REVEALED! Why NAF evacuation jet crashed in Niger

The Chief of Air Staff, CAS, Hassan Abubakar has revealed the major cause that led to the crash of its evacuation jet in Niger state.

The CAS who revealed this on Tuesday vowed that the air troops attached to Operation Hadrin Daji and Operation Whirl Punch, despite the crash, will continue operations in both Niger and North West region of the country against bandits.

He attributed the crashes to seasonal challenges which are weather conditions, the development he said hampers the striking capabilities of its officers during operations.

Abubakar stated this at NAF headquarters in Abuja when Niger State governor, Umar Bago, paid him a condolence visit over the death of his pilots and some soldiers.

According to him, on our own part, we are not folding our arms, we are just living with the challenges.

“The ideal thing is to strive for zero incidents and accidents in any operational environment.

“We’re striving for that, it is virtually impossible to achieve but then, you strive for it, so that at the end of the day, you minimise whatever happens. Or when it happens, the effect is significantly abated.

“We are putting a lot of initiatives in place to check this. For example, we have adopted the safety management systems in all our operations. We have also adopted operational risk management procedures among others. Going forward, we are striving to achieve zero incidents in all our operations. That challenge we’re addressing.

“We also have other challenges which are seasonal. For example, the rain has come and there is a route cloud, this hampers what we can see especially in terms of our strike capabilities and (ISI) that is the system intelligence surveillance and renaissance mission.

“Also, when the harmattan comes, it also has effects on our operations. These are challenges we live with and we hope that sometimes you understand when our operations are hampered or impeded by some of these challenges.”

Abubakar said as long as they operate and fly in order to degrade the enemies, incidents or accidents cannot be ruled out, adding that the important thing is to ensure the problem is reduced to the barest minimum.

He stated: “As you are all aware, Niger state and indeed other states of the North West region are plagued by the menace of banditry, insurgency and other security challenges.

” These challenges have continued to threaten the peace and security and well-being of the people.

“I want to assure you that the Nigerian Air Force and the Armed Forces of Nigeria will remain committed, dedicated and undaunted in our efforts at eradicating these security challenges being perpetrated by these non-state actors.

“In this light, the Nigerian Air Force has continued to increase its air power commitment in both Operation Hadrin Daji and Operation Whirl Punch which directly impact the activities of these criminal elements in Niger State and the North West region as a whole.

“Our approach now is to intensify our activities in tandem with the land forces to completely eradicate all these criminal elements, to at least significantly degrade their combat capabilities.

“This is also in tandem with my philosophy which is to transform the NAF into an agile and resilient force which is capable of meeting all the air power demands of our national security in all operational environments.

Despite all our commitment, our dedication and efforts we have put in, to eradicate these security challenges, we have a couple of issues that bother us which one of them is the crash of our airplane yesterday(Monday).

“The fact is that, as long as we operate, and fly airplanes, there would be incidents and accident. In fact, the volume of incidents and accidents is directly proportional to the rate of operations.

“You would have also observed that in the past couple of years, let’s say five, six seven years, we have inducted quite a few platforms in the Nigerian Air Force and the rate of our flying activities have significantly improved.”

  • Five hard facts about imploded Titan submersible

Five hard facts about imploded Titan submersible

U .S. Coast Guard Rear Admiral John Mauger on Thursday confirmed that Titan, a deep-sea submersible carrying five people on a voyage to the century-old wreck of the Titanic, imploded.

His announcement ended a five-day multinational search for the vessel.

Here are five quick facts about the submersible.

    1. The Titan was roughly the size of a minivan with only enough room for five adults.

    2. All five adventurers; Stockton Rush, Hamish Harding, Shahzada Dawood, Suleman Dawood, and Paul-Henri Nargeolet, have been declared dead

    3. The Titan lost contact with its surface support ship on Sunday morning about an hour, 45 minutes into what should have been a two-hour dive to the world’s most famous shipwreck.

    4. Search teams and support personnel from the U.S., Canada, France and Britain had spent days scanning thousands of square miles of open seas with planes and ships for any sign of the Titan.

    5. A robotic diving vehicle deployed from a Canadian ship discovered a debris field from the submersible Titan on Thursday morning on the seabed some 1,600 feet (488 meters) from the bow of the Titanic, 2 1/2 miles (4 km) beneath the surface, in a remote corner of the North Atlantic

Eighteen passengers were killed in an auto crash on Friday at Zakirai town on Kano-Ringim Road in Gabasawa Local Government Area of Kano state.

Twelve other persons were also injured in the crash while five escaped unhurt, FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Mr. Ibrahim Abdullahi, has said.

Some of the corpses were given mass burial at the accident scene, while others were handed over to their relatives.

Abdullahi confirmed in a statement issued by the sector’s spokesman, Mr Abdullahi Labaran that the accident involved two commercial vehicles.

“We received a call about the accident at about 8:35 p.m. on Friday and dispatched our personnel to the scene to rescue the victims,’’ Abdullahi said.

He blamed the accident on excessive speeding, dangerous driving, and overloading which led to a head-on collision and the bursting into flames of one of the vehicles.

“The accident involved a total of 35 passengers in two buses, out of which 18 were burnt beyond recognition while 12 others sustained serious injuries,’’ he said.

Ibrahim said the injured victims were taken to Murtala Mohammed General Hospital, Kano.

He advised motorists to avoid overspeeding, overloading, wrongful overtaking, dangerous driving, and any infraction that could lead to road crashes.

The sector commander expressed regret at the magnitude of avoidable road crashes recorded in Kano State in the past week.

During a visit to the crash scene on Saturday, he warned motorists, particularly intercity and inter-state drivers to desist from overloading, excessive speeding, wrongful overtaking and other traffic violations.

Abdullahi assured that the FRSC would intensify public enlightenment and undertake stringent patrol interventions, including operation of mobile courts to stem the rising tide of intercity auto crashes.
