  • Anambra remains APGA state – Gov Soludo

Anambra remains APGA state – Gov Soludo

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has said the State belongs to the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).

Soludo, who spoke through Mr Christian Aburime, his Press Secretary, said this while reacting to a comment attributable to Chief Basil Ejidike that APGA would go extinct by 2025.

Aburime, who said APC did not exist in Anambra, insisted that the State would forever remain an APGA-controlled state because the people had come to accept it as their own political movement.

He said Soludo had turned the entire state into a construction site in two years, adding that only the blind would say they are not seeing the transformation taking place.

“The APC-led federal government, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a known democrat and lover of democracy, will not like to interfere with elections in other states,” Abirime said in a statement.

“APC members in Anambra know that the party does not exist in this state and it will never exist because this is an APGA land.

“Going by what the APC chairman in Anambra has been saying, it’s like he is not part of the people living in Anambra State. He keeps saying that Soludo has done nothing; maybe he must have been going around blindfolded.

“There are roads and other infrastructures for him to see. There are so many things Soludo is doing and every normal human being is seeing them. Something must be wrong somewhere,” he said.

Aburime said Soludo was far ahead of some perennial constants that APC had presented for election and that when the die was cast, the governor’s works would speak vigorously for him.

He described Soludo as a governor for the poor and his free education policies, free antenatal and delivery services and gifts for nursing mothers were giving his governance a human face.

According to him, Soludo is not a politician but a statesman. So you can not compare politicians with no ideology to Soludo who is a statesman and has his own philosophy and ideology he is pursuing.

“Soludo is the only governor that has shown so much empathy and compassion for the downtrodden,” he said.

The Vice President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene, has eulogised Gov. Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra for renaming the Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport, Umueri, after the late literary icon, Prof. Chinua Achebe.

Okeke-Ogene said in a press statement in Awka on Saturday, that the gesture was an honour to Ndigbo, Africa and the entire black race.

He called on other South-East Governors to build monuments to immortalise the late literary icon who spent his entire life projecting Igbo social cultural identity across the globe.

Okeke-Ogene noted that through his creative works, late Achebe sustained the fight and outcry against “marginalisation, injustice and suppression of Ndigbo”.

He also stood for Africa and the black race in general as well as made huge sacrifices to give Igbos a strong voice and recognition across the globe.

He also recalled that in his humility, Achebe died in active service as the President General of Ogidi Town Union, in Idemili North Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra.

Okeke-Ogene said Achebe’s literary achievements celebrated Igbo rich cultural heritage and tradition that will continue to inspire present and future generations as well as help preserve Igbo cultural identity.

He noted that the honour will equally remain a source of inspiration to young writers who will now be encouraged to explore opportunities in the creative world to attain their full potential.

The Ohaneze VP said the recognition has positive implication on young writers knowing fully well that history and posterity will remember, recognise and honour them in future.

Okeke-Ogene expressed satisfaction that Soludo has sustained efforts towards human capital development and projects that impact directly on the lives of the people.

He noted that his free education scheme would provide every child easy access to quality education to build a strong and quality human capital development as was obtained during the early years of Achebe.

“The free education of Anambra government is commendable because it will motivate upcoming generations to discover themselves and aspire to emulate successful scholar personalities in the state and beyond.

Soludo announces free, compulsory education in Anambra

Gov. Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra has announced free and compulsory education from nursery to Junior Secondary School (JSS 3) in public schools in the State.

Soludo announced the policy at Premier Primary School, Obosi, Idemili North Council Area, on Thursday.

He said that his administration was passionate about actualising all-inclusive education.

He stressed that no child within the school age; from nursery to JSS 3, should be charged school fees or any other fees to acquire education in the state.

“The aim is to go back to the basic when education was used as the equalizer, such that children from poor and rich backgrounds will attend the same school and compete favourably.

“Children of school age will no longer be deprived of access to quality education. Education from nursery to JSS is free and compulsory in the state.

“This will increase the access of children to basic education and to ensure the fullest development of personality, talents, mental and physical abilities of our children.

“We will not look kindly on anyone who fails to comply with the above pronouncement,” he said.

The governor further said that massive infrastructure development would start in all government-owned schools in the coming weeks.

  • Gov Soludo make vow against attackers of US embassy staff convoy

Gov Soludo make vow against attackers of US embassy staff convoy

Gov. Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra has expressed sadness over the attack on United States embassy staff and Policemen in the state.

Soludo, in a statement signed by Mr Christian Aburime, his Press Secretary, described the attack as heinous and unprovoked.

Recall that US Embassy convoy were attacked on Atani-Osamala Road, Ogbaru Local Government Area, leaving two Staff and policemen killed by yet-to-be identified assailants on May 16.

Soludo said his administration had in the last one year worked very hard with gallant security forces to massively degrade criminality and restore law and order and could proudly assert that Anambra was currently one of the safest states in Nigeria.

He said the US embassy convoy incident in a remote Riverine community in Ogbaru local government was a reminder that patches of these criminal gangs could still unleash senseless and murderous acts.

He vowed that the Anambra government would actively work with security agencies to smoke out the criminals and bring them to justice.

“Only two weeks ago, the dreaded and notorious criminal gang leader, operating mostly in a neighboring state, was gunned down with four of his team members when they made incursions into Anambra and recovered huge deadly weapons.

“The criminals are largely on the run or feeling the heat of our zero tolerance to criminality.

“We call on anyone with information on the identity or whereabouts of the criminals to offer the same on our secured security phone numbers or to any of the security agencies and such informants will be handsomely rewarded.

“We assure our residents and visitors of our continued commitment to law and order. This incident has emboldened our drive,” it said.

Soludo said it was evident the visiting team made their own security arrangements and totally bypassed the existing security architecture in the state and the state government was not aware of the “humanitarian mission” of the visiting team.

According to him, in a place like parts of Ogbaru where security forces have been fighting the criminals and oil bunkerers, the sight of few policemen can indeed attract vengeance from the criminal gangs.

“The Government of Anambra once again, expressed its deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims and reassure the United States Embassy in Nigeria of our unwavering commitment to the safety and security of its officials in the state,” it said.
