Tragic Davido: Why is everyone around him dying?

For popular artiste, Davido, it is yet another death of a close aide. The fifth in a space of nearly four years and the second death in his camp this year. This understandably has set tongues wagging: what is this thing with Davido and death of close aides?

The accolades and obvious success Davido is currently reveling in, has not masked the serious concerns fans, admirers and enemies are beginning to raise about the number of deaths he has been associated with in so short a time.

Though no reasonable answers are forthcoming, understandably, Nigerians are nonetheless “speaking in tongues” and some are even asking: who is next?

For those who are keeping a tab, they easily point out that between 2017 and now, five people, otherwise very close to the singer have lost their lives in curious circumstances. It is as if death has become a part of the singer’s story.

Among the many reactions currently in the public space, about the recent death of Fortune Ateumunname, yet another aide of Davido, this time his personal photographer, a certain social media user, @iconic.chine wrote: “Davido and his crew need to go to MFM for deliverance. Maybe a coincidence but the tragedy around him is just too much”.

Another @Unlimitedeniola points at the seemingly excessively lavish lifestyle of the A-list singer, which some claim involves use of alcohol and hard drugs, as a possible cause of the deaths in his camp.

He wrote on Twitter:”Rule out diabolical reason when talking about number of deaths around Davido. Members of his team should stop using drugs. The death of Obama DMW should just give this reason for them to stay away from drugs”.

    June 30th-Obama died

TheNewsGuru recalls that back in June 2021, Habeeb Uthman, aka Obama DMW, a Davido loyalist passed on. The boisterous associate died on Wednesday, June 30, 2021. He was said to have complained of breathing difficulty and had driven himself to the Evercare Hospital in Lekki, Lagos. However, despite frantic efforts to salvage his life, he gave up the ghost.

A devastated Davido on July 7th 2021, took to Instragram to express how he felt about Obama’s demise. He wrote in parts: “This is by far the hardest thing I’ve had to write. Hurt, broken, sad, and lost. For the first time in my life, I am EXTREMELY confused. The pain is one I cannot explain. 44 was more than an elder brother to me, he was a protector. Someone that literally just always made me smile no matter the issue, problems I had”.

    Davido lost Teejay

Davido became a shadow of himself when he lost his former bodyguard on December 8, 2020. Tijani Olamilekan, aka Teejay, died after what was described as a brief illness.

Lamenting over the demise of Teejay who had been with him since his days of small beginnings, Davido wrote, “Please tell me I am dreaming. My TJ gone? What would I do without you, uncle TJ. (For) 11 years, you did all for me. Put me before you at all times… You were such a big person with a baby heart. Everyone loved you. I want to wake up late for a show so you’d come and carry me again. I don’t even know what I’m typing. RIP uncle Tijani.”

Davido get hit by the pangs of DJ Olu’s death

Olugbenga Abiodun, aka DJ Olu, a son to the incumbent Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, was a youngster with tall dreams. Olu discovered his love for disc jockeying and was already pursuing a career along that line. At the time of his demise, he was the official DJ for Davido.

On October 7, 2017, his corpse was found alongside that of a friend (Chime Amaechi) in a car parked in the garage of a Banana Island house. According to an official statement by the police at the time, illicit drugs were allegedly recovered from the car and he was said to have died of drug overdose.

TheNewsGuru recalls that Davido took to social media one year after his death to write, “A year since you’ve been gone. Love you and miss you so much. You took a part of me when you left! We always spoke about taking over the world together. I know you’re looking down, proud of what we have achieved so far. Your legacy lives forever! We celebrate you.”

    October 2nd 2017-Tagbo died

Before DJ Olu’s sad death, another friend of Davido, Tagbo Umeike, died on October 2, 2017, after a night out with the crooner.

According to reports, Tagbo was said to have taken as much as 40 tots of tequila and was intoxicated that night, which was also his birthday. Hours before his tragic demise, Tagbo had been spotted in a nightclub with Davido, though the latter said that they both went their separate ways at the club.

As at that time, the then-Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, had stated that the deceased was abandoned at the hospital by Davido’s driver and friends.

Tagbo’s alleged girlfriend and actress, Caroline Hutchings (Danjuma), also alleged that Davido was complicit in the former’s death.

21st of September 2021-Davido lost personal photographer

The ‘Fem’ singer, lost his personal photographer, Fortune Ateumunname on Tuesday 21st of September 2021.TheNewsGuru gathered that the talented photographer drowned at an undisclosed location in Lagos on Tuesday.

The news of Fortune’s appalling death was broken by a Twitter user, @Dianacoco_.

While mourning the late photographer, he said, “Davido photographer Fortune is dead, Jesus Christ. I’m heartbroken, he’s my friend.

“I’m sooooo shocked right now, wtf. He shouldn’t have been Fortune God, he’s so hardworking, very ambitious he worked so hard to gain the spot he achieved like wtf. This one is paining me because he is someone I know so well, guy.”

These mysterious deaths associated with Davido are the headaches the flamboyant entertainer needs to deal with before it is too late. He needs to ask himself some salient questions, take a break from music and do the needful to curb these series of tragedies. No one knows the next person death would take from Davido’s camp.

Alarming: ‘Gunmen, kidnappers killed 612 victims in August’

Nigeria recorded no fewer than 612 deaths across 103 local government areas in 29 states in August, a security report has revealed.

The victims were reportedly killed by gunmen and kidnappers in various armed attacks, violent crimes and bomb attacks in Borno, Yobe, Kwara, Niger, Kogi, Plateau, Nasarawa, Federal Capital Territory, Benue, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kaduna, Rivers, Delta, Ebonyi, Imo, Osun, Ondo and other states.

The report was released in Abuja on Saturday by Beacon Consulting, a Nigerian security consulting firm offering bespoke security advisory services, risk management, and resilience solutions.

The firm explained that the August figure represented a marked reduction in the number of fatalities since the June figure (1,032), the highest for the year.

The report presented by the Managing Director of Beacon Consulting, Kabir Adamu, read, “In August 2021, we recorded a diverse range of security incidents and a total of 612 fatalities in 29 states across 103 LGAs. The August figure of 612 represents another marked reduction in the number of fatalities since the highest for the year, 1032, in June 2021.

“The thematic indications of the incidents that resulted in these fatalities include armed attacks and a continuation of the trend of several non-state actors successfully challenging the state’s monopoly of the use of force.

“Findings suggest that for the reporting period, 76 per cent of kidnappings in schools happened in 2021 while 48 per cent of all abductions during these events also took place in 2021. Overall, 88 per cent of these events happened in northern Nigeria.

“The region has been afflicted by conflict fueled by clashes over access to land and resources, among other factors. At least seven states in northern Nigeria have shut schools due to the rise in abductions and banditry in 2021,” the report noted.

It further observed that August saw an increase in inter-community violence in Plateau State in spite of the ongoing security forces action to contain the cycle of targeted attacks and reprisals in Mangu, Riyom, Bokkos, Bassa, Barkin Ladi, Jos North, and Jos South.

Beacon Consulting submitted that the cycle of conflict in Plateau as well as several other parts of the North- Central was driven by socio-economic and identity issues vis-à-vis the political dynamics of the states.

While the North-East region recorded 70 deaths in six LGAs in two states, the North-West had 249 fatalities and 309 abducted persons, which occured in 26 LGAs in five states.

The North-Central suffered 131 fatalities while 55 persons were abducted in 23 LGAs across seven states but the South-South region reported 32 deaths and six kidnapped victims in 14 LGAs in six states during the period.

In the South-West, the report said 47 fatalities and eight kidnap incidents were recorded across 22 LGAs in five states, adding that political violence, criminality, including attacks on financial institutions and kidnap- for- ransom as well as the self-determination debate dominated developments during the reporting period.

It added, “We recorded 83 fatalities and five kidnap incidents in 12 LGAs in four states in the South-East region as a result of the ongoing activities of the outlawed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network, farmer versus herder conflicts, as well as the security forces operation in the region against the activities of these and other non-state actors.

“It is assessed as credible that security forces’ operations in the South-East have intensified and reduced non-state actors’ freedom to operate. It is further assessed as credible that the likelihood for resumption of the activities of these non-state actors is high in the short and medium terms as the conflict dynamics in the region such as clashes between farmers and herders as well as between IPOB or ESN and the security forces are yet to be permanently resolved.”

The security firm contended that attempts by non-state actors to challenge the supremacy of the use of force by the state through attacks on rural communities, mass abduction, and illegal checkpoints on travel routes in the North East, North Central, and North-West regions and attacks on security forces formations in the South-East would continue unless the Federal and state governments collaborate to enhance the administration of criminal justice in restoring social order and by addressing the root causes of these challenges.

It also stressed the need for the Federal and state governments to collaborate in dominating the forested and other ungoverned spaces, which the bandits use as safe havens and to keep their victims.

The report forecast that criminal activities including kidnapping, violent and petty crimes as well as home invasions are likely to continue in the short and medium terms due to the deteriorating economic situation in the country. ,,

Flash floods kill 44 in New York, New Jersey, others

Flash flooding killed at least 44 people in U.S. four Northeastern states as remnants of Hurricane Ida unleashed torrential rains that swept away cars, submerged New York City subway lines and grounded airline flights.

Across large swaths of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Connecticut, residents spent the day coping with water-logged basements, power outages, damaged roofs and calls for help from friends and family members stranded by flooding.

At least 13 people lost their lives in New York City, along with three in suburban Westchester County.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy said in a tweet at least 23 people from that state had perished in the storm.

Among the fatalities, three people were found dead in a basement in the New York City borough of Queens, while four residents of Elizabeth, New Jersey, died at a public housing complex flooded by 8 feet (2.4 m) of water.

Roadways were transformed into river-like torrents in minutes as the downpours struck on Wednesday night, trapping drivers in quickly rising floodwaters. Scores of vehicles were found abandoned on area roadways Thursday. In Somerset County, New Jersey, at least four motorists were killed, officials said.

Flights in, out of New York canceled; state of emergency declared

A victim in Maplewood Township, New Jersey, was swept away while he was apparently trying to remove debris from storm drains in the area, police said.

“Sadly, more than a few folks have passed as a result of this,” Murphy said at a briefing in Mullica Hill in the southern part of the state, where a tornado ripped apart several homes.

The National Weather Service confirmed two tree-snapping tornadoes also struck Maryland on Wednesday, one in Annapolis and another Baltimore. A 19-year-old was reported to have died after trying to rescue his mother from a flooded apartment in Rockville, Maryland, according to the Washington Post.

The damage came three days after Ida, one of the most powerful hurricanes ever to strike the U.S. Gulf Coast, made landfall on Sunday in Louisiana, destroying entire communities.

But the loss of life in the Northeast dwarfed the confirmed storm-related death toll of nine in Louisiana.

In Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, outside Philadelphia, the Schuylkill River inundated hotels, warehouses and condominiums that line the river. Emergency squads were waiting for the waters to recede on Thursday before starting evacuations of possibly hundreds of people who live in nearby apartments, officials said.

Four people died in suburban Philadelphia as a result of the storm, according to county spokesperson Kelly Cofrancisco. And a Connecticut state trooper perished after his cruiser was swept away in floodwaters in the town of Woodbury early Thursday, state police said.

In the figures released by the NCDC, Lagos posted 776 cases to lead the pack, with Rivers raking in 143 cases to come second, and Ekiti recording 49 cases to come third.
