Brazil’s President, Jair Bolsonaro, who recently had dinner with US President Donald Trump has tested negative for coronavirus.

A post on his Facebook page on Friday debunked earlier media reports that a first test had been positive.

Bolsonaro and a large Brazilian entourage, including cabinet ministers, met with Trump and other senior U.S. officials last weekend at Mar-a-Lago. One of the party, Bolsonaro’s communications secretary Fabio Wajngarten, tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday and is in quarantine.

The entire delegation, including Bolsonaro, was subsequently tested. It is not yet known if the results of any of the others have come back positive.

“He tested negative full stop,” Bolsonaro’s son Eduardo told Fox News.

Fox News had previously reported that an initial test had come back positive. Eduardo did not directly answer a question from Fox News as to whether that was the case.

Trump said on Thursday he was “not concerned” about having come into contact with Wajngarten.

CNN later reported he was worried, citing a source close to the U.S. president.

Trump set to declare national emergency as US coronavirus worsens

A national emergency will be declared by President Donald Trump today as the coronavirus rages relentlessly in the country.

On Friday, the US coronavirus death toll hit 41 and confirmed cases surpassed 1840.

Trump reportedly plans to invoke the Stanford Act, which will open the door to more federal aid for states and municipalities.

Senate Democrats have been urging Trump to invoke the Stanford Act and other disaster declarations, which they say will free $42 billion in funding.

The emergency, which Trump is expected to declare at 3pm Washington Time, would allow the government to marshal additional resources to combat the rapidly-spreading virus.

In a much criticised move, Trump on Wednesday, without prior warning to allies, slammed a 30-day ban on flights from Europe effective from Friday midnight. Britain and Ireland are exempted.

On Thursday, Trump brushed aside concerns about the encounter – the latest in a series of brushes the president has had with the highly-contagious disease.

Trump and the first family have resisted going into self-quarantine despite other lawmakers who came into contact with those testing positive for the disease going into voluntary isolation.

Other world leaders, too, are self-quarantining. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is in a voluntary 14-day quarantine after his wife, Sophie, tested positive for the disease.

BREAKING: 179 contacts on isolation for Coronavirus released in Lagos, Ogun

The Lagos State Government on Friday disclosed that all 179 people on isolation who had contact with the index case, an Italian who brought Coronavirus to Nigeria, have been released.

Of the 179 people who had contact with the index case, 40 of them were quarantined in Ogun State while THE remaining were monitored in Lagos State.

Lagos Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, at a news conference to give update on Coronavirus situation in the state on Friday said initially, 179 contacts with the Italian were traced and that since they had exceeded the mandatory 14 days isolation, they had been let go as none of them developed any symptom of the disease.

He said the index case still remained on admission, but noted that “he is perfectly well now, we are only keeping him because he still has some secretion of the virus. Test shows that anytime from now, he may be negative. If he is negative, we will conduct another test within 48 hours after and if he is still negative, we will set him free.

“We are close to discharging the index case, we want to be sure he poses no danger to the society anymore.”

On the Nigerian who was initially tested positive to Coronavirus for being in contact with the index case, Abayomi said he had now been tested negative twice and might have been released by now.

“His tests initially showed that he was positive to Coronavirus twice and now, he has tested negative to the virus twice on two consecutive tests carried out. The remaining contact in Ogun and Lagos State remain symptom-free and they have exceeded 14 days surveillance which means that we have been able to interrupt the transmission between the index case and others. The index case and its threat to Nigeria has been eliminated.

“Those isolated in Ogun State have been discharged, in Lagos, we will not follow up the contacts again because none of them has developed symptoms. We are discharging all,” he said.

On the four children and their teacher quarantined recently, the commissioner disclosed that they had been discharged as they all tested negative to the virus, likewise another man from the US who was earlier quarantined.

On the next move, Abayomi said “We believe that by being extremely aggressive, we will curtail the outbreak,” saying that the state government had sent more health personnel to the airport to assist the Federal medical team.

Nigeria has recorded success in its fight against the novel Coronavirus as its second confirmed positive case has now tested negative.

Nigeria recorded its first Coronavirus case in late February 2020, weeks after it was first detected in Wuhan, China in December 2019.
The first case was discovered when a 44-year-old Italian businessman landed in Lagos, the country’s most populous city.

Barely a week after the discovery of the first case, a second case of the deadly disease was recorded earlier this week. The second case had made contact with the Italian businessman in Ogun State.

Despite testing positive for the virus, the patient didn’t show any significant clinical symptoms. He was immediately placed in isolation and under clinical follow up at Infectious Disease Hospital, Lagos.

While speaking during a media briefing on Friday, March 13, the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire announced that the second case has now tested negative and will soon be allowed to go home.

“The contact of the index case is testing
negative for the virus now, meaning he has cleared the virus and will be allowed to go home,” Ehanire

Speaking on the index case, the minister said he’s progressing and is expected to be discharged soon too.

All other contacts of the Italian in Ogun and Lagos will remain in isolation and testing will be carried out on those not yet tested, including some in other states.

As of Thursday, March 12, a total of 43 people had been screened for the virus in Lagos, Ogun, Edo, FCT, Kano, Rivers, and Yobe, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

All tested negative except for the Italian and the second patient that has now recovered.
Over 5000 people have been killed by the virus which has spread to dozens of countries across the world, infecting over 137,000.
Over 70,000 infected people have also recovered from the virus.

  • Sultan of Sokoto blows hot, shares what kills Nigerians than coronavirus

Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, has charged the government to take urgent steps to improve the living standard of Nigerians, insisting that “hunger virus” is killing Nigerians more than the dreaded COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

The Sultan who spoke at the first quarterly meeting of Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC), in Abuja, on Thursday, said that even though, Coronavirus is killing hundreds of people across the world, “hunger virus” is the major killer of Nigerians.

He said: “There is a very serious virus that is killing Nigerians much higher than Coronavirus. That virus is hunger. There is hunger virus and it’s very serious. You need to go round the country, into the villages, into the towns and see how people are really struggling to survive.

“These are very serious issues, and as religious and community leaders, we must continue to talk about these issues, and also send our recommendations to the government and watch how the government will implement the recommendations.”

Sonorous singer, Celine Dion has postponed her concert billed to hold in Washington DC, despite testing negative for coronavirus.

Unlike many other artists who have called off their shows due to concerns about COVID-19, the Grammy-award songwriter took to her social media platforms to inform fans that it was because of a more routine virus — a common cold.

The ‘My heart will go on’ singer was scheduled to perform on Wednesday and Friday in DC and Pittsburgh respectively, amid her ongoing ‘Courage World Tour’.

Dion, however, announced some changes, saying the show dates are being deferred to November.
“We regret to inform you that, due to a cold, Celine Dion will be postponing two performances of her scheduled this week in Washington, D.C and Pittsburgh,” the statement read.

“The symptoms persisted into Tuesday, and her doctors instructed her to rest for the next 5-7 days. After testing her, the doctors concluded that her virus was not related to COVID-19.
“Performances of her Courage World Tour are expected to resume on Tuesday, March 24 in Denver, CO at the Pepsi Center as initially scheduled.”
In November 2019, she released a new album entitled ‘Courage’.
  • Kemi Adetiba speaks on coronavirus fears

Kemi Adetiba speaks on coronavirus fears

Award winning filmmaker and cinematographer, Kemi Adetiba has shared her concerns about coronavirus. The movie director took to her Twitter page on Thursday to speak on her fears — shortly after the coronavirus outbreak was declared pandemic.

Adetiba said, unlike New York City that has become “a mess” in recent times due to the disease, Nigeria is currently ahead with respect to the fight against the spread of COVID-19.

“Countries with better health care systems are struggling under the sheer weight and number of patients. Nigeria is ahead right now. Let’s do everything to stay that way,” she wrote.

“Me that I’m in Lekki Phase 1, ain’t going nowhere… The bulk of my immediate family is in New York. NY is a mess right now. Folks displaying symptoms are unable to get tested unless critical.

“We can’t afford to have the virus come in, hoping we can contain if it does. It’s laughable to think that we will handle a pandemic better than the US or UK if an outbreak happens. Respect the virus.

“If you have 9000 critical cases at once, what hospital will adequately take care of them? How many ventilators do we have in this country? Beds? Health care personnel?”

TheNewsGuru reports that ever since the coronavirus broke out in the Chinese city of Wuhan, more than 4000 lives have been lost globally to the disease with over 100,000 cases confirmed across over 100 countries.

“In the past two weeks, the number of cases of COVID19 outside China has increased 13-fold & the number of affected countries has tripled,” said the World Health Organization (WHO).
