Buhari reveals choice destination after end of tenure

President Muhammadu Buhari has assured the Emir of Daura, Faruk Umar Faruk that he will return to the Daura Emirate and settle down after handing over on May 29, 2023.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports President Buhari made the disclosure on Friday when he visited the Emir of Daura in Katsina State, where he returned all thanks to God for safety in his life’s journey over many years.

Buhari, who visited the Emir’s palace after inaugurating projects in the State, recalled the years of battle during the Nigerian Civil War and some personal challenges as testimonies of divine protection and guidance.

According to the president, the destiny of man, country and the world remains in the hands of God.

Buhari said: “This opportunity to serve the nation comes from God. All over the world, Nigeria is known for its diversity, with different religions and cultures.

“We are also known because we have a huge population of millions of people. For the President of Nigeria, at this time, to come from Daura is the grace and mercy of God.”

The president recalled how he secured his first job early after school to manage a co-operative in Daura, but had to escape and join the Army when there was pressure that he should get married.

”I told Gov. Aminu Masari the story of how I left Daura to join the army. That was how God planned it. We make choices in life, but eventually, destiny is before God.

“I was at the war front during the civil war and saw how many died. Some fell right beside me. God kept me.

“Many bridges were blown just before we arrived at some places, and after we crossed. I arrived at some places to see the bodies of my own colleagues that we were fighting together. I am alive today only by God’s grace,” the president added.

Buhari noted that the Daura Emirate and community gained international recognition by divine purpose, not man’s efforts.

He assured the Emirate that he would return and settle down in Daura, after handing over on May 29, 2023.

“The Emir has spoken extensively and I don’t have much to add. I have three of my classmates that are here today in the Emirate Council.

“I also hear of how the Emir has been giving recognitions and titles to my staff and family members. I am grateful for all the support,” he stated.

The Emir of Daura noted that the survival of the president when his car was bombed in 2014 was a divine act, which happened shortly before he won elections in 2015.

“The visit of the president is historic. He was invited by the governor to inspect and commission development projects.

“The governor has performed exceedingly well, beyond the projects that had been spotlighted. Close to seven years, he has been working for the people and he has made a big impact.

“Gov. Masari is not a thief. The governor has done his best with available resources. He has showcased his record of service by inviting the president to witness progress in the state.

“The president has seen a lot in two days, but he has not seen all. We know the good works of the governor and really commend him,” Faruk said.

The Emir thanked the president for Federal Government projects in the state, and extoled the governor for creating an enabling environment for many to thrive.

“As a state, Katsina benefitted a lot from your position, Mr President and the Daura community remains grateful for all. For a long time, we will be talking about the blessings of God in our domain,” he added.

  • Gbajabiamila wants stringent conditions for new universities

Gbajabiamila wants stringent conditions for new universities

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has called for introduction of stringent conditions for establishment of universities in the country, to ensure high standard.

Gbajabiamila said this at Wednesday’s plenary in Abuja. He was speaking on a report of a bill for the establishment of Federal University, Daura, Katsina State.

He said that the conditions would prevent the proliferation of universities in the country.

“There is a balance between demands by constituents and what is good when we know what is right.

“I think this matter will be resolved when we pass the National University Commission (NUC) bill, where perhaps, we can make establishment of universities more stringent.

“Otherwise, you will run into a situation where a state government or whoever will just come, get a building or three buildings together and say they want a university,” he said.

According to him, the stringent measures will be in place until such a time when the government is no longer funding universities, then you can have 200 in a state.

Earlier, Deputy Speaker Ahmed Wase, faulted the speaker’s position on the matter, saying that many lawmakers have promised their constituents that they would attract tertiary institutions to their areas.

According to him, this is because some lawmakers have promised their constituents a tertiary education.

Also, Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu (PDP-Delta) said that the lawmakers were under pressure from constituents on the establishment of university.

“In my opinion, I think it is not wise to shut down every voice or every member on this floor as it relates to sponsoring a bill for the establishment of either college of education or polytechnic or university in their various communities.

“I said this because when you go tot he constituencies and you are talking to the constituents, most often, the first thing they ask you is; why are you not bringing any school to your constituency?

“And when you say it is not possible and they see your colleagues sponsoring same bills for the establishment of universities, it becomes a negative for you as an individual who is representing them

“So, whether it is assented to by the President or not, it is not the issue; the issue is that member is able to show that he has the interest of his or her constituents at heart,” he said.

Rep. Ifeayi Momoh (APGA-Anambra) faulted the transport university, Daura, establishment bill, saying that the National Institute of Transportation Technology (NITT), Zaria should be upgraded rather than establishing a new university.

“I am just thinking aloud because we have the NITT -Nigeria Institute of Transport Technology – in Zaria

“When there is an institute of transport technology, which deals with the science of transportation itself, why are we now looking at establishing a Federal University of Transportation?

“We can amend the enabling law and upgrade NITT to a federal university; the constant proliferation of universities in our country is not helping us,” he said.

  • No jobs in government anymore – Buhari tells Nigerian youths

No jobs in government anymore – Buhari tells Nigerian youths

President Muhammadu Buhari has urged youths to acquire knowledge not towards getting government jobs as there are no “jobs in government anymore.”

He also urged youths to acquaint themselves with history to avoid making the same mistakes of the past.

According to a statement signed on Wednesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, Buhari said this when he paid a Sallah homage visit to the Emir of Daura, Faruk Faruk, at his Palace.

The statement is titled ‘Train, educate your children on right values, the world is changing, President Buhari tells Nigerians.’

He implored parents to inculcate right values in children, including deep fear of God, respect for constituted authorities and living a purposeful life through continuous education.

“We should ensure the children get proper education. The knowledge they acquire should not be towards getting government jobs.

“We don’t have jobs in government anymore. With technology, governments are becoming smaller, nimble and efficient.

“Emphasis should now be on skills acquisition and competence in creation and deployment of technology. During the COVID-19, we asked all level 12 downwards to stay at home, and surprisingly, the systems worked effectively,” the President said.

He also noted that the younger children should be guided and taught history, as they would find it hard to be patriotic, responsible and respectful, without a thorough understanding of their backgrounds.

“Whoever does not have a good sense of history will easily make mistakes,” he said.

President Buhari told the Emir of Daura, Dr Faruk Faruk, that he will be more regular in visits, preparatory to the handing over in May, 2023, adding that the prolonged absence was due to the demands of his office.

“This is the longest I have been away from home. In fact, the Emir took to the court of public opinion at the prayer ground, when he openly told everyone that I had not visited Daura for close to a year,” he said.

He urged all Nigerians to make sacrifices to move the country forward, especially the public servants, calling for more selflessness and inclusion.

“In the end, it is only God that can reward your efforts, not man,” Buhari noted.

In his remarks, Governor Aminu Masari claimed that, having fed at least 863,000 children under the school feeding programme in Katsina, adding that no government has done more to reduce poverty like the Buhari regime.

He said every contrary view is held by those who “only think of themselves” and are “never appreciative until something gets to their pockets.”

Masari said, “No government in the history of this country has done more to reduce poverty like President Buhari’s administration.

“He asked religious and community leaders to bring enlightenment to bear on successful government programs such as the Social Investment Program, SIP through which 120,000 poor citizens in 12 Local Government Areas of the state receive a monthly payment of N5,000 and this is happening in all the states.

“Today, we have over 863,000 children in the state being fed under the school feeding program. This has created 10,000 jobs for women cooks, 14,000 young men and women enrolled in N-Power.

“We have food vendors who are engaged and earning their livelihood. All the foolish talk on social media is by those who only think of themselves. Our elites are never happy or appreciative until something gets to their pockets.”

Masari who said security in the country had improved considerably under Buhari lamented that “human beings forget easily”.

  • I don’t have any assets for my children to inherit – Buhari

I don’t have any assets for my children to inherit – Buhari

…their net worth is in their heads

President Muhammadu Buhari has revealed that he is not leaving any assets for his children to inherit.

Going memory lane, Buhari said that after his release from jail in December 1988, he told his children that their net worth is what is in the head, not what one has acquired in life.

The President, who spoke in Daura, Katsina State, on Wednesday, implored parents to inculcate the right values in children, including deep fear of God, respect for constituted authorities and living a purposeful life through continuous education.

“I was locked up for more than three years, after leading the country. At that point, I realised and I told my children that your net worth is what is in your head, not what you have acquired in life.

“My focus has always been on training the children to be relevant wherever they find themselves. I told my children, particularly the girls, that they can only get married after getting a first degree.

“They already know that I am not leaving anything for anyone to inherit. My greatest legacy to the children is to ensure they are properly educated,” he said.

The President noted that the younger children should be guided and taught history, as they would find it hard to be patriotic, responsible and respectful, without a thorough understanding of their backgrounds.

His words: “Whoever does not have a good sense of history will easily make mistakes.

“We should ensure the children get proper education. The knowledge they acquire should not be towards getting government jobs. We don’t have jobs in government anymore. With technology, governments are becoming more smaller, nimble and efficient.

“Emphasis should now be on skills acquisition and competence in creation and deployment of technology. During the COVID-19, we asked all level 12 downward to stay at home, and surprisingly the systems worked effectively”.

Buhari therefore charged the youth to seek education, not for government jobs which are unavailable but to arm themselves with skill and ability to fight poverty and to meet the needs of the 21st Century.

The President, who was at the Palace of the Emir of Daura for the Sallah homage, said more time should be given to the coaching of the future leaders, with basic knowledge of moral values, as the fast changing world, driven by new technology, would be more competitive and demanding.

Buhari also told the Emir of Daura, Dr. Faruk Umar Faruk, that he will be more regular in visits, preparatory to the handing over in May 2023, adding that the prolonged absence was due to the demands of his office.

“This is the longest I have been away from home. In fact, the Emir took to the court of public opinion at the prayer ground, when he openly told everyone that I had not visited Daura for close to a year,” he added.

The President said all Nigerians must make sacrifices to move the country forward, especially the public servants, calling for more selflessness and inclusion.

“At the end, it is only God that can reward your efforts, not man,” he said.

In his remarks, Governor Aminu Bello Masari listed the achievements of the President to include social security, which was created to cater for the poor, and ensure that they receive some money at the end of every month.

The Emir of Daura thanked the President for the infrastructural and institutional developments in the state, saying generations will remember and remain grateful to President Buhari.
