    Thousands gather to witness Buhari buried in Daura

    The remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari have been buried at his residence in Daura, amidst tears and prayers by his immediate family members, President Bola Tinubu, Governors, Ministers and the masses, among other thousands of mourners.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports former President Buhari’s body was respectfully laid to rest at about 5:50 pm Nigerian time.

    The burial was also attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, President of Guinea Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló and the Prime Minister of Niger Republic, Ali Lamine Zeine.

    Others were: Service Chiefs, Captains of industry, former governors, representative of the President of Chad Republic, Islamic clerics, and other high profile personalities from within amd outside the country.

    As part of the final honours, a joint Military team rendered a 21-gun salute before the former president was interred at his private residence in Daura.

    Before his final interment, the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, who read Buhari’s citation, described his demise as a profound loss to the country and his immediate family.

    Musa said the late Buhari was a fine soldier, who exhibited high sense of professionalism, discipline,  honesty, integrity and selfless service to the country.

    Earlier on arrival in Daura, the body was received by a mammoth crowd, praising the name of Allah and seeking divine mercy for the former Nigerian leader.

    The  family members of the the late president were allowed to see his corpse for few minutes to offer fervent prayers for the repose of his soul.

    Buhari, a former Military Head of State from 1984 to 1985, returned to power through democratic elections in 2015 and was re-elected in 2019.

    His years in office were marked by anti-corruption campaigns, infrastructural reforms, and a mixed record on security and economic growth.

    Thousand dignitaries, well wishers in Daura for Buhari’s interment

    President Tinubu in company of President Umaro Sissoco Embaló of Guinea-Bissau and Niger Republic Prime Minister, Ali Lamine Zeine, were among thousands of people who attended the funeral rites of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday in Daura, Katsina State.

    The remains of Buhari were conveyed to Nigeria by the Vice President Kashim Shettima and the Chief of Staff to President Tinubu, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila.

    The remains were brought aboard a Nigerian Air force flight FGT 001, which touched ground at the Umaru Musa Yar’adua International Airport, around 2p.m., on Tuesday.

    The body was received by Tinubu, Gov Dikko Radda of Katsina State, National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, Governors and other dignitaries.

    After a farewell parade in honour of the late former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, his remains were conveyed to Daura by road.

    The funeral prayer was led by Imam Hassan Yusuf, after 4p.m., at the Daura Helipad.

    The prayer was performed by many dignitaries, notable among them were the former Nigerien President Mahamadou Issoufou and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.

    Others were members of the National Assembly, Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruk-Umar, that of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir-Usman and Emirs of Zazzau, Dutse and Kazaure, among others.

    Captains of industries like Alhaji Aliko Dangote and Alhaji Dahiru Barau Mangal, also attended the burial.

    After the funeral prayer, the corpse was taken to his personal residence where he was buried.

    The funeral rites were attended by thousands of people who were earlier denied access to the venue but later allowed to enter.

    Some of the people interviewed upheld the virtues of the late former President who distinguished himself for integrity, honesty and discipline.

    Salisu Lawal, said that Buhari was a great man who loved staying with his people and offer a helping hand to them.

    Aliyu Nasiru, another resident, described the death of Buhari as a great loss only to his immediate family, but to enter state and the country.

    “The death has created a vacuum that is difficult to fill, he will continue to be remembered for his good virtues,” he said.

    He prayed to the Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings, grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus.

    The thousands of well-wishers also included former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Emirs of Zazzau, Kazaure, Dutse and the 19th Emir of Kano.

    Other dignitaries at the residents of the late former president are, the Governor of Bauchi, Alhaji Bala Mohammed, former Governors of Kaduna, Malam Nasir El-Rufai Sokoto, Aminu Tambuwal.

    Others are the former Governors of Kogi, Yahaya Bello; Borno, Alimodu Sherif; Ekiti, Kayode Fayemi; Katsina, Aminu Masari, Kebbi, Adamu Aliero.

    Others include former minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, former governor of Kebbi, Adamu Aleru, former IG of Police Adamu, Amb. Babagana Kigebe.

    Other thousands of well-wishers gathered at the venue to bid the former president farewell, where the funeral prayer will take place in Daura.

    The body of former President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived in Daura, Katsina State, for burial.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the body of Buhari was transported from Umaru Musa Yar’adua Airport, Katsina in a motorcade to Daura, his home town for interment

    The body was accompanied to Daura by President Bola Tinubu, Service Chiefs, serving and former governors, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Captains of Industries, Ministers, among others.

    The motorcade with a hearse conveying the body of Buhari departed the Katsina Airport for Daura, a distance of about 88.6km, at about 3.15p.m.

    It was observed that,  while the body was moving out of Katsina, the people of the city turnout in their large number to pay last respect to the former President.

    Buhari was described by analyst as one of the most adored politicians in the recent political history of Nigeria. He passed away in London clinic, on Sunday at the age of 82.

    The aircraft conveying Buhari’s body from London, accompanied by the Vice-President Kashim Shettima and the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, touched the ground at 1:50p.m. at Umaru Musa Yar’adua Airport, Katsina.

    Upon arrival, the body was received by President Bola Tinubu who had earlier arrived the Katsina Airport.

    There was a brief military ceremony held at the airport before the bearer party conveyed the body of the former president into the waiting hearse.

    Katsina extends work-free day for Buhari’s burial

    Following the postponement for the burial of the former President Muhammad Buhari in Daura, the Katsina State Government has also extended its earlier work-free day to Tuesday, July 15.

    The Secretary to the State Government, (SSG), Alhaji Abdullahi Garba-Faskari announced this in Katsina on Monday, in a statement signed by his Director Press, Alhaji Abdullahi Aliyu-Yar’adua.

    According to him, the decision to extend the work-free day from Monday, to include Tuesday, followed an announcement for the postponement of the burial to tomorrow.

    Recall that earlier today, while briefing newsmen at the Government House, Gov. Dikko Radda announced the postponement of the burial.

    The SSG disclosed that the remains of the former president is expected to arrive in Katsina by noon on Tuesday, and the funeral prayer is scheduled to hold at 2p.m in Daura.

    “His Excellency has approved for extension of the public holiday earlier declared, from Monday, July 14, to Tuesday, July 15, 2025, to enable the civil servants and other workers to attend the funeral prayer for the departed great leader.

    “As the nation continues to mourn the demise of this distinguished elder statesman, Gov. Radda requested well-wishers, associates, and members of the public to continue to pray for his gentle soul. Late Buhari dedicated his life to the service of this country.

    “May the Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and give the family, Katsina State, and the entire nation the fortitude to bear this great loss,” Radda prayed.

    The people of Daura have expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Nigerian President, Alhaji Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away at the ripe age of 82 in London.

    Speaking with NAN, the residents described his death as a great loss not only to the people of Daura but to the entire nation.

    “We are heartbroken. Baba Buhari was not only a leader but a symbol of integrity and humility.

    “He represented Daura on the global stage with dignity,” said Alhaji Mustapha Sani, Chairman, Hamdala Transportation said.

    Many people gathered in public squares and Mosques to offer special prayers for the repose of the departed noble, pious, patriotic and humble soul of a son of the soil.

    Politicians, youths leaders, elders and women in Daura have paid tributes, highlighting his legacy of public service, discipline, and love for the country.

    In a condolence message, the community extended heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family, particularly Hajiya Aisha Buhari and the children.

    They prayed that Almighty Allah grant him eternal rest and give his family the strength to bear the loss.

    “Daura will never forget him. He was our pride,” Malam Salihu Usman added.

    The funeral prayers and other arrangements are being anticipated as the community prepares to receive his body for final rites.

    Neighbours recall Buhari’s humility, generosity, discipline

    Meanwhile, some neighbours of the late President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina state, have described him as humble, disciplined and generous in his relationship with all categories of people during his life.

    The neighbours were in grief since his death was announced on Sunday around 4:30pm, at a London clinic at the age of 82 years.

    The residents told NAN in an interview that Buhari would continue to be remembered for his good character and manners.

    The neighbours revealed that the late President’s unwavering simplicity made him to remain deeply connected to his community throughout his life.

    A close neighbour, Alhaji Lawal Nalado, told NAN that Buhari was a leader who never allowed power to change his lifestyle or attitude towards those around him.

    Nalado said Buhari was a humble and disciplined man, even before he rose to national prominence.

    “He valued time, upheld daily prayers, and maintained respectful relationships with people of all ages. Buhari will be remembered for his generosity, particularly during Sallah and other festive periods.

    “During every Sallah celebration, he distributes money, food items, rams and other essential commodities to the less privileged. He never tired of extending a helping hand to those in need,” Nalado added.

    He noted that in spite of holding the highest office in the country, Buhari continued to live modestly and remained approachable.

    “What stood out most about him was his integrity and fairness. He treated everyone equally and never distanced himself from his people,” he stressed.

    Another neighbour, Alhaji Hamisu Ibrahim, praised the former president for his steadfast commitment to his religion of Islam.

    Ibrahim added that beyond his public persona, Buhari was passionate about youth development and moral upbringing.

    “He often advised young people to be disciplined, avoid drugs, and dedicate themselves to education and honest living.”

    Many residents believed that the former President’s legacies would continue to inspire future generations.

    They expressed hope that his values of honesty, patriotism and service would not be forgotten, but passed on through leadership and community mentorship.

    Buhari’s death, a national tragedy — Emir of Daura

    The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruk, has described the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari as a national tragedy and a painful loss to the people of Daura Emirate, Katsina State, and the nation at large.

    Speaking with NAN at the Daura Palace on Monday, the royal father said the death of the former president was a great loss to Nigeria and the entire African continent.

    The traditional ruler said the news of Buhari’s death came as a huge shock to them

    Faruk said,”.We have lost a true son of Daura,a pillar of honesty,and one of the most selfless leaders Nigeria has ever produced.”

    He praised Buhari’s legacy of public service, stating that his contributions to national development, security reforms, and anti-corruption efforts would never be forgotten.

    “President Buhari stood for truth, justice, and accountability. He lived a modest life and placed national interest above personal gain. His passing is a reminder of the great sacrifices he made for this country,” the emir added.

    While praying for the repose of his soul, Faruk called on Nigerians to continue upholding the values Buhari stood for — unity, discipline, and service.

    “We extend our deepest condolences to his family, especially Hajiya Aisha Buhari and their children.”

    Also, the Chairman, Daura Local Government, Alhaji Bala Musa, described Buhari as a man of principle who lived a life of simplicity, devotion to Islam, and service to the nation.

    “We in Daura feel a deep personal loss. He was our father, our mentor, and a proud son of the soil. His humility and honesty will continue to inspire generations,”he said.

    Musa urged the citizens of Daura and Nigerians at large to remain peaceful and united during this period of mourning.

    Shettima arrives London to receive Buhari’s body

    Meanwhile, Vice President Kashim Shettima, on Monday, has arrived in London on the directive of President Bola Tinubu, following the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

    Shettima was accompanied  by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.

    On arrival, the vice-president was received  by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, and the Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno.

    Shettima will accompany the remains of Buhari to Nigeria for burial in Daura, Katsina State. The former leader died in London on Sunday after a prolonged illness.

    NCC donates ICT park to federal university in Daura

    The Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC), has constructed an Information Communication Technology (ICT) park for the Federal University of Transportation Daura (FUTD), in Katsina State.

    The handing over of the building with a 100 capacity hall to the university’s management, by the NCC Executive Chairman, Dr Aminu Maida, was held in Daura on Tuesday.

    Maida said that the park was one of six flagship digital infrastructure projects established by the commission within strategically selected institutions across Nigeria.

    According to him, it represents a vital part of the commission’s broader agenda to accelerate ICT innovation, promote research capabilities, and drive the growth of Nigeria’s digital economy.

    “Technology is one of the greatest drivers of economic transformation in our world today.

    “For our growing economy, it remains our biggest hope; and this means we must create the right environment for it to thrive.

    “The concept of the ICT park is rooted in our vision to promote innovation and digital entrepreneurship in the ICT sector, and to support research and development through the transformation of ideas into market-ready solutions.

    “This is why our ICT parks which we have rightly described as ‘One Roof, Al Possibilities’, serve as one-stop hubs for innovation,” he said.

    Maida said each park stationed under a single roof, consisted a multidisciplinary facility equipped with modern infrastructure, including high-capacity computer labs, simulation rooms, smart networking systems, collaborative workspaces, and halls.

    He said that the spaces were designed to serve as incubation centres for indigenous technology solutions, contributing to the socio-economic transformation of the nation.

    According to him, it is in line with the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy as well as the Strategic Vision of the Minister of Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani.

    “By situating this ICT park within the Federal University of Transportation, Daura, we are deliberately aligning our investment with the institution’s unique academic focus.

    “Our goal is to create an ecosystem where state-of-the-art ICT infrastructure supports advanced education in railway engineering, logistics, and transport management while fostering cutting-edge research and skills development.

    “The facility is designed to enable the integration of emerging technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things, into the transport and mobility systems of the future.

    “I am pleased to inform you that this ICT park is equipped with a 100-scat capacity hall, five ICT hub halls, a 24-seater lounge with eight double computer workstations, multiple workspaces, and offices,” Maida said.

    The NCC boss, who described the park as a state-of-the-art facility, expressed confidence that it would serve the institution excellently in its pursuit of digital development.

    Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Umar Adam-Katsayal, commended the NCC boss for the project, and assured that the institution would ensure that the park was properly used.

    According to him, not only the university community, staff or students, but the community around can also benefit with the facility.

    Former lawmaker who represented  kaduna central, Senator Shehu Sani, has likened Atiku Abubakar’s visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura as ‘trekking in the Sahara’.

    According to Sani, Atiku’s visit to Buhari, would have been okay, if the purpose was related to Sallah.

    He, however, said it’s like trekking in the Sahara, if it was a political mission.

    The Kaduna born politician made this known on his X handle on Sunday.

    His post reads: “If the Daura visit is a sallah homage, that’s okay. If it’s a political mission, it’s like trekking in the Sahara.”

    Recall that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the last general election visited Buhari on Saturday at his residence in Daura, Katsina State.

    Atiku was accompanied by the immediate past Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, alongside other PDP stakeholders.

    I left Daura for London to get some peace – Buhari

    Immediate past president of the federal republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has disclosed that he left Daura, Katsina State, for London to get some peace.

    Buhari explained that visitors have been trooping to visit him in his hometown of Daura since he arrived after the end of his second tenure as president.

    Former spokesperson, Garba Shehu, stated this in a statement on Thursday.

    “He chose to go home in Daura hoping to find the type of quiet he wished for himself, but realizing that this was not the case, visitors trooping in morning, day and night, he moved out to a more distant place,” Shehu said.

    “It remains his wish that he be allowed to have his needed rest, and for the Tinubu administration to have the right atmosphere to work on the realisation of the promises they made.”

    President Bola Tinubu recently met with Buhari in London.

    Recall that Buhari prior to handing over had said he would leave for neighbouring Niger Republic after handing over as President if he is not able to get enough rest in Daura, his home town in Katsina State.

    Former President Muhammadu Buhari is being celebrated in a grand Durbar event held in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.

    The event, organized by the Daura Emirate Council led by Emir Alhaji Farouk Umar, is a tribute to the former president’s service to the nation and attendees at the event include members of the outgone Federal Executive Council and prominent individuals.

    The former president who handed over power to his successor, President Bola Tinubu, on Monday May 29th, traveled from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to his hometown in Katsina State, in preparation for today’s durbar event.

    Former Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, alongside former Ministers of Information Lai Mohammed, Finance Zainab Ahmed, and Women Affairs Pauline Tallen, joined the gathering to honor the former president at the Durbar, a traditional ceremonial gathering.

    Other dignitaries include the new governor of the stateDikko Radda, his deputy Farouk Jobe, former governor Aminu Masari, and several other notable figures.

    The festivities included horse racing and riding by community members and district heads, all dressed in traditional attire and adorned with turbaned caps.

    The welcoming ceremony also involved the active participation of local hunters, political and religious groups, as well as market traders.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that the entire council area was under tight security with law enforcement officers and plainclothes operatives deployed strategically.

    In anticipation of the event, posters of former President Buhari were displayed on walls within and outside the Emir’s palace, while enthusiastic youths were seen proudly wearing T-shirts bearing his image.

    Additionally, it was reported that the former president’s private residence had been freshly painted in preparation for his homecoming.

    The Durbar event showcases the deep connections between the former president and his hometown, highlighting the bond between leaders and the people they represent

    Daura Emirate to honour Buhari today

    Daura Emirate will today hold a traditional durbar, alongside other activities, in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari, in his hometown, Daura, Katsina State.

    Buhari, who handed over to his successor, President Bola Tinubu, in Abuja, yesterday, left the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), for Katsina shortly afterwards. He is expected to receive a rousing welcome from people of his hometown, at the event, which will be hosted by Emir of Daura, Alhaji Farouk Umar.

    The new governor of the state, Dr. Dikko Radda, his deputy, Farouk Jobe, former governor, Aminu Masari, and other dignitaries are expected to grace the occasion.

    Part of the activities include horse racing and riding by hundreds of community members and district heads, adorned with traditional gowns and turbaned caps.

    Local hunters, political and religious groups, as well as market men and women, are also expected to participate in the welcoming ceremony.

    Former President Muhammadu Buhari has returned home to Daura in Katsina State after serving eight years as President of Nigeria.

    Buhari, his wife Aisha and children, arrived Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Airport via a Nigerian Air Force aircraft at about 1:30 p.m.

    He was accompanied by former ministers of Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika, that of Communication and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Pantami, and his Spokesman, Mr Garba Shehu, among others.

    The former President was received by the newly inaugurated Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umar-Radda and his deputy, Alhaji Faruk Lawal.

    Buhari was later conveyed to Daura in a helicopter at about 2:20p.m, and was received by a tumultuous crowd led by the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruk-Umar.

    Daura Emirate Council will hold a  grand durbar on Tuesday to welcome Buhari back home.
