Man Utd trigger Pogba contract extension

Manchester United have triggered the 12 month option in Paul Pogba’s contract.

Pogba’s £290,000-a-week deal was due to run out at the end of the season but United made the decision to trigger the clause several weeks ago, says the Daily Mail.

It means Pogba cannot leave as a free agent next summer or talk to foreign clubs in January, having once again described the prospect of playing for Real Madrid as “a dream” last week.

The comment raised more questions over his future at Old Trafford, but at least United have the reassurance of knowing their investment in the 27-year-old midfielder is protected.

“Paul’s our player,” said manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. “He’s going to be here for another two years and I’m sure he’s focused on doing his best for us.

“We want to see the best of Paul and I’m sure in the next couple of years we’ll get the best out of him.”

Manchester United are ready to trigger a 12-month clause in Paul Pogba’s contract.

The Daily Mail says it is understood United are preparing to activate a one year extension option on midfielder Pogba’s contract.

The World Cup winner is approaching the final 18 months of his current contract – but can trigger an extra year on his deal to protect his value.

United, it is understood, are still to formally discuss a longer extension to Pogba’s contract but know they have a safety net of extending his existing deal.

Wijnaldum rejects latest Liverpool contract offer

Gini Wijnaldum has rejected a new contract offer from Liverpool.

Wijnaldum has been locked in talks with the club for over a year now but the two parties are still yet to reach an agreement. His current deal expires next June.

Last month speculation linking him to Barcelona intensified following the arrival of Ronald Koeman.

Football Insider says Wijnaldum has rejected the club’s latest offer of a new deal.

The 29-year-old is believed to be holding out for a contract that runs until at least 2024.

But it appears the Anfield hierarchy are reluctant to commit to a long-term deal on improved wages considering the player turns 30 in November.

Serie A: Juventus terminate Higuain contract

Juventus have terminated Gonzalo Higuain’s contract with a year left to run, paving the way for the Argentine striker to make a move to Inter Miami on a two-season deal, Goal reports

The 32-year-old, who arrived in Turin in 2016 as one of the most expensive transfers in football history, has seen the curtain brought down on his career with the Bianconeri as he prepares to switch to Major League Soccer on a contract that will run until 2022.

The former Argentina forward, who announced his international retirement last year, was signed from Napoli following a season where he finished as Serie A’s top scorer and enjoyed a fruitful first two seasons at Allianz Stadium.

But he spent the 2018-19 campaign farmed out first to Milan and then Chelsea after Cristiano Ronaldo arrived from Real Madrid, surprising onlookers who had expected both to star in attack together.

Though he returned to the club last year, reuniting with his former Blues boss Maurizio Sarri, he has not done enough to figure in new coach Andrea Pirlo’s plans going forward, and was thought to be mulling over a number of options surrounding his future.

Now, he looks almost certain to join David Beckham’s expansion side in Florida, having agreed personal terms with the club, with a medical set to follow shortly.

EPL: Arsenal to make Aubameyang best paid

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is ready to put pen to paper on a new Arsenal contract.

The Athletic reports the striker has finally committed his future and an announcement is imminent.

It is also claimed that Aubameyang is set for a mammoth pay rise on his current £200,000-a-week deal, which was due to expire next summer, to take him to the top of Arsenal’s wage list.

It is understood that Aubameyang’s deal is worth more than Mesut Ozil’s £350,000-a-week agreement, with the striker extending his stay with the Premier League giants until 2023.

The influence of Gunners manager Mikel Arteta as well as Aubameyang’s father was significant in persuading the striker to commit, it is claimed.

Last month, the boss admitted his star man was on the brink of penning a new deal.

Arteta said: “I keep being positive, we have some really good talks with him and his agent. I am pretty confident we’re going to find an agreement soon. That’s my feeling again.

“Absolutely. And for him as well, I think. I think he should be very happy if he is able to stay at the club for a long time.”

EPL: Chelsea to hand Batshuayi surprise new contract

Premier League side Chelsea are ready to hand Michy Batshuayi a new contract.

The Sun says the Belgian striker, 26, is to be offered an extension to avoid him walking away for nothing next summer.

No clubs who can afford Batshuayi have shown an interest in this window, so Chelsea hope by giving him a further year he can go out and increase his value.

The terms could see Batshuayi get a £15,000 rise to £100k-a-week — a lot of money for a player down the pecking order under manager Frank Lampard.

However, any club taking him on loan would be asked to pick up the tab and pay most of that salary for a season.

The news has put Crystal Palace, West Brom and Newcastle on alert.

They could not afford to buy him but now they could loan him.

I will see out my contract at Arsenal – Ozil

Arsenal forward Mesut Ozil on Thursday said he would see out his contract with the Premier League club which runs through the summer of 2021.

Ozil, the Germany World Cup winner who did not play for the club when the season resumed in June after the Coronavirus lockdown, said he would fight his way back into the team.

“My position is clear. I’m here through to the last day of our agreement and I’ll give everything I have for the club,”he said.

The 31-year-old said he was convinced he still had a role to play for Arsenal.

“Things have been difficult, but I love Arsenal. I’ll decide when I go, not other people.

“Situations like these will never break me, they only make me stronger. I showed in the past that I can come back into the team and I will show it again,” he said.

Ozil, who joined Arsenal in 2013, retired from the German national team after the 2018 World Cup amid controversy over a pre-tournament picture taken with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Inter plot bank busting contract offer for Messi

Inter Milan are planning a bank busting contract offer for Barcelona captain Lionel Messi.

The Argentine is in the midst of a frosty rift with Barcelona chiefs and the Serie A side look set to try and take advantage of the feud with a “2021 assault”.

Gazzetta dello Sport says Messi’s deal runs out next summer and the Italians hope to lure him away from the Nou Camp with a mega money deal.

Inter’s majority shareholders Suning Group Holdings reportedly believe they can stump up the dough to prise Messi away from the Nou Camp and to the San Siro next season.

A Bola also report Inter will offer a three-year deal worth £45.5million-a-year.

It also emerged yesterday Messi’s dad and agent Jorge has splashed out some cash on a plush new pad in the Italian capital Milan.

He is said to be pulling the strings of his son’s potential switch to the Nerazzuri next season.

  • Pogba close to signing five-year Man Utd contract

Pogba close to signing five-year Man Utd contract

Paul Pogba is close to signing a new five-year contract at Manchester United.

The Sun says United are confident of announcing the news at the end of the season.

The Frenchman, 27, has had a change of heart since expressing his desire to leave the club this time last season.

Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reinstated him into his post-lockdown team after he recovered from an ankle injury.

While Pogba looked tired and made a couple of errors against Southampton — one of which led to their first goal in Monday’s 2-2 draw — he has generally been playing well.

Solskjaer had started to plan for the future without him but has noticed a real change in attitude and form.
