We drink water from same stream with cows – C/River traditional ruler

Mr. Linus Odey, Paramount Ruler of Bekwarra Local Government Area of Cross River, says his Akwarinyin- Abu community and 15 others drink water from the same stream with cows.

He stated this when the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Sandy Onor campaign team met with him and 16 clan heads at Akwarinyin-Abu near Abuochiche in Bekwarra Local Government Area on Tuesday.

The Monarch, who also bemoaned the state of the road that connected the communities, said it took three days for them to get the council headquarters during the rainy season.

Odey pointed out that the communities lacked social amenities ranging from water, health facilities, and road that should enhance the living standard of humans.

According to him, “any aspiration that does not change the life of the people is a wasted investment.

“I am happy that you know that the road is one of our major problems, just so you know that it takes us three days to connect the local government headquarters during the rains.

“No hospital, no road, no boreholes; no dividends of democracy in this community in the last seven years.”

Earlier, the PDP governorship candidate had described the road as an “eyesore” that a responsible government ought to have taken care of for the benefit of inhabitants of the 16 communities.

Onor promised that if voted into office, his administration would construct the raod within two years.

“What we have seen of this road is nothing we can draw satisfaction from.

“It is supposed to be a rural road but of course, it is nothing less of what the present administration has reduced this state to.

“My government will not be known for making bogus promises; we can only promise what we can do and not we can’t do,” he stated.

Police arrest man for presenting stolen cow for father-in-law’s burial rites

The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested one Ikenna Ogbonna Ota, a native of Azuoto Okpoitumo community in Abakaliki Local Government Area of the state, for allegedly stealing and presenting a stolen cow for the burial rites of his late father-in-law.

According to reports, Ota visited the family house of his in-laws on Friday, December 9, 2022, for the presentation of materials for the burial of their late father. He had come with a female cow he allegedly stole from his community to them for the ceremony. Unfortunately for him, the owner of the stolen native cow, Thomas Agbo, who came to sympathize with the family of the deceased, was able to identify the cow being presented by the son-in-law as his missing cow and raised an alarm.

Agbo said he went for a routine check on the cow in the bush four days before the burial date of his neighbor’s father-in-law but could not see the cow where it was tied. He explained that he was surprised to see the stolen cow at Ebia Unuphu Community where he went to commiserate with the family of Okemini Oyibe. He said that he saw the cow being tied with some Fulani cows for a presentation for the rites.

“Ikenna Ogbonna Ota is my neighbour. I knew his father-in-law was dead and the burial was slated for 9th of December. Days before the ceremony, one of my cows went missing. All efforts by my children to find it were not successful until I coincidentally saw it being presented at Ebia Unuhu by IKenna for the burial rites of his father-in-law,” he said

When interrogated, the suspect claimed that he did not steal the cow. He alleged that he bought it at the sum of N110,000 (One hundred and ten thousand naira only) from a man known as ‘Mr. No Time’ at Azu-Ebonyi, Amachi Unuphu, a neighboring village to Azuoto Okpuitumo.

The police say that the suspect would be charged to court after the investigation.

Ban on Fulani cow meat stands in South-East – IPOB replies Northern Coalition

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB has reacted to the threat by the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) that the North will stop engagement of commercial activities and transporting of North-made products to the South East of Nigeria.

The CNG this last week had reacted to IPOB statement that there shall be no slaughtering of cows in the region.

In a statement released by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, IPOB said there were enough evidence that some herdsmen had sex with their cows, noting that it is an abomination in Igboland to eat beef from such animals.

It also stated that the ban on cows from herders would prevent raping of their women and other evil deeds perpetrated by the herders.

TheNewsGuru.com, (TNG) recalls that IPOB had issued a statement banning the consumption of Fulani cow meat in the South East from April 2022.

IPOB has declared war after Fulani cow ban – Arewa Forum

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has said that it is a declaration of war for the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to ban the singing of the National Anthem and the transportation of livestock to the south-east.

Emmanuel Yawe, the National Publicity Secretary of the ACF, was commenting on the plan by the Amalgamated Union of Foodstuff and Cattle Dealers of Nigeria to ban the movement of foodstuffs from the north to the south-east.

The ACF noted that the order by IPOB was unnecessary as Nigeria was not at war, enjoining all well-meaning Nigerians to call the Biafra agitators to order.

Yawe observed that it would be difficult for the forum to appeal to the union this time around.

He described as justifiable the fear and concerns of the Amalgamated Union of Foodstuff & Cattle Dealers of Nigeria following the threat by the IPOB.

According to him, “We have appealed to this union in the past when their members were attacked and some killed and their property destroyed due to no fault of theirs.”

Yawe explained that at that time, they mounted a blockade and stopped the supply of foodstuffs to the East, saying that prices skyrocketed and there was an outcry and due to appeals by the ACF, they lifted the blockade.

“The concerns of the union and their fears are justified. Somebody should call IPOB to order. We are still one country and not at war. Their pronouncements amount to an open declaration of war,” he said.

Cow escapes from abattoir, remains on the loose one month after

More than a month after escaping while being unloaded at a slaughterhouse, a cow weighing 725.7478kg is still roaming the streets of Johnston, about 10 miles west of Providence in the American State of Rhode Island.

Police said Wednesday in a Facebook post that although they’ve been keeping loose track of its whereabouts, they can’t chase it, so their goal is to keep it contained to wooded areas where it can’t endanger drivers or itself, TODAY has reported.

The medium reports that on February 4, after the animal first bolted when a wholesaler lost control of it outside Rhode Island Beef & Veal in Johnston, a startled Uber driver reported seeing it hoofing its way through an intersection as he was waiting for a traffic light to change.

It later was sighted in Providence, where local authorities contacted the Department of Environmental Management and animal control. Neither agency had the resources to capture and transport the animal, according to a police report.

Authorities are urging anyone who sees it to alert police and not attempt to corral it themselves.” Stay clear of the steer,” they posted. “Please leave the capture to professionals.”

In a statement to the medium, a Farm Sanctuary spokesperson said that many times when a farm animal is found roaming the streets, the animal has “likely escaped a traumatic situation propelled by their strong desire to live.”

“They are likely exhausted, hungry, and afraid,” the spokesperson said.

“They may also be severely distrustful of people since they have likely come from the animal agriculture industry, which treats animals like unfeeling commodities instead of the emotional beings they are.

“Chances are these courageous animals have been wandering with no access to shelter or food for days, weeks, or even months,” Farm Sanctuary added.
