Barca’s interim board demand Coutinho sale

Barcelona’s interim board are ready to green light the sale of Philippe Coutinho next month.

The Brazil midfielder is regarded highly by coach Ronald Koeman, however ARA reports the board wish to immediately cash in.

The board’s president, Carles Tusquets, has pushed for wage reductions and with Coutinho among their highest and the squad’s overload of midfielders, the Brazilian is being put up for sale.

Coutinho was expected to leave Barca last summer after a loan with Bayern Munich, but his late season form with the Germans convinced Koeman to keep him on.

However, now a move away is in the works and a return to the Premier League is favoured by the former Liverpool star.

Arsenal and Tottenham were linked with the midfielder last summer.

La Liga: Barca hit by Coutinho injury blow

Midfielder Philippe Coutinho injured his left hamstring in the 3-1 home defeat to Real Madrid on Saturday, FC Barcelona said on Sunday.

This has effectively ruled him out of his side’s UEFA Champions League showdown away to Juventus on Wednesday.

A statement from Barca on Sunday said the Brazilian was unavailable due to the injury, without saying when he would return to action.

Coutinho, who is Barca’s most expensive ever signing, played the full 90 minutes during the match.

He missed a clear chance to put his side ahead in the “Classico” when the game was poised at 1-1, missing the target with a header from close range.

The Brazilian had been on a positive run of form in his first season back with the club after spending the last campaign on loan at Bayern Munich.

He has scored two goals and provided two assists in six competitive matches.

AS newspaper in Spain reported on Sunday that Coutinho could be out for three weeks.

He looks set to miss the game at Juventus plus Barca’s La Liga fixtures away to Alaves and at home to Real Betis.

The Brazilian could also miss the UEFA Champions League match at home to Dynamo Kyiv.

His injury could however be good news for Barca’s two other most expensive players, Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele.

They were both left out of the starting line-up against Real Madrid on Saturday.

EPL: Arsenal agree terms with Coutinho

Arsenal have struck personal terms with wantaway Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho.

Sport says he will arrive at The Emirates in a season-long loan deal – after a whistle-stop tour of their training ground.

The North Londoners have fixed up a deal with Nou Camp chiefs.

Coutinho, linked with Chelsea, is not wanted at Barca, who tried to offload him to Bayern Munich, where he spent this season on loan.

The Brazilian’s agent has fixed up a deal with Arsenal, according to reports.

But Coutinho, 28, will not sign terms until he has completed the season with Munich.

Barca make Coutinho proposal to Arsenal, but…

Arsenal have turned down an initial proposal from Barcelona for Philippe Coutinho.

Barca are desperate to find a buyer for Coutinho as they seek to balance their budget for the coming season.

Arsenal are keen, but not at the terms proposed by the Catalans.

Foot Mercato says Barca have offered Coutinho to Arsenal in exchange for Matteo Guendouzi plus €50m cash.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is keen to work with Coutinho, but Barca’s valuation of Guendouzi plus €50m is deemed too steep. Negotiations are expected to continue this week.

  • Coutinho, Malcom convinced me to reject Barca – Richarlison

Everton striker Richarlison has expanded on rejecting Barcelona when they came knocking in January.

The 23-year-old forward – who arrived for a £40m fee in the summer of 2018 under Marco Silva – was the subject of reported interest from the La Liga champions in January and claims he rejected the opportunity to move to Spain.

Richarlison has scored 13 goals for Everton this season and cited the difficulties of compatriots Malcom and Philippe Coutinho since joining Barcelona as one reason he was reluctant to leave Goodison Park.

“At the time, I think [Luis] Suarez was still injured, they needed a striker there,” the Brazilian told Canal Pilhado.

“But that’s what I said, things didn’t go forward, I was also a little moved, but that’s part of football. I’m happy here at Everton and that’s what I did. I think I made the right decision.

“It was in the middle of the league. I was doing well at Everton, I was in all the call ups from [Brazil national team boss] Tite. And like it or not it weighed a bit too, because I saw many Brazilians going to Barcelona and not settling.

“I saw Malcom going there and he only played a few games and then moved to Zenit. Coutinho, he moved to Bayern. So it weighs, like it or not.

“We’re playing well here, we’re going to the national team and suddenly you go to a club – maybe you don’t get an adequate adaptation, you go to the bench, sometimes you don’t go to a game, it weighs. So I think, as I said, I made the right decision.”

  • Barca inform Liverpool they can have Coutinho if…

Barcelona have informed Liverpool they can have Philippe Coutinho back this summer.

It’s emerged Coutinho is willing to take a pay-cut to rejoin Liverpool in the coming months.

La Liga giant Barcelona are looking to offload Coutinho this summer and a move back to the Premier League has been mooted by his agent Kia Joorabchian.

The Brazilian has even contacted Reds boss Jurgen Klopp to push through a return to Anfield.

Mundo Deportivo says Barca have informed Liverpool they can sign Coutinho – but only in an outright sale.

Barca do not wish to discuss loan terms.

Barca committed to a fee rising to €145m to sign Coutinho in January 2018.

  • Mourinho fears Coutinho may upset locker room at Tottenham

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has been forced to rethink their push for Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho.

Coutinho is available for around £80million or a £9m season-long loan but he would want more than the £200,000-a-week Spurs pay their top-bracket stars including Harry Kane.

That would break Tottenham’s wage ceiling.

Mundo Deportivo says Mourinho is not prepared to do that and upset the rest of his stars, who would demand pay hikes.

Spurs might have to fork out around £9m for next season to take the 27-year-old Brazilian.

Although that would be a figure Spurs bean counters would be agreeable with, Mourinho feels the talisman’s wages would be a huge stumbling block.

  • La Liga: Barca to make U-turn on Coutinho sale

Barcelona management are leaning towards keeping hold of Philippe Coutinho.

The midfielder, currently on-loan with Bayern Munich, is

wanted by a raft of English clubs, with Chelsea leading the race.

But the intervention of coach Quique Setien has seen Barca pulling back from selling Coutinho.

Setien believes he can work with the midfielder next season and would be happy if he was to stay.

As such, reports Mundo Deportivo, Barca have hiked up their asking price and are insisting Coutinho will only leave for an offer of €100m.

  • La Liga: Barca inform Coutinho of 3 exit options

Philippe Coutinho is facing three options if he’s to leave Barcelona this summer.

Sport says Barcelona will allow Coutinho to complete a permanent transfer away from the Camp Nou if they can recoup £80million.

The report adds that due to the potentially huge financial implications of the coronavirus pandemic, the Catalan giants may be willing to drop this figure to as little as £65m.

The second option available to Coutinho is he’s allowed to remain on loan at Bayern Munich for another season.

The final option is he’s allowed to go out on loan to another club, however unlike Bayern, this side will be obliged to put up the cash and make the deal permanent at the end of the season.

Chelsea and Newcastle United are among Premier League clubs in contact with Coutinho’s minders.

  • I am an Arsenal fan, Coutinho’s agent hints at EPL return

Philippe Coutinho’s agent, Kia Joorabchian, has said that the player “would love a return to the Premier League,” one day, while admitting he is a supporter of Arsenal.

However, Joorabchian insists he will not influence which English club Coutinho chooses.

The Brazilian midfielder is presently on loan at Bayern Munich from Barcelona.

The Bundesliga champions are not expected to make the deal permanent, which means the 27-year-old might be on the move again this summer.

Coutinho, who had previously played for Liverpool, is attracting attention from Chelsea and Arsenal.

“The fact that I’m an Arsenal supporter is not a secret,” Joorabchian told Sky Sports News.

“I don’t have any preference where the players go. I don’t try to push someone to one club or another. Everything is a possibility.

“The Premier League is something that he has always enjoyed playing in, and loved playing in, and would probably love to come back and play in.”
