Also among the top 50 list are two other Nigerians, the Sultan of Sokoto, Saad Abubakar III, and a Borno State-Islamic cleric, Sheik Ibrahim Saleh.

The Sultan and Saleh retained their previous ranking, 22nd and 38th respectively.

Also listed were Aliko Dangote, the richest man in Nigeria, and Abubakar Shekau, leader of the terrorist group, Boko Haram.

Other Nigerians who made the list of most influential 500 Muslims in the world included Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, Prince Bola Ajibola, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, and Abdurahman Olanrewaju Ahmad.

The publication noted that there were 1.7 billion Muslims all over the world, making up approximately 23 per cent of the world’s population, or one-fifth of the world.

There was tension at the Dangote Industries Limited on Monday (today) as a Human Resources Manager of the company, Istifanus Bello Gurama, who was reportedly kidnapped three weeks ago, was murdered.

Reliable sources say Gurama’s body was found in the gutter, adding that one of the kidnappers must have alerted a member of the public to where the body was.

Gurama was believed to have been kidnapped three weeks ago but news of his murder got to his family members (today) Monday.

Sources close to him said that as a senior strategist, Gurama was in charge of negotiations and handing ransom payment to kidnappers whenever any of the expatriates in Dangote Industries was kidnapped.

The day Gurama was allegedly kidnapped, he was said to have gone, as usual, to negotiate and pay ransom money for the release of one of the expatriates. However, on getting there, the kidnappers reportedly said he was the one they were after and he was subsequently detained.

A close friend who spoke on condition of anonymity said Gurama showed him some of the videos of his negotiations with kidnappers.

A key source in the Dangote Industries who confirmed the kidnap however reacted to the news of Gurama’s murder with surprise.

The Head, Media of the firm, Mr. Tony Chiejina who said Gurama was very close to him, also reacted with surprise to the news of his death.

The company is however yet to issue any official communication as at the time of filing this report.
