Arsenal retains Nwaneri on fresh long term deal

Arsenal teenager Ethan Nwaneri has signed a fresh five-year contract which will keep him at the Premier League club until the summer of 2030.

The 18-year-old’s previous deal had been set to expire in June 2026.

“It means everything to me, I’m so happy to have got it done. This is where I feel at home, and where I’m going to develop the best,” he said.

“I’m very excited. I see this as my first real season and part of a proper squad in the changing room. I’m so excited for what I can bring to the team and how I can help the team.

“I think I’ve actually become more direct over the past few years and I’ve added more goals, so I’m excited for what will come next.”

Nwaneri made headlines when he became the youngest player ever to appear in the Premier League aged 15 years and 181 days old against Brentford in September 2022.

And the attacking midfielder made 37 appearances and scored nine goals in all competitions during a breakthrough campaign for the Gunners last term.

He capped a fine 2024-25 season by helping England Under-21s defend their European Championship title in Slovakia in June.

  • Super Eagles striker, Terem Moffi to be signed by West Ham for £25 million

Super Eagles striker, Terem Moffi to be signed by West Ham for £25 million

West Ham is holding talks with Lorient over a deal to sign Super Eagles striker, Terem Moffi, for £ 25 million.

The deal is set to be £20m and an additional £5m for Moffi.

Terem Moffi is a Nigeria international, who has scored 12 goals in 18 games this season.

He arrived at the French club in 2020. The 23-year-old has racked up 59 goals in 135 games and helped them avoid a relegation scrap last season.

With the Hammers currently 18th in the Premier League table after a poor run of form, bringing in a fresh striker with experience could help them avoid the drop.

Moffi left Nigeria and moved to England to join the Buckswood Football Academy in Hastings at the age of 17. He then took his talents to Lithuania where he played for Kauno Zalgiris and Riteriai.

Moffi later had a short spell at Belgian side Kortrijk before joining Lorient in October 2020.

Neuer extends Bayern Munich deal until 2024

Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has extended his contract at Bayern Munich by a year until 2024, the Bundesliga champions said in a statement on Monday.

The 36-year-old appears to have got over injury problems which dogged the middle part of his career and is still a standout goalkeeper in German football.

“I’m very pleased that my journey continues at Bayern Munich. We’ll have a very good team again with which we can play for every title,” Neuer said.

“As a goalkeeper, captain and leader, I want to be the support and a key factor in our big goals. We want to extend our title record and compete again for the German Cup and UEFA Champions League.”

His deal follows a new contract for Thomas Müller, also until 2024.

But the third ageing jewel in Bayern Munich’s crown, Robert Lewandowski, has turned down a new deal with his existing contact running out in 2023.

Bayern Munich want him to stay next season but reports say they are mulling a sale.

  • Countries strike deal at COP26 climate summit after last-minute compromise on coal

Countries strike deal at COP26 climate summit after last-minute compromise on coal

Negotiators from nearly 200 countries at the COP26 summit on Saturday reached an agreement to try to prevent progressively worse and potentially irreversible climate impacts.

The announcement comes several hours after the scheduled Friday evening deadline.

Delegates had struggled to resolve major sticking points, such as phasing out coal, fossil fuel subsidies and financial support to low-income countries.

India, among the world’s biggest burners of coal, raised a last-minute change of fossil fuel language in the pact, going from a “phase out” of coal to a “phase down.” After initial objections, opposing countries ultimately conceded.

In an emotional address to assembled delegates, the U.K.’s COP26 President Alok Sharma said he was “deeply sorry” for the way the process had unfolded. “I understand the deep disappointment. It’s also vital we protect this package,” Sharma said.

The U.N. meeting in Glasgow, Scotland, was billed as humanity’s last and best chance to keep the all-important goal of 1.5 degrees Celsius alive. This temperature threshold refers to the aspirational target inscribed in the landmark 2015 Paris Agreement.

Keeping average temperatures from surpassing this level requires the world to almost halve greenhouse gas emissions in the next 8 years and reach net-zero emissions by 2050. It is critically important to prevent the worst of what the climate crisis has in store.

The world’s leading scientists have warned the world has already warmed roughly 1.1 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels and the latest projections, despite numerous pledges at the Glasgow summit, show the world is on track for a rise of 2.4 degrees Celsius by the end of the century.

U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres had bluntly warned the carbon-cutting pledges on the table during the final throes of the marathon talks were “very probably” not enough to avert a climate catastrophe. He told the Associated Press news agency that the goal of keeping 1.5 degrees Celsius alive was on “life support.”

Climate activists and campaigners have been sharply critical of COP26, describing it as an “exclusionary” fortnight of talks centered on “business as usual and blah, blah, blah.”

“The road to 1.5 just got harder when these talks should have cleared the way to make it a whole lot easier,” Rachel Kennerley, climate campaigner of environmental group Friends of the Earth, said in a statement Saturday.

In his words:” I want to increase my listener-ship.If people are listening to me in China, in Korea , in the US and UK, that’s okay, of course I want a big reach. Most of the time the reason people want to cross over is because they are looking for some sort of approval from the ‘abroad people’.I won’t sign a deal that will enslave me because I want international reach.I will not do that.A lot of people are signing deals, I don’t know if they are enslaving themselves”.

Sharing his opinion on 2020, he said:”Its difficult to talk about 2020 without going into too much detail. It is difficult to talk about 2020 without feeling sad, feeling down that you are going through something through.Everyone will agree that 2020 is by far the roughest year yet, just in terms of everything”.

Falz who is multi-talented said he prefers to call himself an entertainer than narrowing his brand to a label.

“I just like to look at myself as an entertainer.Thankfully I am a brand.Good luck has a role in it.It is a combination of that and me trying to strategically direct this to that.A combination of all that made such a brand that is all encompassing”.

Asked about why he is passionate about advocating about societal ills, he said:”I have never really thought it was okay to not be humane, to not care about people’s feelings or their rights or entitlements.I cannot exist in Nigeria and not make music that reflects what is going on”.

  • Ighalo: Man United to table £200,000-a-week deal

Ighalo: Man United to table £200,000-a-week deal

Odion Ighalo will have to accept a staggering £200,000-a-week wage cut if he wants to seal a permanent move to Manchester United.

Ighalo joined United in a shock loan move from Chinese Super League outfit Shanghai Shenhua in January and United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is willing to offer the 30-year-old a permanent deal ahead of the start of next season.

But Old Trafford bosses are not willing to match the current £300,000-a-week wages Ighalo currently earns in China – and have warned him their offer will be no more than £100,000-a-week.

It remains to be seen if Ighalo, 30, will be willing to take such a huge financial hit.

Ighalo’s current loan deal is due to expire on May 31 and United will look to extend it, with the current campaign expected to run until June and July due to the pandemic.

United will then look to negotiate a full-time deal with Ighalo, who admits he is open to moving to Manchester on a permanent basis.

He said: “I’m on loan until the end of the season, which has not expired. Now it’s for us to finish the season very well, and if I do well, score more goals, if possible, then after the season we’ll see what’s on the table.”
