    Ex-Super Eagles coach, Peseiro, wife spotted at Real Madrid

    Former  Super Eagles, head coach,  Jose Peseiro, was spotted at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night.

    Peseiro was at the stadium to watch Real Madrid take on RB Leipzig, in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 second leg.

    The Portuguese gaffer was accompanied to the Santiago Bernabeu by his wife.

    Recall that Peseiro’s contract with the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, elapsed on February 29.

    On March 1, the 64-year-old posted what appeared to be his farewell message.

    He also noted that he will be taking time to recuperate from the stress of football management, before making a decision on his next job.

    Algeria Federation ignores Jose Peseiro, appoints Petkovic as head coach

    Out of Contract Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro has lost out in the race to become the head coach of the desert foxes of Algeria.

    On Thursday, the Algeria Football Federation announced the appointment of Bosnian Vladimir Petkovic as head coach of the Desert Warriors.

    Recall that  Jose Peseiro, was reportedly considered for the role.

    The North Africans have, however, settled for Petkovic.

    Petkovic, according to information on the official website of the Algeria Football Federation, will arrive Algiers on Sunday to finalise his contract.

    The 60-year-old will be unveiled during a press conference next week Monday.

    Algeria parted ways with former head coach, Djamel Belmadi, last month following the Desert Warriors early elimination from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.

    The two-time champions failed to make it beyond the group stage of the competition.

    AFCON 2023: Jose Mourinho tips Super Eagles to win trophy

    Portuguese gaffer, Jose Mourinho has backed Nigeria’s Super Eagles to defeat the Elephants of Ivory Coast in today’s 2023 AFCON  final.

    Mourinho, made this known while speaking on Rio Ferdinand’s podcast, said the head coach of the Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro, is his best friend in football.

    The ex-Roma and Manchester United coach believes that Peseiro would become the first Portuguese coach to win the AFCON.

    He said “My best friend in football is in the final (AFCON).

    “The Nigerian coach is my best friend. He grew up with me; we studied together. We went to university on the same day, and we spent five years together every day.

    “We left at the same time; he is probably my best friend in football, and for him, a big opportunity to make history, because never before has a Portuguese coach won the AFCON,” Mourinho said.

    Nigeria will face Cote d’Ivoire in the AFCON final on Sunday night at the Alhassan Quattara stadium, Ebimpe, Abidjan.

    AFCON 2023: How I handle criticisms – Jose Peseiro

    Jose Peseiro, the Super Eagles Coach  has hit out at critics ahead of today’s clash with the Palangras Negras of Angola.

    Recall that Peseiro had received criticism from fans and pundits in recent months over Super Eagles unimpressive performances.

    Some even suggested prior to the 2023 AFCON tournament that the Nigeria Football Federation, (NFF) should not renew his contract with the Super Eagles.

    However, when asked how he is handling criticism, Peseiro told reporters at his pre-match press conference on Thursday ahead of Nigeria’s clash with Angola: “I am 63; maybe 20 years ago, it will affect me.

    “I have taken enough vaccine against criticism.”

    Criticism doesn’t get to me anymore. What i try to do is stay determined and focus on the job.

    Peseiro will lead the Super Eagles to slug it out with Angola on Friday, February 2nd  for a placement in the semi-final of the ongoing AFCON 2023.

    AFCON 2023: Jose Peseiro reveals Super Eagles players on injury list

    Super Eagles Head Coach, Jose Peseiro has confirmed that Alhassan Yusuf will not play in their final group fixture at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on Monday.

    Yusuf has not featured for Nigeria since he was injured during the 1-1 draw with Equatorial Guinea.

    Since then, the Royal Antwerp midfielder, has been nursing an injury but hopes to recover fully for Super Eagles second round game.

    According to Peseiro, Yusuf will not be part of Super Eagles last match against Guinea Bissau on Monday.

    “Yusuf didn’t train yesterday and he won’t be available for Guinea-Bissau,” Peseiro said.

    The Eagles need to secure three maximum points to finish as the group A leaders.

    AFCON 2023: Jose Peseiro to try out new formation against Guinea Bissau

    Reports coming out from the camp of the Super Eagles of Nigeria is that head coach Jose Peseiro is planning to use another formation in his side’s final group game against Guinea-Bissau on Monday, January 22nd.

    Recall that Peseiro  started with 3-4-3 formation in the side’s last game against hosts Cote d’Ivoire.

    The formation worked out as the three-time champions stifled the Elephants and recorded a 1-0 victory.

    However, it’s now learned that he will adopt a flexible formation (4-3-3) against the Djurtus.

    The Portuguese gaffer will revert to a four-man defence as opposed to the five he used against Cote d’Ivoire.

    Kelechi Iheanacho or Joe Aribo will come into the midfield, with Alhassan Yusuf expected to miss out again as he is yet to recover from the injury he picked up in the game against Equatorial Guinea.

    Nigeria and Guinea-Bissau will clash at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium on Monday.

    AFCON 2023: I’m not under pressure despite our injuries – Super Eagles coach, Peseiro

    Ahead of group A opener between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Nzalang of Equatorial Guinea, head coach, Jose Peseiro has insisted that he is not under pressure despite  injuries that has rocked his team and criticism trailing his side’s latest poor showings.

    Peseiro made this known while addressing pressmen at the press conference on Saturday ahead of Nigeria’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON match with Equatorial Guinea.

    Asked about the injuries rocking the team,  Peseiro said  that he will make use of the players fully fit at his disposal, guaranteeing that they will give their best on the pitch.

    Peseiro’s side head to the game after losing their last 2-0 to Guinea in their last friendly match.

    “To play for Nigeria is not easy, 200 million football fans want to win and we need to answer with good results on the pitch,” Peseiro said.

    “I don’t speak about our last results, I speak about how we can improve our results.

    “We will give our best in tomorrow’s game (today). I’m not under pressure and we will do the best on the pitch ”

    The match between the Super Eagles and the Nzalang of Equatorial Guinea will take place at  Alassane Quattara Stadium in Ebimpe, Abidjan, by 3pm Nigerian time.

    2023 AFCON: Peseiro may replace Ndidi, Iheanacho with Al Hassan, Moffi

    Insinuations are rife that Super Eagles Head Coach of Nigeria ?? Jose Peseiro could replace injured Leicester city’s duo of Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi with Belgian based Royal Antwerp attacker Alhassan Yusuf and OJ Nice of France forward Terem Moffi  as a possible replacements for players.

    Leicester City announced on Monday via their website that both Ndidi and Ihenacho are injured.

    Terem Moffi was invited by Head Coach Gernot Rohr included Moffi in his 31-man list for friendlies in June. Moffi debuted with the Super Eagles in a 1–0 loss to Cameroon on 4 June 2021.

    This will be the first national duty for Al Hassan Yusuf who has had a very promising season in the colour of Royal Antwerp after joining from Swedish IFK Gothenburg in 2021.

    It was gathered that Jose Peseiro  arrived The United Arab Emirates camp on Tuesday evening with his coaching team.

    Peseiro  is expected to announce replacements for both players any moment from now.

    Super Eagles Portuguese gaffer, Jose Peseiro has restated his commitment to his current job thus denying any link or negotiations with  Zamalek SC  of Egypt.

    There were speculations that the 63-year-old was said to have submitted his CV to the Zamalek management for the vacant coaching job

    Peseiro however said his focus is on the Super Eagles job.

    “At the present, all my focus is on the Nigerian national team only,” the Portuguese told btolat.com.

    “There are no negotiations from Zamalek in any case and I am not thinking about anything else.”

    Recall that the Portuguese  signed a contract extension with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) that will see him tinker Super Eagles to AFCON 2024.

    He is under pressure following the Super Eagles poor start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.

    Following the draws recorded by the Super Eagles of Nigeria, against Lesotho and Zimbabwe in the 2026 World Cup qualifier, fans and football stakeholders are already calling for the sack of Peseiro.

    With less than two months to the commencement of AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has insinuated that it will stick with him.

    Nigeria hs been grouped in group  A alongside host Cote D’Ivoire, Guinea Bissau and Equatorial Guinea.

    Super Eagles Portuguese coach, Jose Peseiro has explained why his team drew 1-1 with the Warriors of Zimbabwe during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Sunday at the Huye stadium in Kigali.

    Walter Musona scored the first goal of the encounter when his 30 meters freekick beat Uzoho in the 25th minute before Kelechi Iheanacho equalized for the visitors in the 67th minute.

    The result against Zimbabwe means the Super Eagles have now failed to win their first two games in the World Cup qualifying series, having drawn 1-1 with Lesotho a few days ago.

    Speaking during the post-match press conference, Peseiro said the long travels played a part in the result.

    According to Peseiro, “It was a tough, difficult trip from Nigeria in the flight, many hours, the players didn’t rest enough for quick play at the same level.”

    He added, “First half, very bad, second half, much better.”
