Rudiger makes contract talks decision at Chelsea

Chelsea defender Toni Rudiger has made a decision about new contract talks.

The Daily Star says Rudiger is set to end the uncertainty over his Chelsea future by signing a new deal with the club.

Rudiger, who is about to enter the final year of his current contract, almost quit last summer after being sidelined.

But the Germany defender has since become a key man under Thomas Tuchel and sources close to the player have now signalled he wants to stay.

Rudiger wants to wait until the end of the season to hold talks, but both sides expect them to be formality.

Frozen out under Frank Lampard, the 28-year-old underlined how important he is to Tuchel in Tuesday night’s win over Leicester.

Rudiger scored the opener in a 2-1 win and his role in sticking up for team-mate Mason Mount during a mass confrontation did not go unnoticed either.

Mbaka tackles presidency over contract rejection saga

The Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu Nigeria, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, has reacted to the accusation by the Presidency that he fell out with President Muhammadu Buhari because of the refusal of the President to award contracts to three of his favoured contractors.

Mbaka reacted to the development on Sunday at the AMEN ground in Enugu.

This followed a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, which said Mbaka’s call last week for the resignation or impeachment of Buhari was because he was denied contracts.

Shehu said the Presidency did not release the video footage of the conversation the priest had with Buhari in order not to cause any uproar.

Mbaka, however, said on Sunday that the accusation was laughable.

He said no amount of government patronage was capable of influencing his utterances since he was speaking strictly under the leading of the Holy Spirit.

He said he was “happy that the truth was hitting them.

“We are not afraid of them.

“Buhari cannot do it again; health and age are not on his side.

“We need a stronger and an experienced goalkeeper in a time like this.

“If they want to put it that it was because of contract, let them come and build the highest university here and begin to mess up, I will still speak.

“I don’t want to talk about that because it’s a laughable and childish accusation.

“Whoever is saying that, is a shame to himself and shame to the people he is representing.

“Fr. Mbaka’s voice came from the spiritual.

“So what I’m saying is unchallengeable.

“With enormous joy, I am happy that the truth is hitting them hard.

“No amount of money can merchandise the Holy Ghost anointing in me.

    “Fr Mbaka is ‘unbribable’.

“Even if they come and build the highest university here, that cannot bribe me.”

Mbaka, however, admitted that he led three men to meet with the President during his first tenure, explaining that they were security experts who had offered to help in solving Nigeria’s security challenges.

He added: “I don’t know them, but they came to Enugu and pleaded for me to link them to government because of the level of insecurity and how Nigeria has been moving oil outside the country.

“These are the three people they rejected their offer.”

Edinson Cavani U-turn over Man Utd contract plans

Edinson Cavani is ready to commit to a new deal at Manchester United, according to South American sources.

ESPN says the Uruguay striker has had a change of heart and will announce his decision next week.

Cavani was understood to be concerned about his lack of playing time at United and was also angry over his treatment at the hands of the FA who hit him with a three-match ban and £100,000 fine for using the word ‘negrito’ in a social media post.

Last month his father Luis said: “My son does not feel comfortable in England and wants to be close to the family again. Edinson is going to end up playing in South America – he would like to play for Boca.”

But it now appears that the former Paris Saint-Germain and Napoli striker is ready to extend his career in Europe by another season and stay at United.

Arsenal consider allowing David Luiz to come off contract

Arsenal considering allowing David Luiz to come off contract this summer.

The Brazilian has made 16 starts for the Gunners this season and was enjoying a resurgence in the team before he was forced to undergo knee surgery this month, with Mikel Arteta instead calling upon Rob Holding, Pablo Mari and Gabriel Magalhaes.

Football.London says while he is valued as an experienced member of the Spaniard’s squad, the club are not currently looking to agree new terms with him.

With William Saliba and Konstantinos Mavropanos both returning from loans at Nice and Stuttgart respectively, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta feels he has enough options at centre-back.

He is particularly keen to give more first-team opportunities to Saliba, it says, who endured a tough start to his Arsenal career after failing to make a single first-team appearance at the beginning of this campaign.

Man City puts new contract talks with Raheem Sterling on ice

Premier League leader Manchester City are delaying new contract talks with Raheem Sterling.

He will have to wait to put the finishing touches to a new £320,000-a-week deal, says The Sun.

The City winger has held initial discussions on fresh terms.

But the club put the next round of talks on ice.

Sterling, 26, is currently on £275,000 a week but parted company with agent Aidy Ward at the start of this year and his affairs are being handled by lawyers.

With the England forward deciding on a long-term management move, City have turned their attentions to a raft of other contract negotiations.

Kevin De Bruyne — who, like Sterling, is tied to the Etihad until 2023 — is top of the list, with City keen to nail him down to a new five-year deal.

Discussions are also planned with Fernandinho and Sergio Aguero, both out of contract in July.

Manchester United defender Eric Bailly is ready to leave Old Trafford this summer.

A dressing-room insider told The Sun: “Eric has had enough now.

“He simply doesn’t feel wanted or respected by the manager.

“Eric doesn’t believe he gets any answers or explanation about the way he is treated and feels he is the easy option to leave out.

Wijnaldum is now into the final few months of his current deal at Anfield, and has yet to extend his stay with the reigning Premier League champions.

Liverpool suffered a sixth successive home loss at the hands of Fulham and the Dutch international addressed the speculation surrounding his future after the game.

“If you’re a fan and you support the team – you support the player and what they do with me,” Wijnaldum told beIN Sports.

“You want to hear what’s going to happen but on the other side, for me, if there’s nothing to say and no news I cannot say something.

“I hope they can understand that and I hope they will stay patient until there’s news.

“The most important thing right now is that we fix things in the game as a team and we get results.

“Talking about an individual, in this case about me and my contract situation – because I just said there’s no news, I think we can focus on better things than on my situation.

Premier League club Manchester United and midfielder Paul Pogba are at deadlock over new contract talks.

The Daily Express says there are currently no discussions ongoing between club representatives and the French midfielder’s notorious agent Mino Raiola despite the fact his contract is set to expire in just over a year’s time.

Pogba has been the subject of a huge amount of speculation once again this season, with rumours continuing to suggest he could soon make a move to either Real Madrid or Juventus.

Raiola claimed in December that his client is “unhappy” at Old Trafford, and is looking to leave as soon as possible.

But there are currently no talks scheduled between any parties.

And they also claim United are still none the wiser as to Pogba’s plans and whether or not he intends to remain at the club until the end of his current deal.

The 27-year-old has once again had a mixed season on the pitch, and has struggled with a number of injury issues.
