  • New generation record labels are founded by ‘Yahoo boys’-D’banj

Nigerian pop star and record label boss, Dbanj has thrown a jab at record label owners in Nigeria. The self-proclaimed Eja Nla who was one of the panelist discussing the topic, ‘Changing The Game: Artistes As Leaders’ at the 2018 Social Media Week Lagos, said most new generation record labels are owned by ‘Yahoo boys’.

According to him: “Most of the new generation record labels are founded by Yahoo boys. You must understand first, why are you coming into music. Nigerian artistes need a lot of capacity building. It is only in Nigeria that the owner of a record label doesn’t know anything about music.”

The DB records boss revealed that he pursued his passion for music because of his fear of poverty.

He said: “Just like any product, you must always evolve. The fear of being poor made me think outside the box. This is one of the factors that drove me into music”.

In April 2011, D’banj was interviewed by BET’s April Woodard. The interview, titled “Welcome to America”, was a platform for D’banj to introduce himself to the American Music Industry and audience which he stated he was going to get into. In the interview, D’banj spoke on a wide range of topics including his music, artists he’d like to work with, his parents, Mo’Hits Records, his love life, and his role models: Kanye West, Usher, Jay-Z, R. Kelly, and others. The interview lasted 125 minutes, and was the avenue used to formally declare his determination to lead African music into many quarters that it has yet to reach.

  • If I got stuck in an elevator, I won’t call Don Jazzy- Dbanj

Social media was awash with excitement when Mo’hits crew reunited at Davido’s 30Billion Concert in December 2017.Old record labels mates like Don Jazzy, Dbanj , D’Prince and others reunited on stage performing their old hit songs.

In a recent chat with Net TV, Dbanj revealed that if he got stuck in an elevator, he won’t call Don Jazzy.

He said: “If I got stuck in an elevator I won’t call Don Jazzy, I will rather send him a direct message on social media. Baba is much more on social media than on phone”.

When asked who he would pick between Tiwa Savage and Yemi Alade, he said:” If I were to pick between Tiwa Savage and Yemi Alade, I will go for both of them because I am an Oliver Twist”.

  • My stubbornness is the secret of my relevance- Dbanj

With changing music trends and music genres, Dbanj a.k.a Koko master has remained relevant against all odds. The self-proclaimed ‘Eja nla’ noted that his stubbornness has helped him remain relevant.

Speaking in a chat with Net TV: “I have been able to remain relevant because I am stubborn. When I released the ‘Entertainer’ album in 2008 I never knew the grace of God will bring me this far. One also has to be very hardworking. You have to be true to yourself, very determined. One has to believe in one’s source, and if you know your source, you can always re-invent’ yourself. Change is constant but you have to change and adapt and make sure you are giving value”.

When asked how Davido was able to make the Mo’ Hits reunion possible, he said: “When I got the call from Davido, I knew it was not going to be easy, in fact, he gave us N15Million out of his 30 Billion(okay I was joking) He had already spoken to every other person before me because I was out of town and when he eventually told me, the first thing I asked him was if he had called Don Jazzy. David told me he was just returning from Don Jazzy’s house at midnight”.

  • You can’t say you don’t care what the tithe is being used for- Daddy Freeze blasts D’banj

Anti-tithing advocate and media personality, Daddy Freeze has condemned D’banj for stating that he pays his tithe. Recall that during Omotola’s birthday bash, the singer said he does not care what pastors do with his tithe.

Daddy Freeze in his usual fashion has taken to Instagram to disprove D’banj’s stance on tithing.

He said: “@iambangalee you appreciate my opinion, thank you and I extend you the same courtesy.

“However, you can’t say you don’t care what the tithe is being used for, that’s wrong!

“It’s why Nigeria, that produced the most people living in extreme poverty on earth, according towww.worldpoverty.io also produced the worlds richest pastors according to Forbes, it doesn’t add up!

“Pastors are disobeying Christ by building schools with tithe money, yet poor church members can’t attend, in contrast to Teachings of Jesus who instructed us to love one our neighbors as ourselves, this he said is the the greatest commandment: MAT22-37-40 These same pastors in their uttermost hypocrisy are telling us to obey malachi while they disobey jesus!

“Nigeria with a population of less than 200 million, has 82.8million people living in extreme poverty, far more than India with a population of 1.3billion which has only 81.5 million poor people.

“Tithe is not, was not and will NEVER be a part of Christianity. Jesus never collected tithes, The disciples and apostles never collected tithes either.

“Jesus NEVER collected first fruit offering either…. our first pastors the disciple and apostles didn’t collect it.

“It’s a curse to obey ‘ tithe’ and ‘first fruit’ under the law and disobey the rest of the law of moses.

“Moses brought the law, but Jesus Christ brought grace and truth.- John 1:17.

Tithing is not of grace. It is of the law.- Matthew 23:23.◄ Galatians 3:10 ►

NIV For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse, as it is written:

“Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.

“◄ Galatians 5 ►[1] So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law. [4] For if you are trying to make yourselves right with God by keeping the law, you have been cut off from Christ! You have fallen away from God’s grace.”

  • How Davido reunited Mo’Hits Crew- Dbanj’s manager

The Nigerian music industry is still yet to recover from the shock of seeing the former Mo’ Hits stars perform together at Davido’s ‘30 Billion Concert’.

After a lengthy hiatus the former label mates: D’banj, Wande Coal, Don Jazzy, D’prince, Dr. Sid and K Switch, reunited on stage performing some of their old hit songs.

Following speculations hinting that the stars must have been paid huge amount of money to perform together on stage after their rift in 2012, Dbanj’s manager has debunked the claims.

Speaking in an interview with Punch, Frank noted that Davido spoke to them individually and was able to convince them.

According to him: “Let us not get things twisted, not a dime exchanged hands for any reason. The entire performance was not motivated by money at all. It was Davido’s initiative, he wanted it to happen at his show so he went for it and he got what he wanted. He spoke to all of the former Mo’Hits crew members individually, they saw his point and they granted his request. Davido is a good kid, he spoke to every member of the Mo’Hits crew. He thought about having a Mo’Hits reunion at his show and he got it.

“It was an exciting show and D’banj loved the performance. Davido made the request that they do a reunion at his show and D’banj simply honoured his request. He wanted the Mo’Hits crew to perform at his show because they were people he looked up to before his career started. He made a request and they all agreed that it could be done. Before the performance, everybody was backstage having fun and when they were through with the performance, they all went to the green room and the atmosphere was a lovely one. I was there with them and if you had the opportunity to have seen them bond, you would not have even believed that they ever broke up. There was no awkwardness at all. It was the same ambiance that surrounded them when they were still Mo’Hits.”
