    Bandits open fire on Edo Senator’s convoy, three policemen injured

    Senator representing Edo Central Senatorial District, Clifford Ordia on Monday escaped death by a whisker when suspected bandits opened fire on his convoy.

    Ordia who is Chairman, Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts happened said his attacked twice by the criminals along the Okene-Lokoja-Abuja road same day.

    The senator said during the exchange of gun fire between the criminals and security officers attached to him, three policemen sustained bullet wounds.

    He said one of the wounded policemen is in a critical condition, but responding to treatment in one of the hospitals in Abuja.

    He said his personal vehicle was riddled with bullets though he was lucky to have escaped unhurt.

    Ordia recounted: “We were coming from Edo State, somewhere between Okene and Lokoja, when we met these suspected bandits. They opened fire on my convoy. The gallant policemen had to immediately return fire.

    “The other security vehicle behind had to immediately join them and they were able to repel the suspected bandits.

    “During the exchange, three of the policemen sustained bullet wounds. One of them was critically injured. We had to immediately rush them to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Lokoja, Kogi State.

    “They did their best and was able to stabilise them. I had to immediately call the Federal Medical Centre in Abuja to be on standby. One of the policemen had a bullet lodged close to his liver.

    “We met another setback around Abaji. There was traffic because of the incident and because we had to save the lives of the wounded policemen, we decided to make a move.

    “They opened fire on us. Some vigilantes had to join the policemen and they were chased into the bush.

    “That was how I survived that attack. If you see all my vehicles, you’ll see how the bullets damaged them. But I’m glad that we all survived.

    “I must salute the gallantry of our policemen. If given the right equipment, they can do a lot and protect Nigerians.”

    He called on the Federal Government to urgently restructure the security architecture.

    He lamented no one is safe anymore. He said something urgent must be done to restore order to every part of the country and protect the lives of Nigerians.

    Reports reaching TheNewsGuru.com.com has it that gunmen on Saturday afternoon attacked the Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom.

    According to reports, the attack happened at Tyo Mu along Makurdi/Gboko road in Makurdi Local Government Area of the state.

    Governor Ortom was said to be on his way to Makurdi when the gunmen opened fire on his convoy but were repelled by his security men.

    According to sources close to the governor, “herdsmen numbering 15 attackers trailed the governor to the river bank where he was on foot inspecting a farm….”

    Bandits attack Kaduna emir’s convoy, kill two in Igabi, Kauru LGAs

    The convoy of the Emir of Birnin Gwari in Kaduna state, Alhaji Zubairu Maigwari has been attacked by bandits.

    According to a statement by the Commissioner for internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, the official vehicle of the Emir was shot by bandits at about 4:30 PM on Monday around the Zonkoro axis of the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari road, within Chikun local government area.

    He says that only the Emir’s driver and his orderly, a Police Inspector was in the vehicle while they were on their way to Kaduna when the incident occurred, adding that no life was lost.

    In another incident, armed robbers barricaded a bridge leading to Kitansa village in Kauru local government and shot dead one Danladi Goriye, while another person, Sunday Garba sustained gunshot wounds.

    Similarly, armed bandits barricaded the Buruku-Mando road in the Igabi local government area and opened fire on vehicles plying the road, and the process, killed One Abdullahi Baballe, a resident of the Lema area in Mando.

    In another development, troops of Operation Thunder Strike have neutralized two bandits during a raid at a suspected bandit camp called Rafin Rikamba in Chikun local government while others escaped with gunshot wounds.

    The Commissioner also disclosed that troops of Operation Safe Haven apprehended a suspected bandit informant, one Muhammad Sani Abubakar, at Apyimbuu village in Zangon Kataf local government area. The suspect has been handed over to the Police for further investigation.

    Furthermore, Police personnel intercepted two brothers suspected to be gun runners, Abdullahi Samaila and Adamu Samaila, from Toro village in Bauchi State, along the Kaduna-Saminaka road with 150 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition concealed in the door of their vehicle.

    The suspects according to Security agencies confessed to supplying ammunition to three previously arrested suspects, Marcus Danladi, Danjuma Dachi, and Ibrahim Haruna (arrested in late February) from Plateau State for onward supply to one Usman aka Gurgu in Kaduna State.

    The trio was arrested with 1,565 rounds of ammunition on February 28th. Following that, one Suleiman Tukur and his son, Shuaibu Suleiman, were arrested in Karahi as part of the same syndicate. They were in possession of 231 rounds.

    10 policemen in Bauchi Gov’s convoy escape death in motorcade accident

    No fewer than 10 policemen of the Rapid Response Squad in Bauchi State’s Gov. Bala Mohammed motorcade were involved in a road accident on Monday.

    The accident occurred while Gov. Mohammed was inspecting a 60- kilometer Burga-Yelwan Duguri road project in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area (LGA) currently being constructed by the state government.

    The road is designed to connect the people of Tafawa Balewa LGA to Yelwan Duguri and the environs of Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state.

    A correspondent of NAN, who witnessed the accident reports that the Toyota Hilux vehicle conveying the police officers veered off the road around 1:30 p.m as a result of the huge dust that made visibility almost impossible.

    The Hilux lost control and somersaulted twice, but no life was lost in the accident.

    All the police personnel involved were taken to the Bununu General Hospital in Tafawa Balewa LGA for treatment.

    TRAGIC TUESDAY: Three Borno politicians in Zulum’s convoy die as vehicle somersaults

    Three politicians accompanying Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, have died in an auto crash on their way back from Mafa, the governor’s hometown.

    The governor had returned to his local ward in Mafa on Tuesday from where he flagged off the membership revalidation exercise of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

    According to reports, the former governor of the state, Senator Kashim Shettima, the Party’s caretaker chairman, Speaker of Borno State House of Assembly and other party faithful were among those in Zulum’s motorcade from Maiduguri to Mafa for the event.

    The event was successfully conducted and the convoy had headed back to Maiduguri where the former governor was scheduled to revalidate his membership in his local ward of Lamisula, when the ill-fated politicians driving in one of the pilot jeeps met their death.

    Witnesses said the vehicle lost a tire, swerved off the road and began to somersault, killing three occupants, one of whom was the Chief of Kanuri people in Lagos, Mai Masa Mohammed.

    His title was Mai Kanuribe and he was also the Sarkin Hausa of Ijora.

    The governor accompanied the corpse of the late chieftain to his family compound in Bulumkutu area of Maiduguri where he is being prepared for burial later today.

    Bandits ambush police convoy in Kano, kill four officers, kidnap one

    Four policemen have been killed and one officer kidnapped in an ambush on a police convoy by bandits along Birnin-Gwari Funtua Highway in Kano.

    Authorities say sixteen (16) officers were attacked in the ambush which happened on Friday, 15th January 2021.

    The officers who are personnel attached to Operation Puff Adder were deployed to Niger State in the sustained operation to reclaim public space and tackle incidents of banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes in the area.

    According to a communique by the police spokesman, CP Frank Mba, the officers were heading back to their base in Kano after the completion of their special duty when they were ambushed.

    CP Mba noted on Sunday that a fierce gun-battle ensued, leading to the death of the four officers whose names were not disclosed.

    Mr. Mba said contrary to unconfirmed reports in some sections of the media stating that eighteen (18) officers were kidnapped, only sixteen were attacked and eleven successfully repelled the attack “accordingly and neutralized the bandits in their tens while many of the bandits scampered into the bush with gunshot injuries”.

    He further revealed that the eleven officers led by their Unit Commander successfully recovered the bodies and firearms of their fallen colleagues while concerted efforts are being intensified to rescue the officer still missing.

    The police image-maker said the Inspector General of Police, IGP M.A Adamu has commended the police officers attached to the Police Mobile Force – 9 PMF Squadron in Kano for displaying uncommon gallantry and repelling the attack on their convoy.

    According to Mr. Mba’s statement, the IGP, while commiserating with the families of the officers who have yet again paid the supreme price in the service of the nation, assured that their death shall not be in vain.

    The IGP further assured citizens that the Force is not deterred and will not relent in its commitment to delivering on its mandate and ensuring that all activities of bandits and other unscrupulous elements in the area and other parts of the country are brought to check.

    Hoodlums on Saturday attacked vehicles in the convoy of Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, while he was talking to #EndSARS protesters in Osogbo, the state capital.

     

    The hoodlums vandalized some of the vehicles in the governor’s convoy as his security aides ferried him to safety after a pandemonium.

     

    The Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Media, Mabel Aderonke, confirmed the attack while sharing photos of the vandalized vehicles.

    “There was a scary attempt on Governor Adegboyega Oyetola’s life by armed thugs on Saturday in Osogbo,” @MabelAderonkeN tweeted.

    Boko Haram launches another attack on Zulum’s convoy in broad daylight

    Boko Haram terrorists on Sunday attacked Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum’s convoy again as he was returning from Baga to Maiduguri.

    According to reports, Zulum had departed Baga around 10:30am, as suspected Boko Haram terrorists were said to have opened fire on his convoy.

    It was gathered that military operatives engaged the terrorists in shootout and successfully escorted Zulum out of Baga to Maiduguri.

    TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that the insurgents had less than 48 hours ago laid ambush and attacked state government officials and security operatives who were going to Baga to meet the governor.

    Eighteen people including police officers, soldiers, Civilian JTF and others were killed in the ambush.

    The governor returned to Maiduguri after receiving 1000 returnees and staying two nights in Baga.

    Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno decried the killing of eight policemen and three members of Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF), who were ambushed in Kukawa Local Government Area on Friday.

    Zulum lamentation is contained in a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media and Strategies, Malam Isa Gusau, in Maiduguri on Saturday.

    The governor said that two convoys; one belonging to the governor and other conveying members of a Committee on Baga Reconstruction had safely passed the Maiduguri-Baga route previous days before the third convoy of security men was ambushed.

    Zulum was in Baga from Thursday to Friday as part of the efforts to resettle the people back to their community after displacement by Boko Haram insurgents.

    According to him, the visit to Baga was “aimed at cutting Boko Haram’s long use of the commercial town as main transit for undertaking major fishing trade and tax administration, from which the insurgents fund their murderous activities’’.

    “Baga, Borno’s largest fishing community in the shores of the Lake Chad with water ways to neighbouring countries is considered strategic to Boko Haram’s operation,’’ the governor said.

    Zulum was saddened by the unfortunate carnage and shared the grief of families of the 11 priceless heroes “to whom Borno shall remain grateful for their commitment and sacrifices’’.

    The governor prays for the repose of their souls and urges all stakeholders to remain committed to the ongoing peace building efforts.

    He said people must continue to keep hope alive “even in the face of tribulations’’.

    He also believed that with sustained efforts and prayers, Borno will eventually regain peace.

    “The situation facing us is a tough one but we must choose between doing something, which gives us some hope, and doing nothing, which will leave us more vulnerable to Boko Haram’s ultimate wish to takeover Borno and bring it under their sovereign brutal administration.’’

    The governor attended Jumma’at prayer in Baga town with thousands of people.

    He was accompanied by Sen. Abubakar Kyari, (Borno North), House of Representatives members representing Marte, Monguno, Nganzai, Mohammed Tahir-Monguno and that of Mobbar, Kukawa, Guzamala, Abadam federal constituencies, Bukar Kareto among others.

    Baga town was displaced by the Boko Haram insurgents two years ago, forcing thousands of people to take refuge in Monguno and Maiduguri, the capital of the Borno.

    Boko Haram: Police confirm death of officers, others in ‘heavy gun attack’ on Zulum’s convoy

    The Borno State Police Command has confirmed the killing of its officers by suspected Boko Haram insurgents in the Baga area of the state.

    TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that an ambush on the convoy of the Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, on Friday left about 30 persons dead.

    The governor’s convoy was said to have been attacked between Monguno and Baga areas of the state.

    It was learnt that the governor had left Maiduguri for Baga to prepare for the planned return of internally displaced persons from Maiduguri to the camps in Baga.

    Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Edet Okon, in a statement issued on Saturday said eight policemen and three other members of the Civilian Joint Task Force “paid the supreme price”.

    The police spokesman added that 13 other persons sustained various degrees of injuries.

    He said, “On 25th September, 2020, about 12pm, the security convoy who were heading to Baga in respect of Government’s effort to relocate indigenes of Baga to their ancestral home came under heavy gun attack by Armed Men suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists a few Kilometers from Cross Kauwa.

    “In the ensuing gunfight, however, casualties were recorded on both sides. Unfortunately, eight Policemen and three members of the Civilian Joint Task Force paid the supreme price.

    “Thirteen other persons sustained various degrees of injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.”

    Okon quoted the Commissioner of Police, Bello Makwashi, as assuring members of the public that “the Force will not relent in providing the needed security for the good citizens of Borno State at all times.”
