Wan-Bissaka: Dad’s heart-to-heart forced me to get serious

Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka admits he almost gave up on football as a teenager.

Wan-Bissaka has explained his Dad saved his career before his £50m United transfer.

“You meet people from different areas and you want to do what they’re doing because it looks fun, so I kind of got dragged into that,” Wan-Bissaka told the Players’ Tribune.

“Playing with Crystal Palace, I started to not take it serious, stuff like diet. After school, I was there in the chicken and chip shop, fizzy drinks, the whole lot you can name it.

“It was a crowd where they didn’t play football, so their situation wasn’t the same as mine, they didn’t have to go to training after school.

“I kind of got dragged into that. Palace spoke to my Dad and they told me that it could be my last season.

“He spoke to me and I felt his pain, I felt it. Usually he’s lecturing me, but this one he was actually speaking to me and I’ve never seen him speak like that, so that’s when I knew it was serious.

“I thought this was my only chance, I can’t ruin it.”

  • I don’t want to be a polygamist like my dad-Reminisce

I don’t want to be a polygamist like my dad-Reminisce

Nigerian rapper, Remi Shafaru a.k.a Reminisce has come a long way in the Nigerian music industry. Reminisce who recently released a new album ‘Vibes and Insha Allah’ has averred that he gave up vanity and the super star life to focus on his family because he doesn’t want to be a polygamist like his dad.

“I’m 39 and fresh as a house husband. I love my family, I conduct my business, read all the books I want, play FIFA – the only way I piss my wife off [laughs] – and be happy. I gave up vanity and the superstar life to focus on my family because I didn’t want to be a polygamist like my dad. I can’t risk this virus.

“In 2012, eLDee told me, “Some people get carried away with this stardom thing and forget to live life.” Now, I’m living life. Before you guys leave, I’ll probably eat Fried Yam, crayfish and Akara . I just want to be happy. Two days ago, Cabasa abused 9ice and I for playing FIFA at 3 am in the morning

“I didn’t release music for 18 months, so I used that time to know my Children more and study music streaming. The first experiment with streaming was ‘Ponmile’ which was very successful. Then, ‘Diet’ and ‘Problem,’ and it all shocked me because it was new. I also realized that as procedural or bureaucratic as it is, it is also secure and beautiful”, he told Pulseng.

Asked the importance of winning awards as an entertainer, he said: “If awards matter, I’d be livid – with all the losses. My Egbon, Ayo Animashaun, called me recently to come get all my plaques from him. My wife and my kids want them, but I’m never bothered. You have to accept that some other person has also been excellent.

“At the AMVCA, I stayed at home because I knew I wasn’t going to win. Real recognize real. I have a lot of them though – even with the awards I’ve lost. In 2014, iLLBliss told me that, “Rems, you are only as good as your last hit,” that’s why I keep going.”

  • My dad knew school wasn’t meant for me- Josh 2 funny

Comedian, Chibuike Josh Alfred, aka Josh 2 Funny is one Nigerian entertainer whose humorous content has gone viral on countless occasions.

The creator of the trending #Dontleavemechallenge has stated that he doesn’t create skits with the intention to make them go viral.

“I never make skits with the ready-made intention of virality. In fact, the virality of the content never starts from me, it always starts from other people who love the content. For example, that Zimbabwean guy who jumped on #DontLeaveMe made people pay attention to what we created.

“‘All My Guys Are Ballers’ also went viral after people started posting it on Twitter and it went all over the world,” Josh said in chat with Pulse.

Speaking further, Josh opened up his foray into comedy, adding that his dad had always known school wasn’t meant for him.

“When I was young, I did a lot of painting and drawing… When I was in JSS1, I used to make greeting cards for my classmates and sell them for N50, N100. The day I sold one for N200, I shut down the market (laughs). I still draw, but time doesn’t allow me to paint and draw as much.

“When I was in Secondary School, my teachers used to tell my dad that schooling was a waste of time for me and he loved hearing that. I was also good at football, I was the best in the same academy as Asisat Oshoala. My dad knew that I was not meant for school, but he wanted me to finish that school to have some security.

“[I chose comedy because] I am naturally funny and people have always told me. I don’t force things and I don’t even try to make people laugh, I just talk. I think comedy is in my blood, but music is in my genes… That’s why I don’t wash my jeans (laughs). I wear dirty jeans”.

He wrote, “In JSS 2, I told my father I didn’t want to go to school anymore, he should open electrical shop for me. He said OK. He invited me to his room, locked the door & pulled out his belt. He gave me a beating that reset my brain to factory setting. Look at me today. Thank you Dad!”

TheNewsGuru recalls that back in February, Pete Edochie had expressed his opinion over the issue of men kneeling down to propose to their partners.

““Any young man who gets down on his knees to propose to a girl is not just an idiot, he is a bloody fool. The reason why I am saying this is simple, we try to copy white people .I believe I the core of our culture. The white man knees down to propose to a girl. You know what it means? The girl takes over the family. This is why whenever you disagree with your wife overseas, you are kicked out and your wife takes over the house.

“I have lived with my wife for 51 years, nobody has come to say, please stop beating this woman. Is it hatred that united us? It means you are an idiot.

“If you call that civilization, it is alright, kneel down before your wife, I will sympathize with you when she takes over the home”.
