    BREAKING: Sanwo-Olu orders civil servants from grade 1-12 to resume Monday

    The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the resumption of all civil servants on salary grade one to 12.

    This was contained in a circular by the by the Head of Service, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, on Saturday.

    In the circular with Ref. No: CIR/HOS/20/Vol.1/115, the civil servants were asked to resume on Monday, November 2, 2020.

    TheNewsGuru.com, TNG, reports that civil servants on grade level 12 and below had been asked to work from home since March in a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

    The circular read, “Sequel to the informed recommendation of the Presidential task Force (PTF) on Covid-19 and the state ministry of health advisory on same, it is hereby notified for general information that Mr. Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved that all public servants on salary grade 1-12 who were directed to work from home since March 2020 resume at the office with effect from Monday, 2nd November, 2020.

    “Furthermore, in order to ensure physical distancing in respective MDAs, accounting officers are to maintain attendance duty roster and ensure strict compliance with COVID-19 protocols in the workplace”.

    Civil servants are most corrupt in Nigeria- Nollywood actor

    Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Emeka Amakeze has said civil servants are the most corrupt set of people in Nigeria.

    In a post on his Twitter page on Sunday, the movie star said the perception that politicians are the ones who majorly indulge in corrupt practices.

    Amakeze also noted that politicians’ involvement in corrupt practices is usually easily noticed by the people because of their flashy lifestyles.

    “Politicians may take the shine because of their flamboyant lifestyles but nobody beats civil servants in the race for title of the most corrupt,” he wrote.

    Amakeze’s comment however, may not be unconnected to the recent happenings in the country triggered by the #EndSARS protest.

    The #EndSARS protest started as a campaign against misconducts of the now-disbanded special anti-robbery squad (SARS) and expanded focus to overall police reform.

    Amid the protest, some Nigerians also called for a comprehensive improvement in the country by highlighting several demands including a reduction in the cost of governance.

    The Federal Government on Thursday ordered all Federal Civil Servants to resume work on Monday, October 19, 2020.

    Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Boss Mustapha and the National Coordinator, Presidential Task Force, PTF, on COVID-19. disclosed this during a briefing of the PTF in Abuja.

    Before now only civil servants on grade level 12 and above were reporting for work.

    But the PTF on Thursday said civil servants below level 12 could resume work on Monday.

    The Ondo State Government has confirmed promoting 31,086 workers since 2017 to date.

    It said 7,346 workers were promoted in this year’s promotion exercise.

    Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Mr. Afolabi Adewakun, who stated these at a briefing in Akure, said 130 officers across various cadres in the civil service retired between January and September this year.

    Adewakun explained 6,644 were promoted in the mainstream civil service while 24,442 were promoted in the boards, parastatal, and agencies of the government under the years reviewed.

    He said the welfare of workers has been at the heart of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s administration.

    The chairman stated that disciplinary cases ranging from financial misconduct and dereliction of duty were looked into by the commission while necessary and appropriate sanctions were meted to erring officers.

    He noted 1,292 workers in the state’s main civil service were promoted in 2020 coupled with 6,054 workers being promoted in another government parastatal.

    “This, the grand total of officers promoted in 2020 is 7,346 across the state public service.

    “All eligible officers have received their letters,” he said.

    “There has been prompt payment of workers’ salary and other emoluments and that training and retraining programmes have engendered higher productivity.

    “This has led to better service delivery in the civil service. It is noteworthy that the present administration had shown great sensitivity and empathy to all sectors of the state.

    “This is evident in Mr. Governor’s recent approval for the employment of 23 physically challenged people into the state civil service among many others into different cadres,” he stated.

    He admonished the newly promoted officers to reciprocate the government’s gesture through dedication, more productivity, diligence, and unalloyed loyalty in carrying out their responsibilities.

    Dr Folasade Yemi-Esan, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation ( HOCSF) has directed civil servants from level 12 and above, essential duty officers to be at work on Monday.

    She who gave the directive in a circular issued on Friday in Abuja.

    According to her, the government was engaging with the union officials over the planned industrial action.

    The Federal Government had scheduled talks with labour unions for Monday 28 September.

    And on Friday, the government also secured a second order from the National Industrial Court, stopping the strike.

    Yemi Esan’s circular only reflected the first court order.

    The circular reads in part; “Sequel to the Labour Unions for workers to embark on industrial action from Monday Sept. 28.

    “The HOCSF wishes to inform all public servants that the Federal Government team is currently engaging with the labour unions to resolving all contentious issues and avert the planned industrial actions,” she said.

    According to her, there is a court injunction granted by the National Industrial Court (suit no. NICN/ABJ/253/2020) on Sept. 24.

    The court oder, HOCSF explained had restrained the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria from embarking on industrial action pending hearing and determination of motion on notice.

    “Accordingly, all officers on grade level 12 and above and those on essential services are hereby strongly advised to be at work to perform their official duties.

    “Permanent Secretaries and Chief Executive Officers are therefore, enjoined to bring the contents of this circular to the attention of all concerned and ensure strict compliance, ” HOCSF advised.

    The Federal Government has directed civil servants on Grade Levels 12 and 13 as well as those on essential duties to resume full duties.
    Dr Folashade Yemi-Esan, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, gave the directive in a circular on Monday in Abuja.
    Currently, only workers on Grade Level 14 and above go to offices, and work for just three days in a week, as part of measures to curtail the spread of COVID-19.
    Yemi-Esan, in the circular, said that workers affected would resume work from Monday to Friday, and be in office from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. as usual.
    The new development follows a directive by the Presidential Taskforce (PTF) on COVID-19, urging workers to resume full working hours and days.
    The PTF had, however, said that consideration must be given to the health implication of the number to recall for duties, in the light of the extant guidelines on the measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
    Yemi-Esan asked Chief Executive Officers to ensure full compliance with the directives on the COVID-19 pandemic preventive measures, including physical distancing, regular washing and/or sanitising of hands and wearing of facemasks.
    She said that efforts should be made to avoid overcrowding in individual offices.
    Yemi-Esan said that where the number of staff resuming work was large, Permanent Secretaries and Chief Executive Officers should consider the option of duty rosters.

    The Nigerian Government, on Thursday, approved new working hours for civil servants across the country.

    The federal civil servants on Grade Level 12 and above would now resume full work hours from 8 am to 4 pm, while the rest were to continue to stay at home.

    The Coordinator of Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Dr Sani Aliyu, said this on Thursday while speaking on the new changes in the extended phase two of eased lockdown.

    President Muhammadu Buhari reportedly approved the retention of the current phase of National response to COVID-19 for another four weeks with modifications.

    “Maintaining the restrictions on mass gatherings with specific emphasis on protecting vulnerable populations.

    “For government offices and other corporate offices: We are now extending working hours to normal official hours from Monday to Friday with the mandatory use of non-medical face masks.

    “We encourage work-at-home policy for civil/public servants below the grade level of 12.

    “Essential staff of grade level 12 and above may be allowed to come to work.

    “Our previous cut off was grade level 14. Temperature checks will be carried out in all official government buildings.

    “For personalized services: We continue to allow personalized services such as mechanics, artisans, air saloons, etc. who own their own workshops with work stations and can clearly adhere to non-pharmaceutical interventions.”

    Just in: FG orders civil servants to undergo Covid-19 tests

    The federal government has directed civil servants to undergo COVID-19 tests.

    According to a circular issued by Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare Officer, Evelyn Ngige, civil servants are to undergo the test at THISDAY Dome in Abuja.

    The circular reads: “I am directed to inform you that the Federal Government has provided facilities for the conduct of COVID 19 tests for civil servants at the Thisday Dome, Mohammed Kur Avenue, by Nanet Suites, Central Business District, Abuja (from 10.00 am to 4.00pm daily), as part of efforts to curtail the spread of the disease,” the circular read.

    “Accordingly, you are required to notify all staff of the availability of the testing facility, to enable members of staff who experience COVID-19 related symptoms and those wishing to get tested in your MDAs to take advantage of this opportunity.

    “The Office of the Head of the Clvil Service of the Federation has also updated the “Guidelines on the Control of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) Service-Wide” to address emerging issues in the control of the disease in the work environment. The Guidelines can be accessed on the website of the omce of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (www.ohcsf.gov.ng).

    “All Permanent Secretaries are requested to klndly bring the contents of this Circular to the attention of all staff, and ensure that all Parastatals and Agencies under their supervision are notified.”

    Civil servants resume duties in Ekiti as Fayemi eases COVID-19 lockdown

    Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi has relaxed the state’s lockdown to allow residents to pursue their businesses from Mondays through Fridays from 6am to 8pm.

    Fayemi, who stated this in a broadcast yesterday evening, added that public officers on Grade Level 8 and above are to resume for duty. Those on Grade Level 7 and below are to remain at home till further notice.

    The governor stated that the new directives take effect from today, adding that consultations are underway to reopen religious worship centres, schools and big markets in the state.

    He also stressed that the dusk-to-dawn curfew will resume daily at 8pm and will last till 5.59 am of the following morning.

    The governor also announced that the state’s molecular laboratory will be commissioned today to facilitate testing for covid-19.

    Coronavirus: Kogi orders civil servants to work from home

    Following the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic, the Kogi State Government has decided to excuse civil servants from work and keep them at home from Monday, as a preventive measure to curb the spread of the deadly virus.

    Kingsley Fanwo, the State Commissioner for Information and Communication made this known in a statement on Sunday.

    Fanwo said those who render critical services would be communicated through the Office of the Head of Service of the State on how to keep the system running without endangering the workers, despite the inevitable decision of government.

    “Civil servants from GL 1 to 13 are directed to stay off workplaces for 14 days which is subject to review after the first week starting from Monday, 23rd March, 2020.

    “Only workers from GL 1 to 13 are affected by the directive to stay at home while GL 14 and above are to report at their Offices. Those rendering essential services are to continue to go to their workplaces as they are not affected by the “Work from Home” directive.

    “The Kogi State Government is leaving no stone unturned to ensure the virus doesn’t find its way to the state and in the unfortunate scenario it does, Government is prepared to control and manage the cases.

    “No case of the virus has been reported in Kogi State yet and it is hoped that Government’s efforts at staving the virus off the State will prove productive.

    “We urge Kogites to ensure adherence to health instructions from the State Ministry of Health on how to prevent the disease as well as ensure personal hygiene,” Fanwo said.
