    Shame on you, Mocheddah knocks D’banj over rape allegation

    Nigerian singer cum rapper, Mocheddah has berated D’banj who was accused of raping, arresting and intimidating a woman named Seyitan Babatayo.

    Mocheddah noted that D’banj should be ashamed of himself.

     

    The ‘Ko ma roll’ singer made this known on Wednesday when she shared screenshots of statement released by Babatayo in which she asserted that D’banj did attempt to force her into withdrawing her allegation.

     

    She wrote, “Shame on you, Dbanj. Shame on you for being the bully you have shown us you are. Shame on you for silencing a young woman from speaking her truth…

     

    “The power of your influence puts the onus on you to act right, but Regardless of your status, you are a man first .many might say this case is about cloth chasing, but takeout your bias towards your favorite and replace him with regular joe, wouldn’t you want the same Justice?   • D’banj is not a UN ambassador – UN declares

    The United Nations has averred that D’Banj, is not a United Nations Youth Ambassador for Peace.

     

    The Director of Information, United Nations Information Centre for Nigeria, Joseph Kayanja, made this known during an email chat with Punch.

    TheNewsGuru recalls that back in 2012, D’banj’s publicists had stated that the musician was the first Nigerian to be appointed a UN Youth Ambassador for Peace.

    Answering the inquiry, the UN noted that D’Banj was never at any time given the title of ambassador .

     

    The email read in part, “I would like to confirm that the said Mr. Oladapo Oyebanjo aka D’Banj is NOT a UN Ambassador. The title was accorded to him by an obscure UN youth association which has nothing to do with the United Nations. I hope this clarifies.”

     

    The self-proclaimed ‘Eja Nla’ is currently a subject of police investigation.

     

    Seyitan’s friend, Benjamin Ese, in a Twitter thread in early June, had shared the story of how D’Banj allegedly raped Seyitan at Glee Hotel, Lagos two years ago – in December 2018.

     

    The musician, however, debunked the allegations levelled against him and asked the complainant to make a public apology and also pay him the sum of N100m in damages.

    D’banj’s rape accuser, Seyitan Babatayo has released a statement addressing all that has happened since she came out with her claim

     

    In her statement, Seyitan insisted that she was raped by D’banj. She also claimed that he arrested and intimidated her after she came out with her story then threatened that he can buy off anyone within the justice system in Lagos.

     

    Seyitan added that on June 6, 2020, she went to the Bar Beach police station in Victoria Island to make a formal report but she was not attended to. Seyitan said her attempt was “thwarted by an officer of the law at the said police barracks”.

     

    On June 16, the alleged rape victim said four armed police officers stormed her apartment and arrested her without a warrant. She said they gained entrance by pretending to be delivery guys.

    Embattled singer, D’banj has claimed that he is innocent until proven guilty of a rape allegation levelled against him by a lady identified as Seyitan Babatayo.

     

    The video below shows the singer dancing to his hit song titled ‘Olorunomaje” which talks about people wanting his ruin.

     

    In the caption, D’banj who has been heavily criticized on social media over the allegation revealed that he stands against rape and human rights violation.

     

    He said: “Innocent until proven guilty. STOP SOCIAL MEDIA TRIAL. #SAY NO TO RAPE AND HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION.”

     

    This comes after the complainant was reported to have been arrested by the police just hours after the singer demanded an apology and the sum of N100 million on grounds of defamation.

     

    Seyitan took to Twitter where she described the report of her arrest as false.

     

    This was questioned by many who responded with claims that she must have been pressured to tweet a recant.

     

    The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Adamu Mohammed has now ordered a probe into the rape allegation.

    RAPE SAGA: Over 14,000 persons sign petition to strip D’Banj of UN ambassadorship

    Over 15,000 persons have signed an online petition calling on the United Nations to strip Oladapo Oyebanjo aka D’Banj of his appointment as United Nations Ambassador for Peace.

    They also called the attention of brands such as Heritage Bank Africa, One Africa, CSA Global, and other establishments associated with D’Banj to end their commercial relationship with him and stand in support of victims of sexual violence.

    The petition was created by one E.Pooola on Change.Org had hit over 14, 000 as at the time TheNewsGuru(TNG) filed this report on Friday.

    It read in part, “We call on the United Nations, and United Nations Women Africa organisations to remove Nigerian artiste Mr Dapo Oyebanjo as a youth ambassador and distance themselves from his actions following the sponsored kidnap of Seyitan who accused D’Banj of rape and sexual assault which happened in 2018.

    “Women in Nigeria are increasingly at risk of sexual violence and the United Nations and United Nations Women Africa as an entity committed to the empowerment of women should not be seen to associate themselves with alleged rapists, abusers, and kidnappers.

    “We ask the United Nations and United Nations Women Africa to support and lend their influence in helping Seyitan get justice for the abuse she endured in 2018 and the harassment and bullying in the past weeks.”

    Mohammed Adamu, the Inspector-General of Police has ordered a probe into the allegations of rape levelled against Afro-pop singer , Dapo Oyebanjo aka D’Banj.

     

    This is contained in a letter with reference number CB.7000/IGP.SEC/ABJ/VOl.484/801 signed by the Principal Staff Officer to the IG, DCP Idowu Owohunwa.

     

     

     

    The letter was addressed to the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force Criminal Investigation Department, Area 10, Garki, Abuja.

     

    The IG’s letter was in response to a petition written to the IG by Mr. Tommy Ojoge-Daniel, a lawyer to Miss Seyitan Babatayo, who accused D’Banj of raping her in 2018.

     

    The letter written by the IG is titled, ‘Re: Petition Against (1) Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo (Aka D’Banj) for Rape Indecent Sexual Assault, Attempted Assault on Miss Seyitan Temidayo

     

    The letter read in part, “I forward herewith copy of letter dated June 5, 2020 received from Ojoge, Omileye and Partners on the above underlined subject. I am to respectfully convey the directive of the Inspector-General of Police that you treat.

     

    “Accept the assurances of my esteemed regards please.”

    Mavin Records boss, Michael Ajereh, better known as Don Jazzy, has given his opinion on the rape accusation against his former business partner, Oladapo Oyebanjo aka D’banj.

    A lady identified as Seyitan had accused D’banj of raping her at Glee hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos, in 2018.

    Recounting the incident via her twitter handle, @seyitannn_, she said that he raped her in her room. She ended her tweets by demanding an apology.

    However, D’banj went silent on the matter until June 16 a week after his 40th birthday celebration.

    The singer, through his lawyers, Mike Ozekhome, demanded that Seyitan pays the sum of N100m within 48 hours or risk legal action.

    However, incidents took a different turn barely 48 hours after the Nigerian singer’s action.

    BBC Investigative Journalist, Kiki Mordi, took to Twitter to allege that Seyitan was arrested and pressured to retract her rape statement – a claim Seyitan said was untrue.

    She said: “I don’t know where all these rumors are coming from. I and my mom were not and have not been arrested.”

    Seyitan also added that she is moving on from the drama surrounding the rape allegations.

    “I’m done with all these back and forth drama…Frank took me to the party and gave me the key to the room. I’m moving on and leaving everything behind me. Thanks and God bless,” she tweeted.

    However, despite her statements, many commentators stated that she was forced to change her statement.

    Reacting on Thursday, Don Jazzy condemned rape and also urged the public to give those who get accused of rape a chance to prove their innocence before the law.

    Seyitan Babatayo, who accused popular Nigerian singer, D’banj, of raping her has been ‘forced’ to delete her tweets describing her encounter with the singer in 2018.

    Ms Babatayo’s lawyer, Olamide Omileye of Ojoge, Omileye, and Partners, said their client deleted the tweets under pressure while in police custody on Tuesday.

     

    According to him, Babatayo was forced to post new tweets claiming that she was not arrested and that she wanted to move on from everything.

     

    “They forced her to make those new tweets when she was in custody. They forced her to delete all her tweets and intimidated the hell out of her life,” he told Premium Times.

     

    Ms. Babatayo’s legal representative also said the issue has spiraled beyond her expectations as she was only out “to speak her truth, tell her story so everybody can move on”.

     

    “The girl has been so traumatized since she was released. She couldn’t believe it. When she was relating what happened to us yesterday, she was crying so much that.

     

    “She said she slept in the same room, on the floor with criminals. She couldn’t believe that she was made to go through that by the Nigerian Police, just because she wanted to tell her own story”.

    TheNewsGuru recalls that the drama began when a Nigerian model scout, Benjamin Ese, alleged that D’banj raped his friend on December 31, 2018, at Glee Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos.

    After the allegation made on June 3, the lady came out to narrate her own experience with D’banj.

    She, thereafter, demanded a public apology from the singer through her lawyers.

    TheNewsGuru recalls that Nigerian model scout, Benjamin Ese had alleged that Dbanj raped his friend (Seyitan) on December 31, 2018, at Glee hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos.

    In a post shared via her Twitter page on Wednesday, June 17, 2020, the young lady said she was moving on with her life.

    She went on to negate the claims that she was arrested alongside her mother.

    “I’m done with all these back and forth drama…Frank took me to the party and gave me the key to the room. I’m moving on and leaving everything behind me. Thanks and God bless,” she tweeted.

    I don’t know where all this rumors are coming from. Myself and my mom were not and have not been arrested.”

    Seyitan’s tweets came barely a few hours after the rumours started filtering that she was arrested by the music alongside her mother.

    He wrote: ”Today is exactly 1 week after my birthday and this will be the only time I will address the recent false allegations and lies from the pit of hell. I have chosen to do so because the incident is a slap to my marriage and my beautiful wife, my entire family, and those who believe in me,” he wrote.

     

    “I did not want to dignify the slurs with a response but it appears my silence has empowered my Accusation are false and ludicrous and Have been handed over to my Legal Team, while the Nigerian Police is Investigating the Criminal aspect of it.”from the pit of the hell.

     

    “It’s unfortunate that this is coming a few weeks before the second anniversary of my late son Daniel And this well-timed falsehood has reopened the painful scars of my deep loss.
