SAD! Four Mexican soldiers d3ad, 9 injured in explosive attack on military patrol

Four soldiers were killed and nine injured when their military patrol came under attack with explosives while tracking down a criminal group in western Mexico, President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said Friday.

The ambush took place Thursday in a rural area of the Aguililla municipality in Michoacan province, the president said at his daily press conference.

The soldiers had stumbled upon a “trap, an explosive” that killed one soldier on the spot and fatally wounded three more, said Lopez Obrador. Nine others were injured.

“This is what the Army, the Marine Corps and the National Guard have to face,” said the president, who faces frequent criticism from the opposition demanding a heavier hand against the country’s powerful drug cartels.

Lopez Obrador prefers a strategy he calls “hugs not bullets” to tackle the causes of violent crime, such as poverty and inequality rather than military force.

Mexico has registered more than 420,000 murders and 110,000 disappearances — most attributed to criminal groups — since the launch of a controversial military anti-drug offensive in 2006 by then-president Felipe Calderon.

Military sources consulted by AFP in Michoacan said anti-personnel mines and drones with explosives were used in Thursday’s ambush.

The area where the attack occurred is the scene of a dispute between the Jalisco New Generation Cartel and another organization known as “El Abuelo.”

News of the latest attack came on the same day Mexico launched campaigning for the presidential election, with two women — Claudia Shainbaum and Xochitl Galvez — in the lead in a nation with a long tradition of macho culture.

The spasms associated with SPS can be intense, generating forceful contractions that may lead to fractures, adding another layer of complexity to the lives of those affected.

    Coping with Uncertainty

One of the significant challenges of SPS is its progressive and incurable nature. The uncertainty of how the disorder will manifest over time and its impact on long-term mobility can be mentally and emotionally taxing. Individuals living with SPS often face not only physical limitations but also the psychological toll of navigating an unpredictable journey.

    Celine Dion’s Journey with SPS

Recent news has brought attention to the struggles of legendary Canadian singer Celine Dion, who is currently battling Stiff-Person Syndrome. Reports indicate that she is facing a loss of control over her muscles, impacting her ability to perform and pursue her passion for music. Celine’s journey highlights the indiscriminate nature of SPS, affecting individuals regardless of their prominence or achievements.

    Raising Awareness and Providing Support

Raising awareness about Stiff-Person Syndrome is crucial for fostering understanding and empathy. With increased awareness, there is hope for improved support systems and research initiatives aimed at unraveling the complexities of the disorder.

The SPS community actively engages in advocacy, sharing their stories to inspire others and foster a sense of unity in facing this rare condition.

    Symptoms of Stiff-Person Syndrome

Stiff-Person Syndrome (SPS) is a rare neurological disorder characterized by specific symptoms that can significantly impact an individual’s daily life. In this exploration of SPS, we’ll delve into the distinctive symptoms associated with this condition.

    1. Muscle Stiffness and Rigidity

The hallmark symptom of Stiff-Person Syndrome is persistent muscle stiffness and rigidity. Individuals with SPS often experience tightness in the muscles, making movements difficult and causing a sensation of being “stiff” or “frozen.”

    2. Spasms and Muscle Contractions

SPS is marked by sudden and involuntary muscle spasms and contractions. These spasms can be intense and are often triggered by factors such as stress, sudden movements, or external stimuli.

    3. Impaired Mobility

The stiffness and spasms associated with SPS can severely impair mobility. Simple actions like walking, getting up from a chair, or climbing stairs become challenging tasks for individuals with this condition.

    4. Hyperlordosis and Abnormal Posture

Many individuals with SPS develop an abnormal posture, known as hyperlordosis, characterized by an exaggerated curvature of the lower spine. This can further contribute to difficulties in movement and balance.

    5. Heightened Sensitivity to Stimuli

People with SPS may exhibit increased sensitivity to sensory stimuli. Common triggers include loud noises, bright lights, or emotional stress, which can exacerbate muscle stiffness and spasms.

    6. Emotional Distress and Anxiety

Living with SPS can lead to emotional distress and anxiety due to the unpredictability of symptoms. The constant challenges in mobility and the impact on daily life contribute to the emotional burden carried by individuals with SPS.

    7. Sleep Disturbances

Some individuals with SPS may experience disturbances in sleep patterns. The discomfort caused by muscle stiffness and spasms can make it challenging to achieve restful sleep.

    8. Progressive Nature

Stiff-Person Syndrome is progressive, meaning that symptoms tend to worsen over time. The unpredictability of the progression adds a layer of uncertainty for individuals living with this rare neurological disorder.

    Conclusion Stiff-Person Syndrome

Stiff-Person Syndrome is more than a medical condition; it’s a journey marked by resilience, courage, and the unwavering spirit of those affected. As we strive to understand the complexities of SPS, let us extend empathy, support, and solidarity to individuals navigating this challenging path. Together, we can contribute to a more compassionate and informed world for those living with Stiff-Person Syndrome.

SAD: Hostel caretaker shoots student to death in Delta

Sad! Ishie Abraham, a final-year student of the Department of Computer Science at the Delta State Polytechnic in Otefe-Oghara has been allegedly shot to death by his hostel caretaker.

It was gathered that the misunderstanding between Abraham and the caretaker – a former chairman of the community – was caused by a generator.

The community chairman tried to resolve the dispute but the caretaker was not satisfied, according to a source.

The caretaker reportedly went back to harass Abraham on the same day and in the process shot the student.

The incident later led to a protest by the students in the community.

The spokesman for the state police command, DSP Edafe Bright, confirmed the incident on Thursday.

He added that the suspect was at large.

“Suspect is at large, but the command is on his trail,” he said.

Meanwhile, a factional national leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), in a statement signed by its president, Comrade Rioborue Deniran, on Wednesday, called on the authorities to urgently seek justice for the deceased.

NANS offered its condolences to the polytechnic community and the immediate family and friends of the deceased and noted that it was committed to ensuring justice was served.

The statement reads in part: “We received the sad news of the death of Mr. Ishie Abraham, a student of Delta State Polytechnic Otefe-Oghara. The circumstances surrounding the death of such a young and vibrant man are completely condemnable, as the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) frowns upon the killing of its members.

“We are calling on the security authorities, particularly the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, and the state government to urgently seek justice for this promising young man whose life was cut short.

“Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the polytechnic community, especially the immediate family and friends of the deceased. The apex student body is committed to ensuring justice in this tragic incident.

“We call for calm and orderliness among our students, while urging the police to make immediate arrests and prosecute the culprit(s).”

“Lastly, we strongly discourage any involvement in criminal activities, as the leadership of NANS will never tolerate any form of injustice against our students. None of us should be a victim of such a tragic fate,” the statement added.
