DAVID IMOH: Police deflates faceless DSS officer write-up

Lagos State Police Command has debunked a write-up making the rounds on social media, by a faceless DSS officer, claiming a cover-up by the Police in the unfortunate lynching of David Imoh on May 12, 2022.

In a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, the police explained that the Divisional Police Officer, Maroko Division, arrived at the crime scene promptly, arrested four suspects and rescued two persons under attack

The statement reads: “The attention of the Lagos State Police Command has been drawn to a write-up making the rounds on social media by a faceless DSS officer, claiming a cover-up by the Police in the unfortunate lynching of David Imoh on May 12, 2022.

“The Command wishes to debunk this write-up as nothing but a cunningly-crafted work of fiction ill-intended by some unpatriotic persons and war mongers to cause disaffection, and possibly ethnic war, amongst Nigerians.

“The Lagos State Police Command again confirms that the Divisional Police Officer, Maroko Division arrived at the active crime scene, promptly arrested four suspects and rescued the other two persons under attack. The numerous observers of the arrests, some of whom made videos,

“It is therefore ridiculous, frivolous and laughable that the suspects were allegedly paid a miserly One Hundred Thousand Naira each to admit and take the fall for murder.

“Further investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department led to the arrest of two other suspects. All six suspects were paraded before the press by the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Abiodun Alabi, fdc, mnim, psc on May 20, 2022.

“A seventh suspect, Usman Abubakar, aged 22 (not the mastermind), who literally poured petrol on the victim, was eventually arrested the next day. This brings the total number of arrested suspects to seven.

“Furthermore, not only has the State Director of DSS in Lagos State confirmed to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police that the alleged officer was unknown to them, he equally confirmed that the DSS neither arrested nor handed over any suspect to the police.

“CP Alabi, therefore, urges Nigerians to disregard the write-up as a mischievous attempt by fifth columnists to cause trouble within the country.”

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) recalls that six days after David was lynched over N100 change from a commercial motorcycle {Okada} rider, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, banned their operations in Ikeja, Surulere, Eti-Osa, Lagos Mainland, Lagos Island, and Apapa.

Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, have rejected the sum of N500,000 offered as bribe, after they intercepted a bus-load of illicit drugs at the Mile 2 area of Lagos State.

A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said preliminary investigations revealed that the drugs were loaded in a Lagos colour LT bus, with the registration number AGL 205 YD belonging to one Alhaji, better known as General in Mushin.

Hundeyin said: “A member of the drug syndicate confessed that they picked up the consignment, which has a street value of about N10 million, at Alaba Rago around 10.00pm on Saturday for shipment to Mushin.

“Luck, however, ran out on them when RRS officials on patrol stopped the bus on a routine check at about 0400hrs today.

“Another member of the syndicate, Oluwole Omojuyitan, aged 40, who had initially escaped the scene on a bike, was arrested by the operatives after he came back with a sum of N500,000 to bribe the officers to release the drugs and suspects.

“Other arrested members of the gang include Ojukwu Omanogho aged 36 and Hope Jumbo aged 40.”

The Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alabi, while commending the Commander RRS, CSP Olaýinka Egbeyemi, and the team have since directed that the suspects and exhibits be transferred to the Command’s headquarters for further investigations.

Lagos police seal Havillah Event Centre over fuel distribution as souvenirs at party

Lagos Safety Commission and the Rapid Response Squad on Saturday sealed Havillah Event Centre, Oniru, following the usage of petrol as souvenirs at a party.

This sealing off took place as the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alabi, ordered the arrest of the host of the said party and all persons involved in it.

Lagos police spokesman, Adekunle Ajisebutu, made this known in a statement on Saturday, describing it as reprehensible.

The police, in its statement, said the action was regrettable and endangered the lives of the people of Lagos.

“It’s regrettable that in spite of series of warnings and sensitisations carried out by the Police and other relevant government agencies, some individuals could be handling such combustible substance in a public place in total disregard to the safety of lives and properties.

“Still concerned about the safety, and protection of lives and properties of citizens, the Lagos State Police Command once again appeals to citizens to avoid this kind of condemnable act in the name of generosity. Although the event centre where the distribution of the souvenirs took place has been located and subsequently sealed, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alabi, fdc, mnim, has in addition, ordered the arrest of all persons involved in this regrettable and reprehensible act,” the statement asserted.

Lagos State Information Commissioner, Gbenga Omotoso, explained that the state’s safety commission was investigating a viral video showing kegs of petrol handed out as souvenirs at the event centre.

The commissioner had also said it was dangerous to indulge in such practice and therefore advised Lagosians to avoid actions that can lead to loss of lives and property.

The kegs with different colours were branded, ‘The Erelu Okin Foundation Installation Party’ and had the photo of a fair-skinned lady emblazoned on them.
