Sad! Unidentified armed men storm clinic ICU shoot dead criminal on parole

Unidentified armed assailants stormed the intensive care unit (ICU) of Paras Hospital in Bihar’s Patna, India, and shot a prisoner.

CCTV footage now confirms that five attackers entered the ICU this morning, Thursday, July 17, 2025, and opened fire on the inmate, identified as Chandan Mishra.

23-year-old Chandan Mishra, a notorious criminal with dozens of murd£r charges against him, was out on parole for medical reasons and had been admitted to Paras Hospital.

Despite being under medical care, he became the target of a brazen attack.

CCTV footage released by police shows five men, with guns hidden, walking down the hospital corridor before the man leading the group reaches into his jeans to bring out a gun. The other men behind him also bring out their guns as the man leading opens the door to the room the sick criminal is in.

The men are then seen firing shots at the victim after which they exit the room one after the other and flee the way they came.

Others in the hospital can be seen opening their doors to find out what was going on as the gunmen fled after the attack.

It is not clear why Chandan Mishra, who had been sentenced to life imprisonment, was attacked but there are suspicions it may be linked to gang wars. Earlier, while in Bhagalpur jail, he had a dispute with a criminal named Sheru.

According to Patna SSP Kartikay Sharma, preliminary investigation suggests the attack was carried out by members of a rival gang, believed to be the Chandan Sheru gang.

“Chandan was earlier transferred from Buxar to Bhagalpur jail and was temporarily released for treatment. We suspect the rival gang is behind this targeted shooting,” he said.

Police are now working with Buxar authorities to identify the attackers, whose photographs have been captured on hospital CCTV.

Police initially said Chandan Mishra was undergoing treatment following the attack.

However, he later succumbed to his injuries.

Abiodun on January 21, re-launched the OP-MESA, where he declared war on Yahoo boys as well as kidnappers.

But, while speaking on Wednesday in Abeokuta, Abiodun said the criminals are feeling the heat of the newly relaunched security outfit.

Speaking at the meeting with Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State in Abeokuta, Abiodun said the criminals have decided to go after him because he had made life unbearable for them.

He said, however, that he would continue to make life unbearable for enemies of the state.

“After we launched our OP-MESA last week, I understand that they have been working extremely hard, infact, what I heard is that those criminals are now saying that Dapo Abiodun is making life unbearable for them and that they are going to also come after me. Well, let me assure you that I will continue to make life intolerable and unbearable for you and I’m waiting for you.”

Speaking on the meeting with Makinde, Abiodun noted that kidnappings and other crimes are rampant at the border communities of the two states, hence, the need for a bilateral agreement.

On his part, Gov Makinde said the joint security meeting “is the right thing to do and it is absolutely important we do it.”

The Oyo governor said he and Abiodun had defied political party differences and pursued a common goal of fighting insecurity in their states.

He insisted that state policing is vital to addressing insecurity challenges at the grassroots.

Apologise to Igboho, stop chasing him like criminal – Wole Soyinka tells FG

Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka has asked the Federal Government to apologise to Sunday Igboho after officials of the Department of State Services invaded his home and killed two of his associates.

The DSS invaded Igboho’s house in Ibadan, Oyo State, early on Thursday based on intelligence it said it had received that he was stockpiling arms to cause chaos within the region.

Igboho, who has been declared wanted by the DSS, had recently been calling for a ‘Yoruba Nation’ over what he has described as a ‘Fulani invasion’ of the South-West.

In an interview with BBC Pidgin published on Monday, Soyinka said the government’s actions and rationale for invading Igboho’s home “stinks.”

“My advise to the government is that they should stop pursuing Igboho as a criminal, because you have begun by acting in a criminal fashion against him,” he said.

“If and when Igboho comes to trial, I guarantee you the government will be very embarrassed.

“I think they should tell Igboho ‘we made a mistake’, ‘we should not have acted in this way’, ‘you are no longer wanted’, ‘go back to your home, in fact escort him to his home’ and let him resume his normal life.”

According to Soyinka, Igboho’s fight for freedom was preceded by criminal acts of enemies of Nigeria who “appear to be supported by the force of the State.”

While Soyinka noted he doesn’t ‘like the sound of a Yoruba Nation’ anymore than he likes the sound of a Tiv or Igbo nation, he said the country must be restructured through the decentralisation of power.

According to the erudite professor, Nigeria’s current structure was imposed upon the people by the military.

Governor Ortom made his feelings known on Wednesday at the Government House Makurdi while briefing Journalists on the state of the second amnesty programme of his administration which covers Sankera geopolitical zone.

He however noted that he was still awaiting briefing from the Commander Operation Ayem A Kpatuma from Doma in Nasarawa State, Major General Moundhey Gadzama Ali who promised he was coming to brief him on their operation.

The Governor stated that five repentant youths from Ukum Local Government Area who were among those arrested by the Nigerian Army were released and were conveyed to the Benue Peoples House Makurdi by the Council Chairman of Ukum, Hon. Stephen Ayua to be part of the amnesty offer.

The Governor explained that the amnesty programme was not truncated as those who could not make it to Makurdi due to the confusion created by the military operation would be given another chance.

He urged the people of Sankera to remain calm as he was still investigating circumstances surrounding the arrest and killing of Gana before taking action on the matter, stressing that he owes Benue people the duty to protect lives and property.

Governor Ortom had earlier addressed the 42 repentant youths and commended them for choosing to abandon their negative ways to open a new chapter of their lives.

  • Biafra: Nnamdi Kanu is a criminal – Northern Governors

…says Southeast politicians responsible for zone’s backwardness

The Northern governors have described the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, as an ‘ordinary criminal’.

The governors who made the remarks on the sidelines of their visit to the East following the crisis in the area said backwardness of the region is not because of marginalisation as often claimed but the poor performance of the zone’s men in positions of authority in the past.

The visiting governors led by Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima, who is also chairman of Northern Governors’ Forum, decried the poor state of major roads in the Southeast, but said politicians from the zone “are only interested in pocketing the resources that would have been used in developing the zone at the detriment of the people”.

They spoke in Owerri, the Imo State capital, during a meeting with Igbo and Hausa leaders at the Government House.

The governors rounded off their truce tour which took off in Port Harcourt on Monday, moved to Umuahia, the Abia State capital, before arriving in Owerri.

They met with Governors Nyesom Wike (Rivers) and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia).

They noted that the challenges in the Southeast was not as a result of marginalisation as erroneously believed, arguing that Igbo had occupied exalted positions like Secretary to the Government (SGF) of the Federation, Senate President and many others but the occupiers of those positions rather used them for ephemeral and selfish gains.

You can take for instance the case of Nnamdi Kanu who is an ordinary criminal. When he was arrested, senators from the Southeast were falling head over heels to bail him for what they could gain at the detriment of national unity and peaceful coexistence”, Shettima stated.

The governors who were on tour of South-South and Southeast states to douse the tension created by the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the quit notice on the Igbo by the Arewa youths, insisted that the challenges confronting the country were created by the elite for personal aggrandisements.

With Shettima were: Governors Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi), Aminu Waziri Tambuwal (Sokoto), Simon Lalong (Plateau) and Bello Masari (Katsina).

Shettima added: “The problem of Nigeria is we the elite who are fanning the embers of hatred and disunity for selfish reasons. The country is passing through a grim and sober moment and by working together, we can get Nigeria to work again.

We are here to thank our colleagues in the Southeast for standing on the part of peace and national unity. All we need is tolerance, justice and generosity of mind to move the country forward”.

The Northern Governors commended the Imo State governor for his “uncommon and consistent” support for the unity of the nation. They described him as a detribalised Nigerian.

Governor Okorocha has been dehumanised and branded all sorts of names for insisting on one indivisible Nigeria but he has remained unshaken in his faith in the unity of the country. We salute his sense of patriotism and his style of leadership, he is the kind of leader that Nigeria needs.”

Tambuwal said “Nigeria is not a mistake. Nigeria is a special creation we all must continue to strive to make it work. And for us to continue to coexist harmoniously, we must have respect for each other. We must respect each others’ culture because respect begets respect”.

  • I am not into ‘Yahoo Yahoo’, I’ll not appear before Osun magistrate – embattled Iwo monarch

…says allegations against him was a deliberate attempt to tarnish his name

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulraheed Akanbi, has said he will not appear before a Magistrate’s Court in Osogbo, Osun State, which on Tuesday last week, issued a bench warrant for his arrest.

The monarch also declared that he was not involved in Internet fraud, known as Yahoo Yahoo, contrary to the allegation against him in a case before the court.

Recall that the Magistrate’s court, presided over by Mr. Olusola Aluko, had, on December 20, issued a bench warrant for the arrest of the traditional ruler for refusing to appear in court in a case instituted against him by the Oluwo of Iwo Oke, Oba Kadiri Adeoye.

In an interview with The Punch on Sunday, Oba Akanbi said he was not a fraudster and would not appear before Aluko, alleging that the case had been compromised.

The monarch equally alleged that some monarchs, who were afraid of his rising fame, were using the traditional ruler in his domain to fabricate lies against him with the aim of destroying his reputation.

In his words: “It is a shame on the judiciary to have such magistrate. There is no indictment; no case at all; somebody just brought a worthless paper before you. It is a civil case and you are relying on that to issue a warrant of arrest.

I am not a criminal. Some people want to tarnish my name and they cooked up a lie that I am into Yahoo Yahoo. I am not. Can one be a monarch and still be doing Yahoo Yahoo? What do I need that for?

The police commissioner is being represented in court, this is a civil matter; I was also represented in court by some traditional rulers and about five lawyers. Why didn’t he issue a bench warrant against the CP, who is the respondent in the case or was the CP present in court?

All he just wants is to tarnish my name. That means it has a political undertone.”

The monarch said his achievements within a year of ascending the throne had intimidated some people including some monarchs, who he did not mention.

The magistrate had threatened to issue a bench warrant against the Iwo monarch on December 2 if Oba Akanbi failed to appear before the court on December 20.

The monarch did not appear in court but was represented by his counsel.
