Our National Legal Adviser did not resign – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday in Abuja, said Mr Ahmad El-Marzuq remained its National Legal Adviser, contrary to reports that he had resigned.

Mr Felix Morka, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, said this in a statement while reacting to the purpoted reports which he described as false and misleading.

“Barr. Ahmad Usman El-Marzuq is, and remains the National Legal Adviser of APC. Barr. Daniel Bwala was not the National Legal Adviser of the party as erroneously reported,” he said.

He added that the report was either borne out of mischief or extreme negligence and should therefore be disregarded by the general public.

APC Chieftain resigns after Tinubu picked Muslim running mate

Mr Daniel Bwala, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has resigned from the party, apparently based on recent developments in the party.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Bwala’s resignation is coming hours after the presidential candidate of the APC, Bola Tinubu decided to go for a Muslim-Muslim ticket for the 2023 presidential election.

Tinubu, a Muslim, said he decided to pick the former Governor of Borno State, Sen. Kashim Shettima, who is also a Muslim, as his running mate because he possessed one of the best credentials for the election.

Following the development, Bwala, who is a Special Adviser to Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, announced his resignation from the APC on Sunday night.

“Tonight I officially resigned my membership of @OfficialAPCNg on principles and conviction that I hold so dear. At this time of our national existence, our efforts and energy should gravitate towards uniting our people,” Bwala tweeted.

Why I picked a Muslim running mate – Tinubu

Meanwhile, Tinubu had said he decided to pick Shettima as his running mate because he possessed one of the best credentials for the election.

Tinubu announced Shettima as his running mate in a letter personally signed on Sunday in Daura, when he paid Sallah homage on President Muhammadu Buhari.

Shettima, born on Sept. 2, 1966, currently represents Borno Central at the National Assembly.

“Today I announce the selection of Sen. Kashim Shettima as my partner and running mate in the mission to advance and reclaim the fortunes of this great country and the hopes of its people.

“Shettima’s career in politics and beyond shows that he is eminently qualified not only to deliver that all important electoral victory, but, also, step into the shoes of the Vice-President.

“As a man with the talent, maturity, strength of character, and patriotism, he has my implicit confidence and faith.

“I am aware that many will continue focus on a particular detail, the question of his faith,” Tinubu said.
He added: ”If we truly understood the challenges upon us a country, we must also see the imperative of placing competence in governance above religious sentiments.

“In 1993, Nigerians embrace Chief MKO Abiola and a fellow Muslim running mate, Baba Gana Kingibe in one of the country’s fairest elections ever held.

“The spirit of 1993 is upon us again in 2023, adding that the ticket the APC is presenting, represents a milestone in the country’s political history.

“The ticket symbolises the party’s determination to be a leading light among political parties in Africa.

“The democratic process and the decorum that characterised our presidential primaries and the selection of our Vice-Presidential candidate exemplifies why we are the party of the people and of the betterment of their future.”

Tinubu said that the choice of Shettima would further brighten the APC chances at the poll.

“With this selection the APC surely shall continue to be the party that shows the way and carries this nation towards its best future.

“I implore you all to join me on this journey to a brighter future, as we enter a moment of renewed hope, we have the chance to move the nation and our collective cause forward as never before.

“We seize the moment so that history may write kindly of us, it is time to focus with utmost devotion and love of country to do all we could to advance the ideals of democratic and progressive good governance in the land,” he said.

Tinubu said that APC was focused on tackling the country’s numerous challenges.

“Together, we must end poverty and bring greater prosperity and more lasting peace, we should be wise of thought yet courageous in action.

“As we embark on a collective enterprise that brings jobs, education, food, medicine, hope and belief in a better life to those who need them.

“I stand ready to begin this journey with you, hopefully, to lead the nation on this needed path as your next president by the grace of God.

“I believe this is a pivotal moment at which the dynamics of history and destiny call us forth to reshape our beloved nation, this is our moment,”he said.

Tinubu said that he did submitted his documents to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) shortly after winning the APC presidential ticket.

“In full compliance with existing law and regulation, I submitted all necessary documents regarding my nomination as the APC presidential candidate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“The choice of my Vice-Presidential running mate has remained an open and burning question which gave rise to much speculation and debate.

“What I am, however, is a democrat, and a democrat must listen to, and consult with the people and his advisors so that he may reform and govern wisely and on their behalf.

“This I have done, my political career was not built on blind indifference to the views of others,” he said.
Tinubu added: ”I appreciate the perspectives of leading members of the party, political allies and key national figures who see Nigeria’s future as I do. They gave me their views.

“So that I might add their valuable insights to mine to reach the best decision possible and do so in a manner that strengthens the institutional fabric of our party as well as accelerating the evolution of our political democracy.”

2023: Tinubu, Osinbajo will clearly defeat any PDP candidate excerpt… – APC chieftain

A member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Daniel Bwala, has said that if both Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, decide to run for the presidency in 2023, they have all it takes to defeat their counterparts from the main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Bwala noted that only candidate from the opposition camp that pose a threat to a Tinubu or Osinbajo presidency in 2023 is former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.

Bwala said this on Sunday on a monitored Channels Television programme while analysing the party’s preparedness alongside that of their opponents ahead of the elections.

“These two candidates you’ve mentioned, each of them can clearly defeat any candidate that comes out of the PDP except if the candidate is Atiku Abubakar,” he said.

While neither of them has clearly come out to state their intentions to run, there are talks that they may emerge as possible candidates.

According to Bwala, internal stability is one of the advantages the APC has on its side.

“If you look at the APC in the last one or two years, there is a marked stability and marketability in the party which is the reason you will find a lot of people coming to the party,” he said.

TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that Tinubu returned from London, United Kingdom on Friday night amidst rumours of his presidential ambition after spending weeks abroad undergoing a knee surgery.

Twitter deleted Buhari’s post out of malice –Daniel Bwala

Social commentator and lawyer, Dr Daniel Bwala, has said social media outfit, Twitter, deleted a post by the President Muhammadu Buhari, out of malice but failed to erase the provocative posts of leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

Bwala made this revelation in an interview The PUNCH.

TheNewsGuru recalls that President Buhari on Tuesday, condemned the attacks on police stations, prisons and offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission, especially in the South-East, warning that those supporting insurgence and violence in the country would be shocked.

Buhari had tweeted, “Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War. Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand.”

The President’s tweet irritated some persons who felt he was unmoved to have made an analogy of the civil war. His critics then reported the tweet to Twitter and the microblogging site later deleted the post with a comment, “This Tweet violated the Twitter Rules”.

Commenting on the matter, Bwala, a member of the All Progressives Congress said, “The President did not violate Twitter rules. Twitter deleted Buhari’s tweet out of malice. The founder or owner of Twitter is a known and interested party in Nigeria forgetting that you cannot be a jury and a judge in your own case.

“You will recall during the #EndSARS (protests), Jack Dorsey did not only support the #EndSARS protests but also retweeted the means of contributing to the funds used for the protests.

“That incident cannot be treated in isolation; it has never happened anywhere in the world where the owner of Twitter takes part in the protests of private citizens.

“So, tacitly or obviously, he had indicated expression of dissatisfaction towards the President.”

“Kanu has tweeted what has obviously created crisis that has led to so many loss of lives in Nigeria yet his tweets have not been removed. Do you need any further case to establish that the owner of Twitter is an interested party?” the lawyer inquired.
