Mr Tokunbo Talabi, the Secretary to Ogun Government, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Abeokuta on Thursday.

He explained that the purpose of the allowance was to boost the capacity of the workers for better productivity.

The Secretary said that conversion of the government buses to Compressed Natural Gas by the present administration would be an added advantage to ease workers’ and residents’ mobility.

“The plan to make the payment is what was agreed on with labour unions to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal.

“Apart from the payment of N10,000 to the workers in the state for three months, peculiar allowance is also being paid to every civil servant,” he said.

Ogun chairmen prostrate to beg Gov Abiodun

20 Local Government Chairmen in Ogun State on Tuesday night,at a meeting held with Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, apologised to the Governor for the comment of Mr. Wale Adedayo.

In a viral video on Wednesday, the ALGON chairmen were seen prostrating for the governor.

Adedayo in a petition on Monday lamented that the Local Government Chairmen had been unable to go ahead with projects in the past two years.

Part of the petition reads: “Revenue sources, which the local governments should benefit from have mostly been taken over by the State Government. Motor Parks and attendant dues which should go to each local government are being centrally managed by the State Government. Primary school administration and control have been taken over too. There are many others. But, what I crave is for you to assist in helping our people. Why have they taken over revenue sources of the local government? How do they want the grassroots to breathe?

“In Ijebu East Local Government Area, we are a complete rural section. Our people need roads, especially in the interior. They need water. The Health Centres are nothing to write home about. The primary schools are something else. It is a crying shame that, in 2023 some of our people still depend on water from the stream to drink!

“Be assured that I am readily available to answer any question about what I have written here,”

Subsidy Removal: Oil Marketers Pledge N10 Billion Buses to Boost Mass Transportation

The Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPMAN) has announced plans to donate Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) compliant buses worth N10 billion.

Chairperson of DAPMAN, Winifred Akpani, revealed this during a briefing with State House Correspondents after leading a delegation to the State House for a courtesy visit with President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday.

“We did pledge that we are going to work at providing real mass transit buses that work. The ones that will work on the compressed natural gas (CNG) and diesel interchangeably and hopefully we are going to start with about 50-100 and that is in a very short time,” she said.

The donation comes against the backdrop of the recent removal of fuel subsidy, and it is intended to provide employment opportunities and support the government’s efforts to improve the country’s transportation infrastructure.

The DAPMAN Chairperson emphasized: “These are locally produced vehicles, so we are also providing jobs by using local assembly plants. By not importing the buses, we are reducing pressure on our foreign exchange reserves and creating more jobs for Nigerians”.

She also expressed President Tinubu’s satisfaction with the initiative and optimism that Nigerians would soon recognize the benefits of removing the subsidy on petrol, while urging citizens to support the President’s direction to propel the country forward.

Confirming the details, Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, announced that each bus would cost N100 million and accommodate up to 50 passengers.

Governor Abiodun dispelled notions that petroleum marketers opposed the deregulation of petrol, stating, “This singular step demonstrates their support for this administration’s laudable policy of deregulation.”

He further called on other members of the organized private sector, such as the Bankers Committee, to emulate DAPMAN’s benevolent gesture and take additional measures to alleviate the impact of subsidy removal on Nigerians.

”I have sounded a note of warning at times past, I am resounding a fresh note of warning to all cult members, to their parents, to their landlords, to their sponsors.

“From today, we are considering cult members and other criminals as saboteurs to the economy of not just this local government area, this town but this state. We will consider them as terrorists, I will deal with them as such.

“I have instructed our law enforcement agencies to smoke these people out, I have told the Commissioner of Police that he has no other job until every single member of this cult is found out,” he stressed.

Abiodun disclosed that his administration would establish a Joint Intervention Squad made up of the military, Police, Department of State Security, Civil Defence, and local vigilante to deal with cultism and other related crimes, especially in Sagamu.

“Reports show that there has been a prevalence of cult activities in Abeokuta North, Abeokuta South, Sagamu, Ikenne and Odogbolu particularly, we have been dealing with these issues over time.

” But in the last few weeks, we have began to see an upsurge in the cases of inter-cultist rivalry that has resulted in clashes and killings of innocent people,” he said.

The Akarigbo of Remoland and Chairman, Ogun State Council of Obas, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, in his remarks,  said that people of diverse culture and religion had co-existed in the town for a long time.

He said that the town could not continue to accommodate violence, noting that it was unacceptable.

” What is happening now is not in our culture and it is not in our interest. We have co-existed as brothers and sisters for a long time.

Also speaking, the Seriki Hausawa of Sagamu, Alhaji Garuba Inua, while narrating an incident of a cult clash, said that the crisis was between rival cultists and not a case of the inter-ethnic skirmish.

He pointed out that the Hausa and Yoruba communities engaged in cultism.

Inua said that his people were ready to work with other stakeholders in restoring peace as they had adopted Sagamu as their own.

Also, the Iyaloja of Sagamu, Mrs Folashade Oduwaye, expressed displeasure on the development.
