Why I said Lagos is a no man’s land- Bwala clarifies after backlash

Daniel Bwala, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication has explained his submission regarding the special status of Lagos.

TheNewsGuru.com(TNG) reports that Bwala during a recent interview described Lagos State as a “no-man’s land” and the pride of Nigeria’s economy.

However, some persons misinterpreted what he said about Lagos State and investments by the Tinubu government.

The presidential aide argued that the concentration of federal projects in Lagos should not be seen as favouritism but as investment in the country’s commercial hub.

However, shortly after the interview, Bwala via his verified X page stressed that his statement during the interview was not in any way meant to contend that Lagos belongs to the Yoruba people.

He added that the unique identity of Lagos as a Yoruba homeland is settled and beyond dispute.

The media aide explained that his argument was for Lagos to benefit from massive investments in infrastructure to sustain the economic and social responsibilities it shoulders not only in Nigeria but in West Africa.

He said, “Culturally, historically, and constitutionally, Lagos belongs to the Yoruba people, and that has never been in contention. The unique identity of Lagos as a Yoruba homeland is settled and beyond dispute.

“What I emphasized was the special place Lagos occupies in Nigeria and indeed West Africa — a city that, much like New York, Paris, or London, serves as the commercial nerve center of our economy. Lagos provides every Nigerian, regardless of origin, a level playing field to thrive, and in this sense, it mirrors the diversity of our nation while remaining firmly rooted in Yoruba heritage.

“My argument was, therefore, and justifiably so, for massive investments in infrastructure to sustain the economic and social responsibilities Lagos has shouldered on behalf of Nigeria.

“Any President who truly seeks to succeed must critically support Lagos, not because it is “no man’s land,” but because it is the heartbeat of the nation’s development.”

Insurgents masquerading as activists will be crushed- Tinubu issues stern warning

President Bola Tinubu has sent a strong and clear message to insurgents and their supporters, warning that any form of violence cloaked as rebellion will be decisively dealt with.

Speaking through his Special Adviser on Policy Communications, Daniel Bwala, at a high-level meeting with Christian leaders in Abuja, Tinubu declared: Crime is crime   no religion, no tribe can shield it.”

He emphasized that Nigeria’s security forces have received renewed directives to take the fight directly to all criminal elements, leaving no room for excuses or inaction.
“No more hiding. No more excuses. We’re coming for every criminal element, Bwala stated on behalf of the President.

The declaration came during a meeting with the Charismatic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, led by Archbishop Chivir Chianson, held at the State House. Though initially religious in nature, the gathering quickly turned into a charged statement of the government’s firm resolve to tackle terrorism, tribal conflict, and economic sabotage.

Tinubu’s representative called for unity across religious and ethnic lines, urging Nigerians to confront wrongdoing without bias.
“Let’s stop colouring crime. Whether in cassocks or turbans, evil must be called by its name,” he urged.

The President also addressed the nation’s economic situation, assuring the clerics that despite current hardships, the government’s reform efforts are bearing fruit.
“Strike actions are dropping, revenue is climbing, and states are breathing again,” he said confidently.

Archbishop Chianson didn’t hold back in expressing the concerns of Christians in rural areas, who continue to suffer from banditry and displacement. However, he commended the President’s efforts toward inclusivity—particularly the appointment of Senator George Akume, a Christian, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation. The move was described as “a welcome shift” in Nigeria’s political landscape.

The bishops also lauded Tinubu’s forest guard initiative, calling it a game-changer” in the battle against criminals exploiting Nigeria’s vast and often ungoverned forest regions.

With a nationwide membership of over 906 bishops, the Charismatic Bishops Conference pledged its support for Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda and announced plans for a national synod in 2025, focusing on prayer, peacebuilding, and rural development.

The meeting was also attended by several high-ranking clerics from northern Nigeria, including Archbishop James Maljit, Archbishop Joseph Jatau Yari, Archbishop Alexander Nyoonkyeh, and Bishop David Gyang signaling broad-based religious support for the administration’s security and unity efforts.

  • Why Nigerians will vote Tinubu for second term – Bwala

Why Nigerians will vote Tinubu for second term – Bwala

Mr Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser on Public Communications and Media to President Bola Tinubu has said that the president can’t be distracted about talks on the 2027 presidential election.

He said this on Wednesday in Abuja while speaking with newsmen at the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Secretariat.

He said for now, President Tinubu was focused on governance and delivering on his mandate and promises to Nigerians.

He said he would therefore not be distracted by political comments ahead of the 2027 presidential election, adding that he was very focused on issues that bothers Nigerians to bring them out of hunger.

He assured that Tinubu was working to ensure that agriculture brought about the expected revolution and that Nigerians were able to deal with their everyday challenges.

“So the time for politicking is not yet, and when that time comes, we are going to be ready for everyone.

“The president’s agenda, which is working well, is what will naturally endear Nigerians to vote for him for the second term. He is more than eminently qualified constitutionally to contest for the second term in office.

“And God willing, if God gives him life and health, we do hope that he will run his cause as provided by the Constitution,” Bwala said.

On if the APC was jittery that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) won the just concluded Ghana presidential election, he said such could not happen now in Nigeria.

This, he said, was especially because Nigerians were seeing what the Tinubu-led administration was doing.

According to him, Nigerians only care about what they are confronted with everyday, irrespective of political affiliations.

“They don’t actually care whether you are white or black skinned or whatever, as long as what matters to them on their dinner table is dealt with,” he said.

The Presidential Aide expressed optimism that Nigerians would always stay with Tinubu because he had been  receiving commendations from every part of the country.

Bwala who was appointed on Nov. 14, debunked insinuations that he had been sidelined in the presidency, saying he had been carrying out the assignment he was appointed for without hindrance.

Bwala was the spokesman of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

The Presidential Aide who defected to the APC not long after the election, said though he had not been in touch with Atiku, he had no issue with him.

  • Confusion in Tinubu’s administration as Onanuga counters Bwala’s claim as presidential spokesman

Confusion in Tinubu’s administration as Onanuga counters Bwala’s claim as presidential spokesman

There has been some confusion following the new pronouncement of Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Policy Communications, as the new presidential spokesman.

TheNewsGuru.com(TNG) reports that Bwala, while addressing State House correspondents on Monday, November, 18 stated that he has taken over the role of former Presidential aide, Ajuri Ngelale, who was the official spokesperson of Tinubu.

Bwala, when asked about his role in the administration, said that his focus was solely on supporting Tinubu’s agenda, after which he went ahead and acknowledged the role of his predecessor, Ngelale.

He added that his main concern is not to overshadow the responsibilities of others within the administration.

Bwala said: “There is no issue as to the differences in terms of the responsibility; everybody knows his responsibility.

“I only came to introduce myself to you and the role that was given to me by Mr. President. I told you that role was once occupied by Ajuri Ngelale. But for God’s sake, we are all colleagues.

“We are not particularly bothered about who is this who is that. We are working to achieve the mandate of Mr. President.”

However, TNG understands that Bayo Onanuga, designated as the special adviser on Information and Strategy, had been the presidential spokesman since the exit of Ngelale Ajuri, who was the special adviser on media and publicity.

Onanuga was said to have even moved into the office previously occupied by Ajuri at the presidential villa.

Shortly after Bwala’s press address, Onanuga stressed in a statement that there is no single spokesperson for President Tinubu.

Onanuga noted that Tinubu appointed three spokespersons against the previous arrangement where Ajuri Ngelale acted alone.

Onanuga also changed Bwala’s job description, announcing that he (Bwala) is now the Special Adviser on Policy Communications and no longer the Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications.

This is contained in a statement by Mr Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser, Information and Strategy.

“Mr Daniel Bwala, announced last week as Special Adviser, Media and Public Communication, is now Special Adviser Policy Communication.

“These appointments, along with the existing role of Special Adviser, Information and Strategy, underscore that there is no single individual spokesperson for the Presidency,” said the President.

He said this approach would ensure effective and consistent communication of government policies, decisions and engagements.

Planned Protest: Daniel Bwala knocks, Atiku, PDP

Daniel Bwala, a former spokesperson for the Atiku Campaign Organization during the 2023 Presidential election, has criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for supporting a proposed nationwide protest.

After meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Bwala addressed reporters, stating that the planned protest was unnecessary.

Bwala described the protest as politically motivated and urged opposition party members to look beyond politics and support President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to transform Nigeria’s economy.

He also encouraged Nigerians to give the President more time to achieve his goals for the country, emphasizing that the President is aware of the economic hardships facing the nation.

“I was delighted to meet with Mr. President today to show solidarity with him for his tireless efforts in addressing the problems confronting the Nigerian people,” Bwala said. “Mr. President is genuinely concerned about the plight of our people and is working hard to address them. Let us keep faith and hope alive, knowing that there is light at the end of the tunnel.”

While Bwala acknowledged the constitutional rights of people to carry out peaceful protests, he expressed concerns that the nationwide protest might not end peacefully.

He also revealed that he had officially left the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and planned to rejoin the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), where he was a member before joining the PDP in 2022.

Reports have emerged that youths are planning a nationwide protest between August 1 and 15 against the rising cost of living and economic hardship in the country. On Tuesday, Atiku Abubakar urged the Federal Government to allow Nigerians to exercise their constitutional rights to organize a peaceful protest.

He criticized the administration of President Bola Tinubu for attempting to suppress the protesters, calling it an “exercise in futility” and noting the irony that those stifling protest rights in 2024 had been protest leaders in 2012.

  • Withdrawal of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger from ECOWAS has nothing to do with Tinubu’s leadership

Withdrawal of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger from ECOWAS has nothing to do with Tinubu’s leadership

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Daniel Bwala has defended President Bola Tinubu over withdrawal of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger from the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS.

Bwala said their withdrawal from ECOWAS has everything to do with the dynamics of proxy trade conflicts between Russia/China and the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, NATO.

Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger on Sunday announced its decision to quit ECOWAS.

However, Bwala said the development has nothing to do with Tinubu’s leadership or lack thereof as it was being peddled by naysayers.

In a post on his X handle on Sunday, Bwala added that Nigerians should focus on the nation.

“The withdrawal of the three West African nations from @ecowas_cedeao ECOWAS has nothing to do with @officialABAT President Tinubu’s leadership or lack thereof as it is peddled by naysayers . It has everything to do with the dynamics of proxy trade conflicts between @GovernmentRF Russia/China and NATO.

“Nigeria is not at war with both blocs, so we are good, and President Tinubu would find a path for lasting peace in ECOWAS.

“Let’s focus on our nation and together as a people we would find solutions to our age long problems.
