sports.

She said that she consequently got worried and began to search for her, adding that the search led her to Agege Central Hospital and Diagnostics Ltd. where she found her lifeless body.

“The file was subsequently forwarded to the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) office on March 20 for review of the duplicate case file.

“On March 23, the DPP issued his legal advice and came to the conclusion that a prima facie case of involuntary manslaughter and reckless and negligent acts had been established against the school.”

  • “We are remorseful and sorry about the death of Whitney” -Chrisland School finally tenders apology

“We are remorseful and sorry about the death of Whitney” -Chrisland School finally tenders apology

The management of Chrisland schools has finally tendered an apology over the death of one of its students, Whitney Adeniran.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that Whitney, a student of Chrisland International High School, Opebi, Ikeja, Lagos passed away during the school’s inter-house sports competition

According to the 12-year-old girl’s father, Dr. Michael Adeyemi Adeniran, the child passed away at Agege Stadium on Thursday, 9th February 2023.

In a now-deleted post, the school said they are remorseful and sorry about the death of Whitney to her parents, the community that hosts them and the nation at large. They also extended their apology to the Nigerian Mass Media if they have sent unbearably quiet signals to them.

Explaining why the school has been quiet about the death of Whiteny, the management said the student’s death was shocking and they decide to honour the privacy of her family to mourn her loss.

Chrisland School post reads: ‘WE ARE SORRY’.

“We are deeply saddened and sorry about Whitney’s death. We are remorseful and sorry to Whitney’s parents. We are sorry to our parents and the entire community that hosts our school. We are also very sorry to the nation at large. It was a huge loss to the school.

“We express an equal measure of apology to the Nigeria Media, another critical stakeholder, in case we have sent unbearably quiet signals. We have been quiet because this death was so shocking, we opted more for introspection and moral rectitude rather than strutting around the Media space to seize narratives. Moreso, we considered it imperative to allow the parents and indeed the entire Adeniran family the honour of their privacy as we all mourn this unfortunate loss. Whitney Adeniran was a bright and lovely student. She was popular and friendly. Her memory lives with us.

“We hereby vehemently refute the claim making the rounds that Chrisland School intends to exhume Whitney’s body. We have no such plan and assure the public that we are also parents in mourning and will not do or subscribe to anything that paints such insensitive optics that prevents our dear daughter from resting. We assure you all that no such thing will happen. Rather than do this, plans are underway to immortalize Whitney’s name so she can remain indelible in our consciousness. This is without prejudice to the ongoing Coroner inquest but it is an honour we owe her.”

“Responding to every sensation or misinformation peddled, therefore, does not serve this purpose and we, therefore, continue to uphold restraint. Unfortunately, this quiet is coming with regrettable, misconstrued conclusions. Nonetheless, Chrisland Schools will continue to cooperate with the authorities throughout the duration of the investigations, and also offer the parents every necessary support in this grieving period.

"We are remorseful and sorry about the death of Whitney" -Chrisland School finally tenders apology

“In the meantime, we have continued to engage the Adenirans. We are not relenting, because she is our daughter too and we shall always be there with the family to navigate this dark period. To all those who have stood truly by us and the Adenirans at this trying moment, we convey our sincere gratitude.”

The school however took down the post on its Instagram page after the deceased student’s mother, Mrs Blessing Adeniran said that the school never loved Whitney because they still went ahead with the inter-house sports competition the day she passed away.

“My wife was at the venue even before the event started. She was never informed or called until they have conveyed our child out of the venue before they informed her. On arrival of my wife at the health center where they took my daughter. my daughter was lying dead with her lips black and her tongue black.

“My wife called me urgently, I left my office to the place and found my 12year old daughter lying dead on the ground. I asked questions about what happened to my daughter and the school authority could not get me any information as to what happened to my child in their care.

“I gave Chrisland school a healthy vibrant young girl what Chrisland returned to me is a dead child. My entire family is in deep sorrow but the school Authority claimed they know nothing about my daughter’s death and all they know is that my daughter slumped and died.”

Adeniran further said the school had no ambulance or paramedics at the event, except for a nurse he described as a “quack,” who he said later confessed that the child died at the stadium

If you are a father you will understand my pain. My daughter is highly loved by us. We cherished her existence and we can never allow an institution to gloss over the death of our daughter.

“Since we started asking this question. The school has been asking us to back down from the autopsy and I know they know their way into the system. I am calling on the pathology department of @lasuth to please be honest with their result. Lagos State government, Nigerian Government, please intervene.”

  • S3X SCANDAL: 10yrs girl of Chrisland Schools apologizes to public, netizens

S3X SCANDAL: 10yrs girl of Chrisland Schools apologizes to public, netizens

The 10-year-old girl of Chrisland Schools, whose erotic video with a male colleague during a trip to Dubai, that surfaced online recently, has apologized to the public and netizens.

In her post on Sunday, on Likee App, she stated: “I made a mistake, now I’m living with the consequences. I regret it, I really do. And I’m sorry.”

The pupil informed her followers on Likee that she would be going off from social media platform soon, to enable her fully recover from “this m*s”.

According to her posts: “We should not regret mistakes, we must learn from them.

“Don’t let your past dictate who you are, but let it be a lesson that strenghtens the person you’ll become.”

Recall that pupils from the private school were in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), to participate in the World School Games between March 10 and 13, 2022.

Also, the mother of the pupil had come online to seek the help of Nigerians as she alleged that a pregnancy test was conducted on her daughter.

She said she was not aware of what happened in Dubai till another parent showed her the video of the incident.

However, in a statement released by Akin Fadeyi, a member of the Advisory board of the school, the school authorities denied claims that it conducted a pregnancy test on the girl.

According to the school, only a COVID-19 test was conducted on all the students who embarked on the trip to Dubai.

The school also said out of the 77 students who represented the school at the event, only six were involved in the misconduct.

It said they were involved in a Truth or Dare game which led to the condemnable act.

Also, reacting to allegations of negligence on their part, the school said while in Dubai, it ensured the students were kept in separate rooms, seven floors apart.

It said boys were on the 4th floor of the hotel while the girls were lodged on the 11th floor.

The school said none of the students on its watch was raped.

It mentioned some centres where the COVID-19 tests were carried out on the students and asked people to confirm their claims.

The statement reads: “We have followed up on reports making the rounds on certain developments bordering on the morals and ethics of some of the students under our care, who represented the school at the World School games, Dubai between 8 and 14 of March 2022.

“While we understand the emotions this has generated, we assure the public that our first approach as an institution was to assume parental roles by offering support to those involved and ensuring that nothing affected their senses of esteem.

“However, after a comprehensive evaluation of the situation, we cannot help but express how scandalised and distressed we feel as mothers, fathers and instructors with a relationship that holds a direct bearing on the development of those involved.

“Nonetheless, we took a critical view of the number of students who partook in this recent trip and who did the school proud in our quest to expand the horizons of our students holistically through global exposure, which takes into account a wholesome development of the mind, body and spirit through sporting engagements.

“Of the 76 children who represented Chrisland, 71 ensured adherence to our standards, abiding with laid down regulations and code of conduct, while doing us very proud in the process. Within these 71, we kept our girls on the 11th floor and boys on the 4th floor to draw clear lines that respect moral boundaries.

“We were, however, compelled to engage with the parents of the remaining students who unfortunately got themselves involved in misconduct, and in accordance with our code of conduct processes, which are well known to the parents, we meted out measured reprimands to them to instil a sense of discipline and as deterrence to others. This was also to caution our students on the need to remain on the path of resisting wrong influences.

“We are proud to reassure our stakeholders that no rape of anyone or the administration of a pregnancy test on any child took place on our watch.

”For emphasis, only a COVID post-travel test was conducted on the returning delegation of our students, in compliance with COVID-19 travel protocols, at the Life Centre Medical Services on March 21, 2022, at School Hall, Opebi.

”This was through the nose swab test as consistent with COVID-19 health protocols. We trust that this can be verified at the source provided. To insinuate that a pregnancy test was carried out on a student, for whatever reason, therefore, is a highly unfortunate conjecture.

“Nevertheless, our processes would be readily opened up for the scrutiny of regulators and stakeholders at the earliest indication of this, to enable the course of scientific or forensic inspections. We are certain this will lay to rest any shred of doubt or hazy optic that the present flurry of activities might have occasioned.”

Immoral Act: NAPPS faults Lagos state for closure of Chrisland schools

The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) has questioned the shutdown of all Chrisland Schools in Lagos state over the sex video by some of the students of the college.

The management of Chrisland schools already sanctioned five of its students over the act.

Recall that the students engaged in the immoral act during a trip to Dubai in March 2022, when they went to partake in the World School Games.

Following the controversies that surrounded the incident, the Lagos State Government ordered an indefinite shutdown of all branches of Chrisland Schools in the state.

The government also warned against sharing of a sex tape involving minors, saying whoever shares such a video risks 15-year jail term.

The national President, Chief Yomi Otubela through a statement released on Thursday, question the government’s shutdown of all Chrisland schools.

The statement reads “While we are in support of the swift move by the Lagos state government to investigate the issue, we view with concern the recent announcement of the state government to shut down all branches of Chrisland Schools in the state over the said sex video.

“We feel shutting down all the branches of the school might deny other children their rights to learn more and for those in the terminal classes the right to continue thier preparation for their final examinations.

“Equally of concern is the fact that the parents , as observed above , are not always available for the upkeep of this children. So we are disturbed about what become of this children for the period of the closure .

“However, we support that Lagos State Monitoring and Supervisory committee be introduced among Chrisland Schools Management team pending the conclusion of the investigation.

“We await the outcome of the government investigation on the alleged gross negligence on the part of Chrisland Schools to allow students of such age bracket sleep alone without the presence of a teacher of same sex, as well as the allegations of the school poor communication, the delayed for over a month after the incident before calling the attention of the minor’s parents to the exact issue. This will help us take informed decisions.

“We recommend that the children involved should be taken to experts in mental health for adequate intervention and rehabilitation,” the statement read in part.

NAPPS posited that the parents should take the larger portion of blame for children’s immoral act.

Chrisland: Table Tennis star Funke Oshonaike speaks on parenting

Nigerian table tennis star and Olympian Funke Oshonaike has lambasted Nigerians for criticizing the mother of the 10 year-old female student of Chrisland schools involved in video sex in Dubai.

Nigerians had bashed the girl’s mother for coming out public to blame the school over the now viral sex video

Recall that the girl’s mother had made a video where she blamed the School authority of playing hide and seek with the incident. She accused the school of taking her daughter for pregnancy test without her consent. She said her blood sample was taken under the pretense that they were conducting COVID -19 test.

Lending her voice on the matter , Oshonaike urged the public to stop being judgmental, adding that parenting is no easy task.

“Yes, I gave my kids their phones at the age of 10! I leave them with babysitters or with some close friends to help me check on them anytime I go to competitions to represent my country.

“I don’t beat my kids and I will fight you if you dare. I am not a perfect mother but I am proud of myself and my mistakes because nobody is perfect.

“For those of you perfect parents, especially you that have no kids yet or yours are still babies, well-done for criticising and judging other parents.

“Parenting nowadays is not Moinmoin. You can do your best to train your kids but you might still fail at last! So it takes the grace of God.

“To all of you that have been calling the mother of the 10-year-old girl bad names, remember you’re not perfect too.

“Do you know what the people you’re leaving your kids with are teaching them? Do you as a parent give your children enough time?

“Stop being judgmental and learn from people’s mistakes. The last time I checked, children of pastors and imams are not always good children. Will you say then that it’s bad parenting?

“You might be abusing another parent right now but remember that your own report card is coming out soon! Until then, stop the bullying.

“Stop being abusive and judgmental. let’s bring out solutions and help people with problems. He who has no sin should cast the first stone.

“My heart goes to the 11-year-old girl and her parents. May God help you out and may you find peace. #stopbeingjudgemental #stoptheabuse #help,” she wrote on Facebook
