  • Transfer: Arsenal submit £40m bid for Zaha

Arsenal have submitted an opening bid of about £40m for Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha.

No players have been offered as part of the proposed deal, and the bid will be rejected by Palace.
The 26-year-old is keen to leave the club this summer and favours a move to Arsenal, but the Eagles value the Ivory Coast international at up to £80m.
The Gunners will have to hope a compromise can be reached on a lower fee and staggered payments.
Arsenal’s summer transfer budget has been restricted by their failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
After an unsuccessful move to Manchester United, Zaha made a permanent return to Palace in 2015 and has four years left on his contract, which he signed last summer.

Transfer: Man Utd complete £50m Wan-Bissaka signing

Manchester United have signed England Under-21 right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace in a £50m deal.

The 21-year-old, who made his first-team debut for Palace last year, has agreed a five-year contract that will earn him up to £80,000 a week.

United are paying £45m up front, making Wan-Bissaka the club’s fifth-biggest signing, behind Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku, Angel di Maria and Fred.

He is the club’s second summer recruit, after Daniel James joined from Swansea.

Wales international James, 21, cost £15m.

Wan-Bissaka, who has been on international duty this month at the European Under-21 Championship, joined Palace’s academy when he was 11.

The defender was on £10,000 a week at Selhurst Park, the lowest-paid player in Palace’s first-team squad.

His transfer was delayed by final negotiations between the clubs, which ended with the Eagles securing a 10% sell-on clause if Wan-Bissaka leaves United for more than £50m.

The deal is yet to be formally announced by the Old Trafford club.

  • Wilfried Zaha keen to leave Palace for Arsenal

Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha is keen to leave the club this summer and favours a move to Arsenal, who would like to recruit him.

Palace value the Ivory Coast international at up to £80m.

However, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka set to join Manchester United, Palace are reluctant to lose Zaha this summer.

United, who sold Zaha back to Palace four years ago, would get 25% of any fee if the player is transferred, unless that clause is renegotiated.

It is understood Arsenal were optimistic they would have the necessary resources to bring in the 26-year-old if they had qualified for next season’s Champions League.

Failure to do so has restricted their budget to around £45m, meaning they would need to raise substantial funds through player sales to even temp Palace into doing business for Zaha.

The most realistic way of generating the required finance would be by cashing in on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, though the potential implications of parting with last season’s top scorer would present a major dilemma for the Gunners.

Another of their key assets is Uruguay midfielder Lucas Torreira, who arrived at Emirates Stadium from Sampdoria last summer and has been linked with a return to Italy.

But while Arsenal accept every player has a price, they have no intention of letting the 23-year-old go and do not believe he is unhappy, contrary to some reports.

Torreira has been most heavily linked with AC Milan and although they do admire him, he is not a focus of their attention – the Rossoneri know the asking price would be prohibitive and have other targets.

Meanwhile, Arsenal remain in talks with Celtic over the signing of left-back Kieran Tierney, 22, and St Etienne regarding their central defender William Saliba, 18.

  • Man Utd reach agreement to sign £50m Wan-Bissaka

Man Utd reach agreement to sign £50m Wan-Bissaka

Manchester United have reached an agreement with Crystal Palace to sign right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The deal is worth £50m and the 21-year-old England Under-21 international is set to travel for a medical imminently before going on holiday.

United have offered Wan-Bissaka a long-term contract and wages of up to £80,000 a week.

He is on £10,000 a week at Selhurst Park, the lowest-paid player in Palace’s first-team squad.

Wan-Bissaka, who has been on international duty this month at the European Under-21 Championship, joined Crystal Palace academy when he was 11 and made his first-team debut in 2018.

United would pay £45m up front, which would make him the Old Trafford club’s fifth-biggest signing, behind Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku, Angel di Maria and Fred.

A sticking point in negotiations was the 25% sell-on clause that United inserted into Wilfried Zaha’s contract when they sold the winger back to Palace for £6m in February 2015.

The Eagles wanted the clause removed or reduced, but United eventually refused – based on the low fee they received four years ago – and it will remain in place.

If the deal is completed, Wan-Bissaka will be United’s second summer arrival, after 21-year-old Wales winger Daniel James joined from Swansea for £15m earlier in June.

  • Man Utd to make second Wan-Bissaka offer

Man Utd to make second Wan-Bissaka offer

Manchester United are preparing to make a second improved bid for Crystal Palace right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka after having their initial £40m bid rejected, Sky Sports reports

Palace rejected the £40m bid at the weekend and are thought to be holding out for nearer £60m for the defender.

Talks are ongoing and United have indicated they will make an improved second offer.

The 21-year-old England U21 international has three years left on his current Crystal Palace contract.

Wan-Bissaka made his debut for the Eagles in February 2018 in a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham, he has gone on to play 42 Premier League matches for the south London club, who finished 12th in the Premier League last season.

The young right-back would be United’s second signing of the summer transfer window after a £15m (plus £3m add-ons) fee was agreed for Swansea’s Daniel James on June 7.

  • I suffer racist abuse every game – Wilfried Zaha

Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha says he is subjected to racist abuse in “nearly every game” he plays in.

The Ivory Coast international claims he is called a “monkey and a n*****” regularly during games when discussing the resurgence of discriminatory abuse in football.

Earlier this year, anti-discrimination group Kick It Out highlighted a Twitter user calling Zaha a “diving monkey” after he won a penalty in a Premier League game, as one of a number of discriminatory incidents to occur that weekend.

“Nearly every game I’m called a monkey or a n***** or a whatever,” Zaha told The Jackal magazine. “Imagine if I really got down about that?”

Zaha also says he has little desire to become an anti-racism campaigner, saying: “Yeah, Wilf Zaha’s going to make a speech about racism. [I’m] so over it.

“I don’t know if we’re animals to them or whatever. Why is this okay? Why are you saying these things right next to your five-year-old kid?

“And then, when you leave, what, you’re back to being a normal dad, working a normal job? People mask this stuff.”

The 26-year-old says he has turned to a life coach to help him cope with abuse alongside the rigours of professional football.

  • Crystal Palace signs Batshuayi on loan

Crystal Palace have signed Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi on loan until the end of the season.

The Belgium international, 25, had been on a season-long loan at La Liga side Valencia.

Batshuayi – who had been linked with a loan move to Tottenham or Everton – has scored seven goals in 32 Premier League appearances for the Blues.

“This is a fantastic signing for Crystal Palace,” said club chairman Steve Parish.

“Michy is a player we’ve long admired, and I’m delighted that we’ve finally managed to get him in a red and blue shirt. He will be a magnificent addition to our squad.”

Chelsea signed Batshuayi for £33.2m from Marseille in 2016, and he scored the decisive goal in Chelsea’s 2016-17 Premier League title success.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund, where he scored nine times in 14 games.

He netted one goal in 15 La Liga appearances for Valencia this season.

Chelsea rejects Spurs bid, Batshuayi set for Palace move

Michy Batshuayi has agreed terms with Crystal Palace ahead of a potential loan move from Chelsea, according to Sky Sports.

The deal looks set to go down to the wire on Deadline Day, and comes after Chelsea refused to deal with Tottenham over a potential loan deal for the Belgian.

Batshuayi joined Chelsea in July 2016 for a fee in the region of £33m from Ligue 1 side Marseille.

  • FA Cup: Tottenham suffers shock exit as Palace go through

FA Cup: Tottenham suffers shock exit as Palace go through

Tottenham went out of their second knockout competition in four days after defeat by Crystal Palace in the FA Cup fourth round at Selhurst Park.

Having lost a Carabao Cup semi-final to Chelsea on penalties on Thursday, Spurs were 2-0 down inside 35 minutes.

Connor Wickham marked his first start since November 2016 with a goal before a penalty by ex-Spurs midfielder Andros Townsend doubled the lead.

Spurs missed a penalty before half-time when Kieran Trippier blazed wide.

It was their third miss from the spot in two games after Lucas Moura and Eric Dier failed in Thursday’s shootout at Stamford Bridge as Spurs went out of the EFL Cup.

A much-changed Tottenham side were lacklustre against Palace.

On the few occasions they did create serious chances, they could not find a way past Julian Speroni, with the 39-year-old Argentine keeper making crucial saves to keep out Georges-Kevin N’Koudou and Fernando Llorente.

Palace fans celebrated wildly at the final whistle after a first win over Tottenham since 2016 saw them advance to the fifth round for the first time since the 2015-16 season, when they went on to reach the final.

  • Salah scores twice as Liverpool beat Crystal Palace

Salah scores twice as Liverpool beat Crystal Palace

Liverpool overcame a strong challenge from Crystal Palace to win an exhilarating game 4-3 and extend their lead at the top of the Premier League to seven points.

Having beaten Manchester City last month, Palace looked like they might have another say in the title race when Andros Townsend struck in the 34th minute at Anfield.

Liverpool hit back after half-time with two goals in seven minutes from Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, but James Tomkins headed in from a corner in the 65th minute.

An error from 39-year-old goalkeeper Julian Speroni gifted Salah a second goal and Sadio Mane made it 4-2 in injury-time after James Milner had been sent off.

Max Meyer scored a late goal for Palace but Liverpool held out to extend their lead over City, who play Huddersfield on Sunday.
