PDP explains why Osun first lady’s convoy was attacked

The  Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun state has washed itself clean of any involvement in the attack on the convoy of the first lady, Kafayat Oyetola.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that the convoy was attacked on Friday in the Owode area of the state, and some of the First Lady’s aides sustained injuries.

Meanwhile, the PDP in Osun state has revealed the real cause of the attack on the first lady’s convoy, saying that it was caused by Mrs. Oyetola’s escort who beat up a truck driver whose vehicle blocked the road.

This was contained in a statement on Saturday by Osun PDP Media Director, Oladele Bamiji, titled ‘How First Lady’s Escorts Beat Up Truck Driver, Sparking Public Reaction-Osun PDP’.

The statement read, “We are shocked to read this morning the futile attempt by the office of the outgoing First Lady to cover up the irresponsible conduct of her escort who beat up a truck driver at Owode, leading to public angry reactions against her entire convoy.

“According to eyewitness accounts, yesterday was Owode Ede market day and the road was expectedly crowded.

“A truck had developed a fault right in the middle of the road with the driver making efforts to get it to work.

“Realising the outcome of their criminal misadventure, the operatives rushed the driver to the hospital after the former had slumped. It was at this point that people around the market angrily reacted, pelting the convoy with stones and others.

“Eye witness accounts further revealed that at the time the convoy was attacked, the angry crowd was not even aware of who was in the convoy until reinforcement was sent to the scene from Government House with sporadic shootings.

“We have gone this far with the details of the incident to strongly deny allegations that PDP thugs were responsible for the self-inflicted attacks on the convoy of the First Lady.

“As a party, we have no Asiri Eniba or Rashid Oko Ilu as the First Lady’s family actively nurtured before, during, and after the election.

“PDP is a people’s party whose members will never harass and molest innocent citizens whose only crime was pursuing their daily needs under an economy recklessly battered by the First Lady’s party.

“We call on the First Lady to apologize to the truck driver who was inhumanly treated. It is not enough to rush him to the hospital. The First Lady should atone for the sins of his overzealous escorts unless she was responsible for the directive to beat up the innocent driver.

  • How Governor Inuwa’s ADC, driver, others blocked my convoy, unleashed terror on me for hours – Senator Goje

How Governor Inuwa’s ADC, driver, others blocked my convoy, unleashed terror on me for hours – Senator Goje

Former Gombe Governor Senator Danjuma Goje has narrated how the aide-de-camp of Governor Inuwa Yahaya allegedly blocked and attacked his convoy while on his way to attend the wedding of his granddaughter, Fatima Abdullahi Musa in Gombe town.

Goje, who is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Marine Transport, in a statement by his media aide, Lilian Nworie, in Abuja, said he arrived Gombe from Abuja via Gombe Airport in Lawanti, peacefully until the Governor’s aides blocked the road.

“The Distinguished Senator’s trip was peaceful until when the governor’s aides, including his aide-de-camp and his personal driver, blocked the road. For two hours, they unleashed terror on Senator Goje and those in his convoy.

“It is unfortunate that one life was lost and many cars vandalised including the Senator’s vehicle. They smashed the windscreen.

“All efforts to make the Governor’s aide-de-camp remove the blockade yielded no result as he insisted that he got instruction from above that the former governor should not be allowed into the town,” Nworie said.

She said the Governor’s driver, Aminu Hula and Gombe State APC Youth Leader, Kawu Lero have been arrested by the State Police Command.

“They have been arrested but the aide-de-camp who led the people to attack the former governor had since returned to those who sent him.

“The aide-de-camp said he was acting based on orders from the above. In this case, it is his boss, Gombe State Governor,” she said.

She however said that the former Governor as a peace-loving leader of the State has urged his teeming supporters to be calm and law-abiding and called for an independent investigation of the incident.

Ex-Gov behind the attacks – Gombe Government

Meanwhile, the State Government, in a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Julius Ishaya Lepes, blamed Goje for the incident.

The statement reads: “The former Governor, in his characteristic manner, decided to mobilise thugs from various LGAs armed to their teeth under the pretext of accompanying him from the airport into the State capital for reasons best known to him.

“Recall that during the last Eid el-Kabir Sallah celebration, the same person sponsored some thugs that threw caution into the wind and went on a rampage, leading to loss of 2 lives. Also just last week at Deba in Yamaltu Deba LGA the same scenario played out at the instance of the Senator.

“It is sad that Goje has not left his old ways and is bent on bringing back his brainchild (Kalare) to unleash mayhem and bug the peaceful atmosphere of Gombe State.”

While sympathising with families of the five people killed and those who sustained injuries, the State Government commended security agencies for their timely intervention in bringing the ugly situation under control.
