  • Football Legend Pele says Neymar plays more like Messi not Ronaldo

Brazilian Legend Pele claims fellow countryman Neymar is more like Lionel Messi than Cristiano Ronaldo.

Neymar, 26, who finished third behind Ronaldo and Messi for the Ballon d’Or in 2015 and 2017, has been compared to both players, especially in his native country Brazil.

Pele claims Neymar’s ability as a playmaker is more similar in style to Barcelona forward Messi, while Real Madrid forward Ronaldo’s finishing reminds him of former Brazil team-mates Vava and Coutinho, with whom he won the 1962 World Cup.

“Neymar has been compared with Cristiano Ronaldo. So I’ve said several times, told friends, in Europe, given interviews… Cristiano Ronaldo is an excellent player, he could be like our Vava, our Coutinho, the finisher,” Pele told ESPN.

“Neymar is really more of a Messi-style, one who constructs the play, but scores the goal also.”

PSG forward Neymar is currently out of action with a foot injury but is expected to recover in time to play for Brazil at this summer’s World Cup in Russia.

  • La Liga: Ronaldo hit double in Real Madrid win

Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice as Real Madrid followed up their Champions League win at Paris St-Germain with victory at Eibar in La Liga.

The hosts started well but Ronaldo opened the scoring with a neat finish from Luka Modric’s ball.

Former Wigan defender Ivan Ramis headed in an equaliser for Eibar and it looked like they would secure a point.

But a defensive error allowed Dani Carvajal to cross and Ronaldo headed in.

Ronaldo, who scored in the 2-1 win at PSG on Tuesday as Real Madrid moved into the Champions League quarter-finals, has now scored 13 goals in his last seven games.

  • UCL: Ronaldo scores as Madrid see off PSG 2-1 in France

European champions Real Madrid moved into the Champions League quarter-finals as they beat Ligue 1 leaders Paris St-Germain at Parc des Princes.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice in the first leg at home, which Real won 3-1, and he headed in from Lucas Vazquez’s cross to extend Real’s lead in France.

PSG had midfielder Marco Verratti sent off for two bookable offences, before Edinson Cavani pulled a goal back.

But Casemiro’s heavily deflected strike sealed Real’s victory.

For PSG, 14 points clear at the top of Ligue 1, it is the second successive season where they have gone out at the last-16 phase.

They were without injured forward Neymar and were not helped by Verratti’s needless dismissal in the 66th minute. He was booked when he fouled Casemiro in the first half and was shown a second yellow card when he sprinted after referee Felix Brych and was cautioned for dissent.

Madrid are now into the Champions League quarter-finals for an eighth successive season and remain on course for a third title in a row.
