    New CP assumes duty in Edo, declares war on cultism

    The new Commissioner of Police (CP) for Edo, Funsho Adeboye, officially assumed duty in Benin on Tuesday, with a warning to cult members disturbing the peace of the state to leave or face the full weight of the law.

    The CP also warned Officers and Men of the command to stay away from corruption and other infractions while carrying out their duties.

    Adeboye, who was received by top officers of the command, said his administration would be propelled by democratic policing and fear of God.

    He said “cultism is a dangerous trend which we are ready to curb.

    “The Inspector General of Police has resolved that this menace of cultism should be curbed without reservation and Gov. Godwin Obaseki is
    on the same page with the police’s resolve on cultism.”

    He added that the command under his watch, would not not fold its arms and allow cult groups to dent the image of this administration.

    “My main priority as commissioner of police in Edo is to put an end to cultism through lawful means,” he said.

    He advised parents and guardians to warn their children and wards to desist from cultism as those disturbing the peace of the public
    were going to be apprehended and diligently prosecuted.

    “I want to also call for the cooperation of the judiciary so that any person arrested for contravening the law would not go unpunished.

    “I also want to call on the public to give useful information to the police to nip the crime in the bud.

    “I want to call on journalists as well, to support the police in the fight against crime and criminality.”

    Police IG deploys CP Adegoke to Lagos

    The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, has deployed Commissioner of Police, (CP) Fayoade Adegoke to take over as new CP,  Police Command in Lagos.

    The redeployment is contained in a signal signed by the Force Secretary, AIG Olanrewaju Oladimeji.

    Recall that before his new posting,  Adegoke was in charge of Armament at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

    While serving in that capacity, he was sent for a  course at the Nigerian Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru-Jos, Plateau, where he graduated among 96 distinguished Nigerians as Executive Course 45.

    Adegoke will take over from Mr Idowu Owohunwa, who had been promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police, in charge of the Federal Criminal Investigation Department, Alagbon Ikoyi, Lagos.

    CP meets traditional rulers over communal clash in Abuja

    The Acting Commissioner of Police (CP) in the the Federal  Capital Territory  (FCT), Mr Ahmed Musa has met with leaders of Hausa and Gbagyi communities in Gwarinpa following a recent clash in the area.

    A statement by SP Josephine Adeh, the Police Public Relations Officer in the FCT on Monday in Abuja, said the one person died in the clash and another hospitalised.

    She said the meeting was necessary due to the tension generated along 3rd Avenue at the Gwarinpa axis because of the squabble between some Hausa and Gbagyi youths on Saturday.

    The command spokesperson said a suspect had been arrested and currently assisting the Police to ascertain the immediate and remote causes of the fracas.

    Adeh said the meeting deliberated on ways of restoring peace between the communities and how to keep the youths in check, as well as identify bad elements and oust them from the area.

    She said the acting CP urged the traditional rulers to encourage the youths to imbibe peace and pursue grievances through legally approved channels rather than taking laws into their hands.

    According to her, the command has intensified surveillance patrols in the areas to forestall escalation of the clash.

    Plateau Assembly will remain sealed – CP

    The  Commissioner of Police in Plateau, Mr. Batholemew Onyeka,  said that the state House of Assembly would remain sealed till security threats within and around the assembly complex were tackled.

    Onyeka stated this on Tuesday in Jos while addressing newsmen on why it was sealed by security personnel since April 5.

    The commissioner said that the command has intelligence report on impending attack on the complex that may lead to breakdown of law and order.

    He said that the command, through social media, got the information that Abok Ayuba, the former speaker impeached on Oct. 28, 2021, got judgment in his favour to be reinstated.

    “The members had an unrestricted and unfettered access to the assembly complex which is a clear testimony that the assembly was unsealed before that judgment was passed.

    “But we got information that some mischievous persons who, based on intelligence mobilised to ensure that they gain unrestricted access by all  means to the assembly complex.

    “I took the decision to seal the assembly complex to ensure that the State House of Assembly is safe and that neither life nor property is lost,”he said.

    Onyeka said that based on the intelligence at his disposal, he invited members of the assembly with their lawyers to his office.

    He said he advised the lawmakers to avoid anything that would lead to breakdown of law and order hence, the deployment of policemen to the complex.

    “It will be a negligence and dereliction of duty on my part as the commissioner of police if having gotten the intelligence and fails to do that for which I’m here to do.

    “The deployment of police personnel to the assembly wasn’t targeted at any group or persons but to maintain peace, protect lives and property.

    The commissioner appealed to the people of Plateau to avoid being used by any person or group of persons, to achieve their self-serving and selfish ambitions.

    He urged all law abiding citizens to go about their lawful businesses and the warring parties, to seek peaceful ways of settling their differences in accordance with the rule of law.

    Ayuba who was impeached was reinstated by the Plateau High Court on April 3.

    He resumed duty on Tuesday, April 4, and presided over the assembly plenary.

    Ayuba’s successor, Yakubu Sanda, and 12 others filed an appeal and stay of execution on April 4.

    Both Sanda and Ayuba are laying claims to the speakership of the assembly.

    Ayuba while relying on his reinstatement, Sanda is holding unto the stay of execution.

    Police IG orders deployment of 7 CPs to states, formations

    The Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Usman Baba, has ordered the deployment of seven Commissioners of Police (CPs) to various police commands in states and formations across the country.

    The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

    He said the deployment followed the recent completion of the Senior Executive Course 44 at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) by some senior officers.

    Adejobi said the newly deployed CP are: Sadiq Abubakar, FCT, Frank Mba, Border Patrol, Force Headquarters and Arungwa Udo, Department of Finance and Account (DFA), Force Intelligence Bureau, Force Headquarters.

    He said others were Bardaru Lawal, General Investigations, Force Criminal Investigations Department Annex, Kaduna, and Suleiman Yusuf, Admin, Research and Planning, Force Headquarters.

    Adejobi said Ebong Ebong,  Admin DFA, Force Headquarters and Babaji Sunday, Commandant, Police College Maiduguri were also deployed.

    He said the I-G had charged the newly posted officers to hit the ground running in the areas of crime-fighting, public cooperation and safety.

    Adejobi said the police boss also called for support and cooperation from the public to the new police helmsmen to enable them perform optimally on their mandate.

    CRS CP promises adequate readiness for peaceful campaigns

     

    The Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Sule Balarabe has said that adequate preparation has been made to ensure peaceful conduct of political campaigns and the 2023 elections in the state.

    He gave the assurance yesterday while hosting executives of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Cross River State Council on a courtesy visit to the command headquarters in Calabar.

    “2023 elections will turn out to be the most Peaceful. We have fine-tune ways to reduce and checkmate political violence an d other offenses, we will not be partial. The police has treats analysis of areas where political thuggery will be common.”

    The New CP who expressed positivity noted that with Cross River being Nigeria’s tourist destination, it was pertinent to deepen collaboration, professionalism and voluntary information network to ease communication hazards in policing to support in flushing out criminal elements in the State.

    Balarabe also assured that, under his watch, “the State Command will conscientiously operate on the principles of justice, equity and fairness, as enshrined in the laws of the land.”

    The Police boss also assured media practitioners of accessibility to adequate security Information when needed.

    He sought enhanced and robust partnership from members of the public, existing institutions and corporate bodies towards the onerous tasks of safeguarding lives and property for all.

    While welcoming the CP to Cross River, the State NUJ Chairman, Nsa Gill, said the visit was necessary, given the important roles the two bodies play in the society, especially with the 2023 elections around the corner.

    He assured the CP that media practitioners, under his leadership, would continue to adhere strictly to ethical standards at all times in the discharge of their duties.

    The NUJ Chairman used the event to invite the CP to the forthcoming NUJ Media Week.

    He said the Media Week would draw guests from The Who’s Who in the country, notably, the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, erstwhile Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, among others.

    The media is crucial to sustaining peace, security in the country – CP Effiom

    The Nigeria Police Force, (NPF) has posited that the fourth realm of the government, the media is crucial in promoting peace and security in the country.

    The commissioner of police in Jigawa state, CP Effiom Emanual Ekot stated this when he paid a familiarization visit to the state Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) correspondent chapel office in Dutse.

    He said the visit was to strengthen the cordial and working relationship between police and  journalists in  the state.

    According to him, “journalists are critical stakeholders in establishing and promoting peace and security in the nation.”

    Ekot urged the members of the chapel to keep up with their good work and also to sustain their good working relationship with the security personnel.

    He added that the media needs to put up their best in this critical time of election in the country.

    The CP then urged the members of the chapel to keep up with their good work and also maintain their good working relationship with the police, especially in this critical time of the campaign and other election activities for a sustainable peace and stability.

    Responding, the chairman of the correspondent chapel Comrade Muhammad Zangina said the cordial relationship between the working journalist in the state had contributed immensely in making Jigawa state one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria.

    Comrade Zangina expressed the appreciation of the chapel members for the CP visit, which he described as a great honour and a milestone in strengthening the cordial relationship between the duo.

    The Chapel chairman then promised to continue collaborating with the new CP in the area of promoting public consciousness on security and also play their expected role in supporting a peaceful political campaign and the forthcoming 2023 general election.

    Banditry: Gov. Matawalle lauds Police, hosts retiring CP

    Gov. Bello Matawalle has lauded the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for its active role in tackling banditry and kidnapping in parts of Zamfara.

    Matawalle made commendation on Saturday while hosting the former Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ayuba Elkanah who retired on Aug. 11 after 32 years of service.

    He said that the Zamfara Command of the NPF under Elkanah restored law and order in most parts of the state that had hitherto been under bandits’ attacks for several years.

    ‘The measures we have put in place with your active support have helped significantly to reduce bandits’ attacks in various parts of the state.

    “‘Despite some isolated incidents here and there, the state is progressively returning to normal,” he said.

    According to Matawalle, on behalf of the people and Government of Zamfara State, I convey to you our most profound appreciation for all you have done during your tenure as Commissioner of Police to improve the security situation of our state.

    ‘As I stated during the reception organized for you by the Zamfara State Police Command two days ago, for those of us who have worked along with you for about a year now, your exit from service has come to us with mixed feelings.

    “While we rejoice with you for a patriotic and committed service to our fatherland for 32 years, we are, however, going to miss you dearly.

    “We are going to miss you for your commendable service as our commissioner of police.

    “We are going to miss you for the love you have for our state and its people,” Matawalle said.

    The governor commended Elkanah for the talent, vast experience, and strategies he deployed to combat the “over-decade-old banditry in the state.

    “We also appreciate your faithfulness, support, and cooperation, which significantly contributed to all the gains we have made in the fight against banditry within the past year.

    “The successes recorded with your support are pretty evident.

    ‘You now have a lasting place in our people’s hearts and minds due to your exceptional performance and impressive attributes.

    The governor said Elkanah had earned the respect of the people and the government of Zamfara.

    The governor assured the retired police officer that Zamfara would always remain his home

    “We expect you to continue contributing in every way you can to the progress of the state.

    “Your retirement from the Nigeria Police Force indeed calls for celebration.
    The governor prayed to Almighty Allah to grant Mr. Elkanah good health, protection, and guidance in his feature endeavour.

    In emotionally laden remarks, Mr. Elkanah thanked Gov. Matawalle for several support to the Police Command in its effort to restore law and order in the state.

    He commended the traditional rulers and all the people for their various support to the command under his watch.
    Elkanah said Zamfara remained a home to him and his family.

    Police IG orders CPs to tighten security around schools

    The Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Usman Baba, has ordered all Commissioners of Police (CPs), Tactical Commanders and their supervising Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) to tighten security around schools and colleges.

    The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, made this known in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.

    He said the I-G had also ordered the review of police personnel and operational assets deployments to schools and colleges around nationwide.

    Adejobi said that the I-G gave the order on Tuesday, at a meeting of the Force Management Team in Abuja.

    He said the order followed a review of the general security in the country, including the security of schools and colleges as a result of some isolated incidences reported in some schools.

    Adejobi said the decision was to ensure the protection of schools and colleges, particularly boarding schools, tertiary institutions, and its campuses in areas prone to security breaches around the country.

    He said the I-G had called on CPs, Tactical Commanders and their supervising AIGs to explore all available options and think outside the box to boost security in and around schools, colleges, and student based communities.

    Adejobi said the I-G had also directed detectives/operatives of the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID) and the Force Intelligence Bureau (FIB) to ensure sustained surveillance and intelligence gathering activities within various school environments.

    According to him, the Police Airwing has also been directed to extend its aerial patrols to the six geo-political zones of the country.

    He said the I-G had pledged that all hands would be on deck to ensure a safe environment for all pupils and students in various schools and colleges within the country.

    Police Special Fraud Unit gets new CP

    The Inspector-General of Police (IG), Mr Usman Baba, has appointed CP Nneka Anyasinti as the new Commissioner of Police, Special Fraud Unit (SFU), Lagos.

    SP Eyitayo Johnson, the spokesman for SFU, said this in a statement on Thursday.

    Johnson said Anyasinti took over from CP Anderson Bankole, who retired from the force at the age of 60.

    He said Anyasinti has assumed duty as the second female and 27th commissioner of police in charge of the unit.

    The spokesman said the new commissioner of police in a meeting with the personnel of the unit, charged them to be professional and diligent in the investigation and prosecution of suspects.

    He said the CP also charged them to respect the rights of suspects and cautioned against “needless/over detention of suspects with or without a court order’’.

    Anyasinti is an alumna of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife and University of Nigeria, Nsukka; where she obtained B.A. English (Education) and M.ED Administration/Supervision respectively.

    She enlisted into the police on March 3, 1990 as a Cadet ASP and was trained at the elite Police Academy Annex, Kaduna.

    Anyasinti had worked at several police formations, including Zone II and Lagos Criminal Investigation Department, Commandant, Police Training School, Ibadan, Marketing Manager Police Cooperative and AC Criminal Investigation Department, Airport Command.

    She was also an Area Commander, Area G Ogba Lagos State, as well as DC Admin. Airport Police Command, Ikeja.

    Anyasinti was also second in command and in charge of Administration at the Police Command, Delta, before her elevation and re-deployment to the SFU.

    The CP is a recipient of the “United Nations Medal in Support of World Peace”
