    Covid-19 spreads more, kills 14 Nigerians in a single day

    Deadly COVID-19 struck 14 more Nigerians dead on Saturday, as new cases rise in Nigeria.

    The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, reported 1,143 new cases in Nigeria, with 14 deaths in the last 24 hours.

    The death rate, however, represented a drop in fatality when compared to the 24 deaths reported the previous day.

    Lagos posted eight of the 14 deaths reported to top on Saturday, taking its overall deaths so far to 370.

    Edo and Enugu States recorded two deaths each. While Edo has total COVID-19 deaths of 151, Enugu has 23. Rivers posted one death, taking its total to 88.

    Total COVID-19 deaths so far is put at 1,747 across the 37 States and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.

    Also, of the 1,143 fresh cases reported on Friday, Lagos topped the chat with 319 cases, up from the 204 cases it raked in the previous day, with FCT recording 157 cases, up from the 75 cases it posted on Friday.

    Others are: Kwara (90), Oyo (74), Enugu (72), Nasarawa (69), Imo (58), Osun (51), Gombe (49), Kaduna (31), Edo (23), Katsina (23), Kebbi (23), Ogun (22), Kano (19), Rivers (19), Ebonyi (18), Plateau (14), Delta (7), and Ekiti (5).

    According the NCDC, “Till date, 145,664 cases have been confirmed, 120,399 cases have been discharged and 1,747 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

    “A multi-sectoral national emergency operations centre (EOC), activated at Level 3, continues to coordinate the national response activities.”

    New cases were recorded in 19 States and the FCT on Saturday.

    Nigeria posts second highest COVID-19 deaths in single day

    Nigeria posted its second highest single day COVID-19 deaths on Friday, with Oyo State reporting the highest number of deaths.

    According to the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, 24 deaths were recorded on Friday, the second highest in a single day since the pandemic broke in Nigeria in February 2020.

    The highest single day deaths was 27, which was reported on January 29, 2021.

    Oyo posted 10 COVID-19 deaths, the highest it has recorded in a day since the pandemic broke out. This takes Oyo’s total deaths to 104.

    Lagos, the epicentre, recorded five deaths, taking its total to 362 deaths, while the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja posted three deaths, with its total now 137.

    Taraba State recorded two deaths, taking its total to 17. Kaduna, Rivers, Ondo and Kwara reported one death each.

    Total COVID-19 deaths in Kaduna stand at 58, Rivers, 87, Ondo, 56 and Kwara,44.

    With Friday’s 24 new deaths, the nation’s total COVID-19 deaths now stand at 1,734. Today’s deaths also represent an increase from the eight deaths posted on Thursday.

    Also, the nation reports 1,005 fresh cases, a slight rise from the 938 cases reported the previous day, with Lagos topping the chat with 204 cases, down from the 236 cases it recorded on Thursday.

    Kwara came second with 155 cases. Kwara did not record any case the previous day.

    Oyo posted 124 new cases, up from the 50 cases it recorded the previous day, while Plateau raked in 80 cases, a fall from the 92 cases it recorded on Thursday.

    Others are: FCT (75), Edo (56), Osun (48), Ondo (41), Kaduna (40), Rivers (40), Taraba (35), Borno (32), Ekiti (21), Ogun (20), Kano (14), Bayelsa (8), Delta (7), Bauchi (3) and Jigawa (2).

    According to NCDC, till date, 144,521 cases have been confirmed, 118,871 cases have been discharged and 1,734 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

    New cases were reported in 18 States and the FCT.

    Covid-19 kills 21 Nigerians in a single day as cases continue to soar

    The dreaded COVID-19 pandemic struck 21 Nigerians dead on Tuesday as new cases rise again after two days of relief.

    Figures churned out by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, showed that 21 deaths were reported on Tuesday, with new cases soaring to 1,056, a sharp rise from the 643 cases posted the previous day.

    Of the 21 deaths reported, Lagos and Osun recorded eight deaths each.

    While the death toll in Lagos stand at 352, that of Osun is now 41.

    Edo, Kano, Kwara, Ogun and Bayelsa reported one death each.

    Total National deaths arising from COVID-19 complication is 1,694.

    Also, of the 1,056 new cases reported on Tuesday, Lagos topped the chat with 214 cases, Osun, 120 cases and the Federal Alitalia Territory, FCT, Abuja, 116 cases.

    Others are: Plateau (88), Ebonyi (75), Kwara (73), Gombe (70), Ondo (57), Rivers (47), Akwa Ibom (38), Edo (25), Oyo (23), Kano (22), Delta (19) Katsina (18), Borno (16), Nasarawa (13), Ekiti (8), Ogun (8), Bauchi (4), Benue(1) and Jigawa (1).

    Till date, 141,447 cases have been confirmed, 115,755 cases have been discharged and 1,694 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory,” NCDC said.

    The 1056 new cases are reported from 22 states.

    Covid-19 second wave: 15 of 21 deaths recorded in Nigeria in a single day are from Lagos

    Lagos State posted its highest COVID-19 deaths in a single day on Monday, with the deadly virus striking 15 people dead in the State.

    Of the 21 people killed by the virus in Nigeria on Monday, 15 of the fatality were reported in Lagos, according to figures released by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC.

    This is far higher than the three deaths it reported on Sunday, taking its overall deaths from Coronavirus to 329.

    The remaining six deaths were accounted for in three States and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.

    Rivers and Kano States reported two deaths each. This takes total COVID-19 deaths in Rivers and Kano to 81 each.

    Also, Edo and the FCT accounted for one deaths each. This takes the total deaths in Edo to 140 and FCT, 127.

    Total confirmed COVID-19 deaths in Nigeria so far is put at 1,607.

    However, the nation reported fewer cases again on Monday, posting 676 new cases, a drop from the 685 cases recorded the previous day.

    This takes the total confirmed Coronavirus cases in Nigeria to 131,918, with 106,275 recoveries reported so far.

    In today’s new cases, Lagos topped with 227 infections, a drop from the 355 cases raked in on Sunday, with Rivers, 73 cases, Niger, 69 cases, Plateau, 56 cases and the FCT, 50 cases.

    Others are: Kano (44), Oyo (43), Ogun (27), Gombe (18), Ondo (15), Enugu (10), Osun (10), Cross River (8), Edo (8), Nasarawa (7), Bauchi (4), Kaduna (3), Ekiti (2), and Zamfara (2).

    New cases were posted in 18 States and the FCT.

    COVID-19 caseloads reduce in Nigeria, eight deaths reported

    COVID-19 cases nosedived in Nigeria on Sunday as Lagos, the epicentre, reported a sharp fall in fresh cases.

    Cases fell sharply from 1,883 to 685 cases on Sunday in Nigeria, with eight deaths recorded, according to figures released by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC.

    Lagos, which posted a humongous 1,040 cases on Saturday, reported a sharp decline in fresh cases, reporting just 355 cases.

    The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja was missing from the list for the first time in over a month.

    Apart from Lagos, no other State posted up to 100 cases on Sunday.

    With 685 cases on Sunday, the nation’s total COVID-19 cases now stand at 131,242, with 104,989 recoveries reported and 1,586 deaths recorded overall.

    Of the eight deaths recorded, Lagos has three, taking its total deaths to 314, while Oyo and Kano reported two deaths each. Oyo now has 85 total deaths and Kano, 79.

    Ekiti reported one death, taking its total deaths so far to nine.

    Only 16 states reported new cases of COVID-19.

    Nigeria breaks Covid-19 death record, 27 dead in one day; Lagos, Oyo, Ondo worst hit

    Nigeria on Friday shattered its daily COVID-19 death record, posting its highest deaths in a single day since the pandemic broke out.

    Figures released by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC late Friday night showed that 27 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

    This is the highest the nation has ever recorded in a single day since February 2020 when the pandemic broke out in the country.

    Before now, the nation posted its highest single day COVID-19 deaths on January 15, 2021, when it reported 23 deaths.

    The record has been broken, with 27 deaths recorded. Of the 27 deaths reported, Lagos accounted for nine, taking its death toll to 311.

    Oyo reported seven deaths, taking its total deaths to 83, while Ondo posted four deaths, with its total now 51.

    Edo raked in three deaths, with its total deaths standing at 139; Kwara, two deaths, with its total now 41, while FCT and Kano reported one death each. While FCT now has a total of 126 deaths, Kano has 77 deaths.

    Total confirmed COVID-19 deaths in Nigeria now stand at 1,577.

    However, infections fell on Friday from 1,400 on Thursday to 1,114, taking the nation’s total confirmed Coronavirus cases to 128,674, with 102,780 recoveries recorded.

    Of the 1,114 new cases on Friday, Lagos posted the highest, raking in 408 cases, down from the 536 cases reported the previous day.

    The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja came a distant second with 95 new cases, a fall from the 129 cases it recorded on Thursday.

    Others are: Plateau (90), Ondo (66), Kaduna (63), Oyo (56), Borno (46), Imo (42), Edo (41), Ogun (37), Rivers (31), Ekiti (25), Yobe (20), Kano (18), Akwa Ibom (18), Delta (15), Osun (15), Kwara (11), Bayelsa (6), Nasarawa (6), Zamfara (4) and Bauchi (1).

    Twenty-one States and the FCT reported new cases on Friday.

    Covid-19 death toll rises, 15 Nigerians dead in one single day

    COVID-19 kills 15 Nigerians on Tuesday, as new cases drop nationwide, but Lagos and Abuja maintain lead.

    According to the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, the nation reported 1,303 COVID-19 cases on Tuesday with 15 deaths.

    Death toll rose from three on Monday to 15 on Tuesday.

    Osun topped the COVID-19 death chat with five, followed by Taraba which recorded three deaths, while Lagos and Zamfara reported two deaths each.

    Kaduna, Kano and Ondo reported one death each.

    However, Nigeria’s 1,303 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday represented a decrease from the 1,430 cases posted on Monday.

    This takes the total confirmed cases of the virus in Nigeria to 124,299, with 99,276 recoveries and 1,522 deaths reported.

    In Tuesday’s infections, Lagos led with 478 cases, a reduction from the 744 cases posted the previous day, while Abuja reported 211 cases, up from the 75 cases recorded on Monday.

    1,502 dead as Nigeria’s COVID-19 cases exceed 120,000 mark

    So far, 1,502 person have died from the dreaded Coronavirus in Nigeria as cases surpassed the 120,000 mark on Saturday after the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC reported 1,633 new infections.

    According to the NCDC, total confirmed COVID-19 cases in Nigeria now stand at 120,602, with 95,901 recoveries recorded so far.

    Five deaths were reported on Saturday, taking the overall national death rate to 1,502.

    However, COVID-19 cases fell sharply in Nigeria on Saturday, with 1,633 new infections reported.

    This represents a sharp drop from the all-time high 2,213 cases posted on Friday.

    Lagos and Plateau States posted the highest cases, but infections drop in Lagos and rose in Plateau.

    Lagos reported 498 fresh cases, representing a drop from the 831 cases posted the previous day while Plateau recorded 214 cases, a rise from the 127 cases raked in on Friday.

    The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja ramp up 179 new cases, a drop from the 235 cases posted the previous day.

    Others are: Rivers-99, Kaduna-98, Edo-87, Anambra-86, Akwa Ibom-50, Osun-47, Kano-40, Oyo-40, Kwara-39, Ebonyi-28, Niger-28, Taraba-28, Ogun-27, Ondo-21, Ekiti-12, Katsina-7, Borno-6 and Delta-2.

    New cases were reported in 20 States and the FCT on Saturday.

    Another 14 Nigerians die of COVID-19 with fresh 1,386 caseloads

    Nigeria’s COVID-19 death toll increased to 1,478 Wednesday, with new 14 deaths, the fifth successive day, since 16 January that the country recorded double digit fatalities from the virus.

    Fifteen died on Sunday 17 January, 14 on the 18th and yet another 15 on 19th January.

    According to the data supplied by the NCDC on its websites, the deaths on Wednesday came from eight states.

    Lagos, Edo and Oyo recorded 3 deaths each.

    Rivers, Kano, Kwara, Imo and Taraba recorded one death each.

    The NCDC also announced 1,386 cases for Wednesday, more than the 1,301 of the previous day.

    The national caseload is now 114,691 from 1,198,758 samples tested.

    The number of discharged increased to 92,336, with active cases now 20,877.

    According to the NCDC, 1,136 people were discharged on Wednesday. Out of the lot, 626 community recoveries happened in Lagos State.

    However, Lagos is carrying the heaviest burden of new infections, with 476 cases reported.

    Rivers was next with 163 and the FCT Abuja reported 116 cases.

    Kaduna logged 114 cases, Oyo 68, Plateau 62.

    Osun’s 55 new cases sent jitters to the state government, making it to impose another round of curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

    Government directed civil servants below grade level 12 to work from home effective from Jan. 25.

    But teachers, health workers and other workers on essential services, irrespective of grade, were exempted from the directive.

    The state also banned vigils and crusades until further notice.

    Covid-19 kills another 15 Nigerians in a single day

    Nigeria recorded 15 more deaths on Tuesday, as COVID-19 infections nosedived, with 1,301 cases reported.

    Figures released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, showed that 15 Nigerians were killed by the deadly virus in the last 24 hours, one more than Monday’s deaths.

    Plateau, Edo and Ondo reported three deaths each. Ogun reported two, while Benue, Ekiti, Kano and Akwa Ibom recorded one death each.

    Akwa Ibom’s lone death was that of the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, Obong Udo Ekpenyong, who died in the early hours of Tuesday, according to the party.

    The 1,301 new cases posted on Tuesday represented a sharp fall in infections from the 1,617 cases posted the previous day.

    This takes the total confirmed COVID-19 cases in Nigeria to 113,305, with 91,200 survivors discharged and 1,464 deaths reported so far.

    Of the 1,301 cases on Tuesday, Lagos recorded 551 cases, a fall from the 776 cases posted the previous day.

    The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja raked in 209 cases, a rise from the 102 cases posted on Monday, while Oyo, with 83 cases did not report any case the previous day.

    Others are: Plateau-65, Kaduna-64, Enugu-61, Rivers-44, Ondo-39, Benue-37, Akwa Ibom-31, Kano-19, Delta-18, Gombe-18, Ogun-16, Edo-15, Kebbi-10, Ebonyi-9, Jigawa-4, Osun-3, Zamfara-3, Borno-1 and Nasarawa-1.

    New cases were reported in 21 States and the FCT on Tuesday.
