  • Juventus chief helicopters to Ronaldo hotel ahead of move

Juventus president Andrea Agnelli has landed in Kalamata and taken a helicopter to Cristiano Ronaldo’s hotel, ahead of a proposed move.

The Italian club are close to agreeing an £88m deal to sign the five-time Balon d’Or winner from Real Madrid, sky sports reports.

It is understood that the deal hinges on Tuesday’s meeting with Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, and Real Madrid.

According to reports, talks have been ongoing between Juventus, Madrid and Mendes.

Ronaldo has spent nine seasons in Madrid, following his then-world record £80m transfer from Manchester United, and has gone on to become the club’s record scorer with 451 goals.

The Portugal captain has lifted two La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey crowns and four Champions League trophies during his spell at the Bernabeu.

Sky Sports Spanish football expert Guillem Balague believes that Ronaldo told Los Blancos that he wants to join Juventus this summer, with the reigning European champions ready to let him leave

Real Madrid considering £88m Ronaldo bid

Real Madrid are considering an offer of around 100m euros (£88m) from Juventus for Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 33-year-old Portugal forward is Real’s all-time top scorer with 451 goals.

However his age, and Real’s need to reshape a squad that finished 17 points behind La Liga champions Barcelona last season, has encouraged the Italian champions to make their move.

Ronaldo won his fifth Champions League title with Madrid in May.

However, following that victory over Liverpool in Kiev, Real boss Zinedine Zidane has left the club and been replaced by former Spain coach Julen Lopetegui.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s future has been the subject of intense debate over the past few years, and his relationship with Real president Florentino Perez has also been questioned.

Any move would eclipse Juventus’ record transfer fee of 90m euros (£79m), which they paid for Argentina forward Gonzalo Higuain in 2016.

It would also be more than the £80m Real paid Manchester United for Ronaldo in 2009.

  • World Cup: Not the time to talk about future – Ronaldo

World Cup: Not the time to talk about future – Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo says it is “not the time” to discuss his international future after Portugal’s World Cup exit.

A 2-1 last-16 defeat by Uruguay on Saturday sent the European champions home from Russia.

Portugal coach Fernando Santos said he hopes his captain, who will be 37 at the next World Cup in Qatar, “will stay to help the young players grow and develop”.

“This team will always fight with all their strength,” said Ronaldo.

Ronaldo scored four goals, including a hat-trick against Spain, to take Portugal through to the last 16 almost on his own, but was unable to continue that form beyond the group stages.

The Real Madrid forward had failed to find the net in his four previous knockout games and never really troubled Fernando Muslera in the Uruguay goal.

But he was determined to be positive after what could be his last appearance on the biggest stage of international football.

“I’m happy, and I’m leaving here content because things went pretty well in general,” he said. “This team will continue to be one of the best in the world, with quality players, a young group, united.

“We’re going out with heads held high and the Portugal team will continue to win things.

“Generally speaking, we can be proud of our efforts.”

Both he and old rival Lionel Messi are now out of the competition, after Argentina also headed home on Saturday following a 4-3 defeat by France in Kazan.

Barcelona forward Messi, 31, has also never scored in the World Cup knockout stages and is reportedly considering his own international future.

For now, though, Ronaldo was unwilling to discuss his next step with Portugal.

“It’s not the time to talk about the future when it comes to the players and coach,” he said.

“As the captain, I’m proud of the players, the coaching team, the staff, and all the people who worked with the group to make sure everything went well.”

The defeat by Uruguay meant Portugal repeated their last-16 exit at South Africa 2010, a performance that fell short of their fourth place at Germany 2006 and their best finish of third at England 1966.

“I’d like to congratulate Uruguay, who scored twice, but I’d also like to praise Portugal for what they did,” added Ronaldo.

“To my mind, Portugal played better than Uruguay. We had chances but that’s football for you: the team that scores more goals wins, which is why Uruguay are celebrating.”

Portugal’s 63-year-old coach Santos said his team’s talisman should continue.

“Cristiano still has a lot to give to football, and I hope he will stay to help the young players grow and develop,” he said on Saturday. “We have a team with many young players, and of course we all want him there with us.”

  • Cristiano Ronaldo rejects new Real Madrid contract

Cristiano Ronaldo has allegedly rejected a big-money offer to stay at Real Madrid.

The Portugal international has turned down a contract worth £26.7m from Los Blancos, according to Tuttosport.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s future was cast into doubt in May when he hinted that Real’s 3-1 victory over Liverpool in the Champions League final would be his final game for the club.

Ronaldo’s former club, Manchester United, were immediately installed as the favourites to sign him, but the latest reports suggest that they face competition from Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain.

The player’s agent Jorge Mendes is said to be plotting his client’s departure from Real.

  • Ronaldo wants Real Madrid to pay his £26.45m fine

Cristiano Ronaldo has told Real Madrid he wants them to pay his fine to the Spanish tax office, according to The Sun.

The former Manchester United man was hit with a charge for allegedly defrauding the government of £13m last year.

And El Confidencial reports that, as things stand, he has struck a deal to pay the tax authorities a total sum of £26.45m (€30m) to avoid spending time in jail.

It adds that, amid contract negotiations, Ronaldo, 33, has requested Real Madrid pay the fee — but the club have refused.

It is understood that the amount he will ultimately have to hand over will be relative to his earnings.

The Portugese current net salary of £340,000-a-week is dwarfed the likes of Lionel Messi and Neymar, who he is seeking parity with.

Both the striker and Spanish tax authorities want the matter sorted soon — ideally before the start of the World Cup.

Last summer, and during the early part of this season, rumours emanating from Ronaldo’s camp suggested he wanted to leave as he was unhappy.

And one of the reasons cited was that he felt a lack of protection from the club over his problems with the tax authorities.

However, he found a new lease of life since 2018 and has been instrumental in Los Blancos’ march to a third-consecutive Champions League final — and is in talks over a new contract.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo has made it clear to Real the five players he does not want in the team next season, according to reports in Spain.

Los Blancos are expected to undergo a major squad revamp in the summer, according to Daily Star.

And club president Florentino Perez is concerned by the ageing problem in his side.

Their poor showing in La Liga has led many to believe that Zinedine Zidane could be axed at the end of the season too.

Fomer Brazil international is the best Ronaldo – Mourinho

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho has taken aim at fellow country-man Cristiano Ronaldo by claiming the legendary Brazilian striker is the best player to carry the name.

The duo had a tempestuous relationship when Mourinho coached his compatriot during his time in the Real Madrid dugout.

The former Real Madrid manager is in no doubt who is the best Ronaldo when asked about the Brazilian in a documentary about the late former Newcastle and England boss Sir Bobby Robson.

He said: “Ronaldo Nazario, the best Ronaldo EVER!”

Robson signed Ronaldo from PSV Eindhoven for Barcelona for £13.2million in 1996 and he went on to win the World Player of the Year three times.

Cristiano Ronaldo, meanwhile, has won the Ballon d’Or on five occasions, rubber-stamping his reputation as one of the best players of all time.

On the Brazilian Ronaldo’s incredible 47-goal season for Barca before being sold to Inter, Mourinho said: “I never saw the same, I never saw the same. It was the best year ever for Ronaldo. He [Robson] was like a dad to him.

“He understood the Brazilian kid personality and at the same time, he gave him the freedom to allow him allowed him to play on the pitch.

“I remember Bobby every day… A person only dies when the last person who loves him dies.”

The pair have kept tight lips over a future wedding, even though they already have a daughter together.

The new ring comes just months after she gave birth to the couple’s first child, Alana Martina.

Georgina sat in the passenger seat of the ex-Manchester United ace’s luxury motor when she showed off the new rock.

Cristiano Ronaldo surpass Xavi to set another Champions League record

Real Madrid forward, Cristiano Ronaldo set yet another Champions League record on Tuesday when he made his 152nd career appearance in the European competition.

The Portugal star started the second leg of Real Madrid’s semi-final against Bayern Munich, with the Blancos carrying a 2-1 lead from the first leg.

With the appearance, Ronaldo broke the record previously held by arch rivals Barcelona legend Xavi, for the most games played by an outfield player in Champions League history.

Former Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas has the record for most appearances by any player with 167, meaning Ronaldo is on course to beat that mark in the 2019-20 season.

Cristiano Ronaldo set another Champions League record just last week, becoming the player with the most wins in competition history. The 33-year-old did, however, see his remarkable run of 11 straight Champions League matches with a goal snapped in last week’s game at the Allianz Arena.

Overall in 2017-18, Ronaldo has scored 42 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions.

  • Real Madrid v Juventus: Ronaldo backs referee over penalty call

Cristiano Ronaldo could not understand why Juventus protested Michael Oliver’s late decision to hand Real Madrid a penalty and a dramatic aggregate win on Wednesday night in the Champions League last four.

Lucas Vazquez was brought down in stoppage time by Medhi Benatia, with English referee Oliver pointing to the spot for Ronaldo to convert for a 4-3 aggregate victory.

In a dramatic match, Juventus had come back to 3-3 in the tie following their 3-0 first-leg defeat, but Ronaldo says Juve’s protests, which saw Gianluigi Buffon sent off, were unfounded.

“I don’t understand why they are protesting,” he said to reporters after the game. “Lucas was tackled from behind and if they don’t give him the penalty, it’s a goal.”

Ronaldo, who scored his 120th Champions League goal before celebrating with his shirt off in front of the Real fans, admitted he had to calm himself down before stepping up for the memorable victory.

“The pulse increased, but I calmed down, and I knew I’d be decisive,” he continued.

Regarding the events at the Bernabeu, Ronaldo added: “We have suffered, but it helps us to learn.

“In football, nothing is given away, you have to fight until the end. Madrid could’ve scored more goals, but Juve and Buffon were good.”

  • La Liga: Cristiano Ronaldo needed a rest, says Zinedine Zidane

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane insisted that Cristiano Ronaldo needed a rest after substituting him during derby match against Atletico Madrid at the Bernabeu.

Ronaldo opened the scoring in the Madrid derby, smartly converting Gareth Bale’s cross with a volley from close-range after 53 minutes – but ten minutes later, after Antoine Griezmann’s equaliser, he was replaced by Karim Benzema.

A pin drop could be heard inside the Bernabeu when Ronaldo’s No 7 flashed up on the fourth official’s board as supporters struggled to process what was happening before belatedly breaking out into applause.

Ronaldo did not appear happy at the decision and was seen mouthing something in Zidane’s direction a few minutes later.

Speaking post-match, Zidane said: “Cristiano is Cristiano, he has been this player all his life, scoring 50 goals a season. It is true that there is nobody else who does that.

“But others can score, have done recently, and we must think about the positives. It’s better to have Cristiano with us.

“It was just [to rest]. We have many games, that’s it. Sometimes he needs to rest. These days he needs that. He feels better every day, you can see it.”

With Barcelona 10 points clear at the top in La Liga and a place in the top four virtually sewn up, Zidane’s decision to give Ronaldo a break was perhaps understandable.

Real have a Champions League quarter-final second leg against Juventus to come on Wednesday, although they hold a commanding 3-0 lead from the first leg.

Following a slow start to the campaign, Ronaldo has rediscovered his most devastating form in recent weeks, scoring 24 goals in his last 12 games in all competitions, while his strike against Atletico was the 650th of his career.
