I could make Premier League return – David Luiz

Brazilian player David Luiz admits he’s not yet found a new club.

The released Arsenal defender has seen an offer from Olympique Marseille fall through and remains a free agent.

He told the Daily Mail: “It will be the same as before – a club with ambition.

“The offers made so far have not touched my heart. I want to stay at a high level. Maybe it will be in the Premier League. I work everyday. I want pressure, to fight for titles.

“I want that feeling of having to win every week. This is why I have always played football, and why I still play. I want to feel alive.”

Arsenal have confirmed Brazil defender David Luiz will leave the club when his contract expires, while Martin Odegaard, Dani Ceballos and Mat Ryan are also set to depart the Emirates Stadium.

Luiz opted not to accept Arsenal’s offer of a new contract as he called an end to his two-year stay in north London.

The former Chelsea centre-back endured some difficult times with the Gunners as he struggled with inconsistent form before missing the end of this season due to injury.

Luiz, 34, helped Mikel Arteta’s side win the FA Cup in 2020 and gave an emotional speech to his team-mates before their last game of the Premier League season.

“If, in some moments, I did something bad with you guys, sorry, but it was always my intention to give my best for you guys,” Luiz said.

“It was always my intention to help you guys. I think you understood a bit that I am a collective person, so my happiness is to see the others happy. So I try my best.”

Australian keeper Ryan made three appearances during his loan spell but will now return to Brighton.

Real Madrid duo Odegaard and Ceballos returning to the La Liga side following the end of their loan spells.

Denmark midfielder Odegaard joined the Gunners in January, while Spanish midfielder Ceballos spent two years with the club.

Mikel Arteta has opened up about David Luiz’s imminent departure from Arsenal, admitting he feels ‘sadness’ at the centre-back’s impending exit.

Luiz will leave the Gunners on a free transfer once his contract expires at the end of the season, two years after he arrived from Chelsea.

The decision was made after talks held last week and, whilst saying that it was a decision that suited all parties, Arteta is going to miss not having the 34-year-old around anymore.

Paying tribute to Luiz, Arteta said: “He’s a player who has won everything in football and has earned every right to do so through who he is as a player and as a person.

“I had the privilege to work with him for 18 months. I really enjoyed it. I think we got on really good. I think we had some great moments together. He’s been really helpful, someone who we really like and appreciate so much.

“So I say thank you to him and wish him the best of luck in his next chapter because I’m sure knowing David that he will have many more to come as a player and in the future somehow related to the game.”

Arsenal defender David Luiz will leave Emirates this summer.

The 34-year-old met with club officials on Friday when it was decided to sever ties after two years at Emirates Stadium.

Luiz has made 30 appearances in all competitions this season but the Gunners feel they need to look towards the future after a torrid campaign.

It is not known whether the former Paris St Germain and Chelsea defender intends to remain in England.

Luiz, who joined from London rivals Chelsea for £8m in August 2019, has missed Arsenal’s last three games with a hamstring injury.

Mikel Arteta’s side are ninth in the Premier League.

Arsenal considering allowing David Luiz to come off contract this summer.

The Brazilian has made 16 starts for the Gunners this season and was enjoying a resurgence in the team before he was forced to undergo knee surgery this month, with Mikel Arteta instead calling upon Rob Holding, Pablo Mari and Gabriel Magalhaes.

Football.London says while he is valued as an experienced member of the Spaniard’s squad, the club are not currently looking to agree new terms with him.

With William Saliba and Konstantinos Mavropanos both returning from loans at Nice and Stuttgart respectively, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta feels he has enough options at centre-back.

He is particularly keen to give more first-team opportunities to Saliba, it says, who endured a tough start to his Arsenal career after failing to make a single first-team appearance at the beginning of this campaign.

Luiz must accept a pay-cut for Arsenal stay

Arsenal defender David Luiz must accept a pay-cut to stay with the Gunners next season.

The Brazilian defender is currently sidelined for a month after undergoing a minor knee operation on Sunday.

But his contract runs out at the end of the season and the club are reluctant to extend his deal on his current terms of £120,000-a-week, says The Sun.

Luiz, an £8million signing from Chelsea two years ago, has been Mikel Arteta’s most reliable central defender this season but turns 34 later this month.

No definite decision will be made on his future until the end of the season when the club knows if they will be playing in Europe next season.

But having already handed lucrative long-term deals to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Willian last summer, Arsenal do not want to tie themselves to another veteran on huge wages.

Premier League outfit Arsenal have not opened talks with David Luiz about a new contract.

The 33-year-old is a free agent this summer, and the Gunners have not offered him new terms.

And according to football.london, Arsenal want Luiz to accept a player-coach role for an additional 12 months at the club.

He has impressed manager Mikel Arteta, who may find Luiz has a lot to offer youngsters within the squad.

The Brazilian may not be a regular next term, but he could still have a vital role to play.

Don’t worry about Willian, Luiz calms Arsenal fans

Arsenal defender David Luiz has come to the defense of fellow countryman Willian.

Luiz was asked about the winger, who has not hit the ground running since arriving from Chelsea in the summer.

But Luiz believes that Willian is still a quality player, despite being in his 30s, and will show that quality in an Arsenal shirt this season.

“The person Willian, few people know him. But those who know, can’t not say that they love him. Because everyone loves him as a person”, David Luiz told ESPN Brasil.

“The player Willian everyone knows. And everyone knows Willian’s potential. And he doesn’t have to prove anything to anyone after so many years at the high level. And he’s a moment which it’s not so pleasant at the individual level because things are not happening.

“But he’s an experienced, intelligent guy, who knows what he should know, what he must do every day. You don’t see Willian murmuring to train, you don’t see Willian not training. He’s always dedicated, he’s looking for the best, to improve, to grow. You don’t see Willian with an ugly face on the bench. All those things.

“So he’s a guy who will go through this, he will go through this moment and he’ll still bring a lot of joy to Arsenal, to this club. Because there’s this turbulence, just as I had in the first months. I’s not easy, you change clubs, from one rival to another, you have all the cannons facing you.

“Everything you do people will compare. Supporters on one side who loved you are sad because you left and are nervous. Supporters on the other side, who cheered against you, are like, ‘I’m not going to like this guy who came from the other side’.

“You end up feeling, in a way, just a little until you adapt. My first months weren’t easy, and that’s what I try to pass on to Willian. ‘Calm down, things will work out, things will happen. Just keep working because you’re you, there’s no way to change.

“You’re a great person and you’re a great player. Calm down. Things are going to happen’. That’s what we try. Everyone already loves Willian here, so I know that things will happen in the best possible way soon.”

David Luiz has broken his silence after being sent off against Wolves on Tuesday.

The Brazilian was given his marching orders after incidentally clipping Willian Jose inside the box.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta was infuriated with the decision when speaking after the game.

And Luiz seemingly agreed with his manager in a post on Instagram.

“UNBELIEVABLE!!!!” the defender fumed in the post, along with a number of angry face emojis.

Arsenal hero: Arteta should never have signed Willian, Luiz

Arsenal hero Alan Smith says David Luiz and Willian shouldn’t be with the club.

Smith believes Arteta made a mistake with deals for David Luiz and Willian.

He told the Evening Standard: “I was surprised when he re-signed David Luiz, and I was surprised when he brought Willian into the club.

“That’s costing a lot of money in wages, and it would have been nice to have gone for youth rather than a couple of players that have achieved everything really they need or want to in the game.

“I thought that was a mistake by him.”
