Stop wishing me dead, you need me alive – Obasanjo warns Nigerian youths

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has warned Nigerian youths to stop wishing him and other elder statesmen dead saying they (the elder statemen) are needed alive for mentoring and advice.

The former president gave the advice while speaking at the youth governance dialogue held by the Youth Development Centre of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun state.

Obasanjo, who described the current agitations across the country as an expression of frustration, admonished youths not to lose hope.

According to Obasanjo,“Don’t wish us dead; don’t wish us to disappear because you will need us. You need us to mentor and prepare you for the future. You need our experience and assistance of some of us to guide you through life.

You should not lose hope, you should not feel frustrated. Whenever I go abroad, they always ask me what my fear about Nigeria and Africa is, and I tell them my greatest fear is youth anger, frustrations and youth explosion which have no bound.

We have the Boko Haram in the north, the MASSOB and IPOB in the south-east, the militants in the Niger Delta and the Oodua Peoples Congress in the south-west. All of these are the expression of anger and frustrations.”

  • Some politicians sponsored soothsayers, pastors to pray, ensure Buhari’s death – aide

Some politicians sponsored soothsayers, pastors to pray, ensure Buhari’s death – aide

President Muhammadu Buhari’s Personal Assistant on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie, yesterday alleged that some members of the political elite in Nigeria travelled to Niger Republic and India among other countries to hire marabouts to ensure the President dies.

She claimed that the same set of people also engaged pastors and bishops to pray for the President’s death and that the religious leaders resorted to attacking Buhari when he did not die despite their prayers.

Onochie disclosed this on her Facebook page just as the President’s latest medical vacation entered its second week.

She however did not disclose the identities of the politicians and the pastors she claimed were hired.

The presidential aide said there must be a reason why the politicians did not want to see Buhari in power.

She said that was why they rigged him out in his first three shots at the Presidency and now they wanted him dead after he got his victory at the 2015 presidential election with the support of the card readers introduced by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Onochie alleged that before the election, when it was obvious that Buhari would win, the politicians “scammed” former President Goodluck Jonathan to postpone the election so that they could further empty the treasury.

She wrote, “There must be a reason why some members of the political elite in Nigeria do not want to see President Muhammadu Buhari in power. They rigged him out of elections in the past and now that Nigerians overpowered them with the support of the card reader, they want him dead.

“In 2015, when it was obvious the electorates had their eyes set on him, they scammed President Jonathan to postpone the election and to further empty the Nigerian treasury so they could ‘buy’ more electorates.

“But they knew Nigerians were not ready to be bought so they pocketed the campaign loot. Those who took part in the scamming of ex-President Jonathan, are being asked to cough up and the junkiest of them all, is cursing and swearing because he is being held accountable.

“Transition was a scam. Financial books were cooked. They tried to cover up their financial wickedness and recklessness against this nation. They hired some school dropouts, products of their 16 years of mis-governance across the nation, to try to disrupt the nation.

“And then they hired red, green, blue, and all shades of media outfits to unleash a coordinated attack on his government. Bravely, he soldiers on.

“They travelled as far as Niger Republic, India, etc. and in vain, they engaged the services of marabouts and soothsayers (mere men), to their own disappointments.

“Pastors and bishops (mere men), whose unholy services were engaged to pray for his death, resorted to attacking him once they have prayed and he did not die.”

Onochie further alleged that the unnamed politicians had been announcing the President’s death on cloned websites, therefore raising exaggerated concerns about his health.

  • Alleged threat to life: Lasun lacks respect for the dead – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has condemned a statement issued on behalf of Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Lasun Yusuf, on the threat to his life following the death of Senator Isiaka Adeleke.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that the Deputy Speaker claimed that the death of Senator Isiaka Adeleke last Sunday was a mystery and that he does not want to die in similar circumstance.

The Deputy Speaker alleged that he has been threatened severally for expressing his interest to run for the governorship race of Osun State.

Howevr, in a swift reaction, the APC Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy, Kunle Oyatomi, in a statement on Sunday said “this is a wolf cry and political gerry-mandering which cannot amount to a threat to life. There is no fragment of truth in all Lasun claimed, and it appears to have been the product of a very sick minded person”.

We hereby state unequivocally that the Deputy Speaker and his band of delusional propagandists are mere opportunists clustering to the death of our late party leader and illustrious son of Ede, Senator Isiaka Adeleke to make smokescreen names and score undue political relevance for themselves.

To all intents and purposes, the deputy speaker has once again demonstrated to the teeming populace that he is mischievous and a mere opportunist who lacks the deserving respect for the dead and cannot stand by the etiquette and traditional norms of our rich cultural heritage as Yoruba speaking people.

The executive of the Osun State APC, in order not to distract the business of developmental governance and fulfilment of our electioneering promises, issued an advisory notice a couple of months ago to all intending governorship aspirants for the 2018 elections to wait until there are clear guidelines and directives by INEC, as such, the claim by Lasun Yusuf that himself and the late Adeleke were singled out is a blatant lie and a template to deceit.

Alas, without searching further, Hon. Yusuf has without any iota of doubt has revealed himself to us that he is the chief sponsor and promoter of the irritating blackmail against the government of the state of Osun that the late senator of osun west senatorial district was poisoned which was a resultant effect of his death. This in its entirety is illogical and irresponsible.

We are poised to believe this outburst must be as a result of the outcast behavioural tendencies of Lasun Yusuf in OSUN APC after distancing himself from the activities of the party. We equally stand in the position of the Adeleke family, having affirmed that they are still waiting for the comprehensive report of the autopsy carried out on the first civilian governor of osun state.

In the spirit of this sorrowful loss, unfortunate death, and more remarkably as a sign of respect to the soul of the deceased, we shall henceforth decline to join issues with self-seeking politician, who is presently arrogating undue popularity to himself.”

APC said that it was unfortunate that someone who rode on the popularity and acceptability of the party to get to National Assembly could fabricate tissues of lies against the government and party leadership.

We only wish to advise the lawmaker to simply retrace his steps if truly he is still a member of the Osun APC.

We are touched with the huge vacuum and irreplaceable role Senator Adeleke’s death has left in the progressive camp of Osun APC, we once again sympathize with the Governor and government of the State of Osun, the Adeleke family, the entire APC family, the people of Ede and Osun state in general”.
