My daughter almost lost her life to SARS operatives -Ooni

The Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has recognized the ongoing protest against brutality and extortion by Special Anti-Robbery Squad operatives.

Ogunwusi recounted on Twitter that his 25-year-old daughter once had a horrible experience with SARS operatives that almost made her lose her life.

Tweeting through his handle, @OoniAdimulaIfe, he said, “I understand your plight, my 25 year old daughter had a nasty experience with SARS, almost losing her life. On her way to the airport, she was stopped and terribly ransacked and surrounded by fully armed plain clothes policemen in a bus, detained for close to 30 minutes of thorough questioning.

“Imagine a young female for that matter; all her belongings completely searched all because she was with a laptop on an official assignment from her office in Lagos. I can only imagine the countless ones that have lost their lives from such ordeals, may their souls rest in peace.
“I assure you that this is the beginning of greater things to come in Nigeria. I implore you to demand for more, but plead with you to do so in a peaceful manner, as anything outside of that will cause unnecessary havoc for all.”

The king said he was aware that some demonstrators had been unfairly arrested by the police.

He said he would do everything to ensure that they are freed.

Ogunwusi urged the police to understand that the protests would also improve the welfare of men and women of the Force and asked them to see it as such.

The monarch said: “I have been informed of many innocent souls that were arrested and currently being detained, be rest assured that I am pursuing the matter and they will be set free.

“To the men and women of the Nigerian police force, be assured that this movement is also for you, we know you are humans also and your reality is as a result of your environment.

“This movement demands better on your behalf, and is aimed at pushing the government to do better for you and elevate your standard of living. Do not persecute your advocates. God bless Nigerian youths and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

But that has not been my experience. I have a close relationship with my children and the closeness is not just physical proximity. Of course, I would like to spend more time with my children but it is one of the sacrifices one has to make to what one believes in. Something must be sacrificed and for me, it is the time I would have spent with my wife and children. That notwithstanding, I do make out time to spend with them.

  • Abba Kyari never learnt how to drive, daughter reveals in moving tribute

Abba Kyari never learnt how to drive, daughter reveals in moving tribute

Aisha, daughter of Abba Kyari, late chief of staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, has revealed what people hardly know about her father .

In a moving tribute titled ‘My daddy, my best friend’, Aisha defined her late father as an outstanding personality whose wealth of experience cuts across various spheres of life.

She said it was odd, that despite his exposure, he could not drive a car until his demise.

“This may sound odd but my beloved daddy couldn’t drive a car! He never learnt how to drive for a day in his entire life,” she wrote.

She also added that her late father was largely “misunderstood” and “mischievously misrepresented” by some Nigerians, despite his contributions to humanity and nation-building.

“My dad was terribly misunderstood and arguably mischievously misrepresented. Even his age was never gotten right from the day he became Chief of staff till the day he died. My dad died at the age of 67. He was often mistaken for the late Brigadier Abba Kyari who was indeed in his 80’s,” she added.

According her, the decision of the late chief of staff not to defend himself against detractors was to enable him concentrate on his major assignment of serving his principal and the country.

“For clarity, my dad was more than capable of defending himself. The reason he didn’t is that it would have distracted him from his primary assignment of serving his principal and by extension, his country,” Aisha wrote.

  • Man accused of murdering Whitney Houston’s daughter dies at 30

Man accused of murdering Whitney Houston’s daughter dies at 30

The boyfriend of Bobbi Kristina Brown, found liable for her death after giving her a “toxic cocktail,” has himself died aged 30, his lawyer told AFP Wednesday.

Brown, 22, died in 2015 and was the only child of pop legend Whitney Houston and singer Bobby Brown.

The barrister, Joe Habachy, said he could not discuss how his longtime client Nick Gordon died.

“I can say that it’s been truly heartbreaking to have witnessed first-hand the total devastation that drug addiction has wreaked upon a group of young friends, all of whom were loved and had immense potential,” the Atlanta-based Habachy told AFP by email.

In November 2016 a US judge ordered Gordon to pay more than $36 million in a wrongful death suit brought by the estate of Bobbi Kristina Brown.

In an eerie repeat of her mother’s death, she was found unconscious in a bathtub at her Atlanta-area home, while Gordon and a guest were there.

Gordon spent years being raised by Houston in her home and grew up alongside Bobbi Kristina, although he was never formally adopted by the pop singer.

The lawsuit filed by Brown’s estate said he had lashed out at her in a fit of jealousy that evening after being “out all night on a cocaine and drinking binge.”

According to the wrongful death suit filed in Atlanta, Georgia, Gordon gave “Bobbi Kristina a toxic cocktail rendering her unconscious and then put her face down in a tub of cold water causing her to suffer brain damage.”

The medical examiner’s office said it was unclear if Brown’s death was accidental or intentional.

An autopsy determined that she had marijuana, alcohol, cocaine and morphine in her body.

“Despite all of the incredible challenges Nick faced over the last few years I can honestly say that he worked hard to hold his head up and stay sober and that he genuinely wanted a happy healthy life with his family more than anything else,” Habachy said.

“My heart goes out to the family and friends Nick leaves behind and to any other families dealing with the losses and heartache caused by drugs.”

Whitney Houston was found face down in a bathtub at a Los Angeles hotel in February 2012 on the eve of the Grammy Awards.
