Tuchel, Conte sent off as Chelsea play draw against Tottenham

Harry Kane’s equaliser six minutes into stoppage time earned Tottenham a dramatic draw as a fiery London derby at Stamford Bridge ended in an angry confrontation between Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte that resulted in red cards for both managers.

Tempers were running high throughout as Chelsea twice led before Kane’s glancing header seconds from the end gave Spurs a point.

Chelsea dominated the first half and fully deserved the 19th minute lead they earned when their two summer signings combined, Kalidou Koulibaly flashing home a powerful volley from Marc Cucurella’s corner.

Spurs struggled to make any sort of impression, Kane missing their best opportunity, but drew level after 68 minutes when Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s shot beat Edouard Mendy.

Chelsea were furious that referee Anthony Taylor had failed to penalise Rodrigo Bentancur for a challenge on Kai Havertz, the ensuing melee leading to face-to-face fury between the two managers which ended with both Chelsea boss Tuchel and Spurs counterpart Conte receiving yellow cards.

Once order had been restored, Chelsea were back in front as James scored from Raheem Sterling’s pass, the fired up Tuchel celebrating by sprinting past Conte along the touch in elation.

Chelsea thought they had made it six points from two games until Kane headed in Ivan Perisic’s corner – the antipathy not ending there as a handshake between Tuchel and Conte developed into another bust-up between the pair which ended with them both getting their marching orders.

Tottenham Hotspur coach Antonio Conte has revealed that he will be submitting a very big list to the club for the transfer window.

TheNewsGuru reports that Spurs have only 15 senior players fit until the end of the season.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s clash with Liverpool, Conte was asked if he had provided the club a list of players he would like to sign this summer.

“No, no, no. We are totally focused on this season,” Conte replied.

“Also because we are finishing this season with only 15 players and at this moment it is not convenient to give them a list because at this moment it would be a very, very big list.

“It is not a good moment.”

PSG finalising sacking of Pochettino after Ligue 1 title

Ligue 1 Champions Paris Saint-Germain are finalising the sacking of manager Mauricio Pochettino after the league title.

Le Parisien reports that the French club will replace him with Tottenham Hotspur coach, Antonio Conte.

Pochettino led PSG to the Ligue 1 title on Saturday, following a 1-1 draw with Lens.

However, despite this, Pochettino has failed to impress since he was appointed in January 2021.

The Argentine has not delivered the Champions League, which is the trophy PSG want the most and failed to win the league last term.

PSG have also suffered defeats in the French Cup and French Super Cup this season.

Pochettino, who has one year left on his current contract, will now be dismissed “imminently”.

It’s believed the club’s board want him to leave and he’s open to an exit.

His compensation package would cost €15million.

Fantastic Conte brings passion and energy – Tottenham striker

Tottenham striker Heung-min Son is eager for manager Antonio Conte to stay after victory at Leeds.

The Italian cast doubt on his long-term future at Spurs following last week’s loss to Burnley, although has since stressed he is happy in his working relationship with Daniel Levy.

“Obviously we were all frustrated after the result. Obviously we know we can do better, especially with Burnley [because] we know how difficult that place is,” the South Korean said after the win.

“We let ourselves down and we were disappointed. Today we wanted to show great character, to show we can improve. We showed that.

“We have a fantastic manager. He brings passion, he brings so much positive energy. We are all happy to work with him. I think it’s so, so important we keep this.

“That’s why he’s special. He’s so passionate. He wants to win, he wants clean sheets, he wants us to be better.

“This I think is such a positive signal. We should take this as improvement and we should be also that passionate for the games coming.”

Spurs’ victory at Leeds probably comes too late to resurrect their top four hopes as their season has been hit by inconsistency, evidenced by the fact the 1-0 loss at Burnley came four days after they beat champions Manchester City.

Son knows Spurs have to be more stable.

“Obviously we won today, we can be better, but we can’t be super, super happy because we have many more games to come,” he said.

“We have to be consistent, stay focused, stay well and get some other good games.

“We will try as hard as possible to play consistently like this. I think it was a great performance but as I said before, we can’t be happy when you win.

“You can’t be too disappointed when you lose. We need to be consistent like I said before. We need to really prepare well for the games, be humble and I think this is really important for the rest of the season.”

Tottenham playing like we’re in relegation – Conte

Tottenham Hotspur manager, Antonio Conte has said his team are playing like relegation strugglers.

The Italian stated this following a 1-0 loss at Burnley on Wednesday night.

Ben Mee headed in the only goal of the game in the 71st minute, as Spurs slumped to a fourth defeat in five Premier League games.

Conte’s men now sit in eighth place with 39 points from 24 games.

“In the last five games, we are playing like we are in relegation, this is the reality.

“I want to try to improve the situation and also to make an assessment with the club. If we continue in this way, maybe we have to pay great attention, because in this league, we can finish 10th, 12th, 13th — the same way when I arrived here, the same position,” Conte said after the game.

  • Antonio Conte regrets becoming Tottenham coach

Antonio Conte regrets becoming Tottenham coach

Chelsea and Tottenham legends, Jason Cundy and Jamie O’Hara have noted that Tottenham coach, Antonio Conte is regretting joining the Premier League club.

Both former Premier League stars shared the view after Conte hit out at Tottenham’s transfer business and winning mentality in a stunning interview with Sky Italia on Wednesday.

Spurs are struggling with form and Conte hit at the club, saying they are now ‘weaker’ after the January window.

Tottenham brought in Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus, but before then, four senior players were allowed to leave the club in the persons of Tanguy Ndomble, Dele Alli, Bryan Gil and Giovani Lo Celso.

“We lost four players in January. Four important players for Tottenham, and we brought in only two. So, even just in terms of numbers, rather than reinforce the squad, we on paper weakened it,” Conte cried out.

And reacting to this, Cundy told talkSPORT that the former Juventus, Chelsea and Inter Milan boss, “Basically he’s saying, why have I come to Spurs?

“That is a statement of regret. He knows it’s going to come back.

“It’s damning what he has said there. But he’s talking facts.”

And O’Hara echoed Cundy’s sentiments, saying Conte’s comments will have done his players no good.

O’Hara said: “It’s too honest. I’m not happy about it. He’s covering his own back and digging everyone else out at the club.

“I know he’s speaking facts, but he can’t do that as manager.

“If you’re a player you’re a little bit disappointed in the gaffer there.

“You can see he’s not happy, on the sidelines, he looks like he’s crushed and the weight of the world is on his shoulders and he doesn’t know how to get out.

“He’s always had great players and he’s always had clubs who want to win the league and now he’s at a club that doesn’t want to win the league.”

Tottenham paying for past transfer mistakes – Conte

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte says the club is making up for past transfer mistakes.

The Italian says with four players leaving on-loan, it shows errors have been made.

Conte said: “It was strange, in January to send four on loan, and sell one player [Dele Alli]. It means maybe in the past, you have to see what you did. And maybe to understand that there were some mistakes in the past.

“Because usually you have to buy players to reinforce your team. But if you send away players on loan you bought in the last two or three years, it means maybe you did something wrong in the past.

“For sure to lose four players in January, I repeat is not normal. We shared the decision with the club and the players. But I repeat, it means something wrong happened in the past. Usually you buy players to reinforce your team, you don’t lose players after one, two or three years.

“For this reason, we have to pay more attention in the future when we go in the market about the choice of the players. It becomes of fundamental importance if we want to reinforce the quality of the team. Otherwise, when you go reinforce the quality of your team, you drop the quality of your team.

“I hope I transferred my thoughts to my club because I repeat, I have my vision. I’m here to try to help my club to improve.

“In my experiences in the past, I have built good structure, good teams that have lasted over time. Also without me, also without me.

“It means maybe if I tell something and have a vision, I see the situation. Here we need to build, we need to build a good structure and create a good foundation.

“It will be very important to not make mistakes in the future, because in this moment many teams are higher than us and for this reason, to catch up with them, we have to reduce the mistakes. We have to reduce them, have a vision and follow this line.”

However, Sky Sports reports that the 22-year-old has been told that he will be in the squad for the rest of the season.

Spurs were eliminated from the Carabao Cup by Chelsea on Wednesday night, going 3-0 across the two semi-final legs.

Conte cut a frustrated figure after the game and admitted he was in trouble with his squad heading into the north London derby against Arsenal this weekend.

“At the end of the two games Chelsea deserved to reach the final in this competition, we have to be honest,” Conte said.

“In the second half we created many chances to score and we deserved a result better than losing 1-0 but if you have a judgement over the two games Chelsea deserved to win.”

On the game against Arsenal, he added: “We have to recover some players. When we lose one, two or three players we’re in a bit of trouble.”

Carabao Cup: We must give everything to beat Chelsea – Conte

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte says his team must give everything to defeat Chelsea on Wednesday.

Spurs must overturn a 2-0 deficit to reach the Carabao Cup final.

On Tottenham’s chances of progressing to the final, Conte told reporters: “It’s hard, we know we’re facing a really top team that last season won the Champions League and in the summer they invested much money to improve the squad.

“At this moment we’re playing the best in Europe and when you play against this type of team it’s hard.

“Despite our problems with injuries, we need to try to give everything and show great desire to fight and a great personality.

“We have to show that compared to the first game we can improve and try to fight in the best way.”
