    Israeli army announces killing of Hezbollah HQ commander

    The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) on Tuesday morning announced the killing of Suhail Hussein Husseini, Commander of Hezbollah, the Lebanese militant organisation at its headquarters.

    According to a statement issued by the IDF, the Israeli Air Force conducted a “precise, intelligence-based strike in the area of Beirut’’ that killed Husseini.

    The IDF said that the headquarters oversees logistics within Hezbollah and is in charge of budgeting and management of the various units in the organisation.

    It said that Husseini played a crucial role in weapon transfers between Iran and Hezbollah.

    He was responsible for distributing advanced weaponry among Hezbollah’s units, overseeing both the transportation and allocation of these arms.

    Husseini was also a member of the Jihad Council, Hezbollah’s senior military leadership council, the statement said.

    IDF said the headquarters included Hezbollah’s Research and Development Unit, which is responsible for manufacturing precision-guided missiles and managing the storage and transportation of weapons in Lebanon.

    In his role, Husseini was responsible for the budgeting and logistical management of Hezbollah’s most sensitive projects, including the organisation’s war plans.

    Husseini also engaged in other special operations, such as coordinating attacks against Israel from Lebanon and Syria, the statement added.

    Amotekun commander wants outfit upgraded to state police

    The Amotekun Corps Commander in Osun, Brig.-Gen. Bashir Adewunmbi (rtd), has called for the upgrading of the outfit to a state policing system across the South-West region of the country.

    Adewunmbi made the call in an interview with NAN on Sunday in Osogbo.

    According to him, such development will further strengthen the security architecture of the region and ensure safety of lives and property.

    The corps commander said that upgrading Amotekun to state a police outfit would enhance effective community policing in the region.

    “It will foster closer ties between the people and security agencies, and enhance intelligence sharing for more effective fight against crime,” he said.

    Adewunmbi further said such upgrading should grant the outfit access to  sophisticated arms and ammunition for optimal performance.

    “It will also empower them to prosecute criminals in courts, this will be a step in the right direction,” he said.

    He said that Amotekun had demonstrated the capacity to perform better if upgraded, saying,” it has shown rare bravery in fighting crime”

    “I am in full support of the call for state police. It will help to complement the effort of other security agencies.

    “We need security personnel that understand the terrain to be part of the system,” he said.

    Troops neturalise IPOB/ESN commander, 3 others in Imo

    Troops of the Joint Task Force Operation ‘UDO KA’, have neutralised four members of the  proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), including a commander of the group’s armed Eastern Security Network (ESN) in Imo.

    Lt.-Col. Jonah Unuakhalu, Spokesman for Task Force, said in a statement on Tuesday in Enugu that the troops, based on reliable intelligence, conducted special clearance operation on Monday in Udda, Ihittukwa and Orsumoghu communities in Orsu Local Government Area of the state.

    According to him, the troops dominated and captured the notorious stronghold of the IPOB/ESN at Mother Valley in spite of attempt by the criminal elements to detonate Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) to stop the advancing troops.

    “The gallant joint troops with superior fire power forced the criminals to withdraw in disarray, in the encounter, four of the irredentists were neutralised and others escaped with gunshots wounds.

    “One of the IPOB/ESN commander, Tochukwu, Aka Ojoto, in-charge of Ihietukwa Command, despite many charms on his body, was neutralized,” he said.

    The spokesman listed items recovered from the hideouts to include an AK 47 Rifle with two magazines, two automatic pump action guns, three handheld Baofeng radios, one laptop, and a Techno phone.

    Others are car keys, quantity of substance suspected to be marijuana, Baifran currencies, five IEDs and the device making materials, as well as batteries for detonation of the IEDs, and assorted charms.

    He said that the Force Commander, Maj.-Gen. Hassan Dada, assured all citizens that the Joint Task Force was committed to ensuring peace and stability in the South-East, and called for timely, reliable and credible information through Toll Free line 193 –  Option 2.

    Troops apprehend IPOB/ESN commander in Enugu

    Troops of Sector 1 Exercise GOLDEN DAWN III, in conjunction with other security agencies, apprehended a commander of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

    The IPOB/ESN Commander, Mr Uchechukwu Akpa, and three others, were apprehended on Wednesday, following a credible intelligence report.

    This is contained in a statement issued by Lt.-Col. Jonah Unuakhalu, acting Deputy Director, 82 Division Army Public Relations, on Thursday in Enugu.

    Unuakhalu said that the IPOB/ESN commander and his men were apprehended at their hideout at Christ the King Catholic Church, Ameta, Mgbowo in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State.

    “The arrest was made possible during a raid on their hideout while they were holding a meeting to take over the leadership of IPOB/ESN Auto Pilot Command, Enugu State Chapter, from apprehended former Commander populaly known as “Chocho”.

    “They were also planning to carry out attacks on our troops.

    “During the raid, Mr Uchechukwu Akpa sustained a gunshot wound while trying to escape.

    “Others arrested are Anthony Ude, Ikechukwu Ulanta, and Ezennaya Udeigewere, while quantity 4 of live cartridge were recovered,” he said.

    The army Spokesperson recalled that Akpa was the Second-in-Command to Chocho, a notorious IPOB/ESN criminal, who earlier escaped to Benue State due to the intensity of the operations and was recently arrested.

    He noted that the arrested criminals were presently in custody for further interrogation.

    In a follow-up raid carried out at the early hours of today (Thursday) at another hideout in Nenwe community in Agwu LGA, the following were recovered – one AK 47 rifle, two AK 47 magazines, 25 rounds of 7.62mm NATO special ammunition and one pump action rifle.

    “The General Officer Commanding 82 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Hassan  Dada, wishes to appreciate the incredible cooperation of other security agencies for the success of the operation.

    “He wishes to enjoin the good people of the South-East to support and continually provide timely, reliable, and credible information that will lead to the arrest of more unscrupulous elements through the Emergency Line 193. ”

    “The Nigerian Army will continue to protect lives and property of the good people of the South-East as it carries out its constitutional roles within the ambit of the law,” he added.

    Israeli’s fighter jets hit Hamas leader responsible for Oct. 7 terror

    The Israeli military on Tuesday said that its fighter jets struck a senior Hamas commander who was responsible for the Oct. 7 terrorist attacks on two communities.

    Nasim Abu Ajina directed the massacre on Oct. 7, in the Kibbutz Erez and Moshav Netiv HaAsara, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF).

    The Israeli Security Agency (ISA) said in a joint statement posted on Telegram.

    “In the past, Abu Ajina commanded Hamas’ Aerial Array, and took part in the development of the UAVs and paragliders of the terrorist organisation,’’ the statement continued.

    “His elimination significantly harms the efforts of the Hamas terrorist organisation to disrupt the IDF’s ground activities.’’

    The Israeli military on Tuesday morning also said it had attacked some 300 targets in the Gaza Strip in the previous 24 hours.

    This included anti-tank missile and rocket launch posts below shafts, as well as military compounds inside underground tunnels belonging to the Hamas terrorist organisation.

    A number of Hamas members were killed, the Israeli military said, during its forces’ ground operations.

    Plateau: OPSH commander meets stakeholders, says killings will end soon

    Maj.-Gen. Abdusalam Abubakar, the Commander of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), has promised to deploy necessary modalities to end the ongoing killings and destruction of farmlands and other properties in Plateau.

    The commander, who doubles as the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 3 Division of the Nigeria Army, Rukuba,  said this in a meeting with stakeholders in Mangu Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

    Capt. James Oya, the Spokesperson of the Operation disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Jos.

    The commander, who relocated to Mangu barely 24-hours after he assumed command of the OPSH, said the decision followed Sunday’s attack on Sabo Gari community of the area, where 12 persons were killed and six houses razed.

    Abubakar expressed worry over the lingering attacks and counter attacks in the locality, and called on the people to eschew violence and embrace peace.

    ”Both the President and the Governor are worried with the spate of insecurity in Mangu and surrounding areas.

    ”Security agencies are concerned too, this is why I relocated the headquarters of OPSH to Mangu and I have been here since I assumed responsibility as commander.

    ”I called for this meeting to appeal to all of you to embrace peace so that development can thrive in Mangu and Plateau in general.

    ”I want to assure you that on our part as security agencies, we will be professional, fair, decisive and firm. And soon, these killings will end,” he said.

    The commander, who promised to visit all affected villages and sensitise the people on the need for peaceful coexistence, advised the stakeholders to also preach peace at all times.

    He assured the people of government’s readiness to compensate all those directly affected by the attacks, in order to ease their sufferings.

    Earlier, the Transition Chairman of Mangu LGA, Mr Markus Artu, thanked the commander for initiating the meeting and relocating to the area since Sunday.

    He called on residents to support government and security agencies to ensure the return of lasting peace to the locality and Plateau in general.

    Plateau Killings: Military Commander relocates base to troubled area

    Maj.-Gen. Abdusalam Abubakar, the Commander of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), on Sunday temporarily relocated headquarters of the operation to Mangu Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

    OPSH is a Special Military Task Force, maintaining peace in Plateau and environs.

    Abubakar, who doubles as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) , 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Rukuba, moved to the area barely 24 hours after he assumed command.

    The decision followed a Saturday night attack on Sabon Gari community of Mangu LGA, where 12 persons were killed and six houses completely razed down.

    According to the commander, the move would enable him work in synergy with the local authority to mitigate the situation.

    “’I have relocated the headquarters of OPSH here so we can work with the local authority.

    “We will stay here until we stabilise the situation

    “The governor is disturbed with the happenings, and that is why I am personally here to lead my troops.

    “We won’t allow the situation to deteriorate further. We are not here to joke; and so we will be decisive, fair and firm,” Abubakar said.

    Communities in Mangu have recently come under series of attacks, with many deaths recorded, properties and farmlands destroyed, and many persons currently displaced.

    Gunmen kill “Ebubeagu” commander, 2 others in Ebonyi

    Gunmen shot two persons dead in Mkpuma Akataka Community, Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi on Friday.

    A native of the community, Mrs. Grace Nwite, told NAN on Saturday that hoodlums invaded the community and shot sporadically.

    “They came into the community and started shooting. I heard that the hoodlums came on a motorcycle,’’ Nwite said.

    The hoodlums also killed Mr. Charles Nwankwo, Commander of “Ebubeagu’’ (the Southeast security network) in Ogboji Ward, Ezza North Local Government Area of Ebonyi in his house.

    Ebonyi Commander of “Ebubeagu’’, Mr. Friday Ujor, confirmed the killings.

    “I know about the incident but I have not gotten the full details of the killings,’’ he said.

    Police spokesman in Ebonyi, SP Chris Anyanwu, also confirmed the killing.

    “There were shootings, but there is no proof of political motivation as being peddled now.

    “I will get back to you after some clarification on that aspect,’’ Anyanwu told NAN

    Amotekun to recruit more personnel in Osun – Commander

    Retired Brig.-Gen. Bashir Adewimbi, the Commander of Osun Security Network Agency,  ‘Amotekun Corps’, said more operatives would be recruited to strengthen security and flush out bandits hiding in forests.

    Adewimbi made this known in an interview with NAN, on Saturday in Ede, stating that they had credible intelligence that bandits and criminals were hiding in the forests.

    “The banditry and terrorism we are experiencing in our region now is the spillover effect of what is happening around the country.

    “We have credible intelligence that bandits are all in our forests and we are strategising to comb the forests and make sure we drive them away or arrest them,” he said

    The commander said,”the operatives of the corps are determined to go into the forests flush out these criminals using the forests as their hideout.

    “The governor has approved the recruitment of more operatives who are competent.

    “We will not be recruiting or engaging those who are just looking for work but people that are bold and courageous that will go into the forest to confront and combat criminals hiding in the forests.

    “We are going to recruit courageous hunters that goes into the forest to hunt for weeks and months.

    ”The people we are looking for, we want now, are people that can combat the problem on ground.”

    He said presently, the corps only have 360 operatives, deployed to all the 30 local government areas, and a local council area, in the state, stating that there was serious need to recruit more men.

    Adewimbi said, ”Although the state Amotekun corps gathers intelligence and works with existing security agencies to enhance community policing, their restriction to carry firearms limits their crime fighting operations.

    “Basically, we provide information and confront criminals where there is need for it, even though we are not adequately armed.

    “In the process of our recruitment we factored in the fact that we are not allowed to carry arms /guns but we are working on obtaining licenced guns.

    Speaking on how to improve security in the state, Adewimbi called on the residents to always monitor their environments and not to harbour criminals.

    He said, ”government alone cannot provide all the funds and equipment needed by Amotekun for its operations.

    ”We are therefore appealing to well meaning people of the state to come to our aid, while we are appreciating those already assisting the corps.”

    Vigilante Commander shot dead in Delta

    The Zone 2 Vigilante Commander in Sapele, Delta State, Lucky Victor has been shot dead by yet to be identified gunmen.

    The vigilante commander popularly known as Asikolo, was killed by the gunmen on Thursday evening, while driving in a Sienna car along Okpe Road, close to License Office in Sapele.

    It was gathered that Victor’s assailants numbering about five, drove in a tinted Sienna car without a number plate.

    Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) in the state, Voke Ubuara, exercised sadness over the incident.

    He stated that the deceased was trailed and shot dead by the gunmen, adding that the VGN will collaborate with the police tp fish out the perpetrators.

    The Public Relations Officer of the Delta Police Command, DSP Edafe Bright also confirmed the incident, saying investigation has been launched into the matter.

    Victor’s remains have since been deposited the Central Hospital’s morgue in Sapele.

    Recall that in December 2020, the president of the Anti-cult Volunteers Corps in Delta state, Amb Austyne Emu was shot dead by suspected cultists in Kwale, Delta State.
