2023: APC in turbulent aircraft bound to crash soon – Wike

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is in a turbulent aircraft that is bound to crash before arriving its destination.

The Governor, who also acknowledged that his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would also face turbulence when choosing its 2023 presidential candidate, however, said the challenges of PDP would not lead to disintegration.

Speaking on African Independent Television (AIT) on Thursday, Wike explained that only a courageous person with the capacity and vision to salvage the country would be supported to fly the presidential ticket of the PDP in the 2023 general election.

He said though the party was yet to decide the geographical zone of its candidate, such person must have the capacity to confront will be one who can confront the tactics of APC.

He said the process to determine who PDP will field as its presidential candidate will be a turbulent one.

He said: “Let nobody come and tell you that in arriving at a presidential candidate that it will be easy. No way, it can never be. You know, there are two types of turbulences. There is turbulence that will not have a crash, which is a normal turbulence. There is turbulences that there is likely to be a crash.

“Our own turbulence in PDP is the normal turbulence, which I believe we will get through it but APC turbulence is a turbulence that is likely to lead to a crash. APC is sinking. It is likely to crash. The plane will crash. The turbulence is very severe that it will crash. I believe it will crash. Our own turbulence will not last long. But that of the APC, the pilot will not even talk to you.

“PDP has redeemed its position towards what Nigerians are expecting, because Nigerians are tired of what is going on in the country. So they need an alternative, and the only alternative as it is today is the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP). ”

Wike said as a firm and courageous person, he would only support a presidential candidate that would not mortgage the party for other selfish interest.

“And so, if you want to run for presidency under PDP, I will not support somebody who’ll just want to bear the name of former presidential candidate, I will not agree to that. I must see that you are prepared for it, and to confront this evil called APC”, he said.

Wike boasted that he felt fulfilled that PDP got it right with a peaceful conduct of its national convention that saw the emergence of a new competent national working committee, (NWC).

He dismissed insinuations in some quarters that PDP governors wanted sole control of the party, saying any true party man would love a focused, stable and forward-looking PDP.

Plane bursts into flames after hitting mango tree, all on board killed

Five people were killed on Tuesday when a cargo plane carrying fuel for the UN’s World Food Programme crashed near South Sudan’s capital Juba, airport officials said.

The aircraft — a Soviet-era Antonov An-26 transport plane — crashed shortly after taking off from Juba’s international airport, killing everyone onboard.

“One is a South Sudanese, two are Sudanese and two are Ukrainians,” David Subek, head of the South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority said.

The cargo plane belonging to a local operator was reportedly carrying 28 barrels of fuel for the WFP to Maban, a district housing more than 100,000 refugees.

According to the airport’s director general Kur Kuol, it hit a mango tree and caught fire.

“The people on board were burnt. They are in bad shape,” said Kuol.

South Sudan Red Cross said emergency workers had collected five bodies that were “burned beyond recognition”.

South Sudan, a young nation that achieved independence in 2011 and has been in the throes of a chronic economic and political crisis, lacks a reliable transport infrastructure, with plane crashes often blamed on overloading and poor weather.

President Salva Kiir on March 3 ordered the suspension of an airline after one of its planes crashed in the country’s east, killing all 10 people aboard including the two pilots.

The aircraft belonging to South Sudan Supreme Airlines crashed in Jonglei state shortly after taking off from Pieri.

Another plane owned by local company South West Aviation crashed in August last year killing four passengers and three crew.

The cargo plane had been carrying cash to the Wau region in the country’s northwest for Juba-based Opportunity Bank.

Overloading of planes is common in South Sudan, and was believed to have contributed to the 2015 crash of an Antonov plane in Juba that left 36 people dead.

In 2017, 37 people had a miraculous escape after their plane hit a fire truck on a runway in Wau before bursting into flames.

Rainy Season: How to avoid crashes driving under the rain – FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has urged motorists to ensure that their vehicles are in good condition before putting them on the highway during this rainy season.

It said that motorists must ensure functional wipers, brake system, headlamps, rear lights, traffic indicators, side glasses, and clear windscreen while driving on the expressway during the rains.

Mr Sikiru Alonge, the FRSC Unit Commander in Ore, Ondo State, gave the advice on Wednesday in Ore.

He said that driving under the rain was like driving under emergency, hence motorists must ensure that all the necessary functional vehicle parts were good order.

He also advised motorists to be cautious and maintain normal speed limit during the rains because of the slippery roads to avert crashes.

“We are in the rainy season; motorists must ensure they have functional wipers, brakes, rear lights, trafficators, headlamps and a very clear windscreen for clearer vision,” Alonge said.

The FRSC boss urged motorists to ensure strict compliance to all traffic rules and regulations saying that erring motorists and other road users would face the law if arrested.

Boko Haram claims responsibility for crashed NAF fighter jet

Boko Haram militant group has claimed responsibility for the shooting down of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jet that went missing on Wednesday.

TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that NAF had earlier today said the fighter jet may have crashed with whereabouts of its two pilots still largely unknown.

The Alpha light attack jet was on a mission to support troops fighting militants in Borno state when it lost radar contact on Wednesday, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) said.

Nigeria’s military have been battling jihadists in the northeast of the country for more than a decade and have recently been fighting them in their stronghold in Sambisa forest in Borno state.

The video, which could not be verified as at press time, was released on a Boko Haram social media channel showing a militant standing on what the group claims is the wreckage of the jet. It shows the Nigerian flag and number NAF 475 on its fuselage.

“Nigeria air force jet fighter… was sent to Sambisa to fight the Mujahideen,” the militant said.

The air force said on Friday that the jet may have crashed. It said the cause of the crash and the whereabouts of the two crew onboard were unknown.

“Search and rescue efforts are still ongoing by NAF surveillance aircraft as well as NAF Special Forces and Nigerian Army troops on ground,” its statement said.

“At this point, the NAF is not ruling out anything regarding the incident. It however remains hopeful that the crew would soon be found and rescued.”

  • Crash: NCAA lifts ban on Boeing 737 Max Aircraft

Crash: NCAA lifts ban on Boeing 737 Max Aircraft

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has announced the lifting of ban on Boeing 737 Max Aircraft flying into the Nigerian airspace, following the two accidents involving the aircraft model in recent past.

The Director-General (D-G) of NCAA, Capt. Musa Nuhu, stated this in a statement he signed on Sunday in Lagos and made available to news men.

Nuhu noted that the approval had become effective since Feb. 12, adding that the aircraft can now fly into the country’s airspace.

He explained that the NCAA banned the aircraft model because of the two accidents they recorded in the past.

They involved Lion Air Flight 610, an Indonesian flight, which crashed into the Java Sea 13 minutes after takeoff and the Ethiopian Airlines flight 320, which crashed six minutes after takeoff some months back.

The Minister of Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika, pronounced then the ban on the operations of the Boeing 737 Max Aircraft model in the Nigerian airspace.

The D-G said that on Nov. 18, 2020, NCAA had received a Continued Airworthiness Notification to the International Community (CANIC) CAN-2020-24.

He said that it advised it of the United States Federal Aviation Administrations (FAAs) ongoing continued operational safety activities related to returning Boeing Model 737-8 and 737-9 (737 MAX) aircraft service.

“This, however, made the FAA issue a final rule/Airworthiness Directive (AD) that mandated the following actions for Boeing 737 Max aircraft which include:

“Install new flight control computer software and new 737 Max display system software; Incorporate certain Airplane Flight Manual flight crew operating procedures., modify horizontal stabiliser trim wire routing installations; conduct an angle of attack sensor system test; and conduct an operation readiness flight,” he said.

Nuhu said that it recognised that a Joint Authority Technical Review (JATR) carried out a joint review of the Boeing 737 Max planes safety system alongside FAA and NASA.

He said that the FAA had released documents on Boeing 737 Flight Standardization Board Report, revision 17, identifying special pilot training for the 737 Max planes and Safety Alert for operators.

He said: “NCAA recognises the joint review of the Boeing 737 Max Safety System and came up with the following actions required of all foreign and domestic operators:

“All operators are required to work with the Boeing Company and NCAA for the Aircraft Type Certificate Acceptance Programme to have the aircraft registered in Nigeria and issued with a Standard Certificate of Airworthiness.

“All foreign air operators that intend to operate the Boeing 737 Max aircraft into Nigeria must submit evidence of compliance with the FAA AD 2020-24-02,” he said.

Nuhu noted that NCAA would continue to ensure strict compliance with safety regulations as violation[s] would be viewed seriously.
