  • Recession: ‘I stopped releasing in my wife to avoid her getting pregnant’

A 36-year-old seamstress, Sherifat Adetunji, on Friday pleaded at a Lagos Island Customary Court that her marriage should be dissolved on ground that her husband was no longer ejaculating inside her during sex.

The mother of two said that her 10-year-old marriage was blissful until five years ago when things started changing.

She lamented that her husband could go a year or more without making love to her and that when he did he would not ejaculate inside her.

“My husband has been starving me sexually, sometimes he will not touch me for a whole year and when he did, he would not release inside me.

“I have complained severally about my dissatisfaction over his attitude towards our sexual life, but has refused to change,” she said.

“My husband brought a man to pass the night in our house and that in the middle of the night they performed some rituals since then I have been growing lean.

“He did not show any concern about my state of health or why I was growing lean every day,” Sherifat said.

She, therefore, prayed the court to dissolve the marriage and give her the custody of their two children, Alia, 8, and Kismat, 5.

Her husband, Monsuru, 38, a trader, told the court that he thought his wife was happy in their marriage because they hardly quarrelled.

He said he was surprised when she packed out of the house and brought him to court for the dissolution of their marriage.

He admitted his sexual behaviour, saying that it was due to the current economic recession so as to prevent his wife from getting pregnant.

“I stopped making love to her regularly and releasing in her because of the present economic situation in the country so that she does not get pregnant.

“The man she said I brought home was a distant relation who had no place to pass the night.

“The reason why my wife is reducing in size is because she does not give herself rest of mind, she is always worried about one thing or the other,” he said.

He urged the court to dissolve the marriage as he was no longer interested in the marriage because she had packed out of their matrimonial home.

The Court President, Mr.Awos Awosola, said that marriage institution could only work if the two were in agreement.

“Marriage is for two people, not one; your wife should also have a say in the home.

“Since she has complained severally that you are starving her sexually, you should have made amends.

“If you do not want to get her pregnant you can always use a condom,” he said.

Awosola urged the two parties to maintain the peace and adjourned the case to Feb. 16 for further hearing.

“Whenever my wife and I are fighting, she will quickly grab my testicles and start twisting them.

“She will not leave my two balls until I beg and cry.

“Last week, she came to my room while I was fast asleep and grabbed my scrotum, saying I will not escape this time.

“It was after 20 minutes, I was able to regain consciousness; my two balls have suffered in the hands of my wicked wife.

“Please, dissolve the marriage because I may not be lucky next time,” he pleaded with the court.

“My wife went to my friend’s house and told him that I am sleeping with his wife which is not the truth.

He said that his wife always accused him of threatening her life.

“Anytime Balikis sees rat, cockroach or wall geckos in the house, she will be running helter-skelter, accusing me of sending them to attack her,” Adedapo said.

“My wife always fight with my tenants, friends and family; fighting is in her blood and she does not get tired,” he said

He begged the court to end the marriage that he was no longer in love with her and that he did not want to die now.

  • Court fixes Feb. 21 for ruling on ex-gov Shema, EFCC case

Justice Ibrahim Bako of the Katsina High Court, has fixed Feb. 21, for ruling on whether the court has jurisdiction to try the suit filed by the EFCC against former Katsina State governor, Ibrahim Shema.

TheNewsGuru.com recalls that Shema was arraigned by the EFCC before the court for alleged financial misappropriation during his tenure.

Shema was arraigned together with a former commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Sani Makana, a former ALGON Chairman, Lawal Dankaba and former permanent secretary, Lawal Safana.

The defence counsel, Joseph Daudu, SAN, has earlier filed a motion in the last sitting challenging the jurisdiction of the court to try his client.

During Tuesday’s proceedings, he raised same issues, saying that the court has no jurisdiction to entertain the case because the charge was filed by a Federal Government agency.

“It is a serious constitutional problem for a federal government agency to take over the state in prosecution of criminal cases,’’ he contended, and prayed the court to strike out the case for want of competence.

Daudu also filed another application seeking the court to restrain the EFCC from further arresting of his client.

However, the prosecution counsel, Mr Lateef Fagbemi, argued that the EFCC has right to try the case before the court.

He said that EFCC was a coordinating agency saddled with responsibility of investigation, enforcement and prosecution of matters relating to alleged financial crimes.

The Judge adjourned the case to Feb. 21, for ruling on the issue of jurisdiction raised by the defence.

However, there was a mild drama took place at the court premises when EFCC operatives attempted to re-arrest Shema, claiming that his administrative bail had lapsed, but his lawyers come to his defence.

He said that if the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was amenable to plea bargain, the defence would take the option.

The prosecuting counsel, Mr Johnson Ojogbane said he was not opposing the application.
