  • Lady who accused D’banj of rape, demands apology

Lady who accused D’banj of rape, demands apology

A Nigerian lady identified as Miss Seyitan Babatayo who accused D’banj of sexual assault has demanded an apology from the entertainer

The young lady through her lawyer demanded a private and public apology. She also threatened to institute criminal charges against Dbanj’ if he does not comply.

    A letter from her lawyer reads in part;

“Our brief details the following narrations as recounted by our client in establishing the premise for her request as follows.

On 30th December 2018, our client was invited to an All-White Rendezvous Party at Eko Atlantic City by your former manager who at that point in time was your manager, one Mr Franklin.

The party ended a bit late and our client was stranded on the Island as she could not find a way back home. She was thereafter faced with the option of following one Oyinda and her boyfriend to their hotel room at Glee Hotel Victoria Island to wait for Mr Franklin who invited her. Oyinda’s boyfriend is one of your friends and Oyinda is well known to you.

When Mr Franklin came to Glee Hotel, he was in a hurry and did not drop from his car. Our client had to meet Mr Franklin at the parking lot and Mr Franklin gave up his room at the Glee Hotel to our client and gave her the key-card to the room so she can pass the night and find her way home the following morning. Mr Franklin thereafter slept off after the conversation with Oyinda with the door of her hotel room locked.

At about 3 am on 31st December 2018 while our client was fast asleep, you gained access to the room where our client was sleeping with an extra key-card and forcefully had canal knowledge of our client without her consent and with the threat that you will send her out of the hotel naked if she screams or attempt to alert people that she was about to be or is being raped. After having the said forced sexual intercourse with our client, you left without uttering a word to our client.

The following morning, our client narrated her ordeal to Oyinda and Oyinda’s boyfriend who showed sympathy with her. Oyinda’s boyfriend latterly gave our client a $100 (one hundred dollar) note to check herself for possible infection and get some contraceptives since she just had unprotected sex.

The aftermath of the incidence has been damaging to our client’s psychological, physical and emotional being. Our client’s state of being has been totally eroded wit the rape incidence and she has once had the thought of ending it all by taking her own life.

This was further exacerbated by your present stand against rape and sexual violence against women when indeed you have once perpetrated the crime against her and you never apologize to her.”

  • How I became African Michael Jackson- D’Banj

How I became African Michael Jackson- D’Banj

Afro-pop singer, Dapo Oyebanjo a.k.a D’Banj is undoubtedly one of the most energetic artistes from this climes. The former Don Jazzy partner has recounted how he came about the moniker ‘African Michael Jackson’.

D’Banj who would be celebrating his 25th anniversary later this month stated that Wyclef Jean gave him that name.

Speaking in a chat with Joey Akan, he said:”I knew I was talented. But I was in the midst of people I felt were more talented than me. What I thought then was I was going to be like Usher. But when I saw my true aura was maybe after we released the first album, which was March 2, 2005. The “No Long Thing” album. I think it was between 2006 and 2007, that whole time. The Hip-Hop Awards with the towel, there was something just different that I felt then. I now went to the first MTV Road to the MAMAs in Kenya and I was in the Tribe hotel, I remember. Sound Sultan was there, quite a lot of people were there, and Wyclef Jean was there. And I looked up to Wyclef a lot because of what he’s done with the Fugees. And so we were all in the same hotel, but one way or another, everybody always ended up in my room. People wanted to be in my own room.

“ And I didn’t have to try to do anything different from what I did. I just found that that day, everybody just came into the room. And Wyclef looked at me before he left and said ‘I’ve met Micheal Jackson, I worked with him on this project. I can’t remember the project. He held me and said, ‘you are African Micheal Jackson.’ That was where the name came from. I was going to perform at MTV the next day, so I quickly had them give me this white head bandana and I told them to write “AMJ” on it. And if you check the pictures, Road to Mamas was where it started me singing. It was like when you’re a beacon of hope. A vessel of hope. That’s how it was”.

  • D’banj breaks silence over rape accusation

D’banj breaks silence over rape accusation

Days back, Nigerian pop star, D’banj was accused of rape by a Nigerian model scout, Benjamin Ese.

His accusations came after the singer joined the campaign against sexual violence and demanded justice for rape victims in a post on his Instagram page.

The Koko Master post read: “#NoMeansNo, we need to raise our sons in the right way and teach them to love and respect women.

“We need justice for our girls, Say no to rape, racism and tribalism. Let us stop living in FEAR and HATE , and start living in LOVE.”

Responding to his post, one Otunba Benjamin, known as @action_ben, took to his Instagram page, alleging that Dbanj has no right to speak against rape, claiming that he raped his friend.

He claimed that Dbanj had some time raped his friend after he offered her N200,000 in exchange for sex, and she refused.

As expected, D’banj has finally broken his silence over the rape accusation.

In a statement released by his lawyers, the singer debunked the allegation, adding that it’s an attempt to ruin his character.

    Read the statement below:

    Dear members of the public,

Our attention has been drawn to the false allegations purported by Benjamin Ese and Aunty Seyitan who labeled our client, Nigerian musician Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo professionally known as Dbanj a rapist.

    .

    .

Prior to the widespread of the deep-seated lies targeted to taint the image and reputation of our client- Dbanj, as an organization we have a strict policy of ignoring clout chasers and cyberbullies and we refrain from engaging with them, but not this time.

    .

    .

This is a calculated attempt to ruin Dbanj’s long-standing character and career, as well as disrupt on-going plans for his 40th birthday and album release. Not to talk of devaluing and trivializing the conversations that are currently being held to emancipate and tackle the challenges faced by the girl child.

    .

    .

On behalf of our client D’banj, the management of DKM would like to reaffirm zero tolerance for any kind of sexual abuse and particularly frowns at any action that exploits women and the infringement of their rights. We strenuously deny the rape allegations and express our sincerest apologies to rape survivors and victims of this dastardly act.

    .

    .

As of now, our legal team are fully involved and will address this matter with the necessary legal actions in pursuance to the full extent of the law to ensure that this malicious act of blackmail and character defamation does not occur again.

We understand that this is causing huge concern. However, an internal investigation has been launched and we assure the public that we are taking this matter very seriously to establish the details.

    .

    .

We still say NO to Sexual Violence, Racism, and Tribalism”

Otunba noted that he decided to tell the story after he saw D’banj’s post condemning rape, which he says is hypocritical.

In his words:”How you have the courage to post about rape is what baffles me. Quick story time—On the 30th of December 2018 at eko Atlantic an event called splash off which was an all white party, franklin your manager then invited my friend to the party,On getting there Dbanj sighted her and sent few people to talk to her but she refused. My friend left the party and went to glee hotel in Vi where she was lodged by her friend franklin cos my friend couldn’t go back to the mainland that day. My friend got a call from oyinda who at that time was dating dbanjs friend, telling my friend the amount of money dbanj was ready to spend on her if he agrees, but my friend turned down the offer because she wasn’t interested.

“ Dbanj drove all the way from Eko hotel where he was lodged and came down to glee hotel in Victoria island at midnight 2:40am and collected the spare key from the receptionist, obviously it’s dbanj a fucking celebrity rapist, he would be given a spare key, got into my friends room and forcefully threatened he would walk her out of the room naked,Kept his fingers in her Vagina and repeatedly raped her. My friend was crying and dbanj turned deaf ears how wicked and heartless!!! And immediately he did that Dbanj left. So you still have the right to post on Rape it’s been two years my friend has been traumatized over this. And as at yesterday she threatened to commit suicide, she’s so livid and mad seeing a rapist like you post this. Take this post down and stop clouting, stop being a preacher of Rape cos you’re a rapist. I know I don’t have the power to push this but all Rapist will die miserable deaths”.

I am happy that over time I have been able to channel that into my music, which is more important for me. You haven’t heard any of them yet but very soon…because the most important thing that I believe and pray for is restoration. • I keep my private life private- D’banj

Celebrated pop star, D’banj has revealed that he keeps his private life from the public glare. The ace entertainer fondly called ‘Eja Nla’ also noted that it is difficult striking a balance between his music and marriage.

In a chat with Vanguard, he said:”It’s been very hard but the truth is one just has to understand what he/she is doing. When you see the actors or footballers in the club, they’re just normal people, but when the footballers put on their jersey and get on the field, they’re different people entirely

I was with Obafemi Martins in the club recently and he was just a normal person but when he wears the jersey, he’s a different person. So like I said, one just needs to understand what you do. As an entertainment person, it’s part of me. When I wear my costume as D’Banj, I get to entertain my people but then I’ve my privacy and if you check it properly for the last decade, even if I’m out there I keep my private life very private. If you know how to strike a balance and then God blesses you with the right wife that can understand then you’re good”, he said.

The award winning former Don Jazzy business partner has been in the decade for more than a decade. Sharing the secret behind his relevance, he said:”I really don’t know, I just do what I do. But I think it’s just by doing what I know how to do best and being true to myself, being original. Also, believing in God and touching base with your foundation, where you’re coming from. For a very long time I’ve always tried to understand my calling, I think that’s one thing that has helped me to get to this level and it’s been an interesting ride.”

  • I block people who speak negatively about D’banj, Korede Bello – Don Jazzy

While some fans may get excited when trolls blast D’banj over leaving Don Jazzy, the Mavin Records boss has said he blocks anyone who speaks negatively about his former business partner.

Don Jazzy made this known in a tweet on Thursday.

“Most of the people i have blocked are people that said something bad bout dbanj or korede. so think well maybe u insulted skales or his wife. Could be from any angle sir. we sef we be human beans hehe. yes beans,” he wrote.

In a recent interview, the award winning music producer said he is not in a hurry to get married.

“I don’t bring up issues about my relationship status on purpose. People always talk about it.

“It is not difficult to find a wife; there are many beautiful women out there. It is not like I am ready; I am not the perfect version of what I would like to be to my wife and family.

“I want to work on myself until I am ready. By the time I am ready, if someone still wants to be with me, that would be great.

“It is not like I am looking for a wife and cannot find one. There are lots of nice and beautiful ladies out there. I don’t think I am there yet. I am not in a hurry.

“If time passes and nobody wants to marry me, then so be it but for now, I don’t feel I have worked on myself enough.

“I don’t want a scenario where I would get married and my music or business would take me away and the next thing would be that my wife would start complaining that I am hardly around. Then people would start saying he doesn’t care about his family. I don’t need that type of talk in my life.

“Let me be on my own, whenever I am ready, I am ready. I have a girlfriend; I have had different girlfriends in the last 10 years. I can’t just be single; I never said I was celibate. The relationship can break, she can leave me and go, and it is possible.

“My other ex-girlfriends left me, they didn’t break my heart, they just moved on, some of them are married now, if they were still waiting for me, they won’t be married by now.

“People have their personal agendas and it is understandable. For me, I am not in a hurry”, he told Punch.
